He could have just said he was getting better. It's not uncommon to walk only short distances (like to the bathroom), while still spending most of your time in the wheel chair during recovery.

If he hadn’t immediately tried covering it up and lying about falling, things might have worked out better for him, tbh. Like, he should have come clean about his recovery from the start of the drama, and apologized for misleading his audience about the nature of his temporary disability. If he had said “I’ve actually been recovering for a while and am less dependent on my wheelchair than I was. I should have mentioned it to you guys before, and I’m sorry to have misled you” (or something along those lines), I’m sure he would have gotten SO MUCH more respect from everyone watching. I believe he’s telling the truth about it in the interview he did with Wavy, but lying about it when it happened was a terrible move on his part, and I hope he’s learned from the backlash.

Yes, there are chronic and invisible illnesses that mean some people with said illness can walk but get tired and/or sore easier. Can also be days where said person can stand and walk around just fine, though it depends on the person, illness, conditions or severity..
He didn't fall you could see in his body language the way he faces to stand up, and that the chair doesn't move that much. You'd then hear a "thump" if he fell 😔
      Wish people weren't like this
-Edit, because I realised there's no audio (that's why there's no thump, lmao I had a dumb moment)
However upon closer inspection, if you look at 3:09 in the fishtank you can see he walks off and doesn't fall over once, very steadily walked out of frame.

I often use a wheelchair, but I have full function over my legs, it's because I pass out when I stand up for too long. So many people think I fake because I can stand up, as long as I know I'm going to be walking a short distance and sit down again soon. It's so embarrassing to be harassed in public over it.

He probably didn't plan for a scenario like that to play out, where he accidentally stood up on stream, odds are he assumed he would never make such a stupid mistake. And most likely 98% of the time he was hyper aware that he must stay glued to his chair. But after streaming every day with all the repetition, he finally slipped up and without even thinking about it stood up and walked away.
Then at that moment he was panicking and couldn't think up a good lie on the spot, he had to think of something right then and there while his chat was freaking out and he couldn't come up with something fast enough. The "oh yeah I'm not completely paralyzed, it just really hurts, but I can stand if I really need to!", which goes against everything his chat believed because they thought he was paralyzed from the waist down, not just in a lot of pain and capable of walking.
      Hindsight is 20/20.

There's a piece of this story that all the comments are missing, or only addressing half of the controversy. While it is true that there are disabled people who do not need a wheelchair at all times, and may need it for assistance for certain tasks or to make mobility easier, the issue is that he blatantly hid his recovery process for monetary gain. Money was pouring in through donations and subscriptions, and it was the crux of the growth of his channel. His girlfriend was in on the scheme as well. Why lie about falling? Why did the girlfriend make up a blatantly fabricated story to distract from the "miraculous" walking? The issue is not that he forgot to update his viewers. It's the intent behind it. Lying by omission is still lying. And using this facade for monetary gain is immoral.

I'm gonna offer some insight here, as a disabled individual, by first stating that I'm not really upset at what he did. As someone who has a physical disability that does sometimes let me walk without my assistance tools or do things differently on some days than others, I can understand the need to just tell people that you... just use a wheelchair. Not "I sometimes do", etc. It sounds crazy, but there is like this... stigma that people don't talk about when it comes to physical disabilities. People see someone in a wheelchair and don't think "Oh I wonder if they use it all the time". People see that person in a wheelchair and it's just accepted that that's how it should be. I felt so embarrassed with it at first, I would never tell people that I didn't need it all the time, otherwise I was scared people would just assume I was faking it or over-exaggerating my symptoms to garner sympathy, because sadly that IS reality and that DOES happen. My brother to this day believes I just exaggerate my symptoms because I appear "normal" and that I can sometimes get around fine.
I'm not saying what he did was right, because he was advocating for disabled individuals in the streaming scene while not being honest and having an open dialogue with his community. But I am saying I can understand why he wouldn't.

I’m partially wheelchair bound due to chronic pain. Most days I walk around the house with a stick and use the chair for going outside, but I have found that in my scenario (which obviously isn’t everyone’s) that I have a hard time sitting up in a chair for a while except in my wheelchair due to the footrests.
Most people assume if you’re in a chair you can’t walk, and are often surprised when I step out of it for a moment to get over a large step.

he didn't fake the disibility he faked the severity of it. He was in an accident which left him in a wheelchair but he could walk small distances.

He could’ve just said he’s a partial wheelchair user. Most wheelchair users can actually stand, just not for long.

the thing with wheelchair usage is that he may have been partially dependent for awhile, being able to walk short distances but still needing it for longer distances, but he should have just explained the situation. Lots of disabled ppl who depend on wheelchairs part time/during certain flair ups do get harrassed for seeming "fake" and I feel like this is a weird situation that could have been solved by him explaining from the beginning that his fulltime wheelchair usage wasn't permanent/he was working on recovering. Overall a shitty situation, wish he wouldn't have lied.

I have quite severe hEDS and might have to be in a wheelchair part time soon, and because of people like this im scared of doing so bc im scared that people will think im like this person on days i can walk

I wouldn’t say faked, maybe he “lied” by omission and there can still be invisible aspects to/stuff people want private about their body condition, but the demand of disability status to be open to public opinion rather than left to medical professionals can get pretty gross imo.

I mean some people can still walk in a wheelchair but it can be incredibly painful. My legs are in agony every step I take after leg day and makes me want to just stay in bed till they recover, I can only imagine actual injury.

Not all wheelchair users are fully unable to walk or use their wheelchair all the time and I don’t understand why random strangers feel entitled to the details of a disabled person’s condition. It gives getting angry at a person for putting their car in the reserved parking spot because they don’t “look disabled” energy.
Edit: I don’t think able bodied people should be the ones judging who’s faking a disability or not unless you’re specifically that person’s doctor. Actually no one else should. You don’t have all the details and no one is owed to explain them to you.

bruh right after the incident he was straight up lying telling people that he fell off the chair when he was clearly walking. There's giving benefit of the doubt to people and then there's being gullible.

Why do streamers think they can pull this shit and get away with it? You have a higher chance of getting caught online, then on the street.

To be totally fair: some people need wheelchairs for chronic pain and not a permanent movement impairment. Some people can get up for short periods to walk, that doesn’t mean they’re faking it. Idk about this guy, though.

Concerning the wheelchair, I worked at an airport for a while and we had to take a lot of reservations with people who had to ask for the airport's wheelchair.
There were like three different codes to determine what type of assistance they needed concerning the wheelchair. There was a code for people who could walk for a certain period of time, but not climb steps, a code for people who could walk and go climb a few steps only by still needing a wheelchair for most of the time, and there is a code for the ones who cannot walk or use their legs at all without one.
I'm just saying this to show that there are different types of needs for each individual person when it comes to walking disabilities. I'm talking about this to educate people who were wondering about it, but I still think that it is a bit strange that the streamer didn't seem to want to tell the truth when it happened (if it is even the truth to begin with).
