You seem to be making the game I've been thinking about in my head for a while now but can't be bothered to make myself so I am really excited to play this. Please, please finish it and release. At your own pace obviously but don't give up. It looks like a great game. Best of luck with it.
I had a similar idea, but you play as a demon who is disguised as a human and takes out a kingdom from the inside, and it’s a dungeon crawler and every kingdom is a “floor”
The game looks pretty cute and really interesting to play, kinda reminds me of Magicite with this dancing animation style. Also, would recommend you making a theme song with 8bit style too, it combines perfectly with the game aesthetics. Much love from Brazil
This looks so awesome so far! I love the art style you ended up with, and the animations on the music is going to give this a really unique feel! Great job! - Foster
This is actually really inspiring for me who is just starting my game dev journey and want to create something similar to what you are creating one day, thanks for the great content and keep it up!
Awesome work, soo much progress already. Keep it up, man. I know first hand trying to work on a game with a full-time job is difficult. Art is great too.
Just keep going! I’ve been using unity for a total of about 5 years now so I have lots of practice.. when I first started, this probably would have taken me over a year. Don’t feel bad! 😊
@@WattDesigns that makes sense as to why your game looks incredible and almost finished! I got like what 5 months experience in my game engine. And not really a programmers as well. I got tons to learn and hope to use it to motivate me
Imgur says hi! The "moving when your enemy moves" thing reminds me of a little game called Sproggiwood. Had some fun with that, so this is looking interesting. Wishlisted! :D
Thanks! I did 500 daily drawings where I’d take a prompt and do a 100x100 pixel art drawing each day. If you scroll back far enough on my Instagram you’ll be able to see all of them 😊
This is a really cool and original idea! Will there be options on what race of monster you play (I love how you can play a little goblin ❤️)? I particularly like the idea of the effects that the new humans have on the environment. You’ve done a great job so far and I’m excited about what’s to come! No rush though, Making a game is hard work!
Thanks! I’d love to have different monsters you can play as with different strengths and weaknesses to help add replayability, and of course it would be fun to be able to customize them. I’m saving that for later, but I’m excited to get there!
@@WattDesigns Its great to hear that you want to add different lil monsters! Customizable characters would also be awesome! The different strengths and weaknesses would be a great addition in my opinion as well! Creature specific skills would be a cool addition if you don’t mind me sharing ideas! Such as a faster type creature being able to click the skill before moving and move one free block before returning to the original order (kinda like a dash I guess?). Of course this is just brainstorming so don’t feel pressured at all to include any of these ideas! I’ll like the end result no matter what!
7:32 Hi, I would like to ask how you made the animations with/without Armor on. Did you draw the Armor animations separately and then overplayed it over the body sprite?
I’m layering, they’re all pretty much the same animator being told to do the same thing. And they’re on different sorting layers so they show over each other. Then whenever I change the outfit, I restart the animations. That way they don’t ever get out of sync. I’ll consider adding a tutorial!
Sprite sheet! Each piece of armor is on a separate sorting layer, and I give it the exact same animation controller as the player. Then if I ever make the player animate, I animate all the armor at the exact same instant so you can’t tell that they’re overlaid
Thanks! This is about 2 months of work 😊 and if you meant the video, it was about 7 hours of drawing/capturing the video clips, and however long it took Mike to edit (7 more hours maybe?)
@@WattDesigns That is awesome. You have made the same progress I have, but in about a 1/6 of the time! It is also nice to know, how much time the video took to create, mine are horrible in comparison. I do not know, if I should invest so much time in that. You are lucky to have Mike with you :D
Since you have slimes as enemies are you planning to make them products of pollution? I guess it would make sense for evil gross goey monsters to be created from waste
Yeah I love that idea, pollution and like sewage. And then maybe the pollution also makes the local (less intelligent) monsters more crazy and angry, like wolves and such. It would be boring if the whole game was just fighting humans all the time
Hey! Well done! I really liked your art and the game feel. Keep it up! Regarding the unity's in-built input system, I guess they have introduced the new input system, which does seem to be more flexible and might suffice for your needs. Do check it out! Brackeys and Jason Weimann have nice tutorials on the new input system.
@@WattDesigns Thank you! Watching your Goblin Island vids is what's convinced me that maybe I can make a game, too. Haven't done pixel art in years, though, so... this'll be interesting, haha Eta: crap it's $20 lol
I had looked into it, but wanted a bit more control over animations and how the tiles connect to other tiles, along with how they refreshed if the tile so changed. Since I wanted everything to be able to move on beat in a synchronized way it was easier to just do it from scratch. In hindsight I probably could have modified the existing rule tile stuff, but Matt of 2 months ago wasn’t as confident 👀… or smart, look at that disgusting train of “If”s lmao But thanks for pointing it out! I love to hear about stuff that I may have missed
This is awesome! It's so great to see other indie devs out there. If I may suggest, and I could just be an idiot, but maybe shooting arrows should be instant and just cover a 3 space length? Then having limitations to arrows would make maybe a fun dynamic with the extra power but limitations for a bow. Anyway, I'm excited to see more! Also, if you're interested, I am also a developer myself and am working on a souls like game. Check us out! :)
Yeah I like the idea, I think I’ll try mocking up both and seeing how it goes 🤔 these kinds of decisions are the most difficult for me, it’s sometimes tough to know what will be more fun. Keep up the good work with your project!
This looks so promising! Take as much time necessary, if this ever comes out we’ll patiently wait for the final product!
1:53 these characters look really cool, makes me want to learn pixel art
Sold! Finally I can play as a sneaky Goo-blin and fight off stinking intruders.
You seem to be making the game I've been thinking about in my head for a while now but can't be bothered to make myself so I am really excited to play this. Please, please finish it and release. At your own pace obviously but don't give up. It looks like a great game. Best of luck with it.
In the same boat. Got a full time job and other side projects, but promising myself to spend 30 mins a day on my dream game always turns into longer!
Rewatching the way logs for inspiration on a game I will never make
This is awesome! I look forward to playing the finish product. Can’t wait for the next video update on the game!
Awesome dude! It’s really cool to hear your insight on the design choices. Looking forward to the next update!
I had a similar idea, but you play as a demon who is disguised as a human and takes out a kingdom from the inside, and it’s a dungeon crawler and every kingdom is a “floor”
Nvm it’s not similar at all lol the only similarity is that the protagonist isn’t who you expect
Yay Matt!!!! Tom and I so excited to watch your journey. You are so talented and happy that you are following your dreams!
The game looks pretty cute and really interesting to play, kinda reminds me of Magicite with this dancing animation style.

Much love from Brazil
The mechanic where the arrow moves when you move is amazing. It really clicked with me. Good Job!
I've watched quite a few game devlogs, and I think this may be the most impressive #1 episode so far. Very promising, great job!
The last bit really hits me and thanks for the advice!
This looks great so far! I love how the characters look. Looking forward to more :D
This looks so awesome so far! I love the art style you ended up with, and the animations on the music is going to give this a really unique feel! Great job!

It's cool how considerate you are for beginners when explaining things.
I do think it would be a good idea to have a “wait” button so you don’t have to move to make enemies move
_came from instagram after seeing one of your post on my explore, this was really cool watch. good luck with the game development_ :)
Man this looks awesome I will buy it when you post it in steam. I hope you will reach 1 million in a few months

This is awesome! Good luck dude!
Been a fan of the instagram page u manage. amazing to see you transitioning to game dev. the pixel art is looking great too!
Thanks for sticking around!
I love the concept of the bow where the arrow move’s when you do.all in all this is a good game can’t wait to see the second devlog.
Let's freaking go dude!! I'm pumped to see your work, it looks really great so far!
God I fucking love you. Keep up the good work love
Really cool man, looking out for more of your content!
I really like the way the bow works. I think it will be an entertaining game play style.
You've inspired me! I'm buying this game as soon as you can manage to finish it.
great video. looking forward for this
Looking forward to watching dev logs for this until you finish!
Holy sh**. This is looking amazing, man!
This looks like a fantastic start for your game. I love the inspiration you've taken from necrodancer, adding a unique level of strategy.
Time to rewatch this series again until another dev log comes out B)
Damn. Already looking more polished than most. That was a great devlog.
Oh man so much I can learn from this!! Fantastic job I can't wait for more
Looks interesting allready. Great stuff!
This is very cool, I'll definitely be watching the rest! Good job, so talented in the art.
Cool stuff man! I really dig the animation style. Looking forward to further updates! Keep it up!

looking good man!
So glad this vid was recommended to me, can't wait to see how it goes👍
Unity contains a built in solution for your tile map adjacency handling, to place the right sprites based on adjacent tiles.
I really like your pixel art style. Can you please tell me what is the canvas size you used for the sprites
Dang only a hundred subscribers? I’ll be sticking around ‘till you get popular so I can make the “I’m one of the OGs” flex
Oh okay so devlog #1... basically a whole game ready to go. Humph! Makin me feel bad about my very slow progress on my own game.

such a nice artstyle
I like your character design, very goblin

On one hand I'm happy to see a game with goblin as a main character
good luck with your project
Great advice at the end! Game looks superb :)
Can’t wait🔥🔥
Welcome to the world of devlogs! :)
Happy to be here! I love your stuff, keep up the good work!
I love your devlogs
Looks beatiful, youre a beast
subbed at 0:45
You should add a feature a challenge that you should protect the temple it matches perfectly
Love it. Subbed. Can't wait to watch progress.
Cool! Looking forward to the next one
Yes and the humans are probably the "heros" of a game. 0:41
Great work!
Man im right there with you
You could make dungeons to farm and get items and add some bosses like albion online it could be interesting :)
Love your work and all that you've documented here for us. What did you mean when you referred to 'daily start on instagram' 1:46?
Thanks! I did 500 daily drawings where I’d take a prompt and do a 100x100 pixel art drawing each day. If you scroll back far enough on my Instagram you’ll be able to see all of them 😊
Woah awesome art man
Starting out from the beginning
“We will watch your career with great interest...”
so underrated
Holy shit, looks really really nice. Please finish this ;)
Yo Im super curious how your custom tile script work, you did'nt use unity's tilemap at all?
Ha, my movement based system works exactly the same way. Game looks good.
Wow man this is awesome! This isn't really my type of game yet I'm already sucked in on the art style and wanting to play anyway
This is awesome!
Hey great devlog! I’m not sure if it says anywhere, but I was wondering what software you use for your pixel art?
Thanks! I use Aseprite 😊
AMAZING i LOVE it

Yep! That’s what I did 😊
@@WattDesigns thanks
Please do a video on how you equipped armor, are they completely different sprites or are you layering?
I’m layering, they’re all pretty much the same animator being told to do the same thing. And they’re on different sorting layers so they show over each other. Then whenever I change the outfit, I restart the animations. That way they don’t ever get out of sync.
I’ll consider adding a tutorial!
@@WattDesigns thanks! Haven’t come across a good tutorial so it would be much appreciated ☺️
