I like that the Koopa seemingly kept some of their kind personality as they expressed worry when cursing Mario and thanking him for letting the monologue play out despite going through it three times already.
That's a great point I should have brought up! He says "Wait, that's maybe too much. Are you all right? That didn't really hurt, did it?" which makes it clear that their "nefarious nature" is a performance. Such a good line!
@@ThaneGamingit's very reminiscent of the little demon dudes dialogue from A Link to the Past who 'curses' Link by slashing his magic consumption in half.
Getting eaten by a Dragon. Getting your body and soul sucked on by an Undead Pirate King. Getting sucked up and used as ammunition. And even being pulled into the Abyss to heal a Demon Queen. Seriously, who keeps buying tickets to these shows?!
@michealforguson5317 The concept of bonetail is a very scary one too, it’s dead but thanks to the dark magic it’s been created by it’s still alive so unless it’s got time traveling powers it’s stuck at the bottom of the pit of 100 trails awaiting some kind of interaction…..
Maybe the ticket price includes a complimentary revive-shroom, or whatever the one that kicks in when your HP hits zero...? Or extra lives aren't just for the Mario bros?
Also it bears mentioning that apparently the dull bones in Hooktail's castle are reanimated by their regret for their lust for treasure as mentioned by the one koopa whos constantly being a jerk over in petal meadows only if you talk to him immediately after beating Hooktail and getting through the intermissions.
Hooktail may have survived actually because if you return to her lair she’s missing and Goombella wonders where she went. She probably fled off to some other part of the world and didn’t have time to get back to her brother. That actually feels darker to me than her dying because she would likely just continue eating people…
She still could have flown off and died off-screen, but you can interpret it either way! I think it is important to bring up Goombella's tattle when revisiting the room--you're right, her surviving and flying away to terrorize another town is actually darker!
Well most things you off tend to turn into coins so she may have poofed. What's scarier are those smogs that just blow away off the train to probably terrorise innocents somewhere
@sokumotanaka9271 Don’t forget about say Mario and friends didn’t defeat gloomtail and bonetail they’re trapped in their rooms, immune to time but can still die, the fact that bonetail is still alive is just scary, but it’s the dark magic the dragons were created from.
I like that Yugioh joke of Shadow Realm and restoring Lifepoints. As someone who in the past watched the entirety of the original Yugioh anime's dub, and have been a player of the card game for a very long time now, I appreciate the reference, as unexpectedly as it is hearing it in a Paper Mario dark lore video.
You see this is why I love this game so much. This is why a lot of people miss this. Sure it doesn't always have to be dark but don't make your story boring.. TTYD is what happens when people actually care about making a great damn story along with captivating characters that we can love and nurture.
I've always said that I very slightly prefer the N64 Paper Mario to this one, but I do think the remake might change that. I like that the localization is closer to the original Japanese script, and the quality of life features that help mitigate the backtracking make the once tedious segments fun. Sure, there are some things the GameCube version did better (text speed, for example), but overall I vastly prefer the remake. Imo the updated OST is incredible, and the presentation is a major upgrade (especially when comparing the character animations & lighting).
The game already has a ton of text since so many NPCs have new things to say depending on what's happening in the story, but it's wild to me that Goombella's tattles basically double that. I wonder how the localization work for this game compares to something like Animal Crossing...
the wack part about the extremely rare Dark Bone's game over in the Palace of Shadows is apparently, you have to get into a really specific spot among the mass of Dry Bones, moving the stick so you're in the exact right spot of the Dark hole, so the Dark Hole can drag Mario+Partner under. cuz otherwise it surprisingly makes Mario automatically Jump out if you do it wrong. its interestingly Tricky for a game-over, you have to work for it. 🤔 Ghost T also has an interesting change from the original regarding the Diary. specifically, if you read it in front of him in the original, he would reappear instantly while right in front of you. but in the remake when reading it in front of him, because it causes the screen to go black and white, Ghost T actually temporarily pops outta exstence. then spooks you at the end of it-
The Dark Bones game over (at least in the remake) can be triggered simply by letting go of the control stick entirely--after the dialogue box Mario will automatically be pulled towards it and the darkness portal opens up in the floor. That's interesting if it's different like you say in the original!
I just assumed Hooktail was sending email messages to Gloomtial over the phone or other device like Mario gets in game. Oh and speaking of which for both dragons after being defeated if you stay in the room their bodies twitch which makes it even more disturbing.
It's just so fascinating to me, for some reason. I think it's because the developers have limitations as to how far they can go; there's a certain beauty to subtlety and it's fun to talk about the surprising things the writers can get away with, as opposed to something that's overtly adult
I was really surprised when the toad family actually had a developing story over the course of the game, i thought they would just be one off joke characters
I can kind of see it if you like at the outside sprite of her castle, like the three "horns" standing in for the three towers! That is pretty interesting, I never noticed it before
This isn't super relevant, but in the Japanese version the Goomba of the Four Heroes is actually referred to as he/him rather than she/her- I'm assuming the ENG version changed this to be more equal 🤔 But reflecting this, only the box containing the Boo has a more high-pitched voice in the remake (but they do all have slightly different voices!) I also always felt the way the Toad was described as being barely able to talk (that's the phrasing from the German loc at least) might suggest he was a quote unquote silent protagonist like Mario, haha
He says "You will go no farther, and from this moment on...you'll be nothing but bones!" Which reads to me as "I'm stopping you here, and now I will kill you", rather than him warning about Mario becoming bones if he goes deeper into the castle.
okay i was gonna watch this but i got a few minutes in and the retelling of the story really gripped me and i want to experience it for myself first this is the first time "go and play the game before watching" has actually worked on me. so. um. great game. amazing game even. 10/10.
Glad to hear it, that's awesome! Do let me know if/when you decide to play it and what you think, I'd love to hear from someone experiencing it for the first time
@@BlueEngland right on! It's funny because Chapters 1 & 2 might be my least favorite (I still think they're fun though), while 3 & 4 are my most favorite. What do you think so far?
@@ThaneGaming I can definitely see why chapter 2 isn't a favourite. I forgot about Flurrie's blowing ability quite a bit too and that first part where you have to get the Punies across the bubble part has been the only time I've had to use a guide. Hopefully I don't have to again. I think the game's really fun though. I've had a lot of fun with Goombella's descriptions of characters. Definitely a lot more fun than sticker star & origami king for me.
0:48 ... Everything eise i can imagine you saying aside with what stayed in the original, I'm very surprised the noose survived development lol like i low key just assumed they'll censor the game with the noose(and maybe flurrie 😂) , and that was a sacrifice i low key accepted as i watched no gameplay, and after seeing the noose, I felt like the game will be. In tac lol
Yknow, and maybe spoilers but... I wonder why characters that are implied dead or permanently disfigured appear in the credits completely fine (until they get attacked again) Like, I can buy that we simply put Hooktail in a coma or something, but Grodus is a different story. If they can make him a body for the credits, why does he remain a head after them?
Hmm...maybe what we see as the credits is the curtain call for the "Paper Mario" play written by the Toad in Rogueport? I'm not sure otherwise 😅 SPOILERS: I honestly think the whole Grodus being just a head after clearing the game is funny but kinda lame, because it showed the Shadow Queen striking him with lightning as a head and he dissappeared...it's like the developers didn't want to commit to him dying
This reminds me that TTYD has a reference to Santa Claus 😅 a bandit on the east side of Rogueport talks about a guy jumping from roof to roof and going down chimneys (in chapter 5 IIRC, as a hint for how to reach Bobbery)
That does put a lot of those earlier scenes into perspective. I wonder if she really did let Peach get away with the map on purpose? Beldam wanted her to be a vessel for the Shadow Queen's from the start, so maybe she figured the X-Nauts would capture her regardless, and didn't want Grodus to have the map? If that's the case, she would've had to have known that Peach would send it to Mario (and that he'd be able to collect all the Crystal Stars)...
(I don’t feel like deleting the comment cause I liked talking about this one in particular but thank you thane for clarifying it was talked about) One other non traditional game over that wasn’t talked about (at least I assume I haven’t seen the whole video yet) was the one with the dark bones room where you actually get dragged into darkness if you don’t get the dry bones off of you, it’s really been bothering me recently especially since your party member out basically just says “we’re done for or we’re finished” or whatever family friendly way to say we’re dead and yells in terror, that has been making me feel very uneasy ever since I saw it For my peace of mind I’m going to imagine that this “endless darkness” is like where Vivian and the other shadows can traverse to, especially cause of the shadowy effect in the remake, and Vivian can kind of bring everyone back out. None of them really realize this though which is why they’re terrified of what’s happening especially cause of all the dry bones and being forcefully pulled into the shadows like that, for myself this is my headcanon
I do mention it at 16:22--I love that scene because it raises the stakes of the similar sequence in Hooktail Castle (where you're simply kicked out of the room)! I like your perspecitve on the scene, it's scary to imagine Mario & his companions suffering in the "endless darkness"...
@@ThaneGamingok thank you for clarifying cause yeah I haven’t been able to see the whole video yet, just kinda skimmed through the game over segment due to that scene living in my mind for a while
When I played and finished this game I wasn t happy.Dunno why because everyone says that this game is a masterpiece and all of the other mario games I played on my switch I really liked
Of course, you can spend all your money before leaving that screen, and the Bandit won't have anything to steal. I don't know about the remake yet, but the Gamecube version just skips the line of dialogue about him stealing half your coins if you do that. (But now, after learning that you can get your coins back if you track him down, I wonder if that Bandit has special dialogue for that eventuality.)
I forgot you could even do that, how funny. I'll have to test it out on a new save file! Maybe that's why Goombella no longer specifically mentions the Bandit stealing half your coins in the remake? She just talks about how the guy rudely bumped into you, so I wouldn't be surprised if the dialogue just stays the same and the coin counter doesn't go down
The darkest aspect is how the developers somehow chose to remove an entire race, Russian, from a civilization of Bob-Ombs. Removed my favorite text gag in the game.
Bro the “swallowed by the floor one” is so unnerving, like what does “endless darkness” mean? Are they pulled into some dark dimension? Do they literally just get stuck inside the floor and suffocate? Are they wiped out of existence?
It's so true, I should've spent a bit more time talking about it! I imagine "endless darkness" as an eternal black void (similar to space, but with no stars or planets, just...nothing), which is terrifying. I think out of all those options, suffocating is the merciful one 😭
Isn't it awesome? I love that what initially seems to be just a recurring gag has deeper meaning to it...a lot of thought was put into the worldbuilding of this game
@@daniellejackson6543 it was in the original too! They did add an original song for the remake when the character (Grifty) tells these stories though which is cool
The remake is really good I wish they didn't remove the sfx and make the text so slow, and spoilers: they didn't buff vivian, bobbery and ms.mowz, they didn't fix the backtracking in chapter 8 (if you get screwed over you still have to walk all the way back even though they could've made the fast travel pipe available before the postgame). The trouble center wasn't fixed, i wouldn't have minded a boss rush mode and i think there should've been more then 2 new badges. but those are my only real complaints, people for some reason try to act like the new ost is bad but I don't see it the vast majority of songs are just as good if not better not. Apparently the nostalgia badge doesn't always work though and that's pretty dumb.
I agree with your points--I really miss the crowd sfx. Where's the boos when you miss an action command, and the high-pitched scream when you smack away a showgoer who's about to throw something at Mario? I don't mind the slow text speed as much as others, but it's unfortunate that it will negatively effect replays. I love the remake in general, and think it is still a significant upgrade over the original (the presentation is unmatched, especially when comparing the animations + dynamic lighting). I had the Nostalgia Badge off for most of the game...as good as the GameCube OST was, I personally prefer most of the updated tracks (and even some I was iffy about before, like the new Glitzville theme, is growing on me). I'm not entirely sure, but the Nostalgia Badge should always work? It doesn't alter the Switch exclusive songs in any way, so I wonder if people are getting confused
@@ThaneGaming apparently there's times where new music plays regardless with the nostalgia badge and some people are salty it doesn't bring back the old sfx. I love most of the new music too, don't understand why they made the dialogue slower though (it personally didn't bother me but it's still dumb). They didn't fix the backtracking in chapter 8 if you get screwed you still have to walk all they way back (they could've made the fast travel pipe available before the postgame). The trouble center wasn't fixed and I feel like characters like bobbery vivan and ms.mowz could've been buffed. On top of the fact that there could've been more new bosses maybe a boss rematch system like in mario and luigi bowsers inside story and dream team. I also think there should've been more then just 2 new badges. To be clear this is still a really good remake but they could've done even more, i doesn't bother me a huge amount but there are remakes like mario rpg that are still better because of that imo.
You're probably right--I'm not sure how well a "Light Aspects" would go over though haha (I've thought about doing that on April Fools' Day for an M-rated horror game)
On the topic of the old four heroes, did the Toad had the seventh crystal star(which I’m gonna refer to as the Opal Star) before he gave it away to a merchant?
That's a good question. We know that the resting place of the four heroes are in Rogueport, Hooktail Castle, Twilight Trail, and the Pirate's Grotto. The boo heroine is inside the Twilight Trail chest, and the Koopa inside of Pirate's Grotto. They had the Ruby and Sapphire Stars respectively. The Goomba heroine placed the Emerald Star in Boggly Woods, but that couldn't have been the last one she hid as there's no black chest there. So it's unclear which star was the last for the Goomba and Toad. The Hooktail Castle star is the Diamond Star, and Rogueport's is the Crystal Star (yes, one of the Crystal Stars is "the Crystal Star" lol...should've been Opal like you called it). It'd make sense to me for the Goomba to have wound up in Hooktail Castle with the Diamond Star and for the Toad to have collapsed in Rogueport, but whether the Crystal Star was the last one he was holding is up in the air. It could have been the Crystal, Gold, or Garnet Star, since the Toad hero asked the wandering healer to hide it "in a secret place known to no one…" You could argue that the real Garnet Star is the most hidden of the lot, but we don't actually know how well the Crystal Star was obscured as it's never explained where Grodus finds it, just that it was in Rogueport. TLDR; I personally like to think that the Toad was holding the seventh Crystal Star, but it could've been Gold or Garnet.
I highly recommend it! The presentation is head and shoulders above the original, especially when comparing the character animations & dynamic lighting. I also personally really love the new & remixed OST. There are a couple of things I miss, like the old audience sfx and the snappier menu navigation in battle, but next time I replay the game it'll be this version. It's a beautiful reimagining of an already wonderful game
I'm glad i can finally experience this game because i didn't play it when i was younger. I am just about to start chapter 6... and i'm already almost 36 hours into the game. Maybe im just bad, but there's so much stuff to do and im genuinely surprised the game is so good. Obviously I've heard this game is a masterpiece years ago but i didn't want to look at a walkthrough because i held out hope i could play it myself someday and now i can. The story is really good, the characters are fantastic, and the writing is actually funny (compared to recent Paper Mario games), and the game actually takes itself seriously which is a refreshing change compared to the other Paper Mario's (*cough* Origami King *cough*). I love this game to bits and i hope this is a return to form for Paper Mario going forward
Oh wow, that's funny we had such similar times! I recorded everything as well, I'll have to check again but I believe the folder's a little over 200GB for me, because I went back to record cutscenes with different characters
Is this ever mentioned in-game? As far as I'm aware, there's nothing mentioning how the dragons came to be, just that they're the Queen's pets. I do wonder if Bonetail's body perished at a certain point though, or if she was always an undead skeleton...
In the English version if you talk to Grifty he mentions how the dark demon created the dragons, I’d imagine she used dark magic, Because you’re right like the second you go to bone tail bone tail’s already dead it should not be alive but because of the dark magic it’s still alive and aware of everything around it and that it’s just scary to think about. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was already dead technically, because I feel with even hooktail and gloomtail they’re immune to aging however they can still be defeated and because they don’t technically have souls that’s why after you defeat them they vanish, they’re just Embodiments of dark magic.
@@OmegaVideoGameGod In both the English GameCube version & on Switch, Grifty only says this about the dragons: "Yea, and the demon also had three dragon pets: Hooktail, Gloomtail, and Bonetail. These dragons flew across the land, spreading fear and sorrow over all." GameCube: "Even now, the mere mention of a dragon is enough to give some the terrors…" Switch: "The dragons' remains have never been found, and even now, some nervously wonder if they still live..." Nothing about how they came to be, sadly. I do like the idea of her creating them though, and if she did they would indeed be beings of dark magic!
Looking back, I think it makes perfect sense though after how she created her palace and filled it monsters I definitely am convinced shes using magic we just don’t see it, but bonetail being alive even though it should be dead, yeah it’s definitely gotta be some kind of black magic which is very scary
I’ve been enjoying my time playing through the TTYD remake. It’s my first exposure to the game and I can see why so many like it. Although I’m not sure if I would consider it my favorite Paper Mario game. The worlds being fairly linear leave some things to be desired. And the backtracking at times can be tedious. Especially in Chapter 4. I prefer the more open design of the Origami King. And I didn’t actually hate the combat in the Origami King either. Aside from those criticisms, I do like TTYD now that I’ve had a chance to play it. And it’s definitely up there with The Origami King in my opinion. If we could get a game in the future with the open design of TOK, the combat of TTYD, and the writing style of both games combined; I think it would make for a really good game.
16:41 is that in the orginal too? Can anyone confirm that? I never knew that was in the game. Damn this game was already disturbing enough especially being an 11 year old kid lol
That game over is in the original, but the black hole that opens up is exclusive to the Switch remake. On GameCube, the Dry Bones similarly push them to the middle of the room but they just sort of fall into the floor!
It was part of the first round of NSO icons for TTYD, they switch out every week or so. Looks like the last set is coming out today! They do reissue older icons occasionally, but it's rare
So watching the video it looks like you missed it or will talk about it in a future video spoilers: but the flirting goombas from the original ttyd were censored so as to not offend people which is unfortunate, some hooktail lines were removed and the far far outpost bombombs no longer say da. There's 2 new bosss and a new badge for 100% that changes mario's look
Towards the end of the video I did mention that one line about people paying "good money to do this" getting removed, but the localizers hilariously added one specifying the trick Koopley fell for... I will likely add the catcalling Goombas in a future episode so thanks for the reminder! While there are major spoilers in this video, I wanted to save the remake exclusive bosses for later to give people a chance to experience them, so I'll talk about them in the finale (I'll probably be putting out 3 more videos on the topic, the next one will exclusively be covering Glitzville)!
@@ThaneGaming no yeah i meant to clarify that you're probably doing that later literally just edited the comment spoilers: I guess it is different though cus wacka isn't implied to die in the remake like in the original, is that censorship though?
@@nascour5991 Yes, I was thinking about that too! SPOILERS: I absolutely love that Intelligent Systems made him a special boss, but it does kind of nullify the point of his character (are you willing to farm this amazing healing item at the expense of a poor creature's wellbeing?) The fact that the Whacka at the bottom of the Pit (which is likely different from the one on Keelhaul Key) considers being hit "playing"--and it summons objects to hit itself--makes me wonder about the other ones going "extinct" when it was pretty clear-cut before... Even so, there is still the fact that the other Whackas don't want to be hit, and the player has the immoral choice to do it anyway.

the wack part about the extremely rare Dark Bone's game over in the Palace of Shadows is apparently,
you have to get into a really specific spot among the mass of Dry Bones, moving the stick so you're in the exact right spot of the Dark hole, so the Dark Hole can drag Mario+Partner under.
cuz otherwise it surprisingly makes Mario automatically Jump out if you do it wrong.
its interestingly Tricky for a game-over, you have to work for it. 🤔
Ghost T also has an interesting change from the original regarding the Diary.
specifically, if you read it in front of him in the original, he would reappear instantly while right in front of you.
but in the remake when reading it in front of him, because it causes the screen to go black and white, Ghost T actually temporarily pops outta exstence.
then spooks you at the end of it-
The Dark Bones game over (at least in the remake) can be triggered simply by letting go of the control stick entirely--after the dialogue box Mario will automatically be pulled towards it and the darkness portal opens up in the floor.
I love watching people talk about dark topics in kids games. I seriously love these kinds of videos
It's just so fascinating to me, for some reason. I think it's because the developers have limitations as to how far they can go; there's a certain beauty to subtlety and it's fun to talk about the surprising things the writers can get away with, as opposed to something that's overtly adult
I wished the black chest spirits had subtle altered designs based on their species, while making the first one be the one we're used to lol
I was really surprised when the toad family actually had a developing story over the course of the game, i thought they would just be one off joke characters
One thing I found interesting is that Hooktail's Castle resembles her, at least on the outside. Not really dark but interesting.
I can kind of see it if you like at the outside sprite of her castle, like the three "horns" standing in for the three towers! That is pretty interesting, I never noticed it before
This isn't super relevant, but in the Japanese version the Goomba of the Four Heroes is actually referred to as he/him rather than she/her- I'm assuming the ENG version changed this to be more equal 🤔 But reflecting this, only the box containing the Boo has a more high-pitched voice in the remake (but they do all have slightly different voices!)
I also always felt the way the Toad was described as being barely able to talk (that's the phrasing from the German loc at least) might suggest he was a quote unquote silent protagonist like Mario, haha
I thought the threat was that if Mario WENT FURTHER then he’d get attacked… so that’s pretty true to his word
He says "You will go no farther, and from this moment on...you'll be nothing but bones!" Which reads to me as "I'm stopping you here, and now I will kill you", rather than him warning about Mario becoming bones if he goes deeper into the castle.
okay i was gonna watch this but i got a few minutes in and the retelling of the story really gripped me and i want to experience it for myself first
this is the first time "go and play the game before watching" has actually worked on me. so. um. great game. amazing game even. 10/10.

@@ThaneGaming I've actually been playing it for a day or two now - I just finished the punies part.
In tac lol
0:40 new game over: mario hangs himself like that one bootleg lion king game.
Yknow, and maybe spoilers but...
I wonder why characters that are implied dead or permanently disfigured appear in the credits completely fine (until they get attacked again)
Like, I can buy that we simply put Hooktail in a coma or something, but Grodus is a different story. If they can make him a body for the credits, why does he remain a head after them?
Hmm...maybe what we see as the credits is the curtain call for the "Paper Mario" play written by the Toad in Rogueport? I'm not sure otherwise 😅 SPOILERS:
I honestly think the whole Grodus being just a head after clearing the game is funny but kinda lame, because it showed the Shadow Queen striking him with lightning as a head and he dissappeared...it's like the developers didn't want to commit to him dying
Man, I must have forgotten the stories about the cursed chests being the ancient heroes..
Christmas came early this year 🎅 🎅 🎅
This reminds me that TTYD has a reference to Santa Claus 😅 a bandit on the east side of Rogueport talks about a guy jumping from roof to roof and going down chimneys (in chapter 5 IIRC, as a hint for how to reach Bobbery)
Pretty sure Beldam was playing grodus the whole time tbh
That does put a lot of those earlier scenes into perspective. I wonder if she really did let Peach get away with the map on purpose? Beldam wanted her to be a vessel for the Shadow Queen's from the start, so maybe she figured the X-Nauts would capture her regardless, and didn't want Grodus to have the map? If that's the case, she would've had to have known that Peach would send it to Mario (and that he'd be able to collect all the Crystal Stars)...
(I don’t feel like deleting the comment cause I liked talking about this one in particular but thank you thane for clarifying it was talked about)
One other non traditional game over that wasn’t talked about (at least I assume I haven’t seen the whole video yet) was the one with the dark bones room where you actually get dragged into darkness if you don’t get the dry bones off of you, it’s really been bothering me recently especially since your party member out basically just says “we’re done for or we’re finished” or whatever family friendly way to say we’re dead and yells in terror, that has been making me feel very uneasy ever since I saw it
For my peace of mind I’m going to imagine that this “endless darkness” is like where Vivian and the other shadows can traverse to, especially cause of the shadowy effect in the remake, and Vivian can kind of bring everyone back out.
She just talks about how the guy rudely bumped into you, so I wouldn't be surprised if the dialogue just stays the same and the coin counter doesn't go down
There is dialogue if you didn't have coins. I think he's gobsmacked you're walking around with empty pockets
@@animeproductionsltd.5102 that's awesome, I'll definitely check it now. Thanks for letting me know! I love this game

@@ThaneGaming I’ve never played TTYD prior to the remake, so it’s cool hearing about the tidbits I’d have never known about otherwise :)
The darkest aspect is how the developers somehow chose to remove an entire race, Russian, from a civilization of Bob-Ombs.
Removed my favorite text gag in the game.
Al Palmone made me laugh out loud, that's fucking amazing
Bro the “swallowed by the floor one” is so unnerving, like what does “endless darkness” mean? Are they pulled into some dark dimension? Do they literally just get stuck inside the floor and suffocate? Are they wiped out of existence?
It's so true, I should've spent a bit more time talking about it! I imagine "endless darkness" as an eternal black void (similar to space, but with no stars or planets, just...nothing), which is terrifying. I think out of all those options, suffocating is the merciful one 😭
Sounds like a Corpse Party Bad End.
5:20 I didn't know there was lore for the curse box guy?
Isn't it awesome? I love that what initially seems to be just a recurring gag has deeper meaning to it...a lot of thought was put into the worldbuilding of this game
@@ThaneGaming Wait is it specifically from the remake?
@@daniellejackson6543 it was in the original too! They did add an original song for the remake when the character (Grifty) tells these stories though which is cool

@@daniellejackson6543 I have! It's on my list, I want to try playing more indie games
The remake is really good I wish they didn't remove the sfx and make the text so slow, and spoilers:
they didn't buff vivian, bobbery and ms.mowz, they didn't fix the backtracking in chapter 8 (if you get screwed over you still have to walk all the way back even though they could've made the fast travel pipe available before the postgame).
Do a ranking of all of the different “Don Pianta” names
It truly would be easier to say what in this game isn't dark
It could have been the Crystal, Gold, or Garnet Star, since the Toad hero asked the wandering healer to hide it "in a secret place known to no one…"
You could argue that the real Garnet Star is the most hidden of the lot, but we don't actually know how well the Crystal Star was obscured as it's never explained where Grodus finds it, just that it was in Rogueport.
TLDR; I personally like to think that the Toad was holding the seventh Crystal Star, but it could've been Gold or Garnet.
"the dead shadow queen lays dreaming"
Okay C'thulhu
Thank you for giving me a good reason to buy the remake 😂👍
I highly recommend it! The presentation is head and shoulders above the original, especially when comparing the character animations & dynamic lighting. I also personally really love the new & remixed OST. There are a couple of things I miss, like the old audience sfx and the snappier menu navigation in battle, but next time I replay the game it'll be this version. It's a beautiful reimagining of an already wonderful game
I wonder what they called the thousand year door before the year this story takes place?
The 999 year door?
Its called the thousand-year door not because its 1000 years old, but because the legends said that the seal would last for 1000 years
I'm glad i can finally experience this game because i didn't play it when i was younger.
I 100%’d TTYD too and it took me 55 hours and 54 minutes. I recorded it and the footage was 172 GB!
Oh wow, that's funny we had such similar times! I recorded everything as well, I'll have to check again but I believe the folder's a little over 200GB for me, because I went back to record cutscenes with different characters
The one I was always interested in was how hooktail gloomtail and bonetail are created through dark magic.
These dragons flew across the land, spreading fear and sorrow over all."
GameCube: "Even now, the mere mention of a dragon is enough to give some the terrors…"
Switch: "The dragons' remains have never been found, and even now, some nervously wonder if they still live..."
Nothing about how they came to be, sadly.
Also Thane great channel glad I found it and subscribed. :)
If we could get a game in the future with the open design of TOK, the combat of TTYD, and the writing style of both games combined; I think it would make for a really good game.
same! when hooktail offered the special badge i said yes too as a kid

How do you even get the Rogueport background
It was part of the first round of NSO icons for TTYD, they switch out every week or so. Looks like the last set is coming out today! They do reissue older icons occasionally, but it's rare
Miyamoto should have given Flurrie a dress
So watching the video it looks like you missed it or will talk about it in a future video spoilers:
but the flirting goombas from the original ttyd were censored so as to not offend people which is unfortunate, some hooktail lines were removed and the far far outpost bombombs no longer say da.
@@ThaneGaming no yeah i meant to clarify that you're probably doing that later literally just edited the comment spoilers:
I guess it is different though cus wacka isn't implied to die in the remake like in the original, is that censorship though?
@@nascour5991 Yes, I was thinking about that too! SPOILERS:
I absolutely love that Intelligent Systems made him a special boss, but it does kind of nullify the point of his character (are you willing to farm this amazing healing item at the expense of a poor creature's wellbeing?)
The fact that the Whacka at the bottom of the Pit (which is likely different from the one on Keelhaul Key) considers being hit "playing"--and it summons objects to hit itself--makes me wonder about the other ones going "extinct" when it was pretty clear-cut before...
Even so, there is still the fact that the other Whackas don't want to be hit, and the player has the immoral choice to do it anyway.
So for the 2 new bosses will you cover them at the last part or when you could potentially fight them at the earliest ?
Good question, I think what I'm going to do is talk about a certain new boss at the end of the next episode (covering chapter 3), and give another warning when that spoiler is coming. Then I'll probably discuss the other in part 3!
