The 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum Is A Useful & Ultra Fancy Electric F-Series

- Опубликовано: 25 янв 2024
- After a couple years on the market, the #Ford #F150Lightning continues to be an ultra competitive electric truck built on America's best-selling #FordF150 nameplate. While Ford has continued to make improvements to the #Lightning over the past couple years, competitors are beginning to put some dents in its armor. The #F150Platinum is the most luxurious version and with its 6-figure price tag, some of you may end up confusing this truck for a Lincoln.

im still waiting for the $40k version
That's PROBABLY not coming until another generation / breakthrough of battery technology hits the market. There's just no sense in it. The only way you'd see them accomplish that NOW is to have a giant truck footprint like this, but with a much smaller battery. It'd help the price, but it'd further hurt your range and be an all around gimmick product which Ford can't really afford to make right now. . .
$40k won't even get you a Ford Escape Plug-in hybrid ($47k)
They will arrive in the year 2063
Remember when ford promised that 😂 meanwhile an f150 xl 2wd regular cab is 40k…
Hahaha 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 @@BlazeTomBay
Over $97,000 that's why so many at the Ford dealer parking lot instead of on the road.
And why they are laying off 1500 Ford Lightning Employees because vehicle demand is "Lower than expected." Expect a fire sale on Lightnings to show "A huge run on them" in the near future.....I still wouldn't buy one if they were half off.
And there are still a bunch of 2023's on lots here. They are not selling.

Only 4.1 sec and NO massaging seats?!! Talk about first world problems! Other than the range, it sounds like a great buy. Thanks for another awesome review. Cheers!

It’s 2024. That interface response time is unacceptable.
Can't they put some real CPU's in the vehicle? An Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 9?
@@mowcowbell it has to sustain terrible heat and terrible cold, so more expensive for an all-weather CPU, but it can be done easily. GM infotainment is spot on, super responsive, touch screen is as good as iPhone.

I looked at the Lariat that had been upgraded, ended up going with the Powerboost Hybrid and have been happy with it.
A couple of winters ago here in Texas when we had no power for several days Powerboost owners ran their homes off of their trucks. Ford deals loaned out their in stock models so people with medical issues could run their life saving equipment.
A Maverick or Ranger Lightning would be awesome too. Thanks for the review, Sofyan!
Can they just stop this non-sense and start making smaller cars people can actually afford? They can make 2 electric cars, or hell 5 plug-in hybrid with the quantity of batteries it takes to make a single one of those trucks. What people need is electric Fiestas, Focus, Escape, Mavericks. Those small(er) commuter make sense to be electric/electrified. F150 with the current state of battery tech makes no sense.
But they will not be able to justify slapping high prices on them. Auto industry assured everyone needs large trucks as daily commuters, so they make more money. Men with small hands totally bought into this idea, so they can look more masculine (they don’t). But EV pickup goes against this mentality, you cannot look masculine driving an electric truck. It is a huge misunderstanding of the target audience by Ford marketing team. If they wanted to sell large overpriced vehicles to justify its price, they should’ve made EV Expedition for rich suburban moms. Moms have fewer issues with looking masculine, but love extra capacity for storing more kids inside.
This couldn’t be any further than the truth. The lightning is a super useful and practical truck. It does all the things you need to do and checks all the boxes whenever it comes to being a full size truck. In America, it’s proven that Americans like bigger vehicles. We tow and haul things more. Actually put these trucks to use. I think the lightning is a great truck.
@@redacted4167 I never towed anything in my life. All I haul is mulch and my old Cadillac CT6 has a big enough trunk. No, we don’t need pickup trucks as daily commuters. Every pickup driver screams NPC and insecurity to me.
@@00_UUwhat if you have horses and livestock? What are you supposed to do put them in a ford fiesta lol? Or a small business owner contractor etc? That’s a wild take from you sir but i respect it. lol
@@redacted4167 sure, livestock and horses need a truck. But 95 percent of truck owners do not use it for farming or any contractor work. They buy trucks as commuter vehicles trying to look more masculine driving to the office. Men with small hands.
I have the Lariat with standard range, plus the Ford Charge Station Pro (80A) fast charge and the Home Integration System bi-directional inverter system that powers my entire home, including HVAC, whenever "the grid" goes down. I like to think that my home solar system charges my truck for everyday driving, and if/when needed, the truck powers my home. I really like driving my Lightning! I will say that, if you're in a hurry on a long road trip, take your alternate ICE vehicle because EV travel requires advance planning (for charging stops) and the extra time (like dining or shopping) while your truck is charging up for the next segment of your trip to the next charging station.
FYI....There is a remote start on the key FOB. Good review.
After he said $97k, all i heard was mumbles.
Hopefully someday, I can buy this EV truck.
You’ll be waiting awhile
Rented a Lightning last summer and towed trailer, great experience
Thanks for reviewing this. All the coverage is about who's winning and who's losing. I have been unable to figure out why these aren't selling like hotcakes. Looks awesome to me.
You can't use as a truck and the range sucks! Oh and let's not talk about how long you have to charge to get going again...wow can't wait to buy one, SMH!!!
Honestly, I rented one with both long and standard range. The standard range is terrible at freeway driving when it comes to range, and the charging wasn't great. The long range did better, but I was only getting about 240 to 260 miles of range when EPA says closer to 300. I also had constant issues with the infotainment system on both, ether constantly freezing, or I had a weird issue with the sound system only using 1 speaker. Hard resets didn't fix the issue. Financing isn't great on these right now ether considering most of the lots only have left over 2023 models.

Range when towing 2 jet skis about 100 miles.....mine V8 about 375. Then I fill up in about 10 min. I also paid 38K for a brand new 2020 XLT crew cab. With regular maintenance it will go 300k if not more.
@@Medo-xq8od this^
@@Medo-xq8od I don't know which engine you have or whether its 4WD. I also don't know your driving habits, or the cost of fuel in your area, but assuming an F150 has a 3.5 V6, 4WD, averages 18 MPG (EPA rating) and fuel costs an average of $4.00 per gallon, a truck in this configuration will cost about $66,666 in fuel to go 300,000 miles. Assuming an average cost of $0.16 per kWh for residential electricity and an average consumption rate of 2.1 miles per kWh (+15% transmission losses), an F150 Lightning can cost as low as $26,286 to go that same 300,000 miles assuming all charging is done at home. However, even if _all_ your electricity came from public chargers (which roughly cost about double that of residential rates), your total electricity cost, at worst, would be $52,571, but this is highly unlikely.
@@directorjustin gas price in TX is around 3.25. I get 20 mpg combined with V8. I paid 38k for the new crew cab XLT. Now they are 48k after discounts. The cheapest electric is 52k,- xl truck, work version. XLT is 57k. Battery life is expected to be around 150k with significant degradation. At that point the new battery according to Ford is around 22k. My V8 won't need any major work besides regular maintenance during its lifetime. ( Should go easily 300k). So I am saving 19k on the price vs new F150 EV, 22k on the battery replacement plus i can actually tow 350 miles comfortably without worry. Then I fill up in 10 min and go another 350 miles.
@@directorjustin : Anymore comments about how a Lightning is superior to his gas powered F-150 XLT?
You can program the 5 button Lightning key fob to work for the Mach-E. The Mach-E key doesn’t have a frunk button.
Really? Most other Ford models will let you program the 5 button key, but will only work when placed on the back up slot.
The thing I like is the battery warranty. It’s great with the lighting unlike a tesla.
I was priced out of the Lariet when they initially rose prices before launch. But realistically, any vehicle over $60K became inaccessible given the current interest rates. This Platinum trim is laughable given the current market. Great truck though.
24 model has a heat pump btw.
I had a reservation to order for over a year before I canceled. Recently finally got a chance to test drive one. I wasn't impressed. Drove nice but the interior compared to the new Silverado (ICE) just felt extremely cheap and not as comfortable. No rebates or any real deals. The local ford store sold a grand total of one (1) since they came out. Suddenly they've got several on the lot and they're pretty much telling people they're going to be disappointed. Congrats on 1 million subs! Well done!

Ev trucks will suck coz they are really heavy than gas trucks and lose more range when carrying heavy stuff in bed or towing will lose nearly more than 50% . These trucks should lose some weight and offer smaller wheels for better range and improve the range when carrying stuff in bed or towing .
You are saying this like pickup truck owners are towing or hauling something daily. Most pickups - 99 percent - I see have empty beds and never tow anything. Plenty of pickups that are driven to the office as commuter cars.

We have accepted that electrics will out accelerate gas trucks but we also accept their downfall. Soulless appliances.
I would argue that the ice version is also soulless. What do you determine as having soul? I would say anything that provides spirited driving, like a sports car (which could also be an EV). No pickup, short of perhaps a Raptor R, would give spirited driving. You can do anything in this as you can with the ice F150. Engine noise does not equate to having soul.
@@jeffs6090 Cybertruck? Possibly Hyundai since it is unibody, but I dislike how anemic most Hyundais are.

The wheels and the front light bare drive me nuts.
I’m all in if Ford will (1) redesign the looks… really just clean up the front end to look more aggressive and truck like. (2) figure out how to make aerodynamic wheels that look good (3) increases range to 400 miles with a trailer tow range of at least 220 miles.

I purchased 2 of these in late 2023 and In as much as this is a nice vehicle for someone who is just going from point a to b. for someone who is on the road constantly it does not work. There in no personal home that can handle a full power charging station. And the 3rd party charging stations are limited and very expensive. If you are an outside sales person they are useless. That look great and drive great but for a working person and one who drives a lot it is useless
What do you mean by full power charging? Don’t you get 8 hours of sleep every night? Do you use both of them in the same time every day? Isn’t 240v charging enough to get them charged overnight?
No one needs to charge at maximum amps, we don't with our two vehicles, and yet we can charge two EVs from the same circuit. A 24 amp charger is fine for this vehicle, for most of us. 24 amps is essentially running an electrical dryer. A good quality charger (EVSE) can be had for under $400. Spend a little more and you'll get a smart connected unit..... but really not necessary.
Both vehicles have separate drivers. Each has a charger at their home which is hard wired into a 100 amp service. One driver goes from home to work with a few short trips throughout the day. Works great.
The second driver is a salesperson who in on the road all day going from call to call. If the manufacturer gave accurate information on the true life of the battery, especially in cold weather then we would never have purchased it. An example of this is that he was at 70 km when he plugged the truck in to charge. 13 hours later he had 471 km range. He took his daughter out for breakfast. Drove 6km and the actual drop in is km’s was 60km. How can someone who drives around for a living use this vehicle

It takes zero minutes to fill if you charge it overnight. Does your cell phone charge in 3 minutes? Do you complain about your cell phone not running on gas or diesel?

Saving our planet? lol. Have you seen what is needed to obtain the lithium for those stupid batteries and what is causing to the areas where are obtained? no counting with children labor to do it. Not worth the money for range and towing
Opps sorry kept doing it.
I think there needs to be some corrections to this review, and many others as well. For one thing, can we stop harping on the effect towing has on range as if gas powered vehicles magically get more range when towing? If you tow you cut your range, it does not matter if it's an EV or much more expensive to own gas or diesel powered truck. Of course Ford could do some improving of the capacity and chemistry of the battery pack, and the aerodynamics, to improve range but let's stop pretending as if gas vehicles don't have to obey the laws of physics too. Though, to be fair, Soyfan isn't the only one making this mistake, there are too many reviewers and reporters treating EVs and towing the same way.

Unless the number charging stations equals or exceeds gas stations, the US will never go 100% EV. Politicians should be pushing hybrids instead of some stupid EV goal

Public chargers are quite common. But if your idea of a charger is ONLY a DC fast unit, then yes, there are fewer of those.
