Number one trick to learn. “Ride”. Ride your board everywhere. Get comfortable on it. Then this video. Don’t underestimate how important just moving on the board is, it’s fundamental. Everyone wants to do tricks right away, but riding should be priority. All that being said, plenty of simple tricks to do in this video. All needed to get better. Hope everyone learns something or at least gets reminded of something and tries it out. More skaters the better!
This is so true. I rode a longboard for like 2yrs and then stopped for 4yrs and decided to get an actual skateboard and I’m so damn uncomfortable on the board. I can’t do big pushes at all
Sure but nowadays any skater with basic moves should be able to ollie. The standards are different. Learning ollies after learning how to roll and tic-tacs is perfectly fine.
I’ve watched probably a dozen Ollie tutorials now and just still can’t get it and this is absolutely the best video I’ve seen for beginner beginner basics
glad you saw this video then. there are 100s of other things you can do besides the ollie. ive even seen videos of female skaters skating transition at skateparks fluidly before they even attempt an ollie. dont be hyperfocused on that one trick. just enjoy the ride. you got this !
@@scizophrenic2602 Exactly. Acid drops, curb slides, boneless, poor man's nose stall, nose stall sex change. Are freestyle boards different? And are they more "welcoming" if you want to learn this type of skateboarding? Edit: Ahh never mind, I'm having a field day at their website rn :D
Very nice, as someone who is probably much older, heavier, and unathletic compared to the average total beginner, its really encouraging to see good tutorials for simple, foundation building tricks that I can learn with low risk of injury.
So you know, youre gonna get hurt skating no matter what. The importance is to wear protection so its not that bed and so you can get right back up again.
If you are older and don’t want to get hurt, what is wrong with just riding the board? Why do you need to learn tricks. If you want to learn tricks you can’t be afraid to fall. I’m not trying to fall on my older bones and I’m wanting to get back on a board after having a heart transplant. I just miss having a reason to go outside.
ey man i got my first drop through yesterday at 28 (had a skateboard in my teens but i only used it to go from a to b) just enjoy i mostly wanna use it to go places but i think the ollie would be super useful for me. curbs and that
All this fancy footwork reminds me so much of figure skating, and it seems to use a lot of the same skills. As an ex figure skater that just recently started skateboarding, I’m excited to try some of these
Freestyle is awesome. I don't know if you're familiar with Rodney Mullen but he made a whole career as a freestyle skater in the 1980s and then he adapted those tricks to street style. He invented the kickflip, flat ground ollie, impossible, heel flip among other difficult tricks. If you're familiar with him, well then you know.
Thanks for this video! I didn’t realize how much nicer basketball courts and tennis courts are than parking lot asphalt. I tried skating on a basketball court today, and tricks were so much easier! I was able to check these tricks off, and they definitely helped my little ollies

Fantastic tricks for basic board comfort 👍 I think hippy jump's a huge help with timing and giving learners a sense of the bolts and balancing across the deck's long axis.
I bought a board as a gift for myself with all the good stuff and can’t wait to get on it and have fun and maybe after I get used to riding around I can try these neat moves :-) ♡

Yes indeed. Because it will make landing that much easier when you are comfortable on the board. I think back in the day a lot of people got discouraged because you had to learn to Ollie then kick flip. Most people couldn’t get it down and gave up I think. I just want to ride now, but I will go over these tricks again. I’ll leave out the ones that will scratch the bottom of my board though. Until I get a junk board.
It’s odd to me cuz I started skateboarding in 1999 I was 6 i naturally went through these steps I never thought about kids missing the essentials. Good work everyone who’s interested in skateboarding listen to this
Got the Tic-Tacs down, the rail stand land one was amazing advice it’s a feeling I’m getting used to still, then I nailed the penguin so I took it to the next step and the monster walk really isn’t that hard. Thank you for the helpful tips and inspiration!
That was cool! Thanks a lot, cause i’ve been struggling to complete ollie, lacking that ability to land on the board. Will practice those for more balance!
