This song changed the sound of RnB💯 After Aaliyah moved on from R Kelly, she was being blackballed in the industry so it was hard for her to work with producers. She heard a demo by Timb & Missy called "Sugar & Spice" that made her want to work with them. She didn't like the lyrics of the song but she loved their sound. She chose to work with them even though her record label didn't think she should have... and the rest is multi platinum history. This song and album catapulted all 3 of their careers. Whitney even deemed herself an Aaliyah and Missy fan after this album came out & you can find a clip of Mariah at a record store buying the whole shelf of this album😂💪🏾 The guy on the motorbike is Michael Jackson's nephew. And the guy walking around, with her named tatted is Ginuwine. Keep the reactions coming, bro! So many gems in her catelog.

Omg I was 17 years old (her age) when this album came out and boy did I play the heck out of it in my car! The bass hits sooo hard! I was so so sad when she died. She was only 3 weeks older than I am. 👍🏼👌🏼💕

Her vocal delivery was effortless just like her dance moves. Alot of today's musicians still emulate her style but cannot capture her uniqueness. One of the best RnB all round artists to ever do it. ❤Aaliyah

Aaliyah and Selena would have both made so much more great music. They were taken in their absolute prime.

This song actually inspired the sound of babydoll on Mariah’s butterfly album which timberland produced and missy co wrote with Mariah.

This song, and album, changed the course of not just R&B but pop radio in general after this was released. Aaliyah took a chance on Timbaland and Missy. They were virtual unknowns before this. After this, though, EVERYONE wanted to work with them. And if they didn’t, they still told their producers to “give me the Aaliyah sound”.
Another fun fact: The director decided to incorporate and use this set, which was the same set used for the movie 12 Monkeys. This is why it has a sort of sci-fi, dystopian vibe to it.
Another fun fact: The man featured here, with the “Aaliyah” tattoo (not real) is…Ginuwine! In many videos during this era, you’ll see a lot of friends of Aaliyah/Tim/Missy in each other’s videos. 702 and Lil Kim were both in “If Your Girl Only Knew” (Lil Kim starred as the “Girl”) and “Hot Like Fire” (along with Ginuwine, Static, etc). Aaliyah was in Lil Kim’s “Crush On You” video, as well as in a few of Timbs’ as well as “Make it Hot” by Nicole Wray.

Classic track from Aayliah. It is interesting you mentioned elements of Drum n Bass because Timbaland did say he was heavy influenced by Drum and during the time.

This album changed the sound of modern r&b! This album catapulted Aaliyah, Timbaland, and Missy Elliott's careers. This was a completely different sound especially in the late 90s and it influenced multiple different music genres (r&b, hip hop, pop). Aaliyah's style also has influenced fashion and music videos as well. One In A Million has been sampled at least twice in the last 10 years. React to Wildside by Normani ft Cardio B and Million by Tink...both sample this song. Aaliyah was a beautiful and creative soul gone too soon but at least we still have music and movies to remember her by. Keep the reactions coming.

They also filmed a remix video to this the same day (a remix that was done on their terms, featuring Ginuwine who was also in this video). The set is recycled from the movie 12 Monkeys.

    • @rayeeiffel480

no she didn’t that was a rumor. Aaliyah said herself that her eye was fine and showed her eye all the time. Her mom got the look from an old actress who wore a curly bang over her eye so Aaliyah did the same but did a smooth swoop over the eye for style and she thought it was cool 🤣
