      Hi Victoria, I have been following all your videos and I love them. You’re truly amazing!
      I wanted to ask.. I feel like for some reason there is something I am missing about breath support(arpoggio). I am not sure how to engage my core when I sing, if I have to squeeze my stomach, or my rib cage, or both? And is it something that I should do actively and hold it throughout the entire singing phrase? Sometimes when I try I get light headed so I would assume something I doing is wrong

    For me it was my breathing. Learning appoggio provided a strong, constant, dependable stream of air and then I could stop forcing from the throat and tightening as I attempted to sing higher or longer or louder. Thus, I found relaxation in the throat and a vibrato happened (as opposed to my trying to actively 'make it happen' in my larynx). I envy those who just naturally make good technique choices. I am constantly learning to get out of my own way, stop forcing the sound and just letting it happen. To me, the exercises are a way to pay attention to how I am singing and what I am doing on the inside so I can know how to get what I want. Also, they allow me to practice those techniques to establish consistency, endurance and control. Sort of like playing catch to develop one's baseball skill. [this will teach you to ask me for comments :)] Another one of your excellent videos. I look forward to them.

    My dillema I had a bit of a vibrato that would come naturally on some songs. But I've since improved my voice control quite a bit...but i noticed I have lost my half decent vibrato. Now it's gone.. By improving my singing control (on key) I have stiffened up my notes. So now I have to learn how to sing right yet be able to relax to get into vibrato.

    Hi Victoria, thank you so much for all of your content! You’re an amazing teacher and you really do things differently from all I have seen on RUclips! I’m going to try your program and I’m going to send you a video for a review very soon. Meanwhile I try to watch and try a lot of your videos and I have a question about the vibrato.
    I’ve had some vocal lessons and I had a voice teacher who told me I had a beautiful vibrato. So I have always though I had a vibrato. Lately in my singing experience I’ve met another professional who told me that my vibrato isn’t real, so I’ve done a research about that and apparently you could imitate the vibrato. So how do I know if what I do is a real or a fake vibrato? If it’s not real I don’t want to keep doing it and keeping this habit, but at the same time I can’t stop it from happening sometimes…
    Do you have any tips or maybe have you done a video about that ? Also I could include that question in my video that I’ll send you soon (still preparing)
    Thank you again and keep doing what you do! Love your passion and honesty !

    • @Victoria-Victorious

      Hi Petia! I would have to hear you to be able to tell. A healthy vibrato feels and sounds free, enhancing the tone, as opposed to drawing attention to itself. I look forward to receiving your video for review.

    I have vibrato and am pleased with my voice when I sing softly. However, when I sing in full voice, my vibrato disappears and my sound is kind of shrill. Not when I sing classically (I'm classically trained) but when I sing contemporary and popular styles...

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 года назад +1

      Of course. this is very common. Work on thinning out your chest voice (see my videos on mix and focus on chest mix). Without hearing and seeing you, I am assuming that you are driving your chest voice which does not allow you to relax it a bit.

      A lot of this depends on what style of music you are singing. I would discuss this with your choir director. The most important thing is that choir singers need to blend and not stick out. You can work on more vocal choices in your solo singing.

    I found this helpful as I thought vibrato was a manifestation of trembling in the diaphragm. It makes sense what you say. I would like to get your opinion on Whitney Houston's vibrato. Even though she had a gorgeous voice, I see a lot of tension in her vibrato because she seemed to have done it with her jaw.

    • @mteokay1246
      @mteokay1246 Год назад +2

      No SHE NEVER DOES IT WITH HER JAW !!!! Her jaw does move but AS A RESULT OF HER VIBRATO. Gosple jaw IS a thing but the vibrato sound that comes from it is shallow and contrived. Whitney's is REFINED and PERFECT coz it is natural and comes from her whole vocal apparatus - and you can clearly hear that .... unless your hearing is challenged. Besides there are MANY clips of her singing with her beautiful perfect vibrato and trills .... and her jaws aren't moving at all !
      So for you to say she does it with her jaw OH WHAT AN INSULT TO HER EXTRAORDINARY TALENT.

    5:12: "--- stuck in straight tone" makes me look anew etymologically at that word straight. You must "allow" vibrato, I think you must be able to, first, to allow. As it's taking risk on staying inline. It's a matter of practice I guess - to believe in your ability to "get back" on course. This teacher knows the best ways about it. Thank you for your advice! By the way .. I got here while comparing Elvis and Little Richard. Elvis seems to know vibrato, Little Richard somehow is explicit about it: vibrato ex-planed.

    If you have learned how to just sing “solid straight voice” and that is your fundamental/ what would be the best way that one could instantly go from hard straight to easing vibrato - what thought or lesson would you suggest to “trigger” that?

      I give quite a few vibrato exercises in other videos. Different exercises work for different people. See the playlist: Vibrato - UNCOVER & MASTER YOUR VIBRATO! ruclips.net/p/PLaWjWxiTysDDufptDJzaeHH-RK4A_mkj4

    2:45 It's sad that people ask that question all while subconsciously avoiding the real reason the excersizes are considered silly in the first place. Cause we're all judgemental goblins. It's so hard to allow yourself to do things deemed ridiculous cause you know deep down why its weird. Cause you've thought that about others. Guilty party here.

    Everything I was made fun of for in theatre was the recipe to become a great singer.
    My theatre team was ran by a hot headed quick tempered person. I looked up to him but over time I realized that he wanted me to sing in a deeper register he was not trained in singing either he wanted me to be like Jill Scott, and others of a lower register.
    I am a soprano. My range is between E3 - E5. I was told multiple times over and over gain that I was a soprano and he kept saying that is not true. Now I stick to the fact I am a soprano or mezzo.

    I struggle vibrato and high notes but what does it mean when I sing and when it comes to that ending part I think I hear vibrato in my voice

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Год назад

      This is pretty common. As you approach the end of a longer note and you are running out of breath, you are probably pushing less. Practice the exercises in my other videos in the Playlist on Vibrato.

      It can cause irritation. I recommend doing a search on nasal irrigation to thin out the secretions. Lots of singers do this. There are also mucous thinners that you can buy over the counter. I would discuss all of this with your doctor.

      I cannot tell without knowing your voice. Some singers have high extensions, but that does not determine their voice type. Also, your absolute range is probably different than your actual singing range.

      Woah you get higher then me as female, pretty impressive tho👌
      I think your highest note doesn't define your voice type I think it's which range you are the most comfortable in but I could be wrong.

    I have put this one on the back burner, until I can learn to stay on key. I tried to find it, months ago, thinking it would help me sound better, but it just made it worse (I didnt think it was possible 😳😖😳 lol).
    I have improved a lot from your videos, i still have a long way to go....but at least most of the stray tom cats have stopped gathering in my yard when I practice lol.
    But honestly, I feel like its starting to come the more that I practice your suggestions. I can get a couple of vibrators out at the end of a held note, but it's not consistent yet.
    Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us.

    I know will sound odd but when I was young and in choir I was taught how not to use vibrato and that it was a sign of a bad singer - no joke. She told us that we all sounded like goats. I was pretty young and this was in early 70's. 'After being made fun of I never sang again until 2 years ago, I am 58 now, and I mean NEVER EVER sang, not even humming. I sound like a dying animal now but I sing every day and don't really care what people think now. I can barely do it but with these exercises I think I can again. I know I do when I am very tired and sing.

      It sounds like in your effort to control it, you added unwanted tension which is now keeping you stuck in straight tone. I would go back to basics re freeing up your vibrato. Watch the videos in my playlist on Vibrato.
