The QUEEN of Urban Pop. Timbaland (producer), Static Major (writer), & Aaliyah (vocalist) made this song in just FOUR hours🤯 From 4am & had to be turned in by 8 am. They had just finished a show and had to record this at the last minute. Turned out to be one of her biggest hits, one of the most played videos on MTV in 1998, and her 1st Grammy nomination. Static Major wrote this song about he & Aaliyah's private relationship that they never went public about
Where did you hear that this was about them? I’ve never heard even rumours that they were an item, let alone talk about it out in the open. I highly doubt they ever dated. Also, it was more than 4 hours. The deadline, according to Timbaland, was 11am. But yes, this was done from SCRATCH overnight. Aaliyah went from doing a show to the studio sometime in the evening. Their deadline was 11am the next morning. The beat/music, vocals, production, mixing, and mastering was all done in 1 night.
@@JessieDubois8 The OG source of the video is private but found it here. Timbaland says it was made from 4-8 & was being played on radio later that same morning @3:30 ruclips.net/video/O5rw3cDu8xw/видео.html 👍🏾 and Static's mom revealed, in 2008, to Vibe they dated.
In the current day, this is her MOST popular/well known song. This song was EVERYWHERE in ‘98. Her label made the mistake of only releasing this song to the radio and not releasing a physical copy. The charts here in the USA, at the time, only counted physical copies towards a ranking. It only changed to include radio-only singles towards the end of its run. Otherwise, this would have been Aaliyah’s first #1, easily. And I agree, this song was SO ahead of its time and so different than what was out on the radio at the time. Aaliyah’s creative genius was, in part, picking what she wanted to work on. This song challenged any singer because of the stop-start music and its weird idiosyncrasies. But Aaliyah more than met the challenge, and they produced this amazing song from it. This was what made Timbaland and Aaliyah such an incredible musical pairing. They pulled stuff out of each other that neither had with anyone else. Timbaland said that when Aaliyah died, he lost half of his creativity too.
oh! And Timbaland is beatboxing in the background! (or whatever those noises he’s doing with his mouth is called). He makes it sound like castanets, which explains the Flamenco number at the end.
@@JessieDubois8- Yeah. Her record label was a startup for Aaliyah by uncle. They should’ve promoted more boldly. But this song did reach #1 on a billboard chart. *R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay* chart says it was top of the list for 8 consecutive weeks. *Hot 100 Recurrent* says it topped their list again in 1999.
Did an Aaliyah search on your channel (really looking for More than a woman, Try again and If your girl only knew) and found this one. Absolutely a huge favourite of mine and it still holds up today. Her music after deciding to work with Missy and Timbaland is magic. She would have been 45 a couple of days ago. Just imagine what she could have done if she had the chance. Fortunately she left a lot of great music behind even though she was gone too soon.
Yes she’s oozes coolness! Don’t think to this day there’s ever been anyone so effortlessly cool. Light years ahead! It’s hard to choose but this is my favourite Aaliyah song the harmonies and the melody are so unique and the dancing is just unbelievable. She was only about 20/21 here how was this possible? Imagine if she was still here ❤
It’s called “The One I Gave My Heart To”. You posted the first line of the song, not the title lol. (I 2nd this, but the video version, NOT the album version).
If you like Timbaland production, check out anything off of the first three Missy Elliot albums: Sock It To Me, Beep Me 911, She’s a Bitch, 4 My People.
@@bridgethegapreactions that’s okay !! I know that’s how most people pronounce her name. I used to pronounce it the way you do, “uh-lee-yah” but then I saw interviews where she was explaining how to say it and stuff & I was shocked cause I had been saying her name wrong for a long time. 😭 no wonder it has 2 a’s.
she have ton of best song . this is the one more famous. she have no any bad song on list . I'm 97 born baby but I love her lot because I grow up around best music test people mom dad aunts unclesa all rich in music taste so me my cousin brother we all dance to this songs don't know a word but enjoy. now getting old and understanding how beautiful this song more then we thought. also we keep getting old and she still in her 20s still in 2023.rest in peace baby queen😢
I would love to see you react to Aaliyah - I Refuse.... It's one of her more vocal-y songs, and one of her latter tracks too. You can hear the growth for sure. Again, new subscriber... I really like your take on these reactions. Keep it up! Take care.
As far as the top 3 that I really would love a reaction to would be: 1) I Can Be 2) What If? 3) The One I Gave My Heart To (video version, not the album version) others: One In A Million, If Your Girl Only Knew, Miss You, Come Over (featuring Tank), I Care 4 U, Giving Up (the sparkle song, not “never giving up”) My top 3 favourite Aaliyah songs (so hard to choose!), however, are (excluding “We Need A Resolution which would easily be #2) : 1) It’s Whatever 2) One In A Million 3) Come Over (Featuring Tank)
1. I refuse 2. I care for you 3. I miss you By the time I found Aaliyah's music she had died but I bought all her albums she had a swag that I have never seen before or after and I love her voice she sounds like an angel to me.
Great reaction! You definitely have to check out More Than A Woman next. It was her most expensive music video if I remember correctly, showcases her utilizing her chest voice more and is an all around beautiful and confident song with an amazing instrumental as always.
This is Aaliyah? I remember being so irritated by how much this was on the radio and the damn baby coo in the background. But I look back with fondness. Early 00s R&B is a sweet spot. TLC, Unpretty, No Scrubs, Usher, Janet Jacksons I Get Lonely, Missy Elliott Supa Dupa Fly, Mariah Honey....
Try Again is my favorite song of her's. 😍🙌🏼STILL goes hard to this day, and the music video looks just as current and modern as today's music videos. Like, if that music video were put out today, it would fit and not look dated. Great sound and video.
With the exception of “At your best”, I think the stuff she did with the predator was so-so. What, to me, made her interesting was when she branched out both vocally and musically after they parted ways. “One In A Million” was when it started. She completely revamped her sound and her look. It left others scrambling to catch up.
Aaliyah became more Pop after One In A Million....she also became more ALIVE when she danced throughout her up temple videos like in More Than A Woman, Try Again and Are You That Somebody.

Rip both her and static
She was the princess of R&B. She was untouchable. I remember first hearing about her passing on MTV. So sad.

When this song came out....that baby noise was EVERYWHERE, so then Timb sampled it. Genius!
Aaliyah - 'Journey to the Past' from the Anastasia Movie is perfect

Aaliyah is the queen of r&b
My favorite are

Have you ever heard " I Care 4 U"? It's absolutely beautiful 😍
Aaliyah was known as Baby Girl so they decided to have a baby laughing in the background paying homage to her nick name given from those close to her.

Good call, I like a bit of Missy but don't know many

Good to know! I think I'm getting it slightly wrong but hopefully not too badly wrong

To me Aliyah was only beginning to become interesting at this point: this and Try Again are her best songs.
