    I'm just a beginner in singing. I really want to sing good in church although I'm not a good singer. You're approach in teaching how to sing is excellent, meaning you apply your personal experience you gained for years in the field of music. Thanks, and please continue to teach us beginners to motivate ourselves that it is never too late to learn how to sing properly. By the way, I'm 75 years old but I felt age is just a number if you really wanted to learn something that you love to do. Aga thanks and God Bless

    I say WOW! such an AMAZING way to teach. it has been 3 hours since midnight and I have skipped so many videos but yours is the one that I watched till the end, enjoyed and understood. The best thing I liked about this video is that a novice like me who does not understand the concepts can relate it the known to the layman and build from there , the ghost sound imitation example was cool and a good base to relate and take further. Thanks so much for putting your heart into your teaching, Love you for it.

    this is crazy teacher!!! I've known how to do vibrato for a long time without knowing the muscle memory portion to it... I remember copying a friend like 20 years ago when singing was more yelling for me... however, a joke he made that involved "boowoowoowoo" i ended up mimicing it and did it. fast forward too 2 weeks ago.. i stumbled upon unlocking my on voice somehow. the three levels.. just by mimicing other singers and when i let myself completely go singing at work and in shopping centers... i just dont care what people think and somehow... i was doing vibrato.... and not even knowing that i was doing it or that it was called vibrato ! then i watch a couple of your videos and i pinpoint the exact feeling in my i guess "body" and now i can do it on command... I cannot explain to you just how natural singing is for me and all it takes is confidence, self belief and practice... I find myself in tears.. literally because of how singing makes me feel while im doing it..
    Thank you with all my heart for helping me. you just dont know the impact you are having... My struggle is in retraining my breathing but its getting there. like i use to listen to music... singing or no singing... i could always hear yet " see" in my head the tones needed to go along with the rhythm to a song.. eventually it became i could come up with the melody in my head... as in hearing the tone mentally but i could never match my voice to it... All of that has been changing the last 2 months which has pushed me to youtube videos like this... so that i can try and figure out just what is going on with me and why im changing within so much..
    Again thank you! I reallly hope you live a long and robust life with many future blessings, for real!!

    This is great! I have a natural vibrato in my lower range but not in my upper and I didn’t realise I could do anything about that as it can sound like I have two different voices at both ends of my range. I just loved trying the jaws exercise at my upper range and finding it led to a vibrato!! Also it helps me control my voice better at the upper end the voice. Can the jaws exercise be a warm up exercise also?? I’m so excited!

    I want to start by THANKING YOU for these wonderful videos, your tips and lessons have changed my life! So, my question is, whenever I try to do a vibrato, I FEEL - physically feel - my throat moving. Is that supposed to happen?
    Sometimes the back of the tongue moves up and down involuntary which destroys the note. I don't really know what to do here. any tips?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  4 года назад +1

      Thank you for your lovely comment! You should feel subtle movement at the larynx with vibrato, but it should not be vigorous shaking. If the back of the tongue is noticeably moving up and down, you likely have some tongue tension going on (pretty common) and also need to work on support. Here are my videos that should help. :) ruclips.net/video/pfawOn6yFa8/видео.html for the tongue, ruclips.net/video/WR2772TGrgo/видео.html for support.

    I feel like I have a good vibrato developed at higher notes in head voice and certain vowels but I can't tell if I've taught myself correctly. I also have developed a good vibrato in my chest voice too with certain vowels such as O, A and E. The more I practice the easier it feels. It doesn't feel stressful or strained when I do it. I find myself to be doing these sorts of exercises or practice just as I'm going about daily life. When the vibrato comes out it feels like its soft flowing water. My vibrato doesn't sound like the bad ones you've exemplified 😂😂 So I assume I'm doing something right?

    So how long should you hold your bravado during each exercise and how many times do you suggest doing each exercise per week?
    Thank you!

      I recommend practicing the exercises for a few minutes each day, with 1 day off if needed. You can sustain your vibrato for as long as you like! Keeping it stable is most important.

      Yes, a lot of singers find their vibrato in a lighter mix or head blend.

      This differs for each person. I would avoid super fatty foods, especially before singing. Make sure to drink enough water.

    Does my larynx function in having vibrato?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 года назад

      Yes. There is movement at the larynx with vibrato, like a rocking motion - more rocking in classical, less in pop styles.

      Well, not entirely. There are different kinds of vibrato for different styles and effects. I explain some of this in my video, How to Control Vibrato Singing - CONSISTENCY & STYLE - ruclips.net/video/d7nJBwipqfk/видео.html

    Just discovering now that as a flute player, the vibrato we're usually taught (using our diaphragms) is actually more like tremolo. So i'd just always assumed singers did the same. It's hard not to resort to the same technique. Does natural vibrato usually oscillate upwards or can it go downwards too?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Год назад

      Healthy vibrato oscillates evenly above AND below the fundamental pitch.

    Should you start in a low chest range and move up over time?
    I kept trying to find the vibrato in my mix but just isn't there. So I've been mostly just singing in chest for the last week doing all these exercises , because my mix just sounds so flat. Like I can sing there.. but no matter how much I practice , it just sounds flat and like crap

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 года назад

      Sure, practice the exercises where it is easiest for you. Most men spend most of their time in chest/chest mix. If you need help with chest mix, make sure to see my PLAYLIST: Mixed Voice Made Easy! ruclips.net/p/PLaWjWxiTysDCCsBgnhWjfRRAWIPflxZp1

      @@Victoria-Victorious Its not more about being easy, its more about working my way up to sounding good all throughout my register.
      Oddly enough my falsetto probably sounds the best, then my chest, and head voice, and then my mix.
      And i practiced more in my mix then in any other area. Maybe with too much tension. So i think starting from scratch in my lower area would be most effective, yes?
      Do you usually get students to start singing all throughout their range or gradually work up?

    I am not a singer but I've always felt my happiest singing along with songs, it's just a good feeling whenever your down, or want to get motivated, music to me is all around the best medicine for any emotion your seeking. That said, I started to really get serious about learning some things, and again I know nothing about music. Beyonce, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Adele, Sam Smith, and the list goes on for me on artists I really adore and sing to in the shower lol, but Im beginning to uncover certain things in my voice lately that actually surprise me sometimes. I follow Cheryl Porter and just recently found your videos, and you are a genius in my eyes. Your explanation on vibrato for me lets me imagine what my vocal cords should be doing. I'm far from the vibrato but these videos get me super excited to try and if it wasn't 1am right now I'd be trying them out haha, ive never let anyone hear me sing I'm quite embarrassed but I have that urge to go for it some days. Thanks for these videos wish me luck 🤞

    Should I be feeling the very back of my tongue going up and down? Like so far back I can't see it in the mirror, but can feel it, or is that the wrong way to be doing it?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  3 года назад

      I would say no. If you feel vibration, okay, but visible shaking or quivering tongue is usually a sign of tension in the tongue or jaw. I recommend that you watch my videos on tongue tension and jaw tension.

      @@Victoria-Victorious I feel like I should be able to see my tongue vibrate when I watch my self try to do it, but I don't. I think I'm teaching myself the wrong way. Lol I never really had a vibrato when I was taking classes in school, I always sung straight notes but it started happening one day, a few months back. Its becoming more and more often, especially when I come down a note or two, like softly going from a d5 to a b4 it sounds like a vibrato, just not clear and strong like yours are. I am heading over to the video you mentioned, I love your other videos, I just might get my confidence back and sing with my teen one day soon lol. Thank you so much for helping me. ❤
