About shinies. In my runs, I allow myself to use a shiny IF it’s the exact same as one of my previous Pokémon (ex. Raticate with guts replacing Raticate with guts) or if it’s my normal route encounter. If it’s neither, it gets a dedicated box and cannot be used. Unfortunately, no shinies yet so this is only a hopeful rule lmao Edit: he has almost the exact same rule lmao
I had never found a shiny in my first playthroughs, but when I was doing my SoulSilver Hardcore Nuzlocke I got a Shiny Goldeen, i think it's ok to use shinies as long as you don't cheat looking for them, just when you find them randomly
Editor out plays Jan at 7:25 “See what I did there Tyrone, I saved you from having to edit out the swear word and now you have to edit out this section of me talking about the swear word instead” Doesn’t have to edit the swear and just leaves Jan talking about it in. Well played.
Just opened the video, typing this during the ad. Can't wait for this educational case study in nuzlocking. I expect to play a lot of Gen 4 after BDSP drop so I look forward to learning from Ludwigs mistakes w/out judgement and applying them to my personal playthroughs.
I genuinely believe Ludwig throws a LOT of fights for content because sometimes he makes fantastic plays and plans really well, but then just fails to follow through on his own plans. Not saying he doesn't genuinely fuck up because my god he does, but he definitely throws at least 50% for content
I've encountered 4 shinies in 3 of my Gen 4 Nuzlockes (Platinum, Platinum Waterlocke, and SoulSilver), of which I caught 3 of them. One of them was a Graveler in the Waterlocke that exploded before I could catch it. :( The other three were a Tentacool in SoulSilver, a Bidoof and a Shellos in my current Platinum run, the Shellos now being a Gastrodon and on my team. I caught it almost immediately after starting to train up my regular Shellos, just after beating Commander Mars in Valley Windworks, so I replaced my regular with my Shiny. Bidoof was found while I was EV training an Aipom for Fantina because I didn't trust my Luxio to handle things. Because I lost my Roselia and Kricketune to an Ace Trainer's Haunter with Shadow Ball, Curse, Mean Look and Confuse Ray, and my Luxio got confused when he had to take it out, so I had to sac off my Kricketune to heal him so he could finish the battle. My Roselia died because I needed to heal my Luxio before Kricketune's death, because Roselia had the highest Sp. Def of my team, but then he got trapped by Mean Look, Cursed and Sp. Def dropped by Shadow Ball, and he only had Giga Drain to attack with, so I just had to watch him die, which was really heartbreaking, coz I really wanted to use a Roserade on my team. I found all of the shinies while I was grinding, either for levels or for EVs, or both. And I have NEVER encountered full odds shinies in my Gen 4 games before I started doing Nuzlockes. In my Black/White Nuzlockes, I only really grind on wild Audino though, so I probably only have a chance of encountering Shaking Spot shinies, not that I really want one of those... And I don't even need to EV train against wild Pokémon in Gen 6, when I can instead do Super Training, which is much faster. I've also only encountered 1 Shiny in gen 6 and 1 shiny in gen 7 and none at all in gen 8 yet, as well as none ever in gen 5. I will catch any Shiny Pokémon that I find, but I will only use those that will actually be helpful to me, like the Shellos.
@@aBlackMage Late, but. They're not pokemon experts by any means, and the kinds of questionable group decisions they made were occasionally amusingly questionable. They edited their Soul silver rom so Red used their champion team from Fire Red, which, while it definitely made it easier, was fun. Similar energy, but less chaotic than say, Alpharad's nuzlocke, with touches of their comedy and DBZ bits throughout. Iirc, they did a blind Moon nuzlocke that actually went pretty well, you could see their growth through that as they started to do things like consider getting crit, consider team members complementing eachother, and even do things like pivot, which was cool. Their fall from grace was their Emerald Nuzlocke, where they wiped to Winona, but instead of being transparent about it and continuing for the content or ending it, they tried to pass it off like it didn't happen. Some nutty sleuths noticed discrepancies between a few videos, and between that and the larger scale burnout they were facing as a content group as a whole, that was kinda the end of it. Kinda unfortunate, since they had actually built up a lot of collective skill, and seeing effective Nuzlocke by comittee was actually sorta novel; most good nuzlockers run solo, most groups are bad, but that's the fun of it.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 I remember they tried to justify trying to hide their wipe to Winona as “we’re trying to tell a story”. Which sure but if pokemon only die when you want to let them for the story, its not a nuzlocke
11:16 I do this too, got a shiny Golett in my X hardcore nuzlocke (yeah I know X is easy but it was my first hardcore) while grinding and my actual encounter on that route was a golett as well
I did an X hardcore nuzlocke and lost because i did some cheese rules. No megas. I had to be a level under gym leaders's highest level and i couldn't dedicatingly ev train i.e. i couldn't grind except on trainers. Let's just say the early game sucks
I don’t know if this is for everyone but I would never want to restart my nuzlockes when I lost because of all the grinding and the work but now that I use the rare candies after watching you I’m more inclined to restart my run and I find it a lot better actually
I actually have made a habit of saving before pivotal battles for this very reason. I haven’t needed to use it, but I struggle mightily with grinding through certain points of the game, let alone having to start over entirely
37:40 oh my god, this sets up the joke from Alpharad's perfect nuzlocke. He asks for what the song is. Finds out it's Ken's theme. Then he uses Ken's theme in one of his ads. THEN Alpharad uses the theme to parody Jan's ad. Then Jan notices that Alpharad used the song.
Oh that would be a train wreck. I watched their mono-dark Emerald nuzlocke and the constant blatant misplays and lack of game knowledge were really cringe. Like, if I'm watching a hardcore nuzlocke I want the person to know what they're doing. That guy couldn't even look at the summery screen to see what his pokemon's stats were (and didn't know about badge boosts anyway).
@@remydrouant49 I still found them entertaining, plus he wins most of them. Plus he watched the alpharad nuzlocke and Alpha sucked too. So I think he'd enjoy Silphs videos.
The best part of these videos is seeing peoples pronunciations for things. Actually this Ludwig dude is funny because he makes the goofiest decisions but still makes it through ( like the Black 2 run)
I love seeing the shiny clause that ludwig brought up because it reminds me of my shiny clause if it will ever happen, I give myself the option to permanently replace the encounter that was already there, but before I look at its stats, if the encounter I already had was dead, then I can't replace it
I just want to second that Enders Game is a fucking AMAZING short little novel. And if you liked that, then read Red Rising, my fave of that genre ever. Basically Ender + Hunger Games with a little Star Wars thrown in as it develops in scale.
Why Lud wasn’t using Politoed on that elite four team bewilders me, like, rain would make that team pretty insane and you could probably just pummel through resists
19:02 hmmmmm I don't know, in nuzlockes I kinda feel Shell/Battle Armor are better, in combo with some recovery/stall/setup. EK proved this point pretty clearly, right?
In application yes, never having to play around crits does offer a nice stall setup however just making 15/16 rolls do less damage also has a strong benefit for alot of the time. If you end up with 2 intimidates in a team then the switching racks up. I think that out of the box, intimidate has more useable uses sooner than the armour abilities but if you're playing around crits then it's not super useful
It really is a measure of knowledge with the lens/filter of Pokemon. Flare Blitz has recoil and it’s awesome when others rank their knowledge of it and they show you you’re a bit more knowledgeable
Here is my view on the Shiny clause: First off it depends on the game esp romhacks if the encounter rates are modded there is no shiny clause and even when the shiny clause is in effect I am not allowed to intentionally farm them. Also replacing pokemon with shiny versions is always allowed. Also there is no issue with catching all shinies even when the nuzlock rules would not allow for it but it just gets put into the pc and can't be used exept maybe for hms in older games but not in combat.
Jan always opening with "these reactions are meant to serve as an educational tool for you to get better" is the same as a teacher playing an educational movie in school
0:48 "Stop looking at me like that" Me having a buiscuit stuffed in the mouth like Po from Kung Fu Panda looking him straight into the eyes: "Please don't judge me.."
29:30 I did this during my 1st every Nuzlocke, which was in Leaf Green, where I lost alot of my good Pokemon right before Blaine's gym. But I was encounter planning from the beginning of the game, So I made sure that no matter what my Safari Zone encounter would've been a Dratini since I fished up all other Water type pokemon that could appear in the Safari zone. Was luckily enough to catch it so I didn't end up losing my run. I actually got to the champion with only Dragonite, Lapras, and Victreebell left, all died except Dragonite and it ended up clutching a 1v3 because Blue missed a Hydro Pump when my Dragonite was 1hp
I appreciate how little effort you put into that ad read. You know no one cares, You don’t even care. It was just something that everyone had to just get through for you to get that check. And I respect tf out of that
When you mentioned the shiny clause I felt like I should say that my shiny clause is the simple one of just replacing whatever living pokemon with the shiny (my clause for trade evos [when applicable] is that I can ignore dupes in a route and catch another pokemon in that evo line and release it to evolve the trade evo), HOWEVER, the only 2 shinies I got in nuzlockes (Also my only shinies in general) were first encounters. Shiny gastly in eterna forest I platinum, and shiny finneon in bdsp (was fishing for a finneon, unfortunately it died right before the e4 because Barry's torterra lived the ice beam) So basically I have a pretty simple shiny clause, it's just never came into effect.
I have my own rule for my Nuzlockes, which is "shiny may be dupes, but only 1 shiny per route", s i have a second counter for shinies per route, and 1 shiny per Pokemon line. I have been thinking about using shinies as resurrection for fainted ones, so costs me the shiny, but i dunno. Ludwig talking cool, but many of his pkmn faint in illogical ways, eh? I play randomized, so abilities cannot be planned out beforehand, unless i check the spoiler log. So i'd be lucky to not feel the 33% or lower HP buffs, but unlucky to fight an otherwise doable elite 4 team with huge/pure power on their physical attacker(s). And lately i started to force lvl 45 pokemon on trainers to be fully evolved. You know what's fun to use? Shuckle with dark/ghost types and shell/battle armor ability XD Super tank. No super effective moves and crits against it. Plus immune to 3 types. I play gen 3 still, btw... eventually gen 4. In the future i'll buff up trainers to the maximum of what the randomizer can do, and force all trainer pkmn being fully evolved at lowest level.
lets go, oras and legends arceus did it too, they straight rip the mechanics from the latest generation at the time and put it in the remakes, this isnt new.
@@galaxystudios370, yeah and according to him Ludwig was using vitamins all game too, so he'd always have max speed EVs. That makes any game WAY easier.
I didn't even realize you started using rare candies outside of EK, but I personally came to the same conclusion a few weeks ago lmfao. Almost exactly what Ludwig said BUT how do you feel about using vitamins like Lud here?
I’m pretty sure Renegade Platinum has an EV training center, so Vitamins were irrelevant. PC I’m pretty sure has said optimal EV training removes some of the challenge, even in the hard ROM hacks. Either way, probably the same logic as grinding. The resource is technically available to you and the only difference in the end result is the time invested on it. Anybody who thinks they have real beef takes things way too seriously.
PC: Makes fun of Ludwig's pronunciations
also PC: "This game makes you fight Cheren"
You had me at dinosaurs.
Noice
I was actually one of the starters in like the 4th run, I was banned for 3 months lol
I have to say, after watching so many people do normal and professional sponsors, I absolutely adore Jan's way.
Never change 👊
Disappointment: I was really curious how Jan would do a transition from dinosaurs to NordVPN...
Can we get a moment of silence for those lud silenced for months
Ludwig: "I can shove you into a locker"
Jan: "And I'll still be roasting your ass"
Jan, actually being a great teacher.
Also Jan: “Fuck you and your dreams :D”
I enjoy the use of "Ludwig, the Holy Blade" during the rival fight at Celestic Town.
Jan, I think after EK, you can proudly claim that you’re truly the best nuzlocker in the world.
Make those pokemon A.I.s tremble in fear!!!
About shinies. In my runs, I allow myself to use a shiny IF it’s the exact same as one of my previous Pokémon (ex. Raticate with guts replacing Raticate with guts) or if it’s my normal route encounter. If it’s neither, it gets a dedicated box and cannot be used.
Unfortunately, no shinies yet so this is only a hopeful rule lmao
Edit: he has almost the exact same rule lmao
I hate shinies so much. When I played renegade platinum I got 2 shiny encounters, a Starly and a Bidoof, before I even got Pokeballs.
Who?
I had never found a shiny in my first playthroughs, but when I was doing my SoulSilver Hardcore Nuzlocke I got a Shiny Goldeen, i think it's ok to use shinies as long as you don't cheat looking for them, just when you find them randomly
I played the Rocket edition romhack and found a shiny Geodude 10 minutes into the game, didn't have any balls :(
When?
Editor out plays Jan at 7:25
“See what I did there Tyrone, I saved you from having to edit out the swear word and now you have to edit out this section of me talking about the swear word instead”
Doesn’t have to edit the swear and just leaves Jan talking about it in. Well played.
To anyone wondering, the music that starts at 37:25 is Ken Stage from Smash Bros. Ultimate
THANK YOU
Just opened the video, typing this during the ad. Can't wait for this educational case study in nuzlocking. I expect to play a lot of Gen 4 after BDSP drop so I look forward to learning from Ludwigs mistakes w/out judgement and applying them to my personal playthroughs.
Beedrill’s platinum sprite looks like it’s ready to throw hands.
Ludwig explaining how he isn’t cheating by getting his Dratini through dupes clause, as if it wasn’t his second Eterna City encounter.
The other three were a Tentacool in SoulSilver, a Bidoof and a Shellos in my current Platinum run, the Shellos now being a Gastrodon and on my team.
Would be pretty dope to see you get a shiny Zangoose, ngl
Now I'm curious on PC's views on Team Four Star's infamous nuzlockes. Especially the Soul Silver one.
I've never seen any of them, what's so bad about them? Just terrible decisions and little game knowledge?
@@aBlackMage
They're not bad. It's just they ended up having a burn out in their later nuzlockes.
Omg cant wait for Mr.Stake 😭 i really hope he'll review it
@@aBlackMage
Late, but.
I was waiting for Nord VPN to be the sponsor, and I was waiting for the connection between dinosaurs and Nord VPN
Guess you could say that burning the Machamp... Really took Guts
love how at 20:20 he was playing the song that plays when you fight Ludwig the accursed in bloodborne
@@kimyona9746 how did you get around the scripted mega lucario fight
@@ebinburington9737 i said i lost
@@kimyona9746 oh i thought you did multiple runs my bad
I don’t know if this is for everyone but I would never want to restart my nuzlockes when I lost because of all the grinding and the work but now that I use the rare candies after watching you I’m more inclined to restart my run and I find it a lot better actually
I actually have made a habit of saving before pivotal battles for this very reason. I haven’t needed to use it, but I struggle mightily with grinding through certain points of the game, let alone having to start over entirely
23:10 man the Ender's Game books were sooo damn good!
You should react to a RUclipsr named SilphSpectre videos, he has a bunch of nuzlocke recaps by playing through a single type, pretty cool to watch.
This or AntlerBoyLive, he is the king of narration
@@diode_wow yeah he's good to but I like spectre more because his vids are typically longer, but yeah either are great.
Yes I’ve been watching his videos and love them
@@remydrouant49 I still found them entertaining, plus he wins most of them.
At 37:14 the Avengers theme on kazoo going straight into Ken's theme from Street Fighter was so hype and hilarious 😂
Ive played pokemon my whole life and you have just taught me what stab means😂
37:35 in case anyone was wondering what the song was 2 years later it's a remix of Street Fighter 2 Clamato Fever
Now we need a rom that has Jan as the champion with the hardest difficulty
Imagine though jan's pivots and strats on an AI AND the use of items
@@stalinglad IKR IMAGINE HOW DIFFICULT THAT FINAL BATTLE AGAINST JAN WOULD BE
First thing I thought when i saw his vid was “Yep, PCHAL content”
I am unhealthily obsessed with PChal saying "You dumb f*ck." at 15:14
HONEY WAKE UP, NEW PC UPLOAD !!!!!
If this is just renegade platinum, that Marshtomp sweeps this gym with an expert belt...
This is easier than Renegade Platinum, a lot of Trainers were changed to not have wide movepools and Gyms only had 5 Pokemon instead of 6

29:10 easily the funniest shit I've seen since the pandemic started
Renegade platinum Eevee: evolve it after level 22 (learns wish) into Umberon. Absolute god.
They tried to replace Cynthia, but she wasn't having it
29:30 I did this during my 1st every Nuzlocke, which was in Leaf Green, where I lost alot of my good Pokemon right before Blaine's gym.
That fucking Chrono Trigger background music I heard is amazing.
Shiny gastly in eterna forest I platinum, and shiny finneon in bdsp (was fishing for a finneon, unfortunately it died right before the e4 because Barry's torterra lived the ice beam)
So basically I have a pretty simple shiny clause, it's just never came into effect.
28:56 Ludwig quietly shitting himself here is so funny
The sponsored part of Jan's videos are so awkward that their great
They're the best kind of awkward though
In his last box view you can see he has a Politoed. If it has Drizzle he probably should've brought that for a bit more of a rain team
37:40 its Kens theme from SF II
jan has actual good youtube intros now, i feel like a proud dad
“Fairy type Pokémon in a gen four game!”
Bdsp: huh. We should do that.
lets go, oras and legends arceus did it too, they straight rip the mechanics from the latest generation at the time and put it in the remakes, this isnt new.
I like how Ludwig says the game was made harder in the start, and at the end Jan says the game was toned down and made easier, LOL.
Pretty late reply, but Jan was comparing it to vanilla RenPlat.
@@galaxystudios370, yeah and according to him Ludwig was using vitamins all game too, so he'd always have max speed EVs. That makes any game WAY easier.
"You can always get magikarp for free"
Black & White would like to have a word with you
I didn't even realize you started using rare candies outside of EK, but I personally came to the same conclusion a few weeks ago lmfao.
Go for what makes the run more fun for you.
