A walk around Christie's New York to see the items in André Leon Talley Estate up for auction.
The auction benefits Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York and Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina. I also read that SCAD (The Savannah College of Art and Design) also received donations from his estate. Looking forward to seeing how they'll display. Hopefully on my next visit to Savannah!
    Info from Christie's www.christies.com/en/auction/the-collection-of-andre-leon-talley-20995-nyr/overview
The auction was held on February 15, 2023, and here are the results: www.christies.com/auction/the-collection-of-andre-leon-talley-20995-nyr
I saw Andre Leon Talley once in person. He was leaving Rizzoli Bookstore in the Flatiron District in the mid-2010s and getting into a car. A totally instantly recognizable presence as he sat in the car and scooped his caftan into the cabin.

Andre' Leon Talley leaves a magnificent legacy! He remains beyond iconic! He loved, ate and breathed history, fashion and culture. He had a profound knowledge of the industry. He was taught and learned about Black style specifically the herstoric/historic contributions of great class and style of Black women and men from his grandmother. There is no equal! nor comparison! He bought intellect, class, vibrancy and flare. He owned every space he entered. Thank you for your service, well done! Bravo! Rest well Sir!

Some of this should go in the African American museum in Washington DC. I can't believe all this is being auctioned. Such a rich legacy.

Hi Michelle, Some did end up in good hands: SCAD, the Savannah College of Arts & Design, had first dibs at his estate. What went up for auction was what was leftover. He was very involved with SCAD (they have a huge fashion program & museum). I haven't noticed Scad do anything with his items yet, but I have faith they'll do him justice. Thanks for watching!!

The kimonos are exquisite and ethereal. I had the pleasure of working with Andre and Naomi Campbell during NY Fashion Week as a wardrobe assistant. He was and still is...legendary.

This video confirms what I've always believed about ALT: that he was as much the art as the artiste. Thank you for sharing this video, and the page with the results. So glad to know the churches and SCAD have benefitted from the auction.

Seeing Andre Leon Talley during my NYC days was always a treat. He created iconic looks out of existing pieces and glorious capes, robes and shawls. Not only did he look like a legend, he smelled divine and was kind.
