Challengers after 71’ are sometimes forgotten. Everyone remembers the 70’ and 71’ models but no one gives any love to the 72’ and up. Great video.
I like the 72-73 340 Challengers and Cudas. Other than the 73-74 455 Super Duty Trans Am and 72-73 340 Dusters and Demons they were the only true muscle cars you could still buy after 71. But for 74 they replaced the 340 with that junk 360
@@jeremythompson9895 the 360 wasn't that bad it just was detuned for un leaded gas and had a lower compression ratio. Still put out some go torque ratings. High end horsepower dropped to 240😥
I like how you added the extra numbers on the spedomiter that we couldn't see, did a good job, and I freaking love the sou d of course
I'm 70 yrs. old. At age 19 I owned a 1968 Roadrunner with a 426/ 2 four barrels, four speed. What a car, it went Meep-Meep ( the horn) and the girls loved that! Sunoco 260 (gasoline) was 32cents a gal. and needed because of the high compression. If you were pushing it hard mileage would drop from13-14 to about 8 mi. per gal. It eventually caught fire on the firewall and sweep thru the car totaling it. I was devastated.
Why do they have to take classic cars and stick modern dick rims on them
That wheels RUINED the performance
Those wheels ruin EVERYTHING
He needs drag radial tires with some fat rubber to get it to hook up better.
The engine wants to go faster but the tires can't deal with all that power.
Those wheels and tires are killing me.
There is just no car like MoPaR, the #1 original American badass
This Dodge challenger is a 73 model. The 426 Hemi wasn't available in 73. The last production year for the Hemi was 71. This is the modern 6.1 liter Hemi which probably puts out more horsepower than the original ever did. Very cool engine swap and I would love to see a video of how it was done. The stock engine for this car when new was probably the 340 small block.
It's heart warming how much it sounds like modern Hemis
Patrick Smarr its is a modern hemi stupid
the rims ruin it
The rims AND the engine ruin it
but u have profile pic of a modern challenger that has big rims. shit ya ass up
exactly, modern challenger. They dont look good on the classics
Primo Carnera not cool bro
4 stroke piece of garbage as usual
Impressive with that long of a gear ratio in the axle. It needs 50% shorter, & an overdrive unit for high speed.
Man, that sound ❤❤❤❤
Awesome sound
Sick whip man.
Super clean takeoff.
wow nice engine sound
Mopar Muscle 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I had a 73 charger with the 150 speedo and slapstick buckets nice car you have sir
Damn that car can get up and go!
it says 426 but 6.1 isn't 426ci.
that ruins the point of the hemi. hemi is a top end engine stroking it cuts down it rpm potential.
jacob osmer you don't know wtf hemi means then you dumbass...hemisphereical combustion chamber man...nothing special
Bruce Bartsch it's a 372 ci..the newer 6.1
6.1 is a 370 ci
They can be stroked to 440. A 5.7 as well or 392.
Nice. I don't have a '60s hemi but I do have a 1968 Lincoln suicide door with a 427 SOHC (obviously not the original engine). It has been completely restored, though not a concours and despite it's 5000 pound weight, it will get to 60 mph in about five and a half seconds.
The American Power o en español, el poder americano, i love this Beast (Dodge charger) the true boss of the routes
Nice car, although as others said, the Title is deceptive and a bit clickbaity. When the title says 426 hemi, most people think of an old school 426CID hemi from the 60's or early 70's, not a modern 6.1 Hemi. Additionally, the rims do not match the classic look of the car and detract from the presentation. The car still is fast and sounds good though. It sounds like it's using an A833 or 4 speed auto trans from the old days hooked behind the newer hemi. Only hits 4th gear at near 120mph, so explains some of the difference other commenters seem to be fixated on (0-60 time of 5 seconds). Modern 8 speed autos in the 2017 dodge challenger would improve HP losses through the trans and the 0-60/quarter time quite a bit.
Dion P I was thinking the same thing. When the hood open, it just took the smile right off my face. lol.
Tall gears. Love em.
426 Hemi my ass, that's a dime a dozen modern Hemi. Came here to see a big block 426
Ate up the whole speedometer in less than 20 seconds 😱
dam that engine sounds good
Yeah I love the new Hemi V8. It's got some serious power. It actually puts out more horsepower than the 60s 426 Hemi and it dose that with less cubic inches. The original was a 7.0 liter this engine is only 6.1 and it still out performs the classic. Still the 1960s engines are so beautiful.
Oooh weee that is a beautiful sound!
Love how to body is leaning to the right pretty hard
Yeah, but it's also doing that at a standstill! Something's wrong with it.
Just change the rims and we got incredible machine :) Love it. Challenger is my favorite pony car.
they're muscle cars, pretty expensive yknow
pony's are mustangs that sure were't no stang
@@In_Rem : The term "pony car" refers to any smaller musclecar with a short rear deck, including Mustangs, 'Cudas, Challengers, Camaros, etc.
So what if it isn't an old school Hemi still sounds bad ass IMO
ferreteria de la vieja escuela que locura por favor.... hemi v8 una enfermedad para los fierreros igual que un chevrolet v8 350 ss fierros de verdad
sounds good accelerating but the new school engines has no idle sound to it...where is the cam lift/ duration and lobe seperation at would like to know the exact mufflers that are on it
oh mummy !! buy me that!!
What kind of black rims are those please?
linda bestia
Wow nice wheelspin. How many ps has?
I hate to tell you guys . Seven liters is 427 c.i.
That speedometer lag
What are the name of those rims
Get some 410's In that thing.
Looks like about a 5.7 sec 0-60 and about 13 seconds to 100 MPH..of course with a modern 8 speed trans, that would shave off half second to 60 and probably a little more in the quarter.
Them rims though... DANG!
Asphalt8ficionado is this an insult to the rims or a compliment because those things are ugly
You spelled 392 Apache swap wrong.
Not even a 392. It's the old 6.1 which is a 372.
Shawn Carson Oh my god guys...has nobody ever heard of a stroker kit? why is this such a hard concept for everyone to grasp? haha. jesus
Evan B still doesn't change what it was from factory
@@thelaborpeasant : It's not a stroker -- the uploader is just plain *wrong.*
@@Milesco so you can tell bore and stroke simply by looking at a motor as it sits in the engine bay? There have been kits to stroke the 6.1 to 426ci for a long time now
Need to adjust your torsion bar on the right.
Yeah, I noticed that, too.
Dat 7.0 thoe lol
That car would accelerate faster if you put some tires on those rims
Yeah everyone loves the thin rubber but these cars really need fat drag radials to get off the line. Mopars were set up from the factory to have fatter drag wheels. Everyone back in the day would replace the stock tires for drag radials.
426 HEMI? Sounds like an AMG 6.2L V8 inside the cabin, especially given the high revs.
Yeah, it's an incorrect title.
Scott Strong, I agree with you. I have a new Chrysler 300 with 3.6 and 8 speed. It is faster than that car. P.S. and yes, I do own a real original 426 Hemi. I also have been in the performance circles for 46 years. New motors are very nice.
0:18 jesus fuck those rims dude what the fuck
Use a blower and 1 to 1 cam and you can make it a 2 stroke inverted U loop hemi!
Bruce Miller made no sense
It sounds strange but someone did this with a Volkswagen diesel. it works though the valves with blower.
Why does nobody like the rims lol aint they what come on modern challengers/chargers? Main ones i see any way same size too
Impressive car. What's the transmission in this?
Likely a 4 speed auto
Omg, people on the internet kill me with their ignorance i swear haha. Just because its a Gen 3 Hemi doesnt mean it HAS to be a 5.7, 6.1, or 6.4. There is such a thing as boring and stroking. Its been around for a while. And yes, there is a stroker kit to make a 426ci Gen 3 Hemi. You guys kill me with your jumping to conclusions Lol
Evan B we came expecting a classic engine sound. it doesn't have anything to do with size (that's what she said) it has to do with age
A 426 Hemi is a specific well-known engine, and _this ain't it!_
And where does it say that this is a 6.1 with a stroker kit? It doesn't. Not in the title, nor in the description. And even if it _were_ a stroked 6.1 L engine that happened to displace 426 cubic inches (which I strongly doubt), it _still_ wouldn't be a "426 Hemi" because, as I said, that name refers to a specific engine, which this isn't.
The uploader of the video, who I believe is foreigner and not familiar with classic Mopars, has mislabeled the video.
@@Milesco I think you're just stuck in your ways and can't accept that the world has moved on since the 70s lol. If you stroke a 6.1 to 426ci it's a 426ci Hemi. Just because you've branded the old motor as that doesn't mean the new one cant be and doesn't mean someone is wrong for calling it that. You guys are just throwing a fit over literally nothing and bashing this dude over shit you don't even fully understand lol
@@Milesco also, if the owner of the car says its a 426 and the motor is obviously a 6.1 and there are obviously 426 stroker kits out there I really don't see how the viewers can't put 2 and 2 together and understand what's happening. Unless you have literally zero deductive capability whatsoever it should be pretty easy to figure out what is going on without getting your panties in a bunch. I also don't understand how people can assume they know more about this guy's car than the dude who literally owns it lmao. That's plain ignorance
Those are clean wheeles, just not on a 1970 challenger
MOPAR!! or GO HOME SONNY!
Just curses to 120 no problem, anyone who thinks for a second that a mustang can even hold a candle to a hemi challenger/charger/charger Daytona is lying to themselves
"cruises"?
Why does it say 426 hemi? It's a modern fuel injected hemi. Still bad ass but false advertising
Agreed. This is a totally wrong and misleading title. This is NOT a 426 Hemi.
Maybe expensive static display in ten, twenty yrs.
Excuse my ignorance but isn't the 6.1 hemi the 392?
Faka Scorpion No, the 392 is the 6.4 hemi.
Mr Azoz thank you
6.1 liters is 372 cubic inches.
Change those wheels please
That’s a disgrace not putting the original 426 hemp with a six pack
"Hemi", not "hemp"! That's a whole different topic! 🍀😄
Also, the 426 Hemi came with dual quads, not a 6-pack.
@@Milesco my bad it was a typo. Those six pack are getting rare.
The 440 Magnum had three two barrel carburetors-a “Six Pack.” The 426 Hemi was equipped with one four barrel carb.
@@Sal.Manila : No, the 426 Hemi came with *_two_* four-barrel carbs.
And the 440 Magnum came with just one four-barrel carb -- a 750-cfm* Carter AFB ("Aluminum Four Barrel"). The 440 Six-Pack is the one that had three two-barrel carbs.
The 440 Magnum (Dodge name) or "Super Commando" (Plymouth version) was rated at 375 horsepower, while the 440 6-pack was rated at 390 hp. (The Hemi was rated at 425 hp.)

I like HEMIs, just not the purests
What is hemi and what's the difference?
TheSauseyCow hemi refers to the shape of the combustion chamber in the head....hemisphereical that is
cool.
Oh wait I think it is a modern hemi lmaooo
just means it's fast
the gen 2 old school hemi sounds better
What year is this?
I think it's a '74
looks like a 72 i think 73 and 74 had the shark gill on the side of the car
The Leroy package rims look like shit !
Rims seriously need to go
6.1 isn't even a real HEMI.. it's a semi-HEMI
wtf the guy did with the wheels
Chrysler 4 ever.
426?
Rims are way to big. This ain’t Midnight Club
Misleading - not an authentic 60s Hemi. Your title should say resto mod or some such.
It's a nice car with a nice engine but it's NOT a 426 Hemi!!!
About 4,6s to 100km lol
Nice looking car (rims excluded) but this is where the legend comes to DIE.......this is NOT a fast car. 0-60 in a pretty lazy amount of time barely matches up with a new 5.7liter powered full sized 4 wheel drive Ram Pick up.......not winning any races in this car. Still though.....damn cool ride anyone would love to show off at a car show.
this is a 318 !!!!
Too bad about the rims.
OMG!!! those wheels are HIDEOUS. Totally GHETTO. Must be owned by a drug dealer, pimp, or gang member.
racist much?
😭🤣😂🤣
@@premium7182 He said something about race? I believe what he listed are "professions" that anyone can be a part of. The fact that you went there is pathetic.
@Richard Skipper I been brainwashed to think that white people are racist??? Lololol
@@daveroles3783 drug dealers , pimps , and gang bangers are mostly????? Thanks for answering the question in your head...
Still pure car porn ....
20 sec to 125 is slow ok
Such a nice piece of american power yet why make it a damn donk... you have taste for cars but not rims. Leave the originals on please
Loose the rims. Your killing that muscle car.
You don't want the rims to be loose! They might fall off!
This is disgusting. Why would u put modern Challenger rims & a 6.1L in it
That's not the original engine. It doesn't even sound right
AWESOME CAR! stupid rims
WHY??? WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE COOL??? THERE NOT! AND IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THAT!
The only non-stock wheels I ever liked on the E-bodies were Keystone Classics!
gearing way to tall
The gearing sucks lol
Way to ruin a nice classic with those rims and that wannabe Hemi.
Wheels suck.
Those rims looks so bad
That's actually slower than a 5.7 Hemi. I would sell that museum piece and buy the new Challenger Demon if you want to make impressive videos.
That would be stupid
idiotic rims for such a nice car
not impressed at all kids charger is faster big time
that thing is kind of ugly
100th dislike. Nobody wants to see a ‘70s challenger w/ a 6.1L and modern rims
ahahahahahha.....my 911 996 carrera 2 is faster.American cars....or how to make noise....only.
