    It's not really about the "vibrations" moving anywhere as that's a sympathetic sensation; it's about the transition from the anterior to the posterior musculature. Straining, breaking or breathy are all symptoms of the same issue - poorly coordinated breath and glottal compression ratios that do not coordinate the shift from anterior to posterior smoothly.
    Nothing in here bad for anyone - all are safe techniques, I just think there are more finished sounds that accomplish this faster.

    If you are a baritone, you can probably emulate Alan Jackson, Darius Rucker, Neil Diamond, Red Hot Chil Peppers, ZZ Top, Bob Seiger. It helps to figure out who you can emulate in various styles, so you can find the keys that make you shine. Transposing everything gets old. The capo doesn't help a baritone as much. I write songs, so I pay attention to the keys and chord progressions of the singers i can emulate, in the styles that I like.

    I'm a baritone and I can go up to B5. I don't know why, but it is easier for me to hit B5 (or Bb5 ) than A5 is there an answer to it? my A5 mostly cracks or how you call it. And I often screamed as a Kid because I thought it was funny... So as I was getting more mature I didn't scream at all, but I remembered how to do it. So I tried screaming again (without annoying anyone 😂) and then I tried to just do high notes or make the note sound My highest then was G5 but now I can go higher because I was screaming everyday. Thats definitely not how you learn to go higher with your voice but I did it. I don't even know what this comment is or where it should help 😂

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  4 года назад +4

      ben ben: the reason its easier to singer higher is because you are further away from the bridge of the voice. When you get closer to chest voice, you are pulled toward chest and that makes it harder to do. The high notes really are easier.

    High pitches are easy... I just channel the girl from 9 Lives cat food commercials... "Morris time fo din din"... LOL!
    The problem is getting the timbres those 80's Hair Band guys like Swbastian Bach et. al were getting. Or Brian Johnson of AC/DC...
    High isn't the problem... sounding good in those ranges (or any range really)... is.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  3 месяца назад

      In my experience, we get into trouble when we are chasing sound. Instead, I teach students how to get the very best their unique voices are capable of producing. The exercises are designed to get their vocal cords to work in an optimal fashion and the larynx to stay down so the vocal cords are free and unencumbered. When all these are functioning optimally, the resonance will also be optimal. Then their unique sound is natural and authentic. And they can focus on singing and performing and sharing their heart and soul.

    • @flmason
      @flmason 3 месяца назад +1

      @@PowerToSing Yeah, that's a great line... but it's not what most guys singing in cover bands want or need, LOL!
      They, practically speaking, are really looking ot be impressionists or impersonators...
      To draw a parallel... guys spend untold time, energy and money trying to get the guitar sounds of Hendrix, SRV, EVH, etc.
      Folks want to make the sounds that drew them into music in the first place... and the whole music instruction industry blows it off with that "your own best unique sound" thing.
      Now... if your goal was to be a new act, looking for your own sound... as was the 60's, 70's, 80's etc. than maybe it would make sense. There was a time when rock was young and folks were looking to be the next new sound.
      These days it's become somewhat of game of folks wanting to do the "classics"... as a lot, we've become traditionalists... the 60's mantra of "do your own thing man"... died somewhere along the way... because there's now a huge back catalog of hits... that most likely won't be equalled for a number or reasons.
      As the joke goes... Q: "What's this generation's Led Zeppelin?" A : "Led Zeppelin"... LOL!
      So whether we "get into trouble" or not... people want what they want. They want the sounds they've heard their whole life and consider the standard sounds of their favorite genres.
      To not acknowledge that, and address it is just well... no flame intended... but BS, a fail, of the instriuctional industry... probably because... they don't really know the answer.
      Not trying to be mean, just trying to put reality out there clearly.

    • @flmason

      @@PowerToSing Nice line to deflect the issue, sounds "authentic" or whatever. But not what foks really want. And the whole instruction industry blows it off like this. Probably because the really don't know the answer.
      No flame intended, just reality as seen from here. I'm your age and been fussing with music since I was 12, so I think I'm on firm ground saying this.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  3 месяца назад

      @@flmason There's no question students want it. The only thing I can do is to explain that with every sound you try to create, unwanted muscular tension is added to the vocal machinery that produces the sound. Which makes it harder not easier to sing well. I am not an expert in mimicking or imitating singers. But I am going to guess that someone can be tremendously successful if they have the same physical build and look, practice the mannerisms, are able to musically reproduce their sound through excellent musicianship and command the stage the way the original did (does). If they can do that, (which I can't influence that much) and then I can help them sing their very best (which I can influence), they have an excellent chance to get plenty of gigs. I have a student who has a very successful career covering an artist (deceased). Our work together has been helping him sing his very best...which also enables him to get through a long performance singing very challenging songs. This is a very interesting conversation. Thank you @flmason. I appreciate your insights. I welcome you or anyone else who has more thoughts on this great topic.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  Год назад +1

      @@usagijojo2 Close to it...but the vocal cords stay engaged. It's hard to tell at first. But experience tells me that most guys feel like head voice is falsetto. It's not. Head voice blends into chest voice. Falsetto does not. It has to engage the muscle of the vocal cords when going back into chest, and that creates a break-like feeling going back down into chest. Head voice gives a smooth transition back into chest.

    Ok. I'm a complete beginner but I do love to sing karaoke. I usually sing mid-range songs but recently I've been wanting to sing Open Arms by Journey. I'm just fascinated by Steve Perry's and Arnel Pineda's voice. So I've been doing some exercises and rewatching your video. I gotta say, your video has helped me a lot. I'm slowly but surely hitting those high notes with less straining than before and less cracking/breaking. I don't aim to be a famous singer but I do enjoy hitting the high notes I used to only dream about. Lol. Love this video. Liked and subscribed!
