I think Ghost Games really had an uphill battle when it came to taking over from Black Box. They stumbled with 2015 (I hate the fact that it was - and still is - always online and there were some technical issues at launch) and they crashed and burned with Payback, but they got back up and redeemed themselves with Heat. I think, had EA not taken them out back to join Black Box, Visceral Games and Pandemic Studios, they really could have done something great. I am happy with Criterion at the helm but honestly EA needs to stop handing NFS over from developer to developer and let them work their magic instead of what they have done with the IP since the early 2010s.

I think the funniest thing about when I played this for the first time, I played it right when they were introducing the abandoned cars that you would find in free roam. They’re like the bait crates you find in the world as random police chases. Get the car, escape the police and you keep the car. First car I got was an RX7 and I used that as my main race car and upgraded it to the max rating. I was out running supercars with a ‘90s tuner car and ended up beating the game with it. I don’t really hate this one like most people. Had my fun with it but see its issues.
I liked the game only because of the progression. The progression of beating bosses one by one by racing their crews first, added with a considerable increase on difficulty by each chapter just make the final race feels super worth it, knowing how much you've done just to reach that level. Though the story were a bit ridiculous, and the offroad events feels unnecessary, it's a great game, just not worthy to have a "need for speed" as a title.

Dude Payback being called NFS Casino Edition is literally spot on Also like you said: Fortune Valley is based on Las Vegas (which we know as the land of casinos)
This game had a good variety of events and funnily enough, the best story in the franchise. But man did they mess everything else up hard. Unbound still doesn't have drag racing, so in a way, this game has more content than unbound.
Except the upgrade system (which was fixed in united mod) payback is one of my favorites. The story was great, the missions were creative, soundtrack SLAPED and, graphics were ok and tuning was fine. Also handling model was much better than 2015. Also there were some things to do after story. I still miss the car hijacking missions.
I loved payback, my only big problem with it was how driving long distances kinda felt like a chore. In heat, if I need to get from one side of the map to another, I’ll gladly drive there, but in payback, I usually just fast travel
I think the handling plays a big part in that. Especially driving to off-road events or challenging the roaming off-road racers. Honestly though, Fortune Valley, IMO, is one of the best open world maps ever put in an NFS game.
one of my biggest gripes about this game is the respawns. you respawn when you dont need to be respawned and lose time, or you dont get respawned when you need to be respawned and just better off restarting the race
i don't think it was that bad in my opinion, the graphics were good, the storyline was a good, for me the parts that rlly pissed me off were the gambling system for performance parts and how the police system worked. but all in all for me, it was a rlly fun game to play.
I remember a 16/17 year old me being incredibly hyped for this game to release. Pre-ordered the deluxe edition even. I was a tadbit sad however when the game finally came out and didn't completely live up to expectations. Don't get me wrong, I still played the shit out of it and really enjoyed myself while I was at it but I just couldn't ignore that this game was pretty lacking in delivering what most fans wanted and I could never really shake the disappointment of paying €80,- for this game with it being like it is. When I'll build a new rig I'm absolutely going to revisit this though. Had a lot of fun playing this and even more in the photo mode!
Idk about you guys but I loved the fact that they put roaming racers in the game. It makes it feel less empty and it’s a fun little thing to do when your bored. It’s nothing crazy but it’s enough to give you something to do for fun
This is one aspect that’s overlooked. I think it’s an overall improvement from Underground 2’s Outrun system in Free Roam. The Outruns were really fun and the varying landscape of Fortune Valley makes for very interesting races.
The collector acctually appears in heat...like not phisically. He is the one who gives you the DB11 at LVL10 and the P1 at 20. He only speaks to you at the cell phone. That was a nice eastter egg. There are a lot in payback too.
NFS payback feel like they're trying to replica NFS The Run with over the top action scene but location is meh, unlike the Run where location change as you progress through the game Payback location is just Sand and city
A good diversion from this would be to look at a *good* NFS game for a change That being Hot Pursuit (2010) Let's be honest, it's one of the last truly great NFS entries and for some reason people tend to overlook it Not as much as ProStreet, but still
Payback is the last nfs game I expected to admire in some aspects. From the continuous day and night cycle, free roaming racers you could challenge like in 2015, the twisty canyons and mountain roads in a big desert, replayable missions, and a pretty okay soundtrack! I'm glad you continue to speak your mind without letting triggered clowns bully you for having an opinion. Keep doing your thing Bluetag!
I found this game pretty enjoyable, the card system just kinda threw me off a bit though. Still managed to make decent cars though since my luck was kinda wack the first week I decided to try
You make a good point with the handling, It honestly baffles me how every ghost era need for speed gets it wrong, NOONE likes the drift or die system, I ended up quitting playing heat 4 hours in because of how annoying the drifting got.
IIRC The Crew did a slightly similar chance based upgrade system, but it did seem to bias on giving you actual upgrades, and didn't leave ya staring for hours at a slot machine. I thiiink it was worse in the sequel, but I didn't buy it.
Payback had a good story. The day/Night cycle looked good only in the city but in the desert the game looked.... dry. And i do play Unbound, only Online but i do play it.
Imo Unbound is the worst NFS game. Sure, Payback definitely has its flaws like lootboxes and does lack some qualities compared to the older games, but Unbound is just bad. They're trying to be diverse and inclusive, which is fine, but they've focused on being diverse so much it actually impacts the game in a negative way. Almost like the game is being too diverse, and it honestly doesn't even feel like a NFS game. At least Payback felt a bit more natural and loose unlike Unbound where the "diverseness" feels forced. Again, I do not have a problem with diversiveness in games, but it's too much in Unbound and I hope the next NFS game will be better.
There's only one thing I think you should have mentioned...this game is not for us Gamers or people who cares about It's for the NEW GENERATION who plays fortnite and FIFA, eats every year release like water. These people pays for it, likes it, wants to buy cards and stuff to differentiate themselves from others They will continue to push these kind of games, because people buy it, people buy the loot boxes
to be honest, i enjoyed playing this game. The story was alright didn't really care for it and i don't even have to mention the damn card system, but besides that, the handling was good if you wanted a chill experience, not having to care about breaking markes every once in a while is a nice way to relax, heat's handling is way better, except for drifting, but i really hate the map from heat and really like paybacks map. Overall it was a enjoyable game with some bad parts. Personally, the perfect ghost game would be a game with heat's "grip" handling, customization and graphics, payback's drift handling and 2015 "vibe" and map, maybe with payback's map as an expansion.
I guess Payback is a hit-or-miss title for the audience . I enjoyed NFSP because I was able to play with the latest cars (still ended up only using RX-7s and Challengers but we don’t talk about that) and having a shitty story didn’t do me wrong , actually I enjoyed Outlaw’s Rush and still replay it now-and-then
Yeah the game was a mess with the handling and the slot machine bs but As a burnout fan i fking loved this game slow-mo takedowns the only thing i hate the most was how big the map was and how it was always empty like dude even cop chases were scraped where's my heat system? And the multiplayer fking suck well speedlist we're good but the freeroam... MY GOD the freeroam was a fking wasted opportunity like you had an entire open world online system back in 2015 now put that on the open world of payback with 16 players kinda like heat did you can still play that game without a connection but if you do it online the night becomes a fking chaos because they're pursuits everywhere and that's fking awesome, payback could done something similar but they didn't and thats just fking sad thank good Heat was a good one because seriously after payback i though the franchise was dead.
I liked the game. Yeah, the handling in annoying, yes, the story is kinda cringe and predictable and god yes the card system pissed me off.. But imo - it was the last nfs game that, to me, felt like an actual nfs game, sure it has some over-the-top fast n furious inspiration, but it worked without drowning out the feel of the game. I enjoyed the races, tha banter between characters, the map layout and personally - i dont mind the offroading (i just keep it to a minimum). The atmosphere, the music and general feel of the game felt enjoyable.. My favourite part hands down - enjoying a sunset in freeroam or in a tense race/chase. Wish they'd make another one but with a proper upgrade system and better controls. p.s.: yeah i also feel like an actual character whose whole idea revolves around you would feel better.
Imo the worse need for speed game for me is the Most Wanted game from 2012 and also Undercover. They're just meh games overall. Though I didn't like how you had to do very specific things in Payback just to unlock some visual parts.
the reason we got speed cards is because the game is based on gambling its trash i know but dont hate the game just because they made based on the story
the thing is payback had a really cool idea as a story, but it was VERY poorly executed. and, the worst part is, when you think about it, need for speed is a street racing game, not fast and furious!!!!!! basically this game is like fast and furious, it was all about really cool street racing and then turned into some crazy stunts type shit...thankfully though I'd say unbound is finally the best need for speed. having a short story it will automatically turn you to the really cool and actually fun multiplayer which is the big selling point of the game in my opinion. despite what people say, I absolutely LOVE need for speed unbound, and to this day it's still my numero uno favorite.

With you on that rant and people asking for everything to be realistic. It’s starting to become highly generic now that all games got to have this realistic look.
It sucks that ea will never put money down to completely replace the handling for need for speed. The brake to drift handling originated from Hot Pursuit 2010 and now here we are, still jank asf.
I am the world's biggest fan of this game. I love absolutely everything about it, and there's nothing I hate about it. And dare i say the apparently most controversial opinion in the history of opinions... I loved the upgrade system. In fact, i love it more than 2015's or Heat's upgrade system. dang you missed out on nfs heat when it was really fun to play and before the cops got nerfed to the ground :(
It's not that bad. I'm playing it right now. You can buy garages which is unique for a NFS game...
This is the game where the nfs soundtrack completely gave up
Dude Payback being called NFS Casino Edition is literally spot on
Also like you said: Fortune Valley is based on Las Vegas (which we know as the land of casinos)
Need for Gambling: Payback Casino Debt. Another good game idea that was ruined by corpo greed
one of my biggest gripes about this game is the respawns. you respawn when you dont need to be respawned and lose time, or you dont get respawned when you need to be respawned and just better off restarting the race
true, forgot to mention that!
Finally a reviewer that shares my opinion, this game is terrible in every way apart from the graphics, which are decent enough.
I played the game several years ago, and I somehow quit about 4hrs in, don't remember why.
i don't think it was that bad in my opinion, the graphics were good, the storyline was a good, for me the parts that rlly pissed me off were the gambling system for performance parts and how the police system worked. but all in all for me, it was a rlly fun game to play.
Had a lot of fun playing this and even more in the photo mode!
when Bluetag is talking about the "worst", you know it's gonna be a good video
Man, acho legal que um br ta conseguindo entrar na comunidade dos gringos kakakak, tmj ótimo video
Quando descobri que ele era Br eu fiquei em choque
Sério que é BR? kkkkkkk que dahora
There are a lot in payback too.
i had so much expactations for this game and they just trowed a slot machine to upgrade my car
NFS payback feel like they're trying to replica NFS The Run with over the top action scene but location is meh, unlike the Run where location change as you progress through the game Payback location is just Sand and city
A good diversion from this would be to look at a *good* NFS game for a change
That being Hot Pursuit (2010)
Let's be honest, it's one of the last truly great NFS entries and for some reason people tend to overlook it
Not as much as ProStreet, but still
🗿🍷
The Amazons - In my Mind
Boa, agr vou ter q ouvir a OST toda desse jogo pra saber se é tão boa assim ou voce ta de meme
Sim!
Keep doing your thing Bluetag!
thank you so much!
vc e demais 😎👍👍
VOCÊ É MAIS
I found this game pretty enjoyable, the card system just kinda threw me off a bit though. Still managed to make decent cars though since my luck was kinda wack the first week I decided to try
if there was no card system it's a solid game.
The card system hurts it A LOT imo.
Idk what would u do of this info but it means alot to me. I cant play amongus anymore looks like my phone is a bit potato😢
Great video as always
Sadge
the soundtrack is the one thing NFS doesn't dissappoint imo. Even Unbound has a lot of good songs, even though everybody hates them.
Is your head ok ? or do u love listening toxic songs
@@johnredfield071 wym with toxic songs
Ask someone else they will let you know what toxic song is like
Se não fosse por essas micro transações que enfiaram sem dó e piedade, esse jogo para mim seria um nota 6.
The highlight of this games existence was that video where Blackpantha pushed Jake Paul off a cliff
Favorite channel recently. Keep up the good work Blue 👍🏻
holy moly thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You make a good point with the handling, It honestly baffles me how every ghost era need for speed gets it wrong, NOONE likes the drift or die system, I ended up quitting playing heat 4 hours in because of how annoying the drifting got.
Skill issue? I can drift just fine lol
Skill issue
Try drifting in 2015 without the proper upgrades
IIRC The Crew did a slightly similar chance based upgrade system, but it did seem to bias on giving you actual upgrades, and didn't leave ya staring for hours at a slot machine. I thiiink it was worse in the sequel, but I didn't buy it.
Payback had a good story.
The day/Night cycle looked good only in the city but in the desert the game looked.... dry.
And i do play Unbound, only Online but i do play it.
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Bluetag’s TV screen is perpetually moving
There's only one thing I think you should have mentioned...this game is not for us
Gamers or people who cares about
It's for the NEW GENERATION who plays fortnite and FIFA, eats every year release like water. These people pays for it, likes it, wants to buy cards and stuff to differentiate themselves from others
They will continue to push these kind of games, because people buy it, people buy the loot boxes
That invisible wall at 11:50 physically hurt me
great level design
to be honest, i enjoyed playing this game.
Kerela in the background….nice touch
i remember wen i was back in payback fucking offroad races was CANCERRRRRRRR literally almost broke my system bc of this one race
the reason we got speed cards is because the game is based on gambling its trash i know but dont hate the game just because they made based on the story
I really liked this game, the only issue I had with this was the FUCKING UPGRADE SYSTEM. that's it. Other then that, I think it's good.
the thing is payback had a really cool idea as a story, but it was VERY poorly executed. and, the worst part is, when you think about it, need for speed is a street racing game, not fast and furious!!!!!!
basically this game is like fast and furious, it was all about really cool street racing and then turned into some crazy stunts type shit...thankfully though I'd say unbound is finally the best need for speed. having a short story it will automatically turn you to the really cool and actually fun multiplayer which is the big selling point of the game in my opinion. despite what people say, I absolutely LOVE need for speed unbound, and to this day it's still my numero uno favorite.
The worst part if you play the NFS games on PC, even the ones that you can play offline uses Denuvo and a third-party launcher.
With you on that rant and people asking for everything to be realistic.
It’s starting to become highly generic now that all games got to have this realistic look.
the only think i love in Payback is the soundtrack, and the customisation, but the history and gameplay... man this game is garbage
Too bad I bought this at the PS Store, cos there is no refund!
Cos that is what Payback means to me when I was playing this game!
I actually prefered this game to heat. I enjoyed the racing in heat but the police in night time were just too insane and i got fed up with it
Nfs Payback wasnt that bad. In fact it fixed alot of 2015 issue (Drifting)
9:35 you can switch it off in settings
Only disagreement about the whole video is that *Unbounds* music selection is no where near as bad as *Heat*
Nfs payback isn't that bad, I can still appreciate it for doing a heist scene kinda vibe
I've still been stuck on that one fucking drag race in the game, and still havent progressed...
heat better ong
So uh, I like NFS Payback more than heat/unbound.
That may be a rare opinion though.
It sucks that ea will never put money down to completely replace the handling for need for speed. The brake to drift handling originated from Hot Pursuit 2010 and now here we are, still jank asf.
Payback has a bug in one of the missions that makes the game literally unbeatable, and it still hasn’t been fixed.
The desert "country rock" sound you were reffering to is called stoner rock
After Payback NFS soundtracks went downhill
I completely agree 💯
I have no idea why, but it somehow is my favorite NFS game since MW.
9:27 u can turn that off lol
With every video you make I'm more happy that a friend introduced me to your channel.
I'm glad to hear that!
Worst NFS game is unbound cartoon game 😂😂
I am the world's biggest fan of this game. I love absolutely everything about it, and there's nothing I hate about it. And dare i say the apparently most controversial opinion in the history of opinions... I loved the upgrade system. In fact, i love it more than 2015's or Heat's upgrade system.
This has and always will be, my favorite NFS game, my favorite racing game, and my favorite console game.
that is definitely controversial, but it's nice that you found an appreciation for it!
