I bought an M&P (1.0) 40c on a whim back in 2013 for an EDC (replacing my Ruger P97dc .45 cal lol, different times back then!) and for the past 10 years I carried it I never had ONE single malfunction. Didn't matter if I was shooting range ammo or shooting some conceal ammo I had stored for a while to replace by dumping it at the range. I replaced it this month with a new M&P Shield Plus 9 and it's just amazing how much firearms have come... especially in recent years.

The M&P is definitely one of the best striker guns 👍 But yeah, concealed carry firearms are impressive these days 😎

My opinion on the top 5:
    1911 in .45acp
    Sig Sauer P226 in 9mm
    Glock 19
    Smith and Wesson 586/686, 4” .357 Magnum
Beretta 92, especially a Langdon Tactical or Wilson Combat enhanced model

It is a pleasant video to watch, unlike the many long bearded filthy looking tattooed guys, most of them with no military and/or law enforcement credentials, showing off their physiques (some are just fat) pretending to be "operators" (of forklifts, maybe) shooting and cussing.

When my friend Wayne was an active police officer on the 2nd largest PD in the US, he killed two armed suspects (two separate robberies) who attempted to rob him while he was off duty. Both suspects were armed with semi auto pistols and Wayne had a 2 inch 5 shot S&W 38 spcl revolver, which he always carried off duty, along with 12 extra rounds on stripper clips. After the 2nd shooting I asked Wayne why the hell he still carried that 2 inch 5 shot when his dept had authorized the use of semi auto pistols for on/off duty many years before. Wayne stated, "In a gun fight its not the gun that matters, its the man behind the gun."
The best pistol is the one that you train with and become very proficient with. Wayne is retired now and he still carries that 2 inch 5 shot.

Yes, I carried a snubbie for years. It’s fine. Then a couple of years ago I was standing outside a gas station when I saw four drunk young men start towards a young woman in a red Mercedes. I decided I did not want to be in that situation with a five shot snubbie. But that was a very unusual situation.

@@oklahomahank2378 I was on the same dept with Wayne for 32 yers and also retired. I received outstanding training in the academy, while in training, and once off training and until the end of my career. One of the very first things that they taught us in the academy is that when we were off duty to not get involved in anything, unless our lives or that of a loved one that was with us was in danger. We were constantly told, "Every bullet that you fire will have an attorney attached to it. If you fire that bullet while on duty, the city will pay for all the legal fees and judgements. If you fire those bullets while off duty, you are on your own."
You did the right thing Oklahoma when you did not get involved at all with the lady in distress incident. You got to ask yourself, "Would I risk everything I ever worked for and my family's security for a total stranger?" Of course not. Keep those pistols holstered cowboy unless your life or that of a loved one that is with you is in danger.

I have a S&W 686+ in 357. If you can't make it with 7 of those bombs, it wont matter how many shots you have. Home defense is a different story though. But most street shootings resolve in seconds specially when the bad guy sees you're not a simple prey. Most defense shootings end up with the bad guy running off. An off duty cop is a different thing though cause they're obliged to stop the robber I think. But as a civilian, once you fired a couple shots (hopefully in the A zone) the jobs done, run away, get cover.

I have a soft spot for the P226 and P229, but it is really chonky, has a lot of reciprocating slide mass, and a less than stellar bore axis. Trust me, I love the 226/229 and it’s probably a top 10 gun for me (specifically the Legion) but it just barely missed the mark for shootability and recent QC consistency compared to the other offerings on the list. But I’m just one dude with an opinion 😂👍

    • @reachblowsdick7222
      @reachblowsdick7222 9 месяцев назад

@oceaser6977 - Not really, it makes perfect sense. I own a (True) P226 made in west Germany. But the P226 (even the Legion) falls short compared to the Beretta 92X LT and CZ Shadow2 when it comes to the SA/DA steel frame 9mm. They both shoot flatter and are a little easier to carry and not as big and bulky. And the CZ Shadow2 would be the most durable and reliable of the three. I also own a CZechmate TS-75 and that bad shoots better than all of the them.....except the StaccatoXC.

It's a good list, but when I think "best" pistols, I think the most value, and most applicable for a large range of people (much in the way a military or department/agency would think of it). Several of these are $2500+ pieces with hair competition triggers, etc. Several of these guns are well out-of-reach of most people, and would be a liability for some new shooters (great triggers are not the best solution for new shooters in my experience). I'd also take into consideration cost of magazines, ease of servicing, etc.
This is similar to a car list where a $130,000 BMW beats out a $24,000 Toyota by dint of performance and expensive materials, etc. Not a bad list, just not terribly applicable to new/common shooters.

I noticed the slide stop wasn’t fully flush against the frame…took out my brass mallet, held a Delrin rod against the stop and gave it a light tap. That freed up the slide. Guess I put enough side pressure gripping the gun, which combined with the recoil of the slide, allowed the stop to move just enough to completely lock up the gun. Glad it happened during practice and not on a two way range. Never had any issues since. Agree the Staccato will instantly improve your shooting. Buy once, cry once. Love my XC.

I want add that I like that you included the CZ 75 family of pistols on the list. If you didn’t, I was going to say I would recommend the CZ 75BD or P-01 if you want a compact with an accessory rail. They are both very reliable and accurate out of the box. They are both also fairly inexpensive, definitely not as much as a Shadow 2.

The Shadow Compact is very light weight, concealable, and shoots very well. I highly recommend it. Just be aware that it has a great trigger because it doesn’t have a firing pin block. So it is not completely drop safe. And you must also decock the hammer by-hand so that can be dangerous if your technique isn’t good.

    5. Styr M9 or L9: in my opinion: much, much better ergonomics than the other Austrian brand.
    4. Glock 19x/ Glock 45 Gen 5: Because it’s so ubiquitous, there’s a tremendous aftermarket support. And it doesn’t give you “Glock Knuckle “ like the G19
    3. Grand Power XCalibur: Out of the box, best “competition gun” for the price. The single action is right up there with the Shadow II. Rotating barrel makes it a flat easy shooter. Dead nuts accurate. Can be purchased for less that $750, or nearly half the Shadow II
    2. SIG 226: Battle tested. A huge aftermarket support system. The Legion SAO has nearly a 1911 level trigger in a platform that can carry 17-rounds.
    1. CZ SP-01 Tactical : runs like a champ. Flat shooting. Can easily upgrade the trigger. The 22 Kadet kit is the most reliable, best shooting 22 I’ve ever shot. Plus, it has a de cocker so you don’t have to worry about breaking a firing pin. You can save a little shooting 22 ammo and in less than 2-minutes, you can swap the slide and have a duty grade pistol. Infinitely better than the Glock 44 or any o stand alone Glock conversion kits.

I think I would really like the CZ, but haven't shot one, they look really cool though I think the Jericho looks cooler.
