  • THRIFTS, FLEAS & VINTAGE FINDS I TRAVEL KENTUCKY
    A reseller frenzy on a rainy Tuesday morning? That’s the surprise at the end of a long Kentucky back road, where a small rural town offers an antique, vintage and reseller community spun off from the venerable Luke’s Town & Country Flea Market.
    A Civil War era road takes us past tobacco barns, giant animals and small towns, not far from where both Lincoln and Davis (and yes, the Everly Brothers) heralded. Arriving in Greenville, we shop a few folks braving the suddenly stormy weather at the outdoor market, and find some good fresh buys on a mic, a maxim and the real McCoy at an indoor shed. The dealer flashes me prices as I pile them by my newly acquired camel seat.
    Fortunately, Greenville boasts a handful of antique shops, vendor malls, and thrift stores, more than we can even shop in a morning! We discover cool collectibles and some special items in each, and into my van go architectural pieces, a signboard, Krome-Kraft and Alexandrite glass and more reseller picks.
    There’s a ton more that’s fun to see that was left behind. When does a lamp use mineral oil? How does a dresser turn into a bed? Are those underpants a future collectible? See for yourself! This day turned from a rainout into a fun antiquing and vintage reselling pursuit.
    Here are some more of the items we see along the way in this tour:
    Quilt tops, 1950s modernist cat plaques, railroad lantern, cast iron teapot, Hull pottery, fire hose/reel, signs, 1910s Friar pitcher, Blendo beverage set, K-Nex display, Hall glove mold, Fenton cruets, rusty bed springs, enamel burner, aggregate benches, Victorian painted mantel, Lucite pedestal, cranberry glass, reproduction black memorabilia and Little Red Riding Hood ceramics, applied fruit art glass, formica and enameled kitchen tables, water skis, Young’s Treasures of the Heart, Royal Colonial Homestead dinnerware, King’s Crown, Cathy cookie jar, Japanese spice box sets, beauty parlor chair, Viking Epic, Full House characters, Mr. Peanut, Akro Agate, coins, advertising signs, etc.

    O my man, as soon as I see your video up, I go and give you a thumps up, not just because I happened to like your style, but because a video from you means high quality to me, I am 60 yrs old, and I am still learning from you and a few others, plus it brings back so many memories, the things O see, I probably had in my house already in California and Mexico so I get to show my daughter what was in style in the 60,70,80, those are my favorite styles and yes I said 80s in my 20s I truly had fun back then. Great representation of Kentucky! And thank you for going over what is a reproduction or a fake and what is not. I recently got duped by a well known business in Lexington. They sold me one of those chef cookie jars that said McCoy on the bottom. It was a fake. McCoy never made such a thing. I did send you a picture and you knew right away it was a fake. I got my money back but they we’re so rude about it that they will never have my business again. Thanks for another great video George! ❤️

    Hi George. That glass you called Alexandrite glass. I thought it was damage caused by the piece sitting in the sun for too long. I quite like it though. Awesome video as usual.👍

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 года назад

      The lavender shade in the sun colored glass always looks lavender, whereas the lavender color in the Alexandrite glass turns pale blue under florescent light.

    Loved the video! I needed some antique nomad viewing so going back & watching older episodes i missed. I would like to have a vintage kitchen table & chairs😍i have the “cooky” jar by pearl china. Lol, i knew it wasn’t mccoy but i double checked when i got home. I do have some repros bc when I 1st started to collect BAmerican I pretty much bought any piece i ran across 🤦🏻‍♀️. I’m a little more selective now but can’t seem to unload the repros. Thanks for sharing. It’s always fun to travel along!

      Thank you! I'm glad you joined the chat tonight. Repros are hard to sell, we all are exposed to them when we first start collecting but as your tastes and knowledge grow, people tend to want the originals

    Hi George,
    I am watching one of your older videos right now. You are filming in your booth at St. Pete’s Modern Vintage getting ready for a show. You have an amazing wall clock that came out of a bank. I’m in love! Do you still have it? If yes, I have some questions about it. Could I email you? I don’t see your email anywhere. Thanks so much! Julie

    George, Don't be in a rush to get back to Seattle... It's ugly up here with CHAZ and nothing is open yet in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. I am so antsy to get out. but there isn't much to go to right now.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 года назад +1

      I understand Star Center Mall in Snohomish is open again, and Epic in Seattle is open Wed.-Sun. afternoons now. It's slow going and I'm sure that CHAZ has some time to go before it settles.
