Death of a parent is so hard, I am so sorry. The first tortilla is always the best.

My grandma was born raised Las Vegas NM and she used salt & baking soda. It taste better and consistency better but my aunt says no. But I’m sure I have pics of her making tortillas and a box of soda on the table

My mother was born in Las Vegas, NM and raised in Villanueva. I never heard of baking soda in the tortillas, that is the beauty of learning from our elders they used what they had and made it work. www.nmcookbookmariabaca.com

How can I get your cookbook? My grandmother was New Mexican Hispanic born in 1923 in Pagosa Springs, CO, she always told jokes about how bad her tortillas were. My family's culture was deeply influenced by her and all my family on her side are in Santa Fe. My mom is getting older now, and I want to cook these homey recipes for her.

Welcome to my kitchen, thank you for your comment, that is the beauty of cooking we all have our own technics that were taught to us by our loved ones. When I am by myself videoing it is difficult to cook and have the camera back and fourth. Thank you again for being a part of my kitchen. www.nmcookbookmariabaca.com

Everyone is different. Many hispanics use baking powder, if not oil, they use butter, shortening. I use baking powder and so did my mom n the tortillas were awesome
