Thanks, Allie! Andre Leon Talley has been my fashion and journalism icon since the late 70s! My journalism teacher in high school was a huge fan of his interviewing techniques specifically his ability to be prepared and fully researched on his subject! That technique was her benchmark for us and I am so grateful I had that as although I went into business and not journalism, being prepared like that gave me success in making and closing deals. Andre was an amazing talent!

What an amazing human-Andre Leon Talley was the whole package!! I truly wept when I learned of his passing, and I believe the world is a better place for him having been in it. I MUST read this book, I love when the author assumes your knowledge is on par with theirs and you spend another 200 pages worth of time on Wikipedia as a result :'D
I'm so thankful for you choosing to talk about him, much of our knowledge about fashion icons is thanks to his penmanship and his personality of making great artists feel comfortable about sharing bits of themselves for the public.
His life and career is very inspiring and he must've had thrice as much strength and perseverance in him than the average person, given the circumstances of the time he had to deal with. I'm shocked to learn that racism was still on such high levels in France in the 70s and 80s. That's just ruining my idea of Europe being a bit more enlightened after WWII... Nah. Even today, sometimes it's unbelievable what's happening around us.
I'm glad he succeeded and I'm very happy about his influence in the recent past. Thanks for this new knowledge, again, Allie!

I was so excited when I got the notification on this! I thought I may have suggested him, but idk? When he passed and I read an extensive bio on him, I was floored by everything he had accomplished! Anyway…. On with watching!

ALT was such an amazing person, full of vitality and flair. His autobiography is absolutely worth a read for anyone interested. Wonderful job covering this legend! He is definitely missed. He and Grace Coddington were more Vogue than Anna Wintour in my eyes. (Yes, that's a very hot take lol)

I love Andre! He really one of the first black person to really work behind the scenes of the fashion industry. (Not as a black model like Iman or Naomi Campbell but as a fashion editor) He was so educated and intelligent and the funny thing is he knew much more about fashion history than his white co-workers so that's why there were some who were jealous of him. I agree with you that I think they used his skin color and racism to make him feel bad and insecure because they were intimidated by him, as most bullies are really just very insecure people. But he also did have many powerful white friends who accepted him and supported his fashion carreer I watched his documentary movie "The Gospel According the Andre" (I recommend you watch it too) and the sad part is that Andre said he never fell in love because he dedicated his whole life to the fashion industry and in the end after he got older and obese his fashion friends turned out to be fake and just completely abandoned him so he was deeply depressed during his final years and he wrote the Chiffon Trenches book after Anna Wintour had backstabbed him and cut him off. But after he died, she had the nerve to show up at his funeral. 🙄
That's deeply sad! He was such a tremendous force but it's too bad he didn't have a better personal life.

Hello Alli and thank you for this video! I didn’t know much about Andre Leon Talley’s life so it was very interesting to listen to you telling his life story. It’s a shame that racism has been and still is a plague upon this earth. Hopefully things will get better with time.
