I just got vibrato and freaked myself out being able to do!!! I thought I would never be able to vibrato!! Glad no one else was in the house though 🙂 you are a really good teacher (funny too).
This is LITERALLY the only video on RUclips to explain the natural vibrato and fake vibrato differences. I’m guilty of doing the fake vibrato lol because that’s how I always thought to do it. But nobody explains any of this.
THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE I always have vibrato when I am running out of breath but I can't seem to do it otherwise. With this video along with the Power to Sing videos I finally understand what vibrato really is, how it should feel, and how to get it. Thank you!
I never knew what vibrato was until a woman at church told me I had a beautiful vibrato. I finally decided to look this up to see what it is. Now I will work on contolling it and being more relaxed more of the time. Thank you!
I've been a deathcore vocalist for about 15 years, and I occasionally did clean singing. Everyone told me I had a very nice singing voice but I never really played with it much until recently. Deathcore vocals are very difficult to learn, and I thought I had a pretty excellent command over my voice until I started trying to ACTUALLY sing. I have to relearn fundamentals lol. This was a great tutorial, easy to understand and emulate. Much appreciated. I'm working on a Sleep Token cover for "Are you really okay" and their vocalist is a master with Vibrato so this is a great start.
After a few of your videos and doing the exercises, I was finally able to control my vibrato - for the first time! I have a great sounding vibrato but could never control when I produced it. I suddenly had an Aha! moment and nearly cried. Thank you so much!! I have a lot of practice ahead of me but I at least know what control feels like and will keep replicating to master it. 😊❤
I think I found it! My natural vibrato! The "voice flying away from you' image and the constant reminder not to fall into 'gunshot vibrato' really helped! Im new to singing, so for now it feels like a baby chicken I need to nourish, but hearing it for the first time was amazing. Thank you so much! :D
You deserve a raise! I've just had vibrato for the first time! I'm so tense and was so nasal and you've helped me! Remotely at that! You are truly phenomenal, do you have a Patreon? I couldn't say I have the time to attend a class, but my job allows me to hear your lessons through headphones. I do the exercises in my car in-between accounts, but you are the first person in a long time that has brought truly valuable lessons to me. Thank you, sincerely.
Thank you so much! I'm so happy that I can help you. Rather than donate, I recommend that you get my audio program! www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/order-victorias-victorious-vocal-exercise-program/ However, if you would like to support the channel, you can donate at: paypal.me/VictoriaVocal?locale.x=en_US
I have natural vibrato but it tends to go away only when I try recording it... And I've been wondering why for years. When I was practicing after watching this video I realized, my shoulders get tense when I'm recording! I tried again while keeping in mind that relaxed feeling and it worked!! I'm so grateful for this, I've only watched a handful of your videos but they've helped me so much with breath control and now vibrato!
I'm really grateful I accidentally encounter your channel. I've been watching a lot of vocal exercises and advices from different coaches here in RUclips for years now but I'm still stuck. Fortunately, I found yours and you gave me a different perspective of vocals and not just doing random exercises and said to magically upgrade your voice. Your videos are fun and informative, I always enjoy watching your videos. Though I still have a long way to go but I can see some improvements in my vocals thanks to "Victoria's, Victorious Vocal Tips" (I always go along with these lines every time I watched your videos😅)
Two things that I discovered while learning vibrato (from you of course 😉) I had to record myself and listen for it, using my phones voice recorder app. When I got in my head during a song, I simply walked from my kitchen to my living room while singing. This helped me get out of my own way. Once I accomplished learning how to hear my vibrato and releasing the tension by walking to get out of my way, I was able to get better and better. Now I can stand and sing normally. It wasn't an easy task. I listened to many hours of lessons from many different teachers. When I stumbled across your page. The video of you explaining how to do sirens and sounding like a ghost 👻 that's when it all came together ❤ Thanks Victoria for such a fantastic 📹
Great! I love this! By the way, I have a group class for members of my VVVEP (audio program) on Jan 22. If you are a member, you can perform. Otherwise, general participation is open to the public. www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/group-classes/
If I may add a little thing of mine (for others still struggling despite these wonderful tips in this video) i discovered while achieving a nice controlled vibrato: It's to : A) start with a metronome and think vibrato as bi tonal A B A B A B and increase speed to at least 130 (150 ideally). It's to train the "muscles" to that movement and get some flexibility. B) to stop thinking about "bitonal" vibrato and more of a main note to hold and a "shadow" note . Visualize mentally a rubber band (that helped me). Music theory and solfege days are too far for me to remember (lol )but I think the vibrato is like less than a half tone if i'm not mistaken or maybe it's half tone idk xD. But thinking that way helped achieve a more natural vibrato, more controlled and stable not sounding like a two tones alamr siren (pi po pi po pi po) And obviously all the standard tips for singing: relax, phrasing etc. Songs to train: all the songs from the great american songbooks. "Somewhere over the rainbow", the autumn leaves, as time goes by. (slightly) Excessive use of vibratos back then, but perfect opportunity to train it and enjoy your journey to getting the vibrato :D PS: i love your expression "stuck in straight tone" I laughed so much you really made my day XD
Thanks to your video I got the point how to sing the "real" vibrato (it still needs quite a lot of practicing especially with certain notes and syllables but I think I understood the essentials). Thank you for the good explanation & exercises!
I can’t tell You how much your videos help me. I’ve tried being coach before. It’s so frustrating because I KNOW it’s there! Your words keep giving me “AHA!” Moments one after another. It’s actually therapeutic! Thank you!
My vibrato has a mind of it's own, I'll definitely be practicing. Overall this video has added to my understanding about vibrato in general. Thanks again ma'am

At last, I have found you today. I'm longing to see a very good singing coach on youtube. I can't afford expensive voice or singing lessons in the Philippines since life is a bit of a struggle since the Pandemic. You really got that zest and enthusiasm in teaching. I'm almost glued at my seat watching videos to other videos within an hour. Thanks a lot for your very informative videos, mam Victoria. Keep up the good work. More blessings to you. Mabuhay po kayo.
Your channel is one of the channels that I always trust and go to when I want to know about vocal stuff. Very informative and straight to the point. YOU'RE AMAZING! ❤❤
I wanted to add that with some singers do vibrato by moving their jaws! I love Whitney Houston but she did that all the time and all I think of is the tension she caused in her jaw.
I just ❤ you. Vibrato is elusive for me. I’ve been praying for a beautiful voice since I was s kid now I’m 70. By praying I mean litterally asking ‘please let me open my mouth when it counts, in front of and with other people or when I just want to sing out loud’ but I wonder if my anatomy isn’t built the way it needs to be when I don’t sing with vibrato with ease. I can get it sometimes. I appreciate your mention of lightening up. I sang acoustic bluegrass for many years & belted to be heard over the loud instruments like banjo. I’ve taken voice lessons countless times since the age of 15. I always quit because I give up. I think you are correct when you say alot of it is mental. I will keep praying and trying and thank you for these lessons ..now I couldn’t afford to pay an instructor. Im in choir rehearsals right now it’s only for 6 weeks. There are many trained voices in choir. They’re phenomenal. Maybe one of your videos you would sing a popular song not classical or operatic. yourvoice is flawless. I just wonder if you ever sing popular songs from any era. I’d love to hear you. I tried to sing a few patsy cline songs. I couldn’t do them any Justice because of the elusive vibrato.

So excited to have discovered your channel. I've been trying to develop vibrato for over a decade (seriously) with no success-- it has been pretty depressing. Looking forward to working on your exercises and seeing what transpires.
@@Victoria-Victorious Thank you! I just purchased your exercise program and it really gives me the structure I need for consistent practice. I was kind of floundering on my own without a guide to follow along.
I'm here after someone telling me my vibrato is a fake vibrato, years ago my voice teacher complimented my vibrato so i have years of this "fake" vibrato, even with these exercises im finding it hard to understand and change. This is all cause i was asking someone what the difference between "spin" and "vibrato" is, im in choir for the first time in university, im an okay singer, but i took pride in my vibrato only to find out i dont know how to sing with vibrato in the first place
Hello Ms. Victoria, I don't want to waste your time, so other than to say, I love you and your an inspiration, I'll get to the point... I'm a 39 y/o autistic man, and I've been broke, and very depressed sometimes. Discovering your videos has helped me rediscover the joy I've always gotten from singing. This has lifted me out of a very dark place, and I could never hope to thank you enough. I was wondering if you knew maybe a student or something that would be willing to give me supplementary vocal lessons for a small tip? It's for a good, very specific reason: I'm autistic and have dyspraxia, and intero and propreocetion issues and need to ask very specific questions in order to make my larynx do what it needs to do. I promise you, if anyone wants I will explain more, but basically, I get my body to move and do things and a different way, using a different part of the brain etc. So, what may relax almost everyone, may actually make me more tense. Your references are perfect for neurotypical people, but theres just no way you could anticipate a student like me. lol. My dad has been a guitar teacher, my stepmother a singer for 52 and 30 years respectively and they would not hesitate to tell you the same. A year from now, I will be in a much better financial position to actually afford to pay to hire someone as amazing as you. I come from a family of musicians, my father, 78 and still a rock musician in a band, and still a guitar teacher. He used to be in vegas show bands in the 70s among many other things as you can imagine. He met my mother on tour, she was the bartender at the venue. lol. Personally, I go for the drummer, or base, but since gay drummers are at a premium, I'll even flirt with the sound guy for all I care. lol. Sorry if this wasn't the appropriate place to write this comment, but those who care to read it, will surely feel the sincerity behind these words of gratitude. I've watched most of the people I love die over the past 5 years, a few old, most young. I know how important it is to tell people how they have impacted your life, and the positive effect it's had. At the risk of it not being read by the right person, and being read by the wrong people, not having a typical sense of social norms. I really don't give a fuck. If anyone gives me shit for expressing love to another human, in this day and age and this social climate, then I especially love them for their passion and courage to give me shit. Have you seen what's on cable television lately? If you flip through the channels, and realize that people paid money for those programs....theres gotta be at least one person that appreciates my eccentric, over self-expressive comments. Much love to you Victoria, and to everyone who read this far...you deserve recognition for your courage and bravery for listening to a gay autistic nerd ramble on RUclips. I think you've more than done your good deed for the day. Much love! Peace Now!
Hi, Christian! I’m so happy that you love my videos! I hear your love for singing in your message. I have an autistic student who is an excellent singer and has been with me for 9 years. I wish I could help you but my studio is full. I’ll let you know if I think of anyone. Keep singing and have fun! 🧡
this was so so helpful, i've always had a good musical ear and a good voice but i've been doing vibrato the wrong way all along! thank you for your clear explanations of everything, this will definitely help me sound better singing the songs i write :)
A big tip I found is that the more air coming out the better. Even if you aren't tightening your voice, if there isn't enough air being pushed out by the diaphragm, there will not be any vibrato.
I learned playing Rock Band that using vibrato will cause you to fail because it's toggling between two different notes. So interesting to see you explain it here.
Perfect teaching because i can understand everything she said 💯 I'm going to keep working on it as I've been practice singing for years and ready for a competition that I'm joining soon with these videos they will help me in improving my voice and finding it ❤❤❤❤.
You are such an amazing discovery!! Thank you so much for sharing all those tips - Nora Toutain, singer songwriter performer (and vocal teacher!) from Morocco based in Montreal
Personally, I think ur the best instructor if not one of the best on the matter of singing, that I've come across. I can really understand whatever concept you're presenting. You're speaking my language, so to speak.
I was listening to and practicing with this video while going down a dirt road. I highly recommend it as the vibrations from the rocky road make the vibrato a lot easier! 😆 And a lot more fun!!
My wife and I been watching your videos for 2 months now. You are truly a great voice instructor. My question is, can someone over 40 years old can still learn to do a vibrato even just a little bit? Thank you for your great videos. We both subscribed already. You are fun to watch.
Im just good at vibrato at some voice level and genre but not all. and im doing it on purpose. lucky those who have natural vibrato in every song they sing.
Absolutely love these videos. My issue is controlling vibrato mostly when singing higher soprano. Holding a long note & having to much vibrato. When singing alto or tenor it isn't a problem.
Hmmm, it's usually the opposite with singers, at least in my experience! Watch this video which may help: Vibrato Singing - CONTROL, CONSISTENCY & STYLE ruclips.net/video/d7nJBwipqfk/видео.html
My vibrato comes naturally. I sometimes have problems controlling it. I was always made fun of in school because I sounded much older than my elementary years snd grew up in the 80’s where pop music was prevalent and I couldn’t sing it.
This is one of the best videos teaching vibrato, Ive always struggled with vibrato, usually when i sing with vibrato it sounds half natural half forced and mt throat would get sore everytime I sing vibrato, and this video has really helped me open up my vocal chords more, but I am still cant fully do vibrato and still get a sore throat and I have a singing audition coming up, do you have any advice?
Hi, Thank you for your note. As stated on my website, my private studio is full and I am not adding to the wait list. Your other options are: 1. participating in my group classes for members of my audio exercise training program www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/group-classes/ (need to become a VVVEP member first (www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/order-victorias-victorious-vocal-exercise-program/) 2. submitting a video for evaluation: www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/product/video-review-of-your-singing/ 3. Of course, you should be subscribed to my RUclips channel where I post valuable info seldom found online and certainly not for free! ruclips.net/user/vrsing Make sure that you are on my mailing list to be informed of future opportunities. The easiest way to get on the list is to get my 2 free e-books: www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/victorias-victorious-e-books/ Have fun with your singing!
I suspect that if I had some professional training I'd be really good. I'm self taught and there are these rare moments where I tap into something I simply can't explain and I can sing pretty well. Then other times I sound questionable. Still discovering and finding my voice. Vibrato is one of the few things I can do very well and I don't believe it's the fake kind
Thanks for another helpful video, Victoria! When aiming for the feeling of release, is the larynx movement during vibrato completely involuntary? Or are you slightly guiding / initiating the movement along with the airflow? I've always been confused about that part. Thanks!
If you are working hard at moving the larynx, then that is not going to help you "release" or "relax" at the vocal folds. However, the "wild & crazy" exercises, plus the exercises with the fast moving, up & down pitches do help to free things up without excess manipulation.
I have a friend who likes to sing early music and says she can’t do vibrato. I tell her you don’t put on vibrato and she thinks I mean it’s bad, like an affectation. I meant you don’t put it on, a former teacher told me it comes naturally when the voice is free. A lot of bad information out there, more people need to hear what you are saying.
Thanks for sharing once again ma’am victoria! 💓💓 i am quite curious if you will make a video on what you think about the “mesa di voce”? I do hear a lot of times a friend mentor of mine mentioning about it 😅
Trying right out of the gate and I sound like I choked one of my chickens. Oh boy, I need help. I have 53 years of bad habits to break. I love your videos.
Although I have a good, natural and controllable vibrato, I'm not a singer or even a musician so pardon if this is a dumb question but what do you think of singers who have a natural tremolo rather than vibrato? It doesn't sound at all like the "fake vibrato" that you demonstrated and is difficult to discern from a vibrato other than it being a variation in volume rather than being a variation in frequency. Professional (non opera, of course) singers who have/use it include Jane Olivor and Freddy Fender among many others with the most obvious being Aaron Nevill as his is slow and stands out.

As a man having vibrato is hard for me I can't but I'll practise thx for this video's you make every day I can easily learn
A big tip I found is that the more air coming out the better. Even if you aren't tightening your voice, if there isn't enough air being pushed out by the diaphragm, there will not be any vibrato.
Thank you! Watched, saved, to be studied and savored.
Wow, I rewatch this episode all the time.
I found ur channel today. I love ur energy and am excited to check out more videos about vibrato!! :)
Welcome to my channel, Nora! Nice to meet another voice teacher! Thank you for posting!
Just what I needed. Your instruction is always so good.
Glad it was helpful!
Personally, I think ur the best instructor if not one of the best on the matter of singing, that I've come across. I can really understand whatever concept you're presenting. You're speaking my language, so to speak.
Everything in life is about “relaxation “ 🌹
Thank you for the great tips Victoria, your explanations are great. I’m going to give those exercises a try. Here goes
Ang galing-galing nyo po! Mabuhay po kayo!!!!
After watching this awesome video I went straight (haha )😆 to the exercises . You are fantastic 👏
❤I learned thank you so much, release the tension to gained vibrato.
Amazing woman. Loved her on first view ❤ beautiful Aura 🙏🏽
My goodness I absolutely love her style!!
Thank you, OG! So kind of you!
thank you ... from Brazil ...I'm getting better to my self..thank you...
I was listening to and practicing with this video while going down a dirt road. I highly recommend it as the vibrations from the rocky road make the vibrato a lot easier! 😆 And a lot more fun!!
God Damn it! it worked like a charm. I've tried other videos about vibrato without any results and I was about to give up. Thank you.
I do a "strum" motion with my hands to consciously signal the timing of the release for vibrato.
You're amazing Victoria. Great tutorial.
Great teacher!
OHHHHH DAMMMNNN!! I just discovered mine, by just relaxing, and on my way to improve it, thank you❤️
I don't understand one thing , does your Adam's apple move while doing vibrato??
Lily Tomlin!!! Omg you talk and act just like Lily Tomlin!
I can’t believe the similarity. Anyone else thinks the same?
My wife and I been watching your videos for 2 months now. You are truly a great voice instructor. My question is, can someone over 40 years old can still learn to do a vibrato even just a little bit? Thank you for your great videos. We both subscribed already. You are fun to watch.
Yes! You can do it with consistent practice! It takes a while to undo old habits. 🙂
@@Victoria-Victorious Thank you .
Excellent video once again! The same principle that we use to learn how to performe a trill in classical singing 🙏
I absolutely love you! Thanks for these videos. :)
many thanks maam
Thank you for this lesson❤️🌹
Thank you. I've Just starting to take singing seriously.
Perfect. Make sure to see my Beginner Playlist!
Machine gun vibrato. Lol🤣🤣🤣🤣
YO WTF I CAN DO THIS IN JUST MINUTES, THANK YOU SO MUCH
I love you....You are very good teacher..
What an amazing woman!
If you get a sore throat, you may be going into the squeeze. See my playlist on Thoat Tension.
Such a fantastic tutorial, thank you
Glad you liked it!
May I please ask if you teach one on one session? Thank you so much for your great tips!
Hi,
Thank you for your note. As stated on my website, my private studio is full and I am not adding to the wait list. Your other options are:
1. participating in my group classes for members of my audio exercise training program www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/group-classes/ (need to become a VVVEP member first (www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/order-victorias-victorious-vocal-exercise-program/)
2. submitting a video for evaluation: www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/product/video-review-of-your-singing/
3. Of course, you should be subscribed to my RUclips channel where I post valuable info seldom found online and certainly not for free! ruclips.net/user/vrsing
Make sure that you are on my mailing list to be informed of future opportunities. The easiest way to get on the list is to get my 2 free e-books: www.healthyvocaltechnique.com/victorias-victorious-e-books/
Have fun with your singing!
Thanks!
You are an angel.
This is so helpful.thank you for teaching clearly. But I can't make it happen my vibrato.
It's okay! Just keep incorporating vibrato exercises and other exercises to free up your voice daily.
Really good content, thank you 👏
Thanks for another helpful video, Victoria!
@@Victoria-Victorious Thanks for the tip! :D
This is what I've always wondered!
WoW you are good ! Thank you 🙏🏼
Amazing 💗
Love this tutorial.!!!
My vibrato comes and goes😂
It's okay! Keep practicing! 😊
Thankyou.! So helpful
I just found you and immediately followed. Love your energy!
Thanks for sharing once again ma’am victoria! 💓💓 i am quite curious if you will make a video on what you think about the “mesa di voce”? I do hear a lot of times a friend mentor of mine mentioning about it 😅
One of THE most difficult exercises to do correctly. I’ll put it on my list for future vids.
Trying right out of the gate and I sound like I choked one of my chickens. Oh boy, I need help. I have 53 years of bad habits to break. I love your videos.
you deserve more subscribers
Excellent
Although I have a good, natural and controllable vibrato, I'm not a singer or even a musician so pardon if this is a dumb question but what do you think of singers who have a natural tremolo rather than vibrato? It doesn't sound at all like the "fake vibrato" that you demonstrated and is difficult to discern from a vibrato other than it being a variation in volume rather than being a variation in frequency. Professional (non opera, of course) singers who have/use it include Jane Olivor and Freddy Fender among many others with the most obvious being Aaron Nevill as his is slow and stands out.
❤❤❤ lab it lab the way to teach us vebrato
I love you so much!!! thank you!!
