Technically he's recreating and rerecording it because the original films and sheet music were actually destroyed willfully by the studios that created them. (dumped and buried in a lot near the studio as garbage) He has meticulously gone back and reconstructed all of the music lost and rewritten it.

@vinegate All classical music is from 'an earlier era' does that mean we shouldn't listen to it, enjoy it or value it because it is old? This music will live on in the same way that Mozart was considered too modern and new in his time. I have to say you have a very blinkered view of music!

There were noted black artists - actors, dancers and singers - around but with rare exceptions like W.C.Handy, there were few black songwriters - and the songwriters are the source of the music that John Wilson has recreated so triumphantly. Many, like Harry Warren, were modest men writing for a living
whose memorable legacy even now largely rests on the performances and
the interpretations of others. Their skills DESERVE to be remembered and being black or white should have no relevance.

too much vibrator in the chorus. listen to the original soundtrack: the chorus sings straight tone (I e., without vibrato), which really makes the wonderful harmonies in the vocal arrangement pop. choral harmonies here become fuzzy and unfocused.

It`s very skilful, clever and all needs a great amount of talent to do this.
However, and with sincere respect, it is from an earlier era - and I don`t understand the effort and idea to spend so much effort on what already exists - nothing new is happening

This is a a great project and I've loved following it along, and going to The John Wilson Orchestra Proms in London etcxx There's just one thing that seems a bit missing to me personally : a lot of this music owed its roots to American black accomplishment, and yet the Hollywood system denied and forbad any black singers, artists to actually appear in these films. Maybe next time John Wilson could acknowledge this and include some black artists to make up for this?Colour-blind is fine now -?

By the way, it seems that the lady is still singing when suddenly she is cut short. Which i think is a shame, since my one complaint is i think her solo sound stops too soon. Otherwise, well it seems an odd way to hold one's head if one isn't singing.

It's so cool to see these incredible musicians out of their formal wear and in their "civvies"!
