Not sure what you mean? The wood strips are needed to screw the drywall to during finishing. They are also the mounting points for anything else that gets mounted to the wall such as cabinets or shelving. The strips were also very inexpensive, a lot of labor, but little cost. I bought 4'x8' sheets of OSB and ripped it into strips. Since the strips are screwed into the cinder block walls, they are VERY strong mounting points and easy to find because they're 3" wide.

Yes, for finished space and super energy savings, a framed wall and more insulation is the way to go. In my case, the video was taken in my garage, and the back wall that I was working on goes to the house (our garage is under the house at the end of the walkout basement). On that wall, there is another layer of the same foam on the interior side. The exterior walls of the walkout basement are framed and sprayed with closed cell foam for a total of R-38.

Thanks for the video. I agree the instructions from Dow are rather disappointing. It's an expensive product, IMHO used by people who want the maximum insulation, so instructions on how to do it right would make a lot of sense! Another way to install if you want more R value is to use the Cladmate, glue it to the wall, and then follow it up by a 2x4 or 2x6 wall with fiberglass in it. I did this in my basement (R30 wall total), and R8 for the flood, and it never feels cold down there ;)

Why didn't you save money by using the Great Stuff instead of the added expense of wood strips etc?
