I refuse to believe he’s gone. He was such a bon vivant. I thought surely that he’d live another 20-30 years. Such a vibrant, robust life force.

So good to have these interviews, his book and the film where we can enjoy Andre anytime to mood strikes.......I met him and had a brief chat at a housing Works benefit...I treasure that ...he was SO warm and so real...
Daniella, we can practically see your undies....skirt too short for a "lady".

There is a mistake in the chapters at 43:00. It should read Mrs. Vreeland not "Rielen"
Thank you for uploading such a fantastic lecture.

In my opinion, Andre was a glorified pet, a token to those people, and he knew it. As a Black person, you don't usually reach certain levels/circles in the fashion industry (or ANY industry) because of your talent or influence: you're allowed in because you're a novelty and "fun", even when you have the credentials to stand on your own. But he made a choice to go along with the charade all these decades, because of the access it gave him to fashion.
Deep down, he knew that without their fake-ass friendships and alliances, the privileges available to him would be cut off. Without the benevolence of Anna, he didn't have a leg to stand on in the fashion world. He sacrificed his pride and integrity to be Vogue's adored pet, until he wasn't anymore. He was the first Black creative director at American Vogue, although it is highly doubtful he would've ever been considered to replace Anna. He had a good run, but what a high price he paid.

Imagine being this jaded and jealous of someone that you come on this page to write something like this after they are gone. Were many of those friendships fake? Definitely. But to use your ignorance to strip this man of the knowledge he truly had is disgusting. Anna Wintour even said herself that Andre TAUGHT HER much about fashion. Do your homework, or keep your mouth closed.

      VERY WELL STATED.
THE PET WAS EVEN ALLOWED TO GET MORBIDLY OBESE AND IN THE END LIVE ON DINNER FOOD IN WESTCHESTER, TILL THE END.

Joie de vivre. Rest in style. Here we see Andre's health was in decline. There are indications of respiratory troubles and excess weight which are a foothold for the current malady raging all all around the world.
