Good video! A necessary one. There are pretty much just two rules: 1. Have a wellbeing of others in mind. Empathy. 2. Excellence in all you do. What you covered is derivative from these two. This being a fact, it makes it easier for those who just begin their journey rather than figuring it out as they go. All the best!
Most of these are common knowledge but this is a good reminder. Saying thank you and please is really underrated and should be used more. It just shows respect and appreciation and takes almost zero effort. What I don't get is why it is rude when you make a comment on someone their handshake. I see no problem if you don't insult them.
This is an awesome video and it deserves to be seen, shared, reviewed and implemented by men from all over the world. We have lost the charm of etiquette, praising and appreciating others, as well as speaking and presenting ourselves well. This video reminds us to always be and give our best and be a great, refined man/gentleman in society and promote proper ethics and accountability for ourselves. Again, awesome!
alahmmar yeah... But you tried your best. You can change your behavior. But theres you can't. Excuse me for my bad english, but for me because I am German it is a foreign language.
You can be a gentleman, and still be strong minded. I consider myself that. I won't take any pettiness or rudeness, and I definitely will not be offended by words. However, I understand others are different, and I won't crap on them because of that. Just be polite, and stick up for yourself and others, but know when it's better to say nothing. That's the most important. Knowing when to say something, not deciding whether to say it.
Being respectful, polite and considerate at all times cannot be abused. If you think people are abusing these basic traits you've probably crossed the line between being polite and being a push over. They are not the same thing.
It's good to have books like this. Although some have mentioned we should just know these things, the fact is that every human being, in the absence of a guided upbringing, will be little better off than wild animals. Also, as time passes, knowledge of things fade over time. There are certainly cracks showing in society in how we conduct ourselves publicly, as well as privately within our closer circles. Books are important as well as the continued desire of people to never stop learning how to do better. How we act is more powerful to those around us than our words.
Please pardon me for my interruption, but I thank you for your informative opinion. With all the excitement within the world, we sometimes need to think of how we carry ourselves through life. I believe you are quite right in this response. Good day to you, kind Sir, and have a lovely evening.
I didn't sayed that. A gentlemen want a real relationship with real emotions and love and not a one night stand. You can't copare those two things. To get laid you have to be single or you cheating. So I meant I'm single because I had no relationship
So? what does being a genlteman have to do with having a relationship? Finding a right person to share your love with doesnt have much correlation with being a gentleman (although it does give you more options, women would be more open to get to know you) and is hard as fuck, probably harder when you get older. Expecting a relationship because you act like a gentleman is something little boys would say
That gift one is something girls should do too. I find it so annoying when my female friends say "oh you shouldn't have!" after giving them a gift. If I have actually gone far above and beyond the call of duty, then ok. But a small gift on your birthday does not count as "far above and beyond the call of duty". You're only revealing your own insecurity and embarrassing me. "Thank you" and a smile is sufficient. If you really really wanted what I got you then you can make it "Thank you!" and give me a hug too. But don't act like it's a shock that your friend got you a birthday gift.
Yes, most of these does not only apply to gentlemen. Everyone in general should have good manners. :) Also, congrats! It's only been a week but you got 1000 more subscribers. Really proud of you sir. Keep it up (y)
These are all great tips, and certainly one should look forward in applying them into our everyday life. One thing I should like to comment though, is that these manners are to be applied within an specific cultural context. Most of these advises correspond more to the archetypal notion of a British gentleman. The principle behind each of these tips are morally positive and therefore applicable, according to my view, into everyday life; but, in Venezuela -for example- not apologizing or saying such things as: "Oh, you shouldn't have" (Denying compliments), is seen as sketchy and unfriendly behavior.
Is it Flaunting if I state that I am surprised that I do 98% of these by default without thinking of it ? If so, Sorry. Perhaps it's because i'm Canadian.
Chromozone Fifteen Seems like Canadians don't say "excuse me" when passing by, and instead say "sorry" or nothing. I am from the southern US and we say excuse me and pardon me, but when I said it in Canada I felt like people thought I was being rude, like I was ordering them to excuse my behavior.
Chromozone Fifteen I'm British and felt the same! (though perhaps 80% would be a little more honest with me) Granted, not all of my fellow Brits are as courteous or polite, and I'm not trying to make sweeping generalisations about anyone here, but the basic stuff like; 'please', 'thank you' and 'excuse me' or even just holding doors (actually ESPECIALLY holding doors) was notably lacking when I visited the US last year. The way I heard most (not all, but the majority) of people speak to staff in places was appallingly bad and rude. On the flight over alone every person around me (bar ONE old lady) demanded what they wanted to the poor lady pushing the refreshment cart. "Gimme a beer" as opposed to when they got to me and I'd said "Could I have a beer, please" Also - as a side note - I've never understood the American thing of referring to someone by their job title, such as; 'Steward', 'Driver', Usher', 'Waiter' etc. I think it's so rude and condescending - there's no harm is politely saying Sir or Ma'am/Madam or if that's a bit too formal depending on the circumstances, like maybe in McDonalds for example, opening with "Excuse me" doesn't hurt!!
Loved it, loved it, loved it! Young men need this type of direction. Being a gentleman slipped out of fashion, in my opinion, in certain sections of societies for some years now. Men need to be more proud of what they bring to society and there is nothing more pleasing than a genuine gentleman of any any age. Well Done you did a lovely job.
Practical Psychology now i exactly know what i should not do if i don't what to look like an idiot. there just one rule if someone does it for money you don't need to be polite i mean i also dont thank hookers for a blowjob
Wow! I remember this book from my university, I was making an investigation in the digital library about human rights and then I start messing around looking for other titles and found this.
I’m a girl and I’m saying this loud and clear....Screw Feminism! It ruined chivalry!! I miss the days when a guy would hold the door open, be strong enough to protect a woman, or even tell them they look beautiful today! Feminism was needed back in the day but there is no reason for it to continue now that we have the same rights! Feminism now days is just there to make woman feel victimized! So for all the men out there, don’t stop being a gentleman because it is important to show that you care about your girlfriend or any other girl for that matter! And for all the girls out there don’t forget to appreciate gentlemen because there are very few left! Don’t forget to thank them! And finally for all the feminists out there... grow up and stop acting like a victim! Just because a man is nice to you does not give you any reason to be offended or mean to them so grow up and just say thank you.
Enjoyed the video, and I usually just do all these things because I was raised that way and they feel right, although I do send letters occasionally I wish I sent them more, thank you for the video!
be careful you don't flaunt with these skills, as you can come off as a m'lady-saying, fedora-tipping neckbeard. If it doesn't feel comfortable, be honest to yourself more than to these tips: you'll come off as more genuine.
Hey Practical Psycholgy, Your videos still catch people in the beautifull towns of germany like me. I just want to convey you my appreciation of every video from you. Keep it going ! Jannik
After this, I was certainly very happy to know that my dad raised me right as he taught me to do all these things from a young age and more. And now as a young father to two children, I will do the same
I reckon it's all about expressing your ethical and moral standing through social norms. Being a gentlemen means you practise integrity, dignity, humility and respect for others wellbeing. It isn't about being an oldschool pretentious tosser.
Nayef Alsawaie oh snap son, you pointed out a spelling mistake. your the coolest guy on the internets nao. Their so gonna blow you much hard. In an age where everything is shortened into 3 letters, "bae" is for some unknown reason acceptable over babe, a spelling mistake doesn't mean jack shit. Also congratulations for completely missing missing the fact that my OP was a reference, not a statement. You really are the coolest guy on the internet.
after this video i noticed one things. my parents did raise me to be a gentlemen. All your tips sounded like my parents when i was Young. and i must say it helps to avoid fights with people. because you learn to not show what you really think sometimes.
Another gentlemen tip i learned the hard way- If you're sitting next to the lady on a booth in the restaurant, ALWAYS offer her to sit next to the wall. This is because when she had to get up to relieve herself, you show respect by you getting up for her. It's rude for her to get up for you. Chairs. ALWAYS pull out the chair for your lady. If you're with your her/your parents, the father will do the same for her wife
Cara Macaroni opening the door or pulling a chair isn't hard and men aren't obliged to do it, it's just that if he do it's a plus, a good point to add on his charms... It's like if a man like a pretty girl, she doesn't have to like soccer or games but if she does it would be awesome. that's it.
Whether a male would like to open a door for a woman or pull out a chair it is up to them. It's not a gender thing, it's called chivalry you should try it.
I honestly don't understand why so called feminists have a problem with kind and polite masculine behavior. The world would be a paradise if all men were gentlemen
If the link is mentioned you'll check just that particular video.. if he doesn't.. you check entire channel... you'll end up wanting other videos as well.
i really appreciate that conclusion of the book. I havent read it but i think you mentioned a lot important things that should be done by young men as a matter of course. Thank you very much.
Solly, Iv'e seen a lot about this. But how do wanting to vote and get equal pay have anything to do with manners? I hate how this video and book is called "How to be a Gentlemen" like, I'm a girl yet these things still apply to me! It's just how you interrupt being a gentlemen.
EvilSapphireR Do you really think so? I am a women watching this, I would actually appreciate if the gentleman rules would apply more to womens behaviour. But I guess some girls/women feel oppressed by manner guidelines.
One thing I have been doing all my life is never being the first one to give a handshake to a lady. I am happy that I found it in this list. Now I will add more etiquettes in my life from the list.
This is just common sense, but who am l kidding. I'm in my thirties, so these statements are just general knowledge to me. It's a shame how daily habits our lost with each generation. Great job! Keep up the with the reviews.
I could only imagine that daily discipline is only lost due to the neglect of the generation before. If a parent is not parenting, then a child will look to his or her environment to fill the void. And likely enough, the environment is less than tasteful. Beware, I mean no offense to you sir, but a general statement lead by watching eyes.
keep the seat down but not the lid please. esp if you're staying overnight for the first time at a ladies place. nothing more shocking than going to your own bathroom at night and half asleep but feeling a pressing need, plopping down on what you think is your familiar throne and ready to let go and then discover that you ended up sitting on the lid. which is a) probably quite cold and b) you can now hardly stop yourself so you're now on the brink of disaster.... o.O
TheFeldhamster I would think that depends on whether you found it that way with the seat down and the lid up. For homes with pets I believe in leaving the lid down. Also once you're used to seeing it down it doesn't look proper in any other state.
iambiscuit lee that is the same with me. I asked my dad to do something and said please afterwards and we had a full blown argument about my sarcastic nature
+Asep Ropiudin Excuse me sir, but I believe EHP was applying tips from the video and trying to teach the previous commenter. Therefore he's not the one who needs help. Your comment was appreciated though.
I like the idea of being a gentleman which is a fancy way of saying a man is polite and considerate. However, what do hate about it is that people add a lot of things onto it that I, frankly speaking, find pretentious i.e. write people hand written letters. Notice how the two people who he wrote letters to in this video were both old (grandmother and CEO)? Always open a car door, especially if it's a lady. May I ask why? If you believe this I'm also going to assume that you believe a gentleman should pay for the date? If my assumption is correct, do you also believe a lady should be cooking for her gentleman?
+rodrigo herrera Dude, chill the fuck out. These are legitimate questions. He's not challenging the system, but questioning it. These are two very different things, and I'd advise you practice a little respect while you're at it.
Right??? I like to see "being a gentleman" as someone being chivalrous and no, not in a way where the person will be paying for the date or holding the car door. Simply being kind and polite to everyone regardless of their sex. Chivalry has evolved throughout the years and is commonly misunderstood as "a man does this for a woman just because she's a woman". I like to see it as "someone does this for someone because that person is polite and respectful". :DD
time to be gentleman
Did you?
Indeed
Hope you attain to be a good gentleman

I couldnt agree more on the "gifts" part, its really annoying when you kindly give something to someone and they answer "no, you shouldnt have, keep it" it just starts an akward conversetion with you trying to make him accept the gift and him refusing

Honestly, it depends on the culture. For example in many Asian culture, the refusing of gifts is usually part of the process of giving.
+Chubacca7 Thanks for watching :)
be careful you don't flaunt with these skills, as you can come off as a m'lady-saying, fedora-tipping neckbeard. If it doesn't feel comfortable, be honest to yourself more than to these tips: you'll come off as more genuine.
Truth right here
My parents taught me all that :) But I love your accent and way of talking bruh..
Hey Practical Psycholgy,
Your videos still catch people in the beautifull towns of germany like me.
I just want to convey you my appreciation of every video from you.
Keep it going !
Jannik
So that means i'm a young gentleman?
Neat.
Already knew these because my dad taught me. Great video anyway!
After this, I was certainly very happy to know that my dad raised me right as he taught me to do all these things from a young age and more. And now as a young father to two children, I will do the same
Hows the progress?
@@euphisa8127 Now at 3 kids and so far so good lol
It's best you be a gentleman and you watch what you say
1: look like Walter White.
@saganist u guys r cool
Dude, your content is amazing. Subbed
hey dad! this is my john!
HAHAHA😂😂😂
Well done my friend. I honestly appreciate your videos. Very helpful they are.
Thanks so much, your appreciation is very motivational :D
I'm always reading Ractical Sychology...
thanks for the feedback :)
6 years now. I don’t mind much, Thank you a lot sir Sincerely.
I reckon it's all about expressing your ethical and moral standing through social norms. Being a gentlemen means you practise integrity, dignity, humility and respect for others wellbeing.
It isn't about being an oldschool pretentious tosser.
Louis Andrews Smith I agree
Shouldn't everyone be displaying those attributes?
Divergent Daoist Dude Depends if you vote for Trump or not
+Louis Andrews Smith Got em coach! 😄
awesome job done....good luck with more upcoming videos...
I thought the thumbnail was How to be a Heisenberg
your videos are a breath of fresh air. Simplicity is the hardest math.
Thx for the nice video.
+Steven003 Thanks for watching and commenting :)
:D
Your videos are really interesting and the right length aswell, not too long or short. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for future videos ;D
I think nowadays adding please sound more rude especially putting the tone on PLEASE especially giving the please a sarcastic tone.
Well DON’T BE Sarcastic!
ALWAYS BE Sincere.
It all depends on your intonation and intent chungdha. If you are sincere most people will appreciate your well intended words.
You can tell somebodys character by how they treat the person that serves them
Such good video ! Continue like this you did a great job man
I'm so glad you enjoyed this video!
A Gentlement is, not does. Get it right.
SlaterVJ Gentleman* Not Gentlement, get it right..
This is extremely gay, this video should end with places where you can buy your fedora
Gentlemen don't be arrogant and insult the man for his mistake. Kindly point out their wrongs.
You really are the coolest guy on the internet.
you're** now** they're**
after this video i noticed one things.
my parents did raise me to be a gentlemen.
All your tips sounded like my parents when i was Young.
and i must say it helps to avoid fights with people.
because you learn to not show what you really think sometimes.
Another gentlemen tip i learned the hard way-
If you're sitting next to the lady on a booth in the restaurant, ALWAYS offer her to sit next to the wall. This is because when she had to get up to relieve herself, you show respect by you getting up for her. It's rude for her to get up for you.
Chairs. ALWAYS pull out the chair for your lady. If you're with your her/your parents, the father will do the same for her wife
Their wife* Lol. sorry for the typo
Webby The Dino lmao ur going too far
Cara Macaroni opening the door or pulling a chair isn't hard and men aren't obliged to do it, it's just that if he do it's a plus, a good point to add on his charms... It's like if a man like a pretty girl, she doesn't have to like soccer or games but if she does it would be awesome. that's it.
Whether a male would like to open a door for a woman or pull out a chair it is up to them. It's not a gender thing, it's called chivalry you should try it.
Agaperion Rex who hurt you lmao. It's called chivalry. Women and men can both practice this so it makes the world a little nicer. Not just men : ^)
nice work. Thank you for this great video.
Thanks for watching and commenting :)
There's the gentleman then there's the man, sometimes people just want you to act by taking the lead in situations where they can't.
This video is great. I think I'm going to get that book you talked about. It seems like something I should have.
It is quite an interesting book, I'm glad you enjoyed the video too! :)
Oh boy, how would the world be if every man followed these tips...
Capitalist Crusader it would make the world a better place except feminism is ruining it
I honestly don't understand why so called feminists have a problem with kind and polite masculine behavior. The world would be a paradise if all men were gentlemen
@@jacquelineboulet6975, in fact, women were taught to be disciplined.
Thank you for uploading this video.
And look both ways before you cross the road...
I know so many people that should watch this video... Maybe too many.
great video.
what software did you use?
Check out my video "How I make animated videos" :)
Great answer, hehe, made me smile, thank you!
No link? How ungentlemanly of you.
If the link is mentioned you'll check just that particular video.. if he doesn't.. you check entire channel... you'll end up wanting other videos as well.
Mallinath M You must be fun at parties.
i really appreciate that conclusion of the book. I havent read it but i think you mentioned a lot important things that should be done by young men as a matter of course.
Thank you very much.
chivalry is dead! feminism killed it!
*Opens door*
STOP OPPRESSING ME!
ok milo
Actually, the Battle of Agincourt (1415) heralded the end of chivalry.
Us feminists don't want chivalry dead. We just want you to apply it to everyone equally : )
Solly,
Iv'e seen a lot about this. But how do wanting to vote and get equal pay have anything to do with manners? I hate how this video and book is called "How to be a Gentlemen" like, I'm a girl yet these things still apply to me! It's just how you interrupt being a gentlemen.
Crazy how a similar video directed towards women would get all the shitstorm saying it's sexist and stuff.
It goes to show which audience is being more mature...
How to be canadian 101
This is just common sense, but who am l kidding. I'm in my thirties, so these statements are just general knowledge to me. It's a shame how daily habits our lost with each generation. Great job! Keep up the with the reviews.
This is so true. Thanks for your valuable feedback and much love :)
Great video man , fuck the haters there just helping you grow . keep up the good work (:
+Blue Chucks Respect
Anyone else was thinking of Walter White seeing the thumbnail?
+dilen noris :D
I think you did a fantastic job on this, I know how much effort you put in but it's worth it.
i was a gentleman until the games part came in.
Didn't learn anything from the video but I did enjoy it and it was put together really well
Keep the toilet seat down, you need to block the fumes from your shit tornado
keep the seat down but not the lid please. esp if you're staying overnight for the first time at a ladies place. nothing more shocking than going to your own bathroom at night and half asleep but feeling a pressing need, plopping down on what you think is your familiar throne and ready to let go and then discover that you ended up sitting on the lid. which is a) probably quite cold and b) you can now hardly stop yourself so you're now on the brink of disaster.... o.O
TheFeldhamster I would think that depends on whether you found it that way with the seat down and the lid up. For homes with pets I believe in leaving the lid down. Also once you're used to seeing it down it doesn't look proper in any other state.
*tips fedora*
Tip#1..saying “Shit Tornado” is NOT BEING a ‘Gentleman’..SHOW SOME CLASS!
Tip#2..GO in your OWN Place!
It will surprise me to know that some people haven't been taught all of these things growing up. Very well done video.
You underestimate my power to sound sarcastic even when saying please
iambiscuit lee that is the same with me. I asked my dad to do something and said please afterwards and we had a full blown argument about my sarcastic nature
Thanks for posting the video I been wanting be learn how to be a gentlemen
What software do you use to make these videos?
Check out my video: "How I make animated videos":)
I read this as you said: "Check out my other videos..." XD
does not make sense?
Thank you for doing this video , it helped me a lot :)
I'm the 272,727 view, i feel complete
That's cool
Great videos. Very calm and informative.
so once you're a gentleman, good luck finding a real "Lady" out there.
Great video.... Awesome editing!
these drawings are handmade ?
+Yoann Morais I use a special software
can you give me the name ?
Ca you give me the name please*
+Asep Ropiudin Excuse me sir, but I believe EHP was applying tips from the video and trying to teach the previous commenter. Therefore he's not the one who needs help. Your comment was appreciated though.
rolKa178 That is exactly what i was about to say. Good thing that you realized :)
This was an absolutely amazing presentation! I look forward to more of your videos :)
Can I ask what program you used for this?
Check out my video "How I make animated videos" :)
:DD
ChipperieMC ignoring the strict gender identity in chivalry over generations is ridiculous.
This was a great video, I shared it with my 8 year old son. Thanks!
