    I remember those feelings of paralysis as your instructor asks something about the signs, while your brain is already trying decide whether to concentrate on steering the lane, braking for traffic lights, or changing gear.

    These types of roads with the multiple lanes, multiple points on signs, and the sudden traffic lights are making me feel overwhelmed just by watching this. There's no way I could process all this information at once while driving. Richard I'm hoping all of your students feel the same way when they're doing this at first!

    It's amazing to think that when you're an experienced driver you know how to 'read' a spiral roundabout, but as a learner there's so much to take in (as well as trying to operate the vehicle itself..)

    • @monishbiswas1966
      @monishbiswas1966 5 месяцев назад

      The 'spiral' means that the design of the roundabout helps you by moving lanes move towards the outside as you go around.
      I find it's best to keep the lane markings if possible, and let it take you to the outside, and assume the worst of your fellow road users and drive defensively.

      Don't you have to pass in the UK before you do Motorways? I heard something like this and I questioned it. I did my driving licence 24 years ago in Germany and there we had to complete everything before our test. That included night/evening driving and motorways. It's not as confusing as it looks - you're really only looking at the signs to spot the town names in the direction you want, you kind of learn to ignore the rest. Though it comes with practise - and the M25 is not exactly beginner friendly. If you can drive the M25, you can do anything!!

  • @Teverell
    @Teverell Месяц назад

    Oh boy the South Mimms services roundabout... I was coming home on leave for Christmas and ended up taking the wrong exit at that roundabout... went all the way anticlockwise round the M25 to Junction 4 instead of heading clockwise to Junction 2 (I lived in Kent at the time). Saved my pound at Dartford - and spent multiple times that on fuel!!
    That must have been the year after I passed my test, I think. Good times!

    I appreciate of this vedio so much. How it is different from the lane changing demonstration clips previously relesed, which was under the driving by Richard who knew the routes perfectly. First, how a new learner as me to read through those signs at driving with only probably several seconds of time, especially if the driver is 2 or 3 lanes from the road shoulders. Second, how the new learner can catch a good timing to change lanes after he/she figure out which lane is right to choose since the sign board seems normally to be set not far from the roundabouts.
    Anyway, thank a lot for this remider ❤ thanks and congratulations, Domas 🎉 2024 HAPPY NEW YEAR🌹

Right lane exits, winding slip roads, and part of the northbound road is 'double-decked' running on top of the southbound road. It works surprisingly well, however many new drivers or people new to the area get confused.

    Your videos are simply the best. I cannot wait to watch this one. I have passed in London recently but was not taught roundabouts (the area I learned in has only minis or one big light controlled roundabout. My instructor taught me how to enter and leave it, which lane to take but never explained the rules or how to use other lanes etc.). I am watching RUclips content to prepare for roundabouts in London and pick routes that avoid them for the time being (have been driving for a month only).
    My question is, how to recognize that a roundabout is not a spiral one? i think spiral ones are easier to tackle as they spiral you out as long as you enter in the right lane. But the ones where you have to change lane yourself before exit is a total mystery to me and i want to be able to recognise them before I enter them. Is there a trick to that? Thank you.

    • @KindredBrujah
      @KindredBrujah 5 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure there's a trick to it. You just have to follow the road markings, make sure you're not sitting between lanes and change lanes when safe. Even with the spiral ones they tackled in this video, they went awry here once and had to change lanes to return to where they needed to be.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  5 месяцев назад +2

      Spiral roundabouts usually have 3 lanes or more on the roundabout. If it has this many lanes, usually it's a spiral as you can't really leave in the right of three lanes as this may be unsafe so you have to make you way gradually to the outside or middle lane.

    The issues I have when trying to tackle these kind of roundabouts I's I find the signs tend to be way to close to the roundabout to allow time for me to A. Find and process the relevant information on the signs especially when their is alot of information and B ACT open the information
    I find the identifying the information and then acting upon the information take more time than the signs allow being so close in addition signs can be very small and road markings can be hard to read and also if they are covered by other vehicles then i can't read them?
    How can I deal with this issue

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  5 месяцев назад

      This is a challenge, some roundabouts are better sign posted than others. I use the sat nav these days. Depending whether the exit is left, ahead or right on the sat nav, that gives me a good idea of roughly which lane I'll need.

You said that using the clutch to slow the wheels down is bad, but if I use the brakes (which would bring required rpm down), then would I not be revmatching witchout using the gas to get a smooth ride? Shouldn't you check your blind spot when changing lanes on spiral roundabouts?

    OMG I truly hate these roundabouts! I have to be super focused and it can be very stresful. Easy to get wrong exit, being on working lane etc

    Haha this video came in clutch.
    Went to spiral roundabouts last week as well.
    And it can be confusing to people who have yet to try them.
    The ones I had were 2 big round abouts with 4-5 exits, all had 2 entry lanes and will turn into 3 lanes within the roundabout which are traffic light controlled.
    The part where you stay in the right lane and switch to the left lane just before your exit when you are about to exit can be dangerous as I see a lot of people not follow the procedure correctly. Like cutting across lanes and other drivers cause they were in the wrong lane for their exit.

    Personally I don't have much bother with them but I suspect some people get confused by all the crossing lines and lanes and so on just on a cognitive basis. Kind of like dyslexia or something but for road markings. It's a bit strange but I was playing Cyberpunk on the Xbox a few months back and I noticed in things like this the lanes are actually painted different colours as well as slip roads ect. It would probably be better way tbh because sometimes in the rain you can't even see the road markings anyway. I drive a lot around Liverpool and Manchester for work and I think it's in Liverpool where there's one where the road markings have just completely faded. If you're a new driver or foreign it must be a nightmare so it would help with them too

      You could use a satnav to assist you or familiarise yourself with your route beforehand.

    Why is it that signposts are not always in an obvious place? As you alluded to, the driver often needs to know where they are going because the signage isn't suitable‽
    Also sat-navs I've used have started the voice-over by saying for example "go North"😮‽‽😮
    If they expect the driver to have a skill used by *_migratory birds_* why create the sat-nav which assumes they will not actually require that sat-nav‽😂😂😂

    The main thing is information processing. It's a lot to take in.
    The sign boards are not a great way to show information. It should be more intuitive.
    The rest of the world works with Google maps just fine. UK road markings are stupid.
