You forgot to mention one thing. Sometimes, during career free roam, some patrolling cop cars end up going kamikaze, driving at top speed and even hitting traffic and other cop cars without even having their lights and sirens on. They may also total their car in the process. They won’t turn on you, either. They don’t even care if you are speeding as well. However, they sometimes hit you by mistake, which DOES start a pursuit as if they are on the receiving end of a hit and run, even though they caused the collision.

    • @pedrosilvaproductions
      @pedrosilvaproductions Год назад +29

The last part of hitting you and start a chase is basically the police in GTA games. You can kill people np. But you nudge that Police car... Oh boy its over. And many times they go after you after THEY hit YOU

@@pedrosilvaproductions Not quite. Even in GTA, they never go all out speeding while patrolling without their lights on. Even if they are over the limit, the ones in this game are WAY faster. Sometimes they accelerate even quicker than the Porsche 911 GT2 interceptors normally can. And they exceed the top speed of most cars. Seriously, I’m talkin bout 200 MPH in the marked and unmarked civic cruisers. 200+ MPH CROWN VICS. In fact, sometimes they even appear during a pursuit and they still just speed by without their lights on and still IGNORE you! It’s like they’ve gone *ROUGE!*

Not exactly the early 2000s, but PS1 ports could be wildly different than the PC version during the end of the PS1's lifespan. For example, the PS1 version of Need for Speed 4 had fewer tracks and a cut-down career mode, and the PS1 version of Need For Speed 5 was an entirely different game, and by that I mean not a single track was the same, career mode was different, quick race modes were different, music was different, only some cars were shared. Funny thing is the PS1 version had better handling.

@@BlooTeg Imagine trying to fit a game made for the Xbox 360's 512MB of unified memory to the PS2's 32MB main memory (plus 4MB video memory), and having to deal with the PS2's "emotion engine" running at a blazing speed of 300MHz at the same time. It's easier to have a B-team produce an entirely separate game or license some no-name game and dress it up as a Harry Potter game. Don't know which route they took however.

    • @tannenfreund87
      @tannenfreund87 Год назад

@@user-yg4kj2mf1p Yes, these two nfs games are a good example. But it gets more complicated. Nfs HS was basically a EA Canada product, and the PS version was the original as developed by EA Canada. EA Seattle, the original developers of the nfs series, ported it to the PC. But they didn't use the graphically more advanced engine from EA Canada's NFS HS, but a improved version of their own NFS 3 engine (which served nfs 2 and tnfs before. Which made more sense, looking at the average specs of a PC that day, NFS HS still supported software rendering.
So when EA Seattle ported HS to the PC they included all the tracks of 3 and an enhanced career mode. At some point HS was also just planned as an add-on for 3, but EA figured out, it would earn more, selling it as stand alone.
NFS Porsche for PC was then solely developed by EA Canada, as EA Seattle was busy with motor city online. MCO then used a modified PC NFS HS engine, NFS Porsche the PS NFS HS engine, ported to PC. If you play NFS HS on PS and then Porsche on PC, you'll notice the graphical effects and the handling of the cars is quite similar.
Also, apparently the handling of the Porsches was too realistic for an NFS game, they increased the size of the tracks and played with the FOV, to make the handling more bearable, especially with a keyboard.

This game's PC version is better than many other NFS titles. there is wheel to wheel racing which many other NFS dont offer. you overtake all your opponents at the very beginning and it turns into a checkpoint chase. Cop chases are difficult unlike many modern titles such as payback. the map acts as a good racing map with sharp and twisty turns. great number of cars to choose from especially at the time of release and could've had one of the best story if most of it's elements weren't deleted making it. And the difficult handling can be put to great use with an aggressive driving style. And apart from sunset hills with the yellow filter, Tri city bay and the mountainous areas look decent and provide fun races.

The Wii version of this game is one of my biggest guilty pleasures. The audio-visual differences in the PS2 version are pretty disgusting, I don't know how they messed that up when the two versions are otherwise identical.
I know exactly why the game is bad. I have my own problems with the game that aren't even mentioned in this video. For some reason, my broken brain still loves it simply because I played it all the time as a kid with the laggy motion controls.
And the glitches? Sometimes they can be really funny or interesting to me. I vividly remember turning around during the first mission of the game, flipping my car on an elevated area of grass, and then suddenly being launched at over 250 MPH backwards. I scrapped a Dodge Challenger, and the black stripes from that car replaced the stripes of my Shelby. Then, the game crashed when I tried to customize it.
Another example is when you start a pursuit during a highway battle event. The cops will be able to use nitrous, and for literally no reason at all, can go upwards of 400 MPH, and start flying all over the place at random. It's pure chaos, especially when the Porsches start to appear.
Overall, the game is just dumb fun sometimes. Everytime you play, you never know what whacky shit might happen next. I'm actually about to play it when I'm done writing this.

My best guess (based solely on speculation and no actual facts or evidence,) is that the device that is presented with absolutely NO CONTEXT or clues during the ending was supposed to be elaborated on more in NFS Most Wanted (the 2012 version) before the original story got junked. I don't remember enough to know if there was any reference to Most Wanted or Carbon in undercover, and whether it was possible for those two stories to combine, but if there was going to be anything that told us what the device was used for, it would have more than likely been there. (Or it might have explained it during the story of undercover, its been a minute and I don't remember much from it.)

It's crazy how many people don't know about this version of the game. PS2 slim was the only console I ever had and prior to playing this game I played underground 2 and carbon but not most wanted so I didn't know they just did a twist on a map of a previous game. I only realized it was mw map when I started playing nfs world (oh how I miss that game) which had mw and carbon map merged together. I always thought it was merged with undercover but everyone was saying it was mw and then I realised it was copied.
Back when I was younger this game was fun but it always felt weird, out of place, unpolished or unfinished. Now I know why. I don't think the devs didn't care about this game because they just didn't have enough time to make a good game.

The game is pretty much Carbon internally, including cut content still being present, and the whole menus like you said. So much so you can grab the soundtrack files from this and use on Carbon, as Speedy showcased.
The soundtrack has nothing from Pro Street, it's all exclusive to Undercover, and PS2/Wii versions have a few exclusives themselves, although all those instrumental versions are fillers.
The lag caused by editing vinyls and car parts in general is not exclusive to this game. It happens in all platforms but some fare better, and it started in Carbon. On Pro Street, entering a race day and quitting back to the menu somehow speeds up the sliders and vinyl movement speed, makes it a bit inaccurate but any help is appreciated.
And yes this game has severe performance issues, many aren't present on Wii version though. Want a tip? Disable the HUD, especially the rearview mirror. It applies to every game as far back as TNFS on PS1, yes really. In most games when you disable the HUD and the map location as well as traffic/opponent conditions apply, you can reach a locked 60FPS.

I wish we could get more old school style NFS games, but everyone nowadays just wants customization and a goofy story with hyper and super cars......I miss the old games with more regular street cars that the average person could afford. The nice atmosphere of the game (I always enjoyed the legal street race atmosphere), the fun AF and bonkers speed race mode, simpler and honestly more engaging story. ProStreet also reminds me somewhat of Porsche Unleashed which also tried to be more realistic (even moreso with that game). In prostreets defense, it wasmt supposed to exist, undercover ("the chase" as it was codenamed) was supposed to be a two year development, but ea was pissy about that and forced the dev team to split in half and made half of them make a game for that fiscal year (prostreet) which they did... with like 12 people... from scratch... over the course of like 6 months...

About 20 people from the start I think, but over time the number increased.
Back in the day, I felt like I was the only one who actually liked the idea of progress from streets to circuits.
I loved those videos they made specifically as an explanation of why they weren't following the old formula.
They were connected closely with the car culture back then, only fools raced on the streets and they knew it well, so they created a vision of what could have been.
(I reccomend to watch Birth of Need For Speed ProStreet)
The new physics engine which was developed specifically for Prostreet, was made by real data collected from Porsche test track in Germany it aimed to make the handling more challanging, it was not sim-racing grade but the most advanced in the whole franchise, it also added impressive damage system and it had some great tunes too.
The amount done to make the game was astonishing and it was a heartbreaker to know it was treated by critics as unwanted garbage.
Never forget the speed races, those were fucking terrifying.

I noticed a lot of oddities playing this on the Wii. (PS2 and Wii versions are basically identical) and there's straight up visible buildings floating in the air in one part of the map, overlapping already existing buildings. I shit you not. I also noticed a TON of fences around the map aren't transparent, so most of the stuff they surprisingly put the time to add behind inaccessible areas will never get seen. Lots of weird texture issues too, like I saw this crane holding a shipping container, and for whatever reason, the textures meant to represent the doors were on the sides of the container, as well as just part of the crane texture taking up half the container too. Lots of assets ripped from Underground all the way to Carbon, which look really weird. You get a lot of disproportionate props. A couple traffic cars are recycled from Most Wanted/Carbon and oddly enough, Burnout Paradise. It's a freakin' fever dream to play this, but in a weird way, I love this ridiculous adaptation of Undercover.

I played Undercover a ton on my PS3. I honestly miss it. Undercover and The Run are my favorite story based NFS games. I personally have never played the PS2 version of this or Carbon, but based on this video there are definitely a lot of differences.

But yeah, it's apparently completely different

Sadly Black Box were being overworked and at times had less than a year to make a new NFS. Horrible. There's so much lost content and features that people found years later in betas, demos and concepts that leaked.

PCSX2 for PS2, Dolphin for the Wii
You might wanna get PCSX2 nightly by the way, some games refuse to run in the other version
