This is a live, semi-improvised ambient IDM album performed entirely on one small eurorack hardware skiff. This is music deliberately created to listen to while you are working away at the rest of your life, whether your heart rate is up or down. But I've also written some notes and recorded the performance video because that's what I personally enjoy; I hope it can be useful to see how the music was made for you.

I've been listening to this constantly
This is great
Such a cool decision to put the drums forward and relatively dry and centralized, cushioned by the lush, wide field samples.
Really like last patch
Looking forward to seeing this on Spotify, friend :) Really digging it.
Hell yeah ! Just got home from work , perfect timing for a 1 h of relaxation !
These were fantastic
Battle of Glen Sheil. This is the one. So good!!!
beautiful!
Amazing
Excellent !
This is really good!
amazing!
Excellent, merci
You’re an inspiration.
Dang. That's lovely.
Incredible, with such a "limited" setup to create such a variety of music... Hats off, great job!
Beautiful work. Gave me feels.
Excellent
Amazing!
This is really cool
Wow jay I just had such a great time listening to this. Thanks dude.
superb, great work, dunvegan was a fav
nice performance! mind blowing!
This is incredible 👏🏻
Amazingly compact and powerful!
Awesome work, small but incredibly versatile and powerful. Nice one.
Love the music, and the subtitles explaining how the setup works!
Jay, this is incredible. Nice work man.
Thank you most kind sir. 🖖
So impressive! This is it, for me.
You make me so curious and happy each time I see you upload something! And this time - wow, it's a full wonderful album~
Thank you!
NICE! Very clever and tasteful use of a small system!
Excellent use of that rack space, very inspiring.
really big sound for such a small modular. good work man.
This is awesome! I love the "small case" theme and what you've been able to create with the setup is amazing!
Amazing men keep working every album Is better, a new follower from Mexico
Nice work! That Prok kick sounds great. Fantastic use of a small system.
amazing how much from how little here. i really love this.
Yessss Jay! This is great. Thanks for including notes and your thoughts on your process. I love seeing what other 62hp palette users prioritize and patch. Using this as a work soundtrack for today!
Absolutely awesome Jay! Very well played. Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.
yay
I wish I could understand how it is created.
This is so peaceful!!
Don't know what's going on, randomly stumbled onto this channel, but thanks for the vibes 🤸
Really enjoyed the last tune! Very pleasant
GORGEOUS - this and your previous, “Home”, are the absolute highlights of anything I’ve heard this year - you are a wizard !
That last track was really catchy, but the whole album was enjoyable. Nice work!
Just saved the album on Bandcamp to purchase on the next Bandcamp Friday.
Daaaaaammmmnnnn genius 👏 👏 👏
So much good shit out of that biddy case. Well done. Ive had my heart set on some prok drum modules for a while and this has me sold for sure.
Cheers 🍻
Really amazing ! Kinda perfekt !
brilliant, subbed
Beast!!!
Душевно, умиротворение, покой, благодарность.
Those Prog modules are a fine bunch of drums , and what a perfect run for the money , our dear Pamela takes for the team ,-
😮 beauty
Caisteal Maol❤
This was dope af. Small case with lots of functionality. That's always a good way to work. We have too many options these days. A+
This is great man. Erased Tapes vibes. Nice compact rig too. Love my Proks!
Thanks for being one of the most musical sources of inspiration on all things modular... you have this way of storytelling I'm addicted to, and very few modular and hardware focused artists seem to get to that point. A lovely contrast compared to the work of R Beny, one of the only others who has this level of musical maturity but in a totally different style of ambient.
This is a timely tape ,- i can see me reading a book , on a plane , with this in my ears,,- very strangely , it reminds me of Bruce Springsteen .... its really beautiful , as usual - the bass i just played on top of Dunvegen , wakes up the old Synchopath in me , you really did the Drum"n Bass , so perfect here .... So full of Awe , i am ...Bravo Jay !
'Royal Mile' 🔥
Almost didn't make it on the album! I'm glad you like it.
The drums remind me of what I was doing with PD in 2003 with a mouse and keyboard. I'd hate to spend a quadrillion dollars like you have and end up with the same result. Maybe the interactive element is superior, but I'd have to perform it in a homeless shelter.
Thanks for the text on what is happening in terms of performance workflow. I would really enjoy a deeper dive into the max range of timbres each drum has as well as how your current configuration works in tandem. Was looking at options such as perkons, dfam, and drumlogue but the limitations are beyond what even I expect out of hardware.
💜
Niceee!
Right at 15:49 . . . ridin' it out! Such a great balance of lush textural tones and beats. Love it And on a small but powerful modular setup, what CAN'T you make music on!?!? Ha ha
Ik this vid is a year old but I just wanna say Dun Beag Broch is a masterpiece up to an aphex twin standard
Aaawww! You shouldn't have! How did you even know it's my birthday? 😁 What a great birthday present! Wow! I'm feeling more productive already! 😃
Hey, happy birthday!
Wow, this is inspiring! I'm embarrassed that I thought I needed 12U.
Hey, 12U is great! Lots of space for cool stuff. And thanks!
何でこんなにカッコいい音が出るんだろ?
Talent
Prok sounds awesome. What amazes me is Pam + Rample. It is VERY tedious to get this type of elaborate music composition with Pam. How much did you prepare samples for the Rample, meaning, pitch bpm etc? Rample cannot time stretch but it can do "Octatrack like" slicing - did you use this? I am really curious and would appreciate the answer - amazing work as always btw.
well done :). Cool jam. Only the snare is very present, harsh element for some chill vibes.
That's my thought too. Too many fills distracting from a ton of beauty.
Good stuff.. Love the minimal setup makes me interested to have a small modular setup! Drums are super punchy.. is there a bit of side chain happening from one of the units?
Yeah, kick is sidechaining everything else. And yeah, euro has a lot of fun and flexibility in it! And thanks!
fuckin VIBEZ
This is beyond gorgeous. I've been listening to it all day on spotify. I already wanted those prok drums, but now I really really want them. Shame the kits are no longer available. Maybe one day I'll get lucky on reverb. One question though, what's triggering the 4th prok drum (I imagine it's the prok clap)? Is pam doing that by herself, or are you doing something to route only some of the snare hits from grids to the 4th prok?
Hey thanks! Yeah, the fourth drum is usually triggered by a gate from Pam's running in Euclidean mode.
@@JayHosking Thanks! One other question, how are you able to get grids to do rolls at those tight intervals? Granted I don't have the FSR, but even when I turn the ch2 fill all the way up on my grids, I only get something like 32nd notes with no triplets, where it sounds like you're sometimes going up to 48th or 64th notes and with triplets. Is there a trick to this in grids' hidden menus that I'm unaware of?
@@palmsout If I remember correctly, you have to have some Chaos turned up to get the faster rolls. Hope that helps!
Very nice work ! Are those the default grids patterns or did you use custom ones?
These are the default ones. And thanks!
Hey I'm just about to order the case and a few modules in a month or so, I kinda read it did but is the output on the case good level for guitar pedals?
Gonna send the signal through my pedalboard and then into soundcard hoping to save money on efx modules that way. :D
lovely patch also, kinda what I'm aiming for :3 soft apex and squarepusher vibes :D
Depends on your mixer out, but should be just fine for any line-level pedal. Sounds like a fun setup!
Lovely -- what algo are you using on the FxAid? (Specifically in the first tune if you're switching it up)
It's one of the reverb algorithms, but honestly not sure (hard to keep track on the small FX Aids). I think it's probably one of the Big Sky clones. And thanks!
How much time per day do you spend on your toys. I also have a lot of equipment but am no where near proficiency with any of them.
Hard to say. Some weeks I'm at it almost every night, other weeks I can only find a day or two a week. For me, it's not about ability or a work ethic as much as it is about emphasizing fun and accomplishments, however imperfect they may be. All the best!
how to add sample to Rample?im a beginner
Add them to a micro SD in the format that Rample wants (they have links to tools on their site), organized in the way Rample wants. Not too tough!
How did you connect 14 synths to 12 power connectors?
I added a ribbon cable. Tight fit, but it worked.
Are those Rample stock samples?
No, I loaded in a bunch of stuff myself. Should be in the description!
All sound by 1case?
Yes, all sounds from this case!
I'd love to see you use a M303 rather than a drum beat if you could get your hands on one and probably the new ghost module. I just think it would work well in your hands.
I enjoyed listening to you playing Eurorack, I'd love to hear more 👌
?! You would , would you !?
Finally !! The only one who is making real music with modular.... Those GAS victims who spent fortune on modular wall and other synth and gear they don't make music at all
It's nice but I'd prefer it with no drums
You are obviously very talented. You make setups and music that I try to make!
Hard to do with eurorack ... Nice
