All models of the Ford F-150 Lightning come with dual electric motors, standard range models have a 98 kWh battery with 370 km/240 miles, a combined 462 horsepower. Extended Range models a 131 kWh battery with 515 km/320 miles, a combined 580 horsepower. The Ford F-150 Lightning offers 8.4” of ground clearance, it has unique signature front lighting that wraps around the headlamps and extends across the entire front of the hood. It comes standard with LED headlights and LED taillights, a grey satin metallic grille, black or a tinted chrome grille depending on the trim you choose, 18” wheels in the US, 20” in Canada, available 22”. My husband loves your review but he wants to say that this truck is perfect for him. He's an electrician and loves that it comes with a generator feature and all the other features he can use on different job sites. It has great torque for towing to sites around town he says he won't need to tow further than 50 miles. It has a good load capacity he says he can carry all his tools in that awesome frunk.

      @darpompie4354 15 часов назад

      Yup as a home builder, we got one too to try out and they are absolute game changers. The frunk is awesome to store and charge tools so you can keep the bed empty to haul lumber/plywood/drywall. You have a silent powerhouse generator in the back. It hauls and tows better than any other half ton. Virtually no maintenance or wasted time at gas stations. Just plug in at the end of the day and have a full "tank" every morning (for us, at an electricity cost of $3 per 100 miles). The problem is. at least with reviewers and EV haters, everyone who owns a truck is portrayed to not even have a home. They just strap on the heaviest trailers they can, and just keep driving them all day from one end of the country to the other. Not saying that there aren't people that need to do this, and they would be right to say, this is not the truck for them. But for a lot of us contractor types, our trucks never leave the city limits. You can not beat this truck for utility and operational costs if it fits your use case.

    I always find it amusing when people are upset when someone buys a light-duty pickup truck and doesn't do "Truck Things". They don't have anything to say when someone buys a 700hp Shelby Mustang and never takes it to the track. When someone buys a fullsize SUV like the new Cadillac Escalade V with 600 plus horsepower to drop off the kids at school. Lol People will buy what they like and what they can afford and the automakers know that. The Lightening is just another option for F150 customers to choose from and the reality is Ford can't build enough of them to satisfy demand.

    Its crazy everyone gets so caught up on towing long distances. Only a small portion of towing is long distances. A lot of people tow local and the Lightning tows great. If you need to simply tow your boat to the Lake or a contractor around town the Lightning tows better than any gas/diesel truck. Everyone gets upset over the one use case it does not work, but Ford sell 900,000 f150s a year with various uses. The f150 Lightning knocks it out of the park for most uses. I own one and its a fantastic vehicle.

    I've owned a 2017 F-150 Supercrew for about 3 years now. XLT, 4×4 and base (non-turbo) V-6. That engine even has more HP and TQ than a V-8 truck back when I was a young man in the '90's. I'm happy with it, but would like one of these if I could afford it. Living and working in the city, most of my driving is supposed and go, so extended range EV a charge would last me a couple of weeks. For a homeowner like myself that only occasionally uses the truck for dump or Home Depot runs this would be fine. That almost $100K pricetag is just too much. Great review folks, thanks!

That extra cost... i am getting back in gas everymonth. $50-60 is my extra cost per month on my electricity bill. Vs. $700 to $800 in gas.

When they rate Ford as a company, they use it as a whole company and this is why is lower. There is a reason why f150 is the most sold truck because it os reliable and fun to drive.

    Interesting review. I recently bought this truck with the standard battery. I reviewed my needs over and over again and it came to the following: Most driving that my wife would use it would be to the local groceries, pick up grand kids, no trips that would be over 300 km. I use it for yard work, mulch and general maintenance around the home. I travel with my MachE for longer trips. So really long trips would be either in the MachE or I would plan to do a couple of stops and enjoy the trip. 98% of the time would be under 100 km total trip. A friend of mine always said to never make 100% of a decision based on a 2% event. In Canada the government gives you $5,000 for the SR battery. The extended range battery cost $15,000 so the total cost of the battery becomes $20,000. 90 km for $20,000. Hmm, a bit steep for 2% of the time. Charge times can be 15 mins on a fast charger. Never go beyond 80% unless you have time to burn. So this configuration works great for us. My grand daughter asked me if I had rockets in the truck, so that speaks volumes.
    Let’s talk long term, the 1,000 mile battery has been developed, maybe 4 yrs till full mass production. So down the road the after market will hit the EV market with cheaper, long range batteries to replace the old tech. So this truck is a long play. The F150 has lots of aftermarket add ons already so you get that benefit already. What I am saying is that there is more to this truck and decision than what meets the eye. Too many comments come from people that do not know what they are saying and therefore form the opinions of others with incomplete facts.
    Lastly, I get average 25 kw/ 100 KM, this works out to 4 km/Kw. A Kw if charged at night is $.087 plus delivery charge. That is very cheap driving cost. Besides the fact you don’t have the smell of gas, noise or exhaust. Sounds like a win/win/win

    I've owned 3 Ford F150s and 1 Superduty with 3 of the 4 purchased new and I'll never buy a new one again. The pricing is now utterly ridiculous! A practical plug-in hybrid should have been Ford's priority with decent cold weather and towing range. 40 to 60kms of battery range for short commutes and daily activities with a 4 cylinder ICE to tow and when the mercury dips.

  • @RustyNutsGarage
    @RustyNutsGarage Год назад +40

    Form a driving expense I derived this from the video. 60-90% charge on a DC charger was $21. Standard range 370km x 30% = 111kms. F150 Hybrid 3.5 ecoboost rated at 9.8L/100km combined. Therefore 9.8 x 1.11 = 10.9L - regular gas in Alberta is around $1.25/L or less, $1.25x10.9L = $13.63. That is 37% less $ per KM with the hybrid. And... no towing limitations, no range limitation, you can run your tools, run your house. Hybrids are by far the better solution for a working truck at this time in my opinion.

      Correct, that’s assuming your ford has a relatively good kWh usage during winter months and trust me as an EV owner I’ll tell you that kWh usage below -20 is outrageous. Charging at home would be cheaper but you won’t be able to charge to 100% overnight and nevertheless EV trucks are a total nonsense. I own a Tesla and ram 1500 and each one of those have their own purpose and place on the market. Check hummer EV it costs twice as much to drive than it’s ICE cousin.

    I was fortunate enough to be an early reservation holder and got the first Lightning (Lariat ER) in Western NY early June 2022. I have 18,600 miles already (trouble free) and love the utility and versatility.
    I'll only towed 5k or less locally and towing performance is great but obviously as with all EV, aerodynamics is the deciding factor on how far you go.
    Pricing is high but I was in early when an every option Lariat ER was under $80k. One key feature vs a traditional half ton is the independent rear suspension. The ride is more full size body on frame SUV than pick up.
    Great road tripper as 270 miles at 70 mpg is doable and 320 around town. Charging curve is solid and will hold 170 kw for 10-15 mins and is always in triple figures until 80%.
    Overall, my far the most impressive vehicle I've owned and we've owned 40+ in our family since the mid 1980s.

    Trucks are not just for hauling long range. Granted, you don't want it if hauling long range until they have longer range batteries and more pull through charging locations. But there are tons of truck things this truck can do, and Ford did a nice job with it. A list of "truck things" I've done with a pickup truck in the last couple of years that didn't include any long range towing: towing a dump trailer in town, towing a pull behind auger in town, hauling large gravel, hauling pea gravel, hauling mulch, hauling scrap concrete to the dump, hauling generic garbage to the dump, hauling rentable equipment like compacters, hauling concrete sacks, hauling construction supplies from home improvement stores, moving furniture. That is a ton of stuff, most of which could not have been done without a pickup truck.

    I think the hybrid version is the best powertrain for the people who go on longer trips or tow loads any distance. It can save gas innthe city and that mobile power pack may be appealing.
    For the full ev. People who have their cottage/cabin fairly close to home. It should be able to do most daily driver duties with out a trailer no problem. If it had a stripped down work truck model it could be a good companion to a gas model on work sites. Work sites that don't require long hauls.

Lightening's on fire at Dearborn Assembly did create a "Stop Build" order until the battery issues can be investigated. Also in Oregon one of these was "bricked" at a charger and they have no idea what happened after taking it to a dealership. As a Ford owner for the last 5 vehicles Im exhausted with all the recalls on my 2021 Explorer ST, its at 5 now and counting. Ford's SYNC3 and SYNC4 is the most poorly executed automotive software available, their mobile App FordPass barely works 60% of the time. Time to look elsewhere for quality at these prices.

    I think this truck will appeal to a small segment of the population. Those who are:
    1. tech nerds
    2. have a household income of at least $300K
    3. have a husband that spends a good deal of time doing projects around the house and is therefore in the big box stores very often
    4. doesn't tow very often and when they do, again, it's power equipment from a big box store, less than 20 miles from their house
    I personally don't think there are enough people such as this, which is why this will always be a niche truck. Now since Ford produces so many other cars, this isn't an issue. There are companies like Rivian and Lucid, however, who are having major issues with sales. Simply put, not enough people are buying their incredibly expensive cars.

Also Im seeing these lightnings for sale for $69000 CAD, and you get a $9000 givernment incentive. So now were looking at $60,000 truck I can write off 100% of the cost of. 300km a day range with apparently the payload not having a detrimental affect on the range, unlike towing. However, we will definitely be investing in a Ford Lightning this year as we live in rural Canada and need to regularly power through lots of snow and ice and generally rough terrain - as well as move/haul heavy items that simply won't fit in a car or SUV. This is pretty typical with rural living (we currently use a Dodge Ram for this kind of stuff). Ford Lighting is perfectly suited to a rural lifestyle so I believe that's the main market.

    Towing range is mostly determined by the aerodynamics of the trailer, not so much the weight. Edmunds did a towing test with a 7,000 lb trailer and got 170 miles. In my case I tow 7,000-8000 lbs 25-30 times a year (at harvest time), but I only go around 40 miles (and back empty), so I could charge it over night and it would work perfectly (and cost a LOT less than gas). Now if they could just reduce the eye watering purchase price....

    Things to note. 1. Way to expensive for the average person. 2. XL (Pro) version not offered in Canada (Come on Ford Canada, get it together). 3. Range is sub par for a EV that costs this much. 4. Limited supply and long wait times to obtain even if you have the crazy money to spend on one. 5. As mentioned in the video, it's not capable of doing enough basic truck stuff without taking a massive hit on range. In Alberta this EV is great for urban areas where there is more charger density, but on the highways where the density is very low combined with sub par range this vehicle is a "No Go".
