When I trained at the Cat school in Malaga the rule was no more than one and a half turns of the wheels from stockpile to point of turn and no more than one and a half turns of the wheels from point of turn to dumping into the trucks. It’s a brilliant time saving fuel saving rule
That’s quality training right there! The difference between being an driver and a professional operator! An old boss of mine would spray paint on our tires to make sure we weren’t wheel spinning 🤣

I'm not sure if they are training him or what you need to be watching what you are doing and not someone on the ground waving. I've run a lot of different types of equipment on Surface mines and Road Job never had anyone on the ground waving
