A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.
I captured this quickly and, only a day later, realized that I had leaned into view during the final performance. I wish my head weren't obscuring so much of the view at points, but the feeling of the jam was important enough to me that I worked with the footage I had. Hopefully it's not too disruptive.
This piece started as a semi-generative exploration on the modular rack, with Manis on one voice and a Disting oscillator on the other. But really, it came alive as soon as I added the Subharmonicon, which did its trademark magic of making a song out of a simple sequence. The DFAMs into the Boum made a great combination, as the Boum dirtied up the DFAMs a little without sacrificing their warmth, and also allowed me to filter both in at once. And the Mother 32 gave me a sketchpad where I could plonk a few notes for emphasis. Ultimately, my starting point-the semi-generative eurorack voices-took a backseat to the warmer sounds, and my mood.
Mutable Instruments Plaits - chordal drone
Moog Subharmonicon through Noise Engineering Melotus Versio - main chord progression
Moog Mother 32 - sort-of melody played by hand
Moog DFAM x 2 through OTO Boum - pitched drums
Manis Iteritas - generative sequence 1
Expert Sleepers Disting Mk4 - generative sequence 2
Qu-Bit Bloom - semi-generative sequencing
WMD Overseer through Happy Nerding FX Aid XL - master filter and reverb
ALM Busy Circuits Pamela's New Workout - clock and modulation/LFOs
Befaco STMix and Strymon AA.1 - audio routing/mixing
Erica Synths Zen Delay - delay and drive crescendo wildness
Written, performed and recorded live to two stereo outputs (DFAMs and melodics), with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

The stuff with the Zen Delay at the end is incredible. Well done as usual Jay!
Very inspiring - definitely makes me want to take the day off and play with my Moog Studio all day.
I'm developing a sci fi game right now and this reminds me a lot of the soundtrack I'm making for it.
OMFG, what have I just listened to!?
I think you perfectly encapsulated the feeling many of us are experiencing in such a remarkably beautiful way, while really making me want a zen delay lol
EXACTLY!

How do you throw so much grit on top of grit and still get it to come out so epic? This was awesome.

Incredible. Love the way it all collapses (in a meticulously controlled way).
That ending!!!
This was an unexpected ride, what a great track.
Damn...the way you had the zen delay sounding like an air raid siren at the end gave me chills. Really loved this one.

Wow, awesome sounds.
So beautiful. I never really liked the sound of the DFAM but you really make it shine.
Just listen...beautifully arranged layout, beautiful sounding...
Absolutely spectacular as usual. I just picked up the mother, sub, and dfam today. Was on the fence, but your videos sealed the deal for me. Just incredible what you can do with them (along with some of their friends).
Very nice ascent. I love the Zen Delay. :-) Bravo !

I really love all your past videos, but I think you are excelling with this modular Stuff. Maybe this is the path you must follow. Awesome!
well done
This is amazing. The Apocalypse never sounded as just!
This makes me to think of buying one of basic synths and try it on my own. Not expecting to become a second JMJ but if this will make me happy, it's worth it! You just made my life a little better 🙂
Ah the aul head in the way pitfall, have done that many a times sometimes even the whole body blocking what I thought was a good shot haha
Awesome work on this really capturing some the apocalyptic feelings of now with shimmerings of a resilient hope. Loving your work
Very very nice 👌
This IMO is your best work. What an amazing song! I bought a Moog matriarch because of you and I demand to see it in more songs!
You may just get your wish soon! And thank you for the kind words.
This sound must to be continued!
Masterpiece.

Fantastique
Excellent as always.
I'm not a big fan of the extremly wild stuff at the end but hats of to you :)
This was intense. I kept imagining this music on Interstellar or some sci-fi game 👽
Freaking killer
This should be on KEXP
Wicked my
Loving the modular tracks recently. Also, it might be worth checking out the Emblematic Catalyst. It’s a super flexible macro-crossfader for eurorack. It uses “scenes” just like the Octa
Emblematic Catalyst sounds right up my alley. Thanks!
Man that Zen Delay is fun!
It really is!
Pretty fuckin sick. Haha I'd come over and jam.
FUCK!
NO OTHER WORDS!
That Zen delay is not simply a delay I guess, it also shape the characters of the sound itself. Amazing pedals. I might consider buy some external pedals instead of using my DAW to give sounds effects😂
😎
This song is probably about Elden Ring.
I have the same ❤
Hey. You started out drones style then you were making it more melodic. I have most of the gear you have shown here, yet my compositions that I have already done are very different. (I noticed that there's a very repetitiveness in the tracks that I have posted on my channel, I have a kinda way that I make tracks and I guess that's why they have the style they have.
I usually patch/program something then let it go. I don't really make music as a performance. I Also have recently noticed that the more gear that I accumulate, the more confusion can happen because there's too much options. (I recently was watching someone else patch a eurorack synth with three voices going and just the patching process was getting him boggled. I guess it depends how much you like to dive deep into the modular, I like it But I also like to be able to come out with ideas fast and not be too complicated in the process. Sometimes a small system is even more productive I guess. Just an opinion.
