Great video, Larry. I’ve been with TDCJ since 2019. I started at a men’s maximum security unit (Hughes unit), and now at a female maximum/death row unit. I’ve found that the women are all about making someone ugly. So they like razors more than anything. They’ll make what we call a “rake”. It will have 3 razor blades melted into the end of a toothbrush, and really opens the face up. We have a female inmate that cut pockets into her skin to hide her razors. Some hide them in the top part of their cheek because it’s high and kind of hard to see. It’s good to see you got out and really doing something with your life. Much love from Texas 🤙

I work in a mental health secure unit, and the prison’s you’ve been in are so much less strict in comparison in regards to contraband items, I’m actually surprised! Obviously the patients still find ways to get creative sometimes, but they don’t have access to most of these items, and are usually supervised when they do, and any security items are ALWAYS counted back in exactly after it’s time to return it, if every single item isn’t in then a ward search will be done straight away. Usually they’ll just use their own fists for violence as it’s less effort (or blunt objects if they can find any). That being said, they still manage to cause a lot of damage that way!

Larry, could you pay for protection in prison. I mean, other than favors or services. Like say a guy who had money was sent to prison. Could he pay a prison gang or some other prison tough guy money to give him protection. Maybe pay the cons family on the outside?
I spent two years in prison, used a razor comb in self defence and I’ve used other kinds of shanks, but in England the most common material for a shank is plastic as it’s easy to get hold of, all you need is heat and we had lighters and it doesn’t trip the metal detectors. I remember every plastic chair you had in the prison I was in had the plastic on the inside of the leg removed and you knew someone made a shank out of it, but it also meant you had to be careful when sitting on those chairs.
100% yes, at least in the US. But we're talking PRISON, not jail. Generally, in the US, prisons are only for inmates who couldn't afford/weren't allowed to bond out of jail, AND were either facing a crime that would likely result in a sentence of over a year, or had already been convicted and had at least a year left of time to do. Some county (or even city) jails can be/are this bad in the worst parts of the country, but in the wealthier/less gang-infested areas, city and county jails are usually just fist fights or I guess group beat downs on 1 or 2 people with fists. This is the first vid I've ever seen from Larry, but I'm sure he talks about how to make "armor"/arm or perhaps neck protection from stuff like packed thick magazines with or without plastic inserts. That's more for for if you know ahead of time you'll be jumped though. Thankfully I've never been to prison because of law school experience/knowing my rights when I was young and dumb, and I wasn't doing anything remotely violent, in plain view, breaking more than one...infraction at a time, etc. But I previously knew dumber, mostly hot-headed loose associates who've done 3, 4, 5ish year stints for the stupidest shit ever, and had to live the type of life this guy talks about. If you're committing crime that you can't 80%+ guarantee, as a first offender, will only result in a bond you can afford, followed by either only house arrest or a misdemeanor
I use to use tape and a toothbrush or combs and melt it down and sharpen it, no metal and no one thinks anything you got a toothbrush or comb/pick in you pocket. Can carry around but a razor best for pod. Tooth brush work good too, bristols hide the blade mostly you do it right.
Proud of you for getting put of the cycle of prison an roffending! Love your cooking videos, I've even tried a few! This was a great insight into the inventive process of necessity being the mother of invention. Hope no one needs this video... if you do... well, be safe and I hope you don't need these weapons! God bless!
I heard a story from a friend of mine that was a prison guard and he ended up finding a small furnace and a small Anvil and Hammer inside of one of the inmates cells the dude had busted off a small plate from his bed it was small enough that you wouldn't have noticed it missing but it was big enough that he could have actually used it as a blacksmith anvil he made a Hammer with a bottle cap and I don't know what else he used for the Hammer cuz they wouldn't give information about the hammer my guess is it was actually bigger than it was described to me cuz it was described as being the same size as a small cell phone with a bottle cap as the main part where you would like hit a nail with it or use it to smash someone's head you used it with this anvil in this little furnace that he made out of cardboard and insulation don't get me wrong it sounds like it would never work but it turned out the little furnace actually works perfect for some unfathomable reason this prison in the walls had this little thing of insulation that was Fireproof I have no idea how but this dude took a good chunk of the insulation and turned it into a box and then used glue and cardboard around it with wire to keep it held strong little anvil out of bottle caps what it was pretty cool and I figured out what he was doing he was making little figurines out of random bits of scrap metal that he was able to get from his yard time and he was selling them around the prison little figurines for the inmates to have entertainment it's surprisingly kept the peace until they took his little Anvil and Forge from him then a week later over thirteen people were shankd cuz all these little figurines were taken out of their block i remember when my buddy told me about this i was like there's no way you actually found that and he should me a picture it was the most weird looking thing but so cool at the same time

"Alright nick. Can I get your help"
Proceeds to stab nick with all the weapons.
"Thanks for helping me Nick"
was thinking this the whole time 😂
22:56
"Aight Nick, I need your help. Can you come'ere?"
*shanks Nick for demonstration purposes*
I like to think I make good choices but if I ever do end up in prison I feel like I'd last at least 3 days because of Larry's videos.
The one we’ve all been waiting for
Happy you liked it! maybe part two coming soon! please share around I'd appreciate it !
This one and the prison pasta and pizza videos are the greatest 3 videos on youtube.
I use to use tape and a toothbrush or combs and melt it down and sharpen it, no metal and no one thinks anything you got a toothbrush or comb/pick in you pocket. Can carry around but a razor best for pod. Tooth brush work good too, bristols hide the blade mostly you do it right.
Gotta love how Nick just flinches everytime hopin it’s not gonna be the one time he demonstrates on him instead of the cardboard lol
Proud of you for getting put of the cycle of prison an roffending!
Love your cooking videos, I've even tried a few!
This was a great insight into the inventive process of necessity being the mother of invention.
Hope no one needs this video... if you do... well, be safe and I hope you don't need these weapons!
God bless!
These things are not just prison things... But once a zombie apocalypse hits, we'll be ready thanks to Larry.
That was awesome! Thanks for the info.
I heard a story from a friend of mine that was a prison guard and he ended up finding a small furnace and a small Anvil and Hammer inside of one of the inmates cells the dude had busted off a small plate from his bed it was small enough that you wouldn't have noticed it missing but it was big enough that he could have actually used it as a blacksmith anvil he made a Hammer with a bottle cap and I don't know what else he used for the Hammer cuz they wouldn't give information about the hammer my guess is it was actually bigger than it was described to me cuz it was described as being the same size as a small cell phone with a bottle cap as the main part where you would like hit a nail with it or use it to smash someone's head you used it with this anvil in this little furnace that he made out of cardboard and insulation don't get me wrong it sounds like it would never work but it turned out the little furnace actually works perfect for some unfathomable reason this prison in the walls had this little thing of insulation that was Fireproof I have no idea how but this dude took a good chunk of the insulation and turned it into a box and then used glue and cardboard around it with wire to keep it held strong little anvil out of bottle caps what it was pretty cool and I figured out what he was doing he was making little figurines out of random bits of scrap metal that he was able to get from his yard time and he was selling them around the prison little figurines for the inmates to have entertainment it's surprisingly kept the peace until they took his little Anvil and Forge from him then a week later over thirteen people were shankd cuz all these little figurines were taken out of their block i remember when my buddy told me about this i was like there's no way you actually found that and he should me a picture it was the most weird looking thing but so cool at the same time
this was very interesting to learn about crazy how resourceful the inmates are
Got to do what you got to do
I'm a CO, and I learn a lot from Larry
