  • Here is a Navien high efficient 95% Tankless gas water heater we installed in Chelmsford Massachusetts. Our client had a situation where his two 50 gallon power vented steel gas water heaters both rotted out and let go flooding his basement. We removed & disposed of them. We returned with a Navien NPE-240A2 gas 95% efficient tankless water heater. Mounted it to the wall in his basement. Vented the unit outside with proper code required piping. These units also qualify for MassSave / Gasnetworks rebate of $700.
    We also installed a Aqua-Pure 904 series high capacity whole house water filter that will prevent sediment as small as 5 microns from entering the water piping system, it will prevent scale and corrosion from occurring, it also will improve taste and remove odors like chlorine. It will prevent the heat exchanger from scaling up and help protect all of the plumbing in the house. If you’d like to get a in home evaluation and quote please go to:

    This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

    Works great.....when it woks. Mine quit after 2 months. Had the installers out twice and they haven't a clue. I suspect the internal check valve as the hot water will slowly get cold, and then, eventually there will be no hot water at all. I think a Renai or Rheem is a better value. They seem to fail, unlike a Navien.

      Nevins are POS's from what I have seen. Plastic sweating oil, hazardous leaks from the heat exchanger, sensor failures, etc. They always blame the installation.

    What is the approximate cost of installation. Is there a difference in performance or cost between gas & electric Navian water heaters?

      I‘ve been installing Aqua-Pure products for 30 years. And have a great track record with them. This model does 5 micron filtration, prevents scale and corrosion from forming and removes odors like chlorine & sulfur and improves taste with its carbon block. So its a great whole house application. Protects all the plumbing!

      @@PlumbRalph I'm debating on having a Navien npe-240a2 installed is this a good unit for a 2800 sq ft 2 story house with 3 bathrooms? How often and expensive should they be serviced? Do these require flushing valves? Also was looking at the Bosh Greentherm T 9900 SE. Which is mote reliable?

    • @PlumbRalph

      @@shanew7361 I’ve not installed the Bosch units your are units. I’ve had great luck and my clients have had great fuel savings with the Navien tankless units. You will have no problem heating the water for 3 bathrooms. Depending on how far away your furthest fixture is you may want to run a recirculating line and tie it into the units built in recirculating line to have water at the furthest fixture much faster with less waste.

      Good question. These installers don’t talk about gas load. You almost always have to deal with gas sizing/resizing to accommodate the additional 199,000 Btu’s you are adding to the existing gas load. You just cannot remove old water heater and use same gas pipe to connect new tankless. In most instances, you will run new dedicated gas branch directly from gas meter to the new tankless . As far as gas goes, the closer to the gas meter you place your new tankless, the better

      We’ve been installing them for about 6 years with little to no problems on our installs. We’ve been called out to installs that were done by complete hacks and they have failed. The biggest thing is water chemistry. Everyone needs a water filter. We really have good success installing Aqua-Pure 904 filters on the incoming water main to the house. They prevent scale and corrosion, remove sediment , and improve taste and remove odors from the water. It’s the clients that say no thanks to the water filter that we see any problems with the units.

    Most dishwashers (except for the ones in mobile homes) have their own heating element so there’s no need to plumb a dishwasher to the hot water supply line.

    • @PlumbRalph
      @PlumbRalph 2 года назад +7

      You still want to run a hot water line to a dishwasher. Many have a heating element to boost the temperature above normal hot water temperature used in the home. It raises the temp to sanitize dishes. It’s not meant to be the only heat source. If you were to run a cold water line to a dishwasher it would take a very long time to complete a cycle as it would have to do so much extra work to raise the temperature.
