    Good video! Drove my 2022 Ford Mach-e to work today and passed another Lightning. Nice truck. Still too big for me. BUT - I just looked at the gas prices today. At $4.52 per gallon, it would have taken $117 for me to fill up my 2006 Chevy Avalanche, a truck I drove
    for 180,000 miles before selling it. As for a power outage, it was 2007 when I had the last outage at my house. Not so concerned with
    that. I think you need to address the average truck user - not everyone tows a 15,000 pound trailer every weekend. In fact, when I had the Avalanche, I only towed maybe 20 times in the 12 years I owned it.

      @@truckedupevs I love my Mach-e. I bought it in October 2022 and now have 27,000 miles. Zero issues. I also only have level one charging at home, but that hasn't been a problem. Friend gave me a level 2 charger when he went from a Hyundai Ioniq 5 to a Tesla Model S Plaid. I haven't installed the 240 volt plug yet. We'll be going on our next road trip from Los Angeles to Northern California in a few weeks. Should be good. Only thing I wish it had was sentry mode and dog mode like on the Tesla cars. My lightning platinum will power everything in my home for 4 days, and just the essentials for up to 10 days. I am just using a 30 amp generator receptical & 30 amp interlocked breaker. Granted, you can't turn everything on at the same time, but I do have 7200 watts 220 volts available, so it even powers my deep well water pump during a power outage. I seldom see any of these reviews discussing the capabilities of the onboard power inverters available on this vehicle. Besides the available 7200 watts in the trucks bed, there's another 2400 watts available in the frunk & cabs combined recepticals, giving you an available 9.6 kw of total power.

    Awesome and agree with all your points. Only part I disagree with is the math used for calculating the savings between charging at home vs gas. You used the gas price average but used your special overnight/downtime electric pricing. You should had used the average of that as well. Although a small point, the savings still favor the electric truck.

    • @dvader3263
      @dvader3263 9 месяцев назад +4

      You can choose to charge an EV only at night for a few hours, while you're sleeping, when rates are lowest.
      Electricity prices at home usually don't fluctuate up and down. Hence a set price. But yes, over time, electricity prices rise.
      Gas prices can fluctuate greatly. Daily, weekly, yearly and by the decade. And also from gas station to station on any particular day.

    • @MasterBun4You
      @MasterBun4You 9 месяцев назад

      @@dvader3263 I understand all that. Its just a more apples to apples comparison to use the correct average. I have a plan where my weekend night are free, but i am not going to make a youtube video comparing the gas average across the state with my electricity rate and assume that is applicable to the general public. Although that would be really good clickbait lmao "GET AN EV AND NEVER PAY FOR CHARGING!?!?"

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs  9 месяцев назад +3

      @travellover3373 9 месяцев назад

      @@MasterBun4You Your logic seems to suggest that one should buy fuel across the street where it is more expensive in the name of fairness. With gas you usually go where it is cheaper, you don't find the average price and you don't have a choice but to buy them when you need them. With EV, you usually charge it when you are not using it, which is at night, which happens to be the time of the cheapest rate for electricity. So your logic is wrong.

      To be fair, the prairies get a LOT colder than Norway.

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs  4 месяца назад

      @@OccamsPlasmaGun That is correct. Canada is the second-largest country on Earth, and we cover a huge arctic section. Norway is colder in the summers but warmer in the winters - correct if using a sweeping brush of a generalist - so this too is a little skewed.
      Norway is shaped similarly to Japan in that it runs its greatest distance from north to south. saying Japan is warmer than, say, the Okanagan, would be true in some areas and completely wrong in others. Hokkaido has arctic-like temperatures while Okinawa is warmer than Hawaii.
      Northern inland Norway, near Karasjok, is colder than the prairies. Oslo in the south is much warmer.
      Basically, it's all splitting hairs. Norway is cold. Canada is cold. Both have warm regions, both have freakin' cold regions. EVs work well in both countries. Norway sells 90% of all new autos as evs. Canada, but even more so the US, has an ideological addiction rather than actual factual aversion to anything other than its own inefficient and damaging fossil fuel means of locomotion (which is even more ironic, being Norway made most of its wealth from fossil fuels)
      New ev architecture works much better than ev tech five years ago. If you have an older ev, it will suck more in the winter. If it's newer, it will suck less. ICE vehicles are insanely inefficient in the winter but they can extract 12,000watt/kg vs. 700watt/kg from the latest ev battery tech
      The newest tech going into batteries and heat pumps means that by 2025, they'll be comparable to ICE vehicles in range loss due to cold.
      Thanks for the comment!

      What a great comment, and inspiring!
      Because of this, I'm going to do a camping trip with my wife and give you a video shortly. I've been across the province with no issues. I guess it depends on your country. Here in western Canada, not an issue. Even the tiniest villages have fast chargers (although not all of them are fast!). Many campgrounds also have Level 2 chargers so you can park and charge overnight while you camp.
      It just involves a bit more planning, but up until the 21st century, the same was required fro most camping trips involving gas and diesel if going remote.
      I think the fear has really limited ev adoption. It's my job from a trucked up dude perspective to dispel some of those myths :-).

It is also extremely hot out there. Would an ev's battery overheat? For other areas, I shall research campground charging.

      @truckedupevs  6 месяцев назад

      @@duttinster Sorry for the late reply, Rohit. I'm in the middle of moving my house.
      That's a tough question to answer. Unlike the US, Canada has far fewer XLTs around, and the extended range doesn't qualify for the ev incentives as far as I am aware (the threshold for both BC and federal incentives is $70,000). That's why I bought the standard range because it saved me $9000.
      Also, if you order a 2024 XLT from Ford or buy from the dealers, you can no longer get it in an extended range, only standard range, which means you have to bump up to the next higher trim to get the bigger battery in 2024, the Flash, which starts at $79,900 MSRP in Canada. That's still better than the XLT Extended Range in 2023, which came in at around $84K MSRP starting.
      I would try to get that number down at a dealership on the Flash, or I would buy a low mileage used 2023 XLT extended range (or even a 2022 because it had the bed weigh scales!), if I was buying again (which I might do in the near future and trade in my current XLT).
      I hope some of this is helpful.

Film something, edit it, edit it some more, then rewrite the script and start over. Somehow deliver against your (planned) content calendar with all of that wheel spinning (this at least keeps you honest and producing!)

The only thing I’m not super impressed with are the infrequent OTAs. I got the standard range and it suits my driving needs perfectly. My Tesla adapter is scheduled for a June arrival.

    Not sure if I can qualify for the Pro model in Canada, but it would be interesting to find out more about it. I do a lot of short distance towing for the farm (25-40 miles one way) at harvest time. Usually 5-6,000 lbs to the plant and back empty.

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs  9 месяцев назад

      The Pro was not available in Canada until late 2023, and only in very limited numbers - and then the strike happened at the Ford factory and no production made it to Canada anyway.
      I had originally ordered one but was told I wouldn't be able to get mine until mid-2024, which didn't work at all. Both the federal and provincial sites in BC show it in their qualifying list, but only the standard range, which sounds like it would be absolutely perfect for your application. I think Ontario dumped theirs, but not sure. Nova Scotia still has a good provincial incentive, even more than BC I think.
      The Pro actually has a higher towing capacity than the XLT, I believe, and would make short work of 6000lbs. Ford also indicates it's available for order on the Ford.ca site.
      Let me know how it works out! Thanks for commenting!

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs  8 месяцев назад

      @@JG-er5us Not that I am aware of. I have been following many developments but Fird has yet to publicly come out with anything.
      It is one of the things that I have insisted is a needed product but will likely come from third-party providers now that Tesla is offering one for the Cybertruck. The problem is being able to hook them up directly to draw from while driving. Currently, one would have to use any range extender to charge the main battery by plugging it in through the CCS port, which makes it rather useless. All future EV trucks need to incorporate a direct auxiliary plug for such applications
      The Lightning battery packs are also modular, so it is technically possible that sometime in the future it might also be an option to 'update' one's battery pack with more range. I see this as more doubtful, but the range extender is a HUGE need for the ev truck space, without having to go to a series hybrid option, etc.
      I hope this helps.

      I apologize, Jesus. I was certain I responded to this comment (maybe on another video?)
      I have referred to the need for a range extender in the form of a battery 'tidy tank', but outside of Tesla saying it's coming for the Cybertruck, we're all still waiting.
      The worst part is, it seems no one has bothered to add an auxiliary input plug to draw power from a secondary source. The only current option is to plug into the charging port, which one can't do while driving, leaving the only option to plug in from an range-extending source - and then waiting for it to charge the primary.
      Fingers crossed the industry catches up to the obvious demand for this.
      Thanks again for commenting!

    At one time I was very against the EV push. Then one day I brought my wife into ford to test drive a few vehicles. Reluctantly she decided to just humor herself, and test drive a Lightning. 2 hours later we drove off with an Avalanche color 2023 XLT, and parked in the garage. Two months later, putting many miles on her truck, and ignoring my beloved Diesel, I again took a short trip over to Ford. 2 hours later my Diesel became property of Fords used inventory, and I headed home with my second 2023 XLT lightning, parking my beautiful Silver color right next to my wife’s avalanche colored XLT.

    If you could strap a gen on the back and charge while driving then you would have the cat by the tail. I like the idea but sometimes I have to drive very long distance with not much around. Gas can make it, EV can't, and I can put a can of gas in the back if I am worried about it. I think Ram is going to do something like that, use a V6 to run a gen to keep going. That might be a really good idea but just any gen in the back helping you get there would be good.

    • @truckedupevs

      Exactly, Richard. The other option is the electric 'tidy tanks' that are already approaching the market but the vehicles for either option need to catch up by having a direct feed aux. outlet. Northern VA dealer near my house has at least 30 F-150 Lightning sitting behind ICE and Diesel models that are selling. Driving from VA to GA with a 10K trailer, the lightning had to be charged 14 times. My ICE truck did the same in 2 Fill-ups with miles to spare. My friend spent more on fast charging than I did on gas. When I have time to waste perhaps when I retire, I will try one.

I know I want an electric truck even to the point of having a deposit on a Canoo ( not out and may never come out) and a Ram Rev ( not due out until late 4th quarter), I v'e seriously leaned into the R1T as well but just can't justify the money. I used to have 2 F-150's and for some reason went to Dodge. I am going to go look at the Lightning after watching your video as I just don't think I could pass it up after hearing from some absolutely dry sense of humor Canadian, What could go wrong with that scenario unless you are are a Trudeau supporter. I doubt this as you did make the funny Biden comment, very subtly, but I heard it and for that you won my vote for Canadian of the year. I would offer to give you Biden but you have a Trudeau and that does not seem fair to punish a country that gave us Hockey (eh) :-) Love the video and I did subscribe. I wish you all the best and I 'll inform you as to my decision in the very near future.

    Hmmm...didn't Ford have some Lightening trucks catch fire in their production parking lot awhile back? Oh yeah. There goes your electric truck AND your house!

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs  9 месяцев назад

      And in the same period, didn't several hundred gas vehicles catch fire and burn down houses - but anti-EV, pro oil & gas pundits are not fans of actual facts because that doesn't fit their narrative? It's simple math. I hav enow mentioned this glaring oversight in three videos. Maybe watch my FUD video. I go over this same, old trope - over, and over, and over ad nauseum on a regular basis...

  • @michaelfrohn255

    And the oil companies are buying stock in electric companies as you speak! And everyone is going to get a significant price increase in electric bills! Why? Because the infrastructure has to be built!! Fuel prices will begin to drop, while electric will rise. Common sense here!

    Nice video, however you along with all other videos never address the people who rent an apartment in a complex who have no interest in installing chargers. Your time and energy is wasted finding chargers that are accessible and operating. Charging time comes no where near a traditional fill up. Until this is addressed, ev’s will always fall short.

    • @truckedupevs
      @truckedupevs  8 месяцев назад +1

      Great post, Rob. Actually, I have addressed that very issue in several of my videos. I agree with you. In many scenarios for many urban folk, evs don't yet make sense until this hurdle is overcome.
      Thank you for bringing this to light in the comments. It's an important point that should not be overlooked.

      @@truckedupevs thanks!! Again i want ev’s to be an option for everyone, myself included. There are several vehicles i am interested in. I sincerely hope the technology in batteries and charging makes major advances to capitalize on the vehicles that are able to be created.

    Not a "bad truck" overall but a few big problems with it.
    (1) Lower range (320 mile range is very disappointing too low a range to tow anything big far distances over 100 miles esp in the Winter months)
    (2) No super fast 350kwh charging capability (unlike GM variants)
    (3) No 4 wheel steering
    (4) No midgate configuration ability. (Unlike GM variants)

      Yup. I applied for the BC $4K, and the federal was automatic at the dealership, so yes $9K. Keep in mind this is to the $70K max, so the XLT and the Pro are the only two trims that qualify.
      My order was for the Pro, but it took too long as far as waiting for my order, so I tracked down an XLT.
      I hope thid helps.

      I appreciate not wanting a particular vehicle based on your needs, but to assign politics to an EV truck is like saying, "one of those Biden I-phones" or "those Deep State Nixon fax machines".
      It's just funny - and sounds foolish.
      Maybe ask some of the good folk on this page who own Lightnings if politics played a part when buying their truck. You obviously made some big false assumptions about my political affiliation, which - by the way - WON'T ever be mentioned on this channel.
      Oh, and last note on the Kerry comment, which, being Canadian I can only partially fathom:
      Were you aware that Ford was working on the Lightning's development while Trump was still in office back in 2018?
      Like I said, funny - and foolish.
