Hi all,
I got the chance to see the collection of André Leon Talley and the auction at Christie's.
This is upsetting because this man was soooo underrated. The fact that Rihanna honored him at the Super Bowl Half-Time Speaks volumes.
I agree! He is an ICON of fashion.
I had I idea that is such a great fact to know
Fascinating video! What a treasure trove of fashion history!
Thank you for watching, Mary 💕 it was an incredible experience.
I’m surprised by the empty seats- expected it to be packed. Such a wonderful collection
By the end it got a bit more empty but people were definitely also bidding online and on phone. There were bidding wars happening on almost every lot.
THIS WAS A PREVIEW.
@@mareerogers1114 No, if you watched the whole video it features both. it was an in person auction.
I love how unlike other icon collections auctioned in the past, you can tell he used and actually enjoyed the pieces and didn’t put them in a glass box just to look at them. Almost as if he was telling us to do the same with them, take care of the items but also use and enjoy them as well.
Couldn't agree more! He has amazing taste and it shows. Beautiful collection and it was sad to see at the end of it.
Absolutely!
Absolutely some of his LV luggage still had airline tags on them! I just thought this man really lived his life and used everything!
thank you for posting this! Such a treat, and the music choice is great. Jazz is improv, elegance, and a bit of nostalgia (just like Andre. )
Thank you for watching. I was glad to be able to attend 💕
Wow that was very interesting 😊 Thank you ,
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching
So I was watching "The first Monday in May," on RUclips the other day (it's free right now,) about the Met Gala and every time André appeared on my tiny phone screen my inner child screamed with joy. I only knew him from guest judging on America's Next Top Model, I had no idea how remarkable he was in his career. I just knew I loved him and his style and I was sad whenever he's not onscreen and I couldn't wait to hear him speak again. Since then I was sad to learn he's passed away, but it's kind of cool to process it all now when I know all of the proceeds from his auction will go to his favorite churches and that he was paid proper respect with tributes from the entire fashion world. I'm blessed to have been born the same year he started working at Vogue.
Thank you for watching. I agree with you, it was also sad when I attended the auction in person. André is amazing and his legacy will live on.
A wonderful exhibition. It should have been sent around the world before selling it, at least to Paris 😉. Would have loved to see it.
I totally agree! I wish there’s an exhibition about his life. Maybe one day. Thank you for watching 💕
Thank you so much for posting 🌞
Thank you for watching 😊
Wow!!! Thanks for sharing this with us!
My pleasure!! Thank you for watching
Wow such a cool video I was super interested in this auction and ALT legacy. Thank you so much for posting the video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching :)
They went for insane prices against the very low estimation. People might not care much abt ALT but his collection is very valuable
So true! He has amazing pieces, a true fashion icon.
I cried from the pink room furniture to the end. So sad
It is sad 😢
really enjoyed this - love from the UK x
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching 😊
The items looked stunning - I only wish the video had been in focus so that the details could be better seen.
Thank you for the feedback. will keep that in mind.
Interesting that he has blackamoor jewelry.
This figure is totally wrong. I was at the sale, as Andre was a friend of a friend I guess you could say, and the auction total was just North of 1.3 million dollars.....no where near 3 million dollars.
Hi there,
I was there as well. Christie’s does mentions 1.3 million dollars but nbc news etc mentioned 3.6 million. So I don’t know which one is accurate. During in person auction, it was only 60 pieces being auctioned and the rest was online.
@MoniqueSinha I garuntee you that almost 4 million is not accurate.
Sad he had no children to inherit all his treasure trove of items.Just sad.
I don’t think his life was sad. The pieces go to the people who appreciate him.
