This was truly a journey - into a world of mystery, infinity and cosmic melancholy. Like touching the foundation of the existence and reality itself. It feels like a river, or perhaps a deep dark ocean of different emotions, where the time itself doesn't exist (despite the work's title).
Excellent idea and execution for a portable eurorack rig. I agree with the other comments saying that this deserves attentive listening, but it works as a soothing, ethereal backdrop to a productive day, too.
I appreciate your explanation of the steps that you are going through and the sources that you use. In the early 2000's I used to make electronic music in a DAW and with a keyboard synthesizer. Then I quit making music altogether and now everyone is using boxes like this with tons of cables and plugs. For me, it's like everything that I used to know means nothing and I'm watching an instrument that I don't even understand.
You may be recommended alt of this but recognize it's not everyone. There are a lot of people that just use DAWS as its much cheaper and easier to get started.
Well these modular synths existed back then too, they just weren't as popular! But yeah, contrary to how youtube & instagram make it seem, Eurorack is still a growing niche hobby. DAWs (and desktop hardware) are still the go-to by the VAST majority.
Happy to get you a download code for the album while I'm in the middle of making the video. Send me a quick message on Patreon and I can hook you up with this (and any other) albums. Thanks!
Very very nice!! At 26:00, the "stuttering" effect (is that just Beads doing granular things?) followed by the huge string crescendo = so powerful! You write that this is music to be listened to while living the rest of your life, but hey, actively listening to this _is_ life. :)
Yes, that stuttering effect is turning wet:dry on the granular higher so that you're hearing more of the grains being played. Thanks so much for the kind words!
I can't wrap my head around how so much acoustic content was generated from such a compact array. Modular synth sceptic here. I'm blown away how emotive and sincere this feels. Also that single slot archival news thingy is just... wow.... I'm curious where the chords come from tho, where's the keyboard playing the notes? Is it all pre-sampled chord sequences coming from the black thing on the left?
Yeah, most of the sound generation is done by the 4ms Sampler, playing samples that I created in the box. Planning on doing a walkthrough of the design in the near future. And thanks!
Love this! Quick questions - do you know the rough estimate of the cost of a setup like that? And are you somewhere in the PNW? Looks very Northwestern there :]
I'm not sure what the cost is; you can buy most cases and modules used (as I did), but even still, eurorack is not a cost-efficient platform. A tool like Modular Grid will give you the new cost of all modules in USD, though. And yes, this is one of the Discovery Islands in British Columbia!
@@JayHosking ¿Por Qué No? is bomb for sure. Do you like Thai food? If so, you gotta check out Khao Moo Dang next time you’re here. Best Thai I’ve ever had! 👌
Lovely atmosphere. Are you powering the Palette case via battery ? If so, what device are you using? I'm interested in doing some outdoor performing too.
Yeah, powered by battery. The battery is from Krisdonia, recommended by somebody on an Intellijel forum. There's an image of it around the 3-minute mark here: ruclips.net/video/exuvG4X7QCc/видео.htmlsi=waepJ0FOcPPB7NEL And thanks!
I liked it very much, superb music.

Far too good to be just 'background'. This performance deserves attention and proper deep listening. Superb work Jay! ❤
Every time I come back to your channel, I discover another pearl. Thank you.
Your music is like sitting on a rocket and flying to the space. Inspiring! And a real engine for me while doing post production. Thank you Jay!

Unreal performance - I realise this was meant to be background, but I kept getting drawn into all those lovely swelling synths ❤
Love it, here in brazil its the opposite, winter ending and summer beggining. And it fits too, very nice
Awesome! I've been looking for this kind of quality work all over RUclips!

Absolutely mind-blowing. What a fantastic performance ❤
For a guitar player who got into synthesis you absolutely nail it in all your videos

Kapelusze z głów. Wspaniała uczta dla moich uszu.
This is lovely, Jay. Absolutely love it. 💚
one thing i personally find lacking in a lot of modular ambient pieces is a distinct lack of low end. this, in comparison, is wonderful.
This is beautiful..thank you for sharing🙏
Totally amazing. Signed up and ready and waiting.

What a place.
I love it... it's very Jean Michel Jarre
Soothing layers of noise and rickety sound structures build up a profound, wise and conceptual artwork of yours, mr. Hosking!
That was good

Background voices immediately bring the track out of the background and into the fore. I Can't work to that
