    Love your channel and content. Gonna stick with my 09 Prius with 252K miles for now. I'm getting 48 MPG per tank. It's insane that the mpg is the window sticker amount all these years/miles later.

    I am happy with my 2024 Prius Prime XSE. Today (Jan 4, 2025) marks exactly 365 days since I took delivery. I have had incredible gas mileage because my circumstances are unique. I live close to free public charging. My home PV system produces excess electricity in daytime which I use rather than giving to the power company. Over the past year I have amassed 7,070 odometer miles (no long commutes).
    My car computer displayed 514 available gasoline miles on the full tank when I drove it off the lot. Today, the computer shows I have 122 miles left ON THE ORIGINAL TANKFUL. So, I have run the gasoline engine for 392 miles (averaging 33 gas engine miles/month).
    My public charging total was 488 kW. That has been free (or paid in some way by all our taxes).
    My home charging total was 1,268 kW, of which I bought 15.7 kW from the grid to test out night charging.
    Gas in Hawaii is expensive averaging $4.40/gal over the past year. So, the cost of the gasoline used from the tankful original supplied by the dealer amounts to $35.93. This calculation assumes I would have gotten the EPA estimate of 48 mpg. Do realize that I have yet to put any gas into the tank to make the actual calculation. (Side note: For those wondering, the computer will tell me when I need to add some fresh gas into the tank for good engine performance).
    Electricity in Hawaii is expensive, too. My utility bill rate averages about $0.40/kW. The kW I have purchased at home amounts to $6.28.
    My total propulsion cost for 7,070 miles has been $42.21 (35.93 + 6.28). Out of pocket, I spent only $6.28 for the first year. I spent more on windshield washer fluid. Been pretty pleased.

    In EV mode, you cannot the use the heat or AC without running the gas motor.

    • @TomLawlor-iq6gm
      @TomLawlor-iq6gm Месяц назад

      Not true. The Prius Prime has a heat-pump that provides heat or cooling without having to run the engine.
      The Prime can also provide heat/AC via the engine if you choose to "force" the engine to start while in EV Mode.

    Paying 10K$ upfront than other non hybrid ain't saving $$$ for gas...

      It is if you are keeping the car for more than 5 years (average driver). (That's not even considering the unreasonable extra higher resale value). (That's not even considering the better drive feel, for example, most people that prefer a more grounded car with heavy battery at the bottom)

    I will wait until they improve the driving cluster. Way too low. The steering wheel blocks it.

      I test drove the Subaru Solterra 2024 and the steering wheel was changed to a more square shape and it does improve visibility of the cluster. Got used to it quick but I know a lot of people just will find the styling of a square wheel odd

      @tommichaluk Месяц назад +3

      It’s a small diameter steering wheel. Once you get your seating height adjusted & wheel tilted, nothing is blocked!

      My wife is 5'7", I'm 5'11". Neither of us has any problem seeing the MID, in fact, we can both view not just the entire screen. We can see the sloped fascia in front of the cluster. All of it.
      The steering wheel and drivers seat have a multitude of adjustments. Put your seat-back up straighter, that's not a beach chair your sitting in
