  • The 2007 Jeep Commander. a 7 seater SUV which in 2022 is a very expensive choice to run, low mpg even from the diesel in the Jeep Commander and expensive road tax.
Whilst we take a look around and drive this 2007 Jeep.Commanfer the big question is and what I'd like to know from you is...
... Is it worth it to run such an SUV in 2022? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

I bought an used 2008 Commander 3.7, 4x4. I absolutely love driving it. It does use a lot of gas but for the safety I felt driving in the snow/ice and wet weather conditions, it was a good trade off. Not to mention the accessibility to change the starter, alternator, battery and, oil is amazing. I have not had any issues with this vehicle as I keep the maintenance up. I would highly recommend getting one to anyone who has ever thought about it.

I keep maintenance high on the priority list, too! Just put in a whole new front suspension and shocks on rear. Greatly improved the ride. BTW: the dipstick on these is hard to remove and reinsert. I’ve broken the handle off it twice now. Just ordered an aluminum handle for it, though, so that shouldn’t happen again (mine is ‘08 4.7L, 300k miles)

I'm an old gal. My Jeep is an '06 5.7 Hemi. I also had a 4.7. In my experience, the Hemi gets as good of mileage as the 4.7. Out of all the gas guzzling SUV's I have owned, My Hemi feels worth it. I love it.

Original owner of a black 2008 Overland Commander Hemi quadra drive II with 250k miles on it. Still runs great, original motor, and tranny, very few problems. Most reliable vehicle I have owned in 40 years. Put a 2 inch lift on it, custom wheels, and bigger tires, just got back from off road trails in Moab Utah...great family fun.

This is great video, thanks for making it! I've been eyeing Commanders lately too, I needed slightly bigger 7 seater SUV and my first choice would be Discovery 3. But I'm worried about Disco's general running costs and the longevity of the mechanics, at least Jeep parts would be cheaper (the ones which are not Merc parts, that is). I once sat in driver's seat of a Commander in a showroom and I really liked the utilitarian, no-nonsense atmosphere inside. But the biggest drawback of these old SUVs is that in my country you can't get them cheap. At UK prices I'd probably get a write-off at best, a reasonable mileage runner would still cost about 200 to 250% more than similar one in UK. =(

as an owner of both this and the disco3 and 4s I can say that the mpg difference is only real world 2/3 mpg.
compare that to mega money spent of fixing discos regularly compared to pittance on the jeep and tax difference. Then the cost of running is in cheapest order on an average year including 2022 up to now.
number 3 ie the worst disco 3
number 2 slightly better mpg and bit better reliability (still shocking )disco 4
number 1 the cheapest to run in real world jeep.
note non of the above are cheap but when is a 7 seater real 4*4 ever looked at under cheap running costs.
You will enjoy any of them .Just u would rather live with the jeep .

I own a 2007 with the 5.7 Hemi, with every option available that model year. I'm not the original owner, however it's always been within the family and lovingly cared for. I live in Michigan and have ZERO rust. That's unheard of for a vehicle of this age, in my state. My 07 Commander looks and drives as the day it left the showroom floor and everything works as designed. I just picked it up this morning from the dealership for my 3K mile oil change. That's important. Don't try to save a dollar, pound, etc by having just anyone take care of your aging Jeep. Take it to an authorized Jeep/Chrysler service department and avoid the unnecessary grief. If you have a Commander, keep it and take care of it. It will take care of you. I'll never one day say "I shouldn't have sold it."

The jeep also started acting like it was starving for power. I shut they key off, all the lights went off and it gained it's power back. BUT it went from about 15 mpg to less then 6 mpg? We have a 2008 Jeep Commander Overland. Owned it since 2014. Not maintenance free but within budget. Air conditioning rebuild was pricey but front & rear AC has run perfect for 3 years now. Recommend buying a new MOPAR compressor if you need a compressor. Auto store sourced will destruct in only 1 year. The Jeep system is just so big!
Overland 342 cu in HEMI V-8 will push our Papa Bear to 129 mph, making it our fastest tractor.😁
PS gas was 38.9,¢ per gallon in 1971 (Dodge Charger R/T 440 Magnum), so 2022 US gasoline prices don't bother us 1 bit. Broken back to 1971 dollars, cost is only 41.5¢ per gallon. The Commander Overland is a completely competent, robust, safe, and reliable vehicle for the open road, town, or backwoods (or the Outback).

    • @DoomBeard
      @DoomBeard Месяц назад +1

@@WhereGoggsyGoes you know what mate it’s been pretty good for my needs. I bought one within a few days of watching original video. I managed to bag a 3.0CRD with around 125k on the clock, thats now at 150k. There has been plenty of niggles, but they are mostly electrical. For a short period of time it seemed to have a life of its own, alarm going off, wipers going crazy, headlights and horn flashing etc. However, after joining the Commander owners forum it was quickly diagnosed and I needed a new ignition switch which was about 50 quid.
I have taken it all over the UK and Ireland, and have done plenty of camping. It fits a generic double airbed in the back quite nicely! I have installed a 2” Rough Country lift, which can cause some issues with strain on the steering rack if not done correctly, but it’s has a nice stance now and sits level. Iv got some adjustable control arms coming which will hopefully ease any access strain.
I also bought 4 cans of Raptor paint and sprayed the wheel flares for better protection on narrow roads. I have also removed the 3rd row seats as they are pretty much useless and has made the vehicle much lighter!
MPG isn’t great, but it’s a Mercedes engine and pulls like a steam train! I’d say realistically around town i get 20mpg and closer to 30mpg on a run at around 60/65mph. Iv had a bit of work done on the engine, new crank case seal as I had sone oil weepage, and some fuel injector o-rings which were about 10p each! Iv also had the resonator kidney dish thing removed and replaced with some pipe as the old one was pretty beat up.
Other than it’s been really cool! The Quadadrive system in fields is bloody impressive!
There’s a channel on here called “Just Commander” I’d check out for basic mods and improvements. The guy no longer has his Commander but has left his channel up. Iv basically copied every single one of his videos.
I’m gunna keep it until it dies, then I’ll just buy another! I will say one thing tho, there isn’t much after market choice for styling upgrades in the UK which is a shame.

@@DoomBeard Dude, I honestly did not expect a reply like that and I'll tell you now I'm grateful for the effort!
I think any vehicle after 125k has some form of niggles, but it all depends on its condition and truly how previous owners have cared for the vehicle.
I've fallen out of love with my Volvo XC90 and it's costing me too much in repairs and I feel like the juice isn't worth the squeeze. So getting rid of it and buying a Commander, it seems like a super sensible option. 7 seats (I have three wild boys), spacious, robust, somewhate reliable, DVD system, comfortable and full of 2000s luxury.

I'm not so much worried about cost of fuel consumption, I think if it makes me feel great then fuck it why not. Tempted on a 5.7 V8 Hemi that's converted to LPG 🤔 Decisions Decisions haha.

I purchased my 07 Jeep Commander V8, 5.7 L Automatic HEMI brand new and 16 years, 159,469 Miles later I still have it and absolutely LOVE IT... The only problem I have is water 💧 coming through the sunroof and not draining properly, and it gets my floors wet... I think that's a poor design... other than that, I'm very happy with my Jeep and hope to reach the 300,000 mark... God bless you all. 🙏 ✝️

Thats awesome to hear, this one was the Diesel but I can only imagine how much better it would be with the hemi v8 Rumble.
maybe check the rubber seals around that area and drain plugs, they may be perished or the plugs may be blocked with debris like dust and leaves maybe.
Thank you for watching and hope you hit that 300,000 Mark too 🙌🏻

Hello, I live in Germany, I'm looking to buy a jeep like the video but with 240 thousand km. The car is exactly the same as the video, very beautiful. I had the opportunity to drive and everything is fine. But I'm worried about the mileage being a little high. In your opinion, is it worth buying, are these engines reliable, what are the pros and cons of this machine? Car 2006

    • @pittmotoring
      @pittmotoring  4 месяца назад

150k miles for a diesel is pretty common, I believe they use a Mercedes engine for the Diesel models. I would make sure to check the Cars service history, that is a good indication if it has been looked after well or not, check reciepts/invoices for any work carried out. That may help you with a decision. But with any older car, they could have issues or issues later in ownership.
I hope this helps, and good luck in your search for a Commander

Bought my 5.7L HEMI 4x4 Limited in 2006. Still use it everyday, got 211,000 miles. Had major transmission once ($3,000 USD) in 2018, replaced suspension in 2020 (wear and tear over the years) and upgraded break discs. No other major problems. I love it and will never sell it!
