You’re right. People need to build endurance for running. I once was followed by some dude from a park all the way to my neighborhood which was 2 miles away. He tried to keep his distance thinking I didn’t notice him. Every corner I would sprint to create more distance but I would get tired easily because I was not used to it. That taught me that I need to built endurance if ever I’m a situation like that again so I can out run anyone.

Note from Physicist: You get best torque (leverage) at the bad guy's wrist. Don't mess with his elbows unless that's all you can get to. Prefer to control from the wrist. Use the torque to your advantage. Break bones if able. Moving any bone in a direction it's not supposed to go (almost) always gives you control.

That is a very dangerous approach. You need to get outside the line of attack while simultaneously hitting ( not blocking ) his arm. Once you hit the arm, stopping the momentum of the attack, you can roll to grab the wrist and palm up behind the elbow. Look at Ptk knife tapping from a qualified Ptk Smf instructor.

Couldnt you also move to the outside while doing the 2-on-1? Why would you want to stay in front of him to allow his continued attack? You might even be able to get away from his left hand. He would have to turn to get you. “Prison style” also means they like to grab your hair or clothing with that left hand. Just a thought.

    • @marknalberta
      @marknalberta 10 месяцев назад

I think the reaction of the attacker might be to raise the blade if one were to move to the outside which would bring it closer to your face but I'm not an expert. And/or then the blade could be coming down at you from above. I was just visualizing how I would react if I was going to be the attacker.
It seems like once you've gained a grip on the arm that the best thing to do would be to turn into them and spin for a lack of a better word thereby using their own momentum against them. I don't know.

I use a similar move with my Gutter Fighting classes in the UK. The only slight difference is I find the move more reliable when my hands a connected with the thumbs along the inside of the opposite hand. Against a right handed stab, I put my left hand uppermost. This creates a funnel for the attackr's wrist to be guided in to. If anyone is new to this stuff, remember the emphasis is on grasping the attacker's wrist instantly, not just blocking. I often follow up with a takedown, stepping behind the opponent. In the case of a right-handed stab, I step my right foot behind, close to his leg and take his right hand toward the opponent's left side and downwards. If his left foot was forwards, simply pull his wrist to make him step again with his right leg, making the takedown easier.

In my opinion , head-butt , knee , pushing into while grappling at eyes and ears , is a good mind-set in this prison-style attack scenario .
It is true , in my experience and my opinion , that both hands of a defendant should be available to nuetralize both hands of the assailant .
I agree that using both hands against one hand can result in the attacker usi g the other hand for a powerful , brutal , and immobilizing head strike against the defender .
    You are the defender .

Keep in mind that most people are not fully ambidextrous. So while a punch or hit from an attacker's secondary hand will certainly be coming, it won't necessarily be as much of a threat or accurate or as devastating as their primary hand.
But as you note, you have counterattacks that can be used, but those have to be implemented quickly and they MUST be practiced to ensured they'll be done automatically without thinking about it or freezing.

Yup, you know what your talking about, unlike alot of knife defense guys. I really respect that you confront the realism of possibly getting cut or worse in a confrontation. In our Sambo, we would do knife defense drills from time to time, but with wash off markers, white shirts, and goggles. If anyone does this. Theyl realize the super fancy stuff doesn't work, and controling the knife arm until you can get a take down or sufficient strike is what matters. It's all about speed more than anything, and your %100 about the head strikes being very, very effective. Mma would be very different if there were no gloves allowing for easier palm strikes, and if they allowed head strikes like combat sambo. Even a noggin to the liver in guard can end a fight on the ground. Can't do that in mma. Toughest thing is dealing with a guy that knows how to switch hands good doing this drill. That's a nightmare, but takes practice, and ofcourse when they feint with one hand after pretending to pass it than come in quick with the other hand. As you said though, most inexperienced goons will just go for the basic medial attack with a blade up grip. Most effective thing iv seen our seniour guys do, that nobody suggests on youtube, is actually where you push into them for a brief moment, only with arm strength, just to make them begin to push back, just basic judo, and once you feel them do that, you than pull and swing their arm to their outside (arm swinging towards their back, rather than across chest to other arm.) About %80 through the swinging motion, you begin to lean back at 45 degrees, or whatever you really need, to brace your foot up, catchi g their stomach or hips, and do a tomoe nage (tahmoh eh Nah Gey) throw, sending them over you. It's possible swinging the arm towards the inside to, the only issue is if you don't brace your foot on their hips, and hit his legs instead, theyl most likely buckle onto you, rather than flip over you. Only issue is this takes alot of experience and practice, and is also extremely dangerous, and risky since if the knife arm came back your way while coming down, itd be big trouble. Great video in detailing the basics and keeping it practical. I love seeing realistic and honest solutions to this sort of stuff.

Never try to grab the knife hand or any hand. Sure way to get stabbed as the instructor says. And never with both hands. In his example the attackers left arm and hand were completely free to punch the guy to the head or throat, then follow through with the knife. A better defense is to redirect the stabbing while sidestepping the attacker. Basic karate with a forearm shiver redirecting the stabbing arm while sidestepping the attacker and ending up shoulder to shoulder with the attacker off balance and open to a head shot or as one poster said, just take off running.
Trying to grab an arm or hand in motion is like trying to catch a bullet. Great if you're that quick but chances are you won't be.

@ jason, seems like you have never been in knife attack, what makes you think the attacker will always keep giving stabs in the same direction where you are blocking . why do you think after block he will still stab in the same direction where you blocked. Rather he can change direction and stab on neck and this time he would be more agressive. You are talking about holding with 2 arms around forearm gives greater control with c clamp grip, i bet you will realise once you do in real stress and confusion and heartbeat reaching high. This provided solution is not practical . Ask any kali guy how easily he can rip off your hands the moment you block it. So control is the first and foremost on the attacking limb then give pain , destroy etc. Think like an attacker to get the real counter solution that works and gives higher probability for survival.

    Psalms 23: 4-5
    4. Yea though I walk through the valley and shadow of death I will fear no evil: thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
    5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Now listen closely brother before you go looking this up in the Bible think and reflect upon these two verses and then go into the Bible. It's up to you on how you want to do it but if you reflect upon it and meditate on it it'll bring a greater understanding to you for what you're looking for.

GUYS....when EVERY attendee is an elderly complete rookie you RUN from that "instructor"....this guy proves himself to be a fraud so often...working for an agency is not the same as having elite level combat skills...RARELY does a CIA officer get involved in any scenario where his or her life in danger...and that's from other CIA officers....if you can't tell this guy is a fraud then you need to at least RUclips more and see what actual skilled fighters and self-defense practitioners look like and move like...all the real ones will gladly take on an unscripted opponent and record the match to prove they have combat skills, and the control required to fight someone without maiming them....every single sport from boxing, to wrestling, to MMA all has sparring and the ability to show their skill without hurting the other person....this guy will NEVER do that, because he doesn't have the combat skills or actual experience....he's selling entertainment.

Fair fight my ass, someone is trying to hurt/kill me the gloves come off. If it comes down to 5 on 2 so be it. Reality is from experience I’d step back and off to side as I draw my concealed carry and stopping the threat. If weapon for reason misfires or jambs well it’s hand to hand time with inoperative pistol. I’ve got hit with a gun before and damn if it didn’t hurt and distract me. Biting pulling hair eye gouges throat punches/chop anything in my favor.
