I'm 84 now and it was music like this that formed my view of romanticism - I fell in love with a beautiful young girl - I courted and eventually married her and now after fifty five years of marriage, we are both still in love - I still get excited when I see her after we have been apart even for a few hours. When I finally stand before the pearly gates I will turn round to take a last look at the world I am leaving and be grateful for the wonderful life we have had together.
Beautiful. Amazing.
now you have me crying...
Thank you for sharing your story-
So beautiful proving once again that love truly is timeless.
Edward Carron - I’m reading this comment in 2019. You must be 90 now 😊
These two are as close to angels as we will ever see. So perfectly matched. In sweetness as well as musical talent.
Julian Ovenden has become my favorite musical theater performer. His voice is divine. Sierra Boggess is, as usual, heavenly.
These songs will live on forever as long as there are talented singers such as Julian and Sierra to ensure their survival. One is immediately caught up in the beauty of their voices and the lyrical magic of these songs.
Thank you for your comments. Such joy...
Bless You man. My favorite of his hers is from Oklahoma
@@keithshaw1480 Thanks, Keith! We are blessed who still love this beautiful music. Sierra Boggess and julian Ovenden are very gifted singers who bring these beautiful show tunes to life. We thank them for the joy they bring to our lives. Blessings to you also, my brother!
I grew up in the 40s and fifties and still love the songs of the great musicals of my day; nothing today compares to them.
Mad about Julian! And Sierra!! I want more!!!
I love beautiful melodies. I remember them forever. Lyrics I am a bit different with. With these two heroes of song I mimic every note and moment in my mind.
Those were the days...
I wasn’t born until 1964, but my parents were born in the 20’s, they both loved musicals, and my dad had a beautiful voice. I grew up on musical theater songs and can never get enough of them. And Show Boat opened on December 27, which is my birthday (though Show Boat is much older) so it holds a special place for me
julian ovenden is a complete package, utterly goodlooking and gorgeous. the voice, superb and wonderful. a duet from sierra and julian is indeed, magical. love them!
I love Sierra's voice too, but I also want to express some love for Julian Ovenden who is absolutely wonderful
Julian Ovenden is indeed the best and the real deal. More blessings to him in his career. Very talented young man.
I have seen, sorry heard, the John Wilson Orchestra live over 5 times now for my birthday treat. He & the cast and crew never disappoint. Absolutely magnificent, as always. This performance from Sierra & Julian is breathtaking. Sierra looks like a Disney princess. Julian Ovenden is the real deal.
Julian Ovenden is so talented: a fine actor, an amazing tenor, good looking, and quite intelligent and charming. The whole package.
I love everything Julian does- especially his singing. He’s also pefect as Andrew Foyle!
More please!!
Ovendon caught my eye in 'Downton Abbey', but I didn't know he could sing, too! ♥ Yep, the whole package! ♥♥♥
Well yeh, but he's no me.
Julian was born in the town my husband I were born in and I feel that there is a kind of rapport (silly I know). Julian and Sierra are two of the great talents of our generation. Sierra for me was the perfect Christine Daae. She is the inspiration when I sing musical theatre. I highly applaud them both.
Diane Shepherd And she’s even better singing LUSTY MONTH OF MAY!
People Will Say We're In Love", "We Could Make Believe" and "If I Loved You" all have a similar vibe, a cautious longing for deeper involvement, a tentative promise of future commitment. I love all three songs, and all three very different musicals.
Sierra's last name is misspelled; it should be "Goddess."
two beautiful voices, and some of sierra's expressions makes her as cute as can be.
Awesome... Ovenden is amazing. I saw him first in Foyle's War. I knew he was talented but who knew how talented!! Absolutely amazing.
The Proms Musicals are just sensational
My mu and dad used to sing this. Dad passed away a couple of weeks ago and I came here to reminisce :-) R.I.P dad
these two sound so natural together. they are both wonderful singers and I believe that Oscar Hammerstein would be very pleased with their performance of one of his most beloved songs.
steph myers
The music is from Showboat, composed by the great Jerome Kern.
+ninotchka13 Hammerstein wrote the words
The only singers to sing this beautiful song from “Showboat” as well were Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson in the movie, “Showboat”. Sierra and Julian are consummate singers! They are just fantastic together. Such passion they show as they sing this! Jerome Kern was a great composer! Thank you for the download, “UTube”.
Sierra is by far the greatest singer of this song absolutely perfect.
This is GREAT Collaboration of TWO Excellent Performers!
her voice is the most beautiful soprano voice I've ever heard. I just can't stop loving her
Yes, agreed. The most beautiful soprano voice I have heard as well.
@@kateandphoebe I saw her in concert recently and it was heartbreaking that she auditioned for My Fair Lady and lost out to Lauren Ambrose. Sierra sang I Could Have Danced All Night....no words.
Nick Mayor rejection is something you need to get used to, she will be in something else soon enough 🙂
I've seen you in so many comment sections, I just don't remember which ones.😂 But, yes!! I agree!! She's so beautiful!!!
@@rebeccap6878 hey! =)
Don't know why, but Sierra's "hello" makes me grin!!!
Me too 🥺
Me too! She delightful!
They are beautiful together.
Philip Dow n
They're both so perfect...
Aah, Julian Ovenden! ♥♥♥
I agree, her voice is remarkable. God, I wish I was her agent! She deserves the biggest, brightest roles out there.
Julian Ovenden is equally as good. I think he has a beautiful voice-great pairing...
I think Sierra is utterly wonderful in this, both her singing and her acting. Beautifully performed. Thank you so much for posting this.
I think I've fallen in love with her!. She has the voice and charisma in Aces. Julian Ovenden is equally wonderful.
I think it was the previous performance being referred to.
Beautiful music by the great combo of Rodgers and Hammerstein, two of the greatest names in music Julian and Sierra are just plain marvelous together. I keep listening to this, and never tire of it. Thank you so very much.
The lyrics are by Oscar Hammerstein, but the music is by the inimitable Jerome Kern. This work predated Hammerstein's collaboration with Richard Rodgers by about 15 years.
Two beautiful people forever. So talented.what pleasure to see and hear.
SO FREAKIN' BEAUTIFUL!!!
She's so cute. I love this. Possibly best version I've ever heard.
Erin Kahn I think I agree. Although 1951 showboat version I did like as well
JULIAN AND SIERRA! WOW! These two young singers are totally awesome! Absolutely beautiful voices-and they sound terrific together. While I like this particular video I suggest everyone look at the duet of Oklahoma that they did. That was even more amazing!
seen it and absolutely correct fantastic
and the West Side Balcony song is great too
TheMusicguy68 I also love their singing in "Oklahoma" as well.
When Broadway was alive and full of colour!, Showboat is amazing!
What an actress she is! And the voice.... WONDERFUL
Ooohhh Godddd, she is FLAWLESS
Seeing Sierra Boggess and Julian Ovenden tomorrow with the NY POPS/seven reneke at Carnegie Hall. Had no iea Julian Ovenden was a singer...only knew him as one of "Mary's men" on DOWNTON ABBEY.
This is a wonderful little slice out of "Showboat" I have never seen such an endearing duet! I love it!!
Wonderful singing !!
ULTIMATE DREAM TEAM - always. Julian comes from our home town in the UK, and as a classical soprano, I would SO love to sing a duet with him. I guess I shall have to dream!
I LOVE this man💕❤️💕
They both are great , Julian i just saw and heard at the beautiful De Doelen concerthall in Rotterdam The Netherlands with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra . It was fantastic!.
Beautiful song & what beautiful voices!!
WOW This brings back wonderful memories of watching Showboat! I would say that Showboat was the caliber of Sound of Music!
I could just watch a whole show of these two doing whatever together.
Sierra has the ability to make ANYONE smile ^_^. She's AMAZING! ♥
Miranda Miller And cry?
Just love these two and their beautiful singing
i was there.i love the JWO and Julian and Sierra.love the beautiful song from Showboat.
That was as good as it ever needs to be
Very moving
Love them both. Pure talent.
Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson were wonderful in the movie. Julian and Boggess bring all that wonder back to me from long ago. Thank you both so much.
I prefer Irene Dunne and Allan Jones in the 1936 Show Boat movie over Grayson and Keel .But I prefer Sierra and Julian in this performance because they sing it complete
This is the very first time I've heard this song...I'm speechless and breathless, it's beautiful, and both performers were awesome. Now I want to know the whole musical!
Same!
Yeah me too. :)
~:~
This song is so good and yet is not as well known as other musical standards. We're singing a 'Show Boat' medley in our choir and this song features in it and it's fabulous.
Check out Mario Lanza's cover!
Showboat! Find the movie version with Ann Blyth andHoward Keel
I am rather bored with all of the comparisons. Just enjoy the talent as it is. These two singers are truly extraordinary. Period.
Amen. Agreed.
The point was, each is a superb rendition expressing universal human longings in slightly different contexts.
I have regularly viewed this performance since it's first year out. It's actually my favourite modern version.
So I agree with you. Let's appreciate this fine as is performance.
just came across these two and yes chuck you are right, they are extraordinary they compliment each other in every way, sierra's voice is magical.
Love both Julian and Sierra!
Stumbled on this recently while looking for Gordon Mc Rae's Oklahoma. Magnificent.
I as well-Probably in May. Everything Julian sings is outstanding. Same for Sierra.
It makes me cry when I watch her sing,,,so beautiful!
god I would love to go to a concert like this, THIS IS my kind of concert!!
Wonderful, incredible.
I grew up in the era of great musical classics from MGM, Hollywood! "Showboat" is my all-time-favorite esp "Make Believe." I listen to it forever. Many thanks.
Wonderful song and a great performance
"in a phantom kiss"..... deja vu Sierra? Love it!
Chills. Shivers. These two make my heart swell.
When I hear the tune I find that good feelings just wash over me.
This song is my favorite from Showboat; there is something of the flavor of "If I Loved You" from Carousel, and "People Will Say We're In Love" from Oklahoma; two favorites from those shows as well. This rendition is so much better than the abridged movie version.
I think Julian is great in all those Hammerstein shows! Thanks
Yes, i think that it's because those three songs: Make Believe, People Will Say We're in Love and If I Loved You evidences the "true love" and foreshadow the marriage of the couples.
You hit all my favorites. Oklahoma is favorite.
@@BeatrizSun I’ve read that nature of all three of those songs was a device for adding a love song to Act I before the couple were really quite in love yet. ☺️
Both of their voices sound like they could have been on the original soundtrack, but especially Julian's. It has an old quality that is a perfect match for the song.
Simply a marvelous pair.
she's so gorgeous i cant
Wonderful voices ❤️❤️❤️
Juilan O. is flawless!!
FABULOUS TOGETHER SINGING JEROME KERN'S MAKE BELIEVE..
Sierra is perfect.
madeline m
Madeline McKeown i
John Diggle d4
Just perfect!
Back in the 90s, The movie showboat was on TV when my son was about 8 years old. He was in his bedroom and come out and said, “Mom, please stop singing so loud! He thought that was me singing because I frequently sang this type of music around the house. I’m an old soul!!! Love this!!!
Magical song, an Evergreen. Always makes me dream with the make belive world.
So beautiful, so romantic, great couple, God Bless
two wonderful singers . . . .simple
Very beautiful soprano and heavenly voice
That gifted voice deserves the best musical awards available Sierra. Excellent performances! Bravo!
They should play together, excuse me THEY MUST! Such a great duet :)
8:33... My heart melted.
We were there.A pleasure to see them.
They should remake Show Boat with these two.
Agreed!!!!
I couldn't agree more! What a great idea!
He's so handsome!
Both of them are great!! Lovely voices, 💞💞
I could keep on listening to Julian and sierra all day love to hear them sing
Absolutely lovely.
Sierra is such a beautiful lady I could watch her all day.
A very impressive performance from both. This is not an easy piece for either to sing as the expression and vocal range is quite a test for even the most capable, it also requires good direction and stage craft. Thank you for posting
One word: MAGICAL! :)
Joyful and beautiful
She's wonderful. Truly wonderful.
Jerome Kern wrote some great melodies, this one from B'Way's "Showboat" 1927. Movie made in 1951. Another favorite from Showboat is Why Do I Love You.
I see and hear Sierra and have to exclaim: "Yes, God!"
Agree totally with all the comments. Am on holiday in England for a much needed break. 2 days into it and am in bed with covid but these beautiful songs and music are keeping me happy.
gosh--this is wonderful! Irene Dunne did it so wonderfully in the movie(the good one from 1936!) , but as much as i love her,Sierra Boggess really is better
Masterful Performance!
Perfect. They are perfect together
Sierra is so brilhante!! Quente que voz 💕
Just watched him in an episode of Foyle's War. Damn good actor. Damn wonderful voice.
And damn good looking!
@@ritapacitti9599 Yes, very much so. Sierra, too, is very pleasing on the eye.
I wish America could do a show like this on the regular
I just fell in love with Sierra Boggess.
bloody brilliant , absolutey awesome .
What it is to be young and good looking and to be able to sing like that... thank you for posting
She's lovely!
Both of them are amazing. Gaylord is really written for an operetta tenor, but if a baritone is going to sing it, let it be Julian Ovenden. Imagine what might have been if he hadn't been having vocal trouble and had stayed with "Death Takes a Holiday?"
Isn't Julian technically a tenor? Sounds like one to me, and all the writings and reviews about him refer to him as a tenor. I do like his lower notes, though.
