BRAVO! Congrats! It seems you guys are a family business and i know how it feels to get a new machine! Once again congrats and may all go well for you and your family with health and prosperity 🙂
Just think of all of the people who are involved with this huge machine.......From the Cat employees who assembled it, their suppliers, support organizations, the customer and all of the people who they represent, but most of all the people who benefit from the work accomplished by these huge machines.......Serious business and good luck to all.
Kennecott Copper took down a mountain in the Bingham Canyon district, extracted millions of tons of copper which pretty much wired up the national power grid. Now we need four times as much copper to upgrade our national grid. Thats what these huge machines are good for.
Good running wheel loader ran one for two years but I don’t think anything beats those 980h I have plenty of time in both but I’d take a 980h or H anyday over the 982m
Brian, Congratulations on your fantastic new machine, I know you’re very proud of all the work that went into getting it. We took delivery of a new (way smaller) brand spanking new loader recently ... when the low loader comes around the corner with the new machine it’s like every Christmas morning all at once. Use it and make a dollar, it’ll be the old machine soon and your kids grown up! 👍👍👍👍
What was the bucket capacity on that one? I currently run a 980m loading our primary crusher, would love it if the boss got me something a bit bigger, I tested a 982m with the 8.5yrd bucket for 40 hours and loved it!
We just bought a new 336 man the new cat stuff is really nice loaders especially👍 good to see the kids enjoying it that’s bout how it is around here when we get something new 🤣

Dang i work at a salt mine and we use a CAT 966 and we feeding salt anywhere from 400 tons per hour to 800 tons per hour depending on the operator with just a 5 ton bucket
I’ve ran both, but cut my teeth on joystick, the joystick is faster and easier in almost all cases IMO, but driving down the highway is the only place a steering wheel is easier.
This machine holds 141 gallons of fuel, 9 gallons of engine oil, 49 gallons of gear oil for the front diff, 45 for the rear and 87 gallons of hydraulic oil.
That’s literally what it is. The 88g,h,k are basically a new design (compared to the 88b) and decided to give the old 88b dimensions to the 86. At least that’s what cat told me when I took delivery of an 88k and we had an old 88b sitting next to it.
Just curious, what's the average wage for an operator running that machine? Here in the NL the starting salary is about 2700 Euro/month and then you pay taxes and shit off of this one.
May not be as bad as you think! Check with your local CAT dealer for details. When you figure that this two-pass machine can fill up a 48-53’ semi dump in just two passes versus a 980 at 3-4 passes at todays fuel pricing, plus getting the line of semis off to the scales faster allowing for more trucks to load out each day, the return on investment starts to show real quick!

Actually, the polar opposite. Cycle times will go down by almost 50%. With this being a two-pass loader, it can get almost twice as many trucks loaded up and off to the pay scales. In the height of loading season, sometimes they have to turn away trucks towards the end of the day because there wasn’t enough time to load all the trucks that showed up that day. With this machine, trucks leave in 2 passes versus 3-4. More trucks means more sellable material leaves each day. More material means more revenue. More revenue means the opposite of no raises. That’s a pretty cheap, blanketed statement. What size model? What conditions? What applications? Same size buckets? There’s not even a Komatsu between the WA500 and WA600 to compare to the 986 that we are taking about here. It’s easy to throw a broad statement out there based on what your coworkers friend said about a machine he ran once at some job he got through the hall. Come at me with specifics and data.

I learned to drive loader on a 986. Feeding wash plant 250 ton an hour lol had to learn fast
Unfortunately I had to drive 1 kilometre to get the 50/140 . Every second bucket so made it slow . If the piles were close can feed like 400 t an hour

Called "soft touch" controls and ya its way better. Especially after 8-9 hours of loading rail cars lol

Nice machine, but I’d take an 88k over that 😎
Get a real operator to operate that, dude scooping half bucket
If I was the owner of that loader I’d sack the operator, no one should be charging the face like he was. Such a shame
It was loose, light, dry material. We were running some tests. No harm at all.
If you operate like that you are inviting all kinds of repairs down the road. Abuse is abuse.....
