    What a fun machine to use!
    The Volca drum is a percussion synthetizer that allows you to design your own drum sounds and play them with a powerful sequencer.
    Both the synth part and the sequencer part offer a lot of options, which make the Vocla Drum a very powerful machine for both studio production and live performance.

    Best tutorial on the drum I've seen thus far. You beat out loopop by a smidge with personality. Both of you guys have further educated me on this little beast.
    However something I feel a lot of people don't know is how to maximize the wave guide. What I do is in each part I edit by layer and never 1+2 together until after I've gotten both layers mastered. But before I master each layer I set all parameters to zero (bit, fld, drive, pan, and gain). On the sequencer I place my sounds for a layer at a time, and turn the gain down to -100. You shouldn't hear anything at all. Then I set my send to about 192 and the decay on the wave guide to 192 to 228. Then I start adding drive. You'll start to hear the delay feedback of that part increase in sound. I then modify the fld and then the bit. Now all you'll hear is the feedback but not the sound of the part until you raise the gain. I find this to be a great way of getting the most out of the wave guide and getting a nice clean level to each layer of each part.

    Brilliant tutorial, thank you so much. Really appreciate the hidden functions towards the end. As soon as I turned mine on I heard some presets loops that had chance on some hits creating ever changing loops that sound less repetitive. It makes a big difference with volcas. I now how, Volca Sample, Bass, FM and Drum along with Mix. Few effect modules too. I don't produce music, I just love to dive in and make a load of noise and until I feel sick and then turn it all off haha

    I've had a volca drum for about 3 years now. I love how surprisingly deep it is, and the wide sonic palette since each pad has full access to the sound engine (x2). I'm still discovering little tricks and techniques almost every time I sit down to play with it. The waveguide feature especially gives this drum a special fingerprint. It continues to earn its place in my live sets even though I have other gear like the Nord Drum and Elektron Digitakt.

    Wow each part different active step? Had no idea they could be internally polyrythmic, amazing. Really nice video overall, I admit when I first read about this volca I was into its method (like the nord drum kinda) but wasn't super jazzed ... well your patterns kick the F outta the analog/hybrid volca beats! And way more unique than sampler of course.

    Hey you know what's cool? If you have active step set to a small window of steps, you can still use step jump to play other steps that aren't active. It will loop the active step section until you stomp on other steps with step jump, using a combination of slice and probability on the other steps it's so much fun to use for fills, cycling polyrhythmic rudiments, all you have to do is lay your fingers on it and move them around. So much fun!

  • @fullconsciousness1448
    @fullconsciousness1448 3 года назад +4

    Nice video and lesson...Sequences always have to be loaded with a Kit associated, so they can sound. If you want certain sequences to be played with a specific Kit (or the many ones) , just save each Program with the desired Kit(s) . Also with the volca drum, always save changes to the Kit first before saving the Program, otherwise, changes to the Kit wil not have effect. Keep in mind that changes to a Kit will affect every sequence that uses that Kit, so maybe better to save a changed Kit in a new location if using it with different automation or changes and save the Program with that new kit even if just minor changes were made.
