- Pure American muscle! This 426 Hemi powered Charger RT with factory non vinyl top is one of 7 ever produced with this configuration. This beast is guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
Elephant engine, the first predecessor to the new Hellephant Hemi.
There might be cars that go faster, handle and stop better, but none of them will ever be, look or sound as cool as a 68 Hemi R/T Charger.
Actually yes, a 1969 Charger R/T 😎
Holy shit. What you said.
Absolutely agree!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🔥🔥
Actually facts
68’-70’ Chargers have to been the coolest cars ever in my opinion. So awesome!
laughed out loud seeing the cameraman get launched back the second some power was put into it lol
Tesla can never duplicate that experience.
LOL
no... but the Tesla will suck it's headlights out
No replacement for displacement!
@@donwest5387I'm sure Tesla will suck on more than just headlights! 😆
I like how he opens the hood and the whole top end is aluminum heads/ intake. Lol probably runs better then a factory 426
Originally nicknamed the elephant because of the sheer size of the engine, actually.
Fantastic car and refreshing to see a pedigreed car actually being driven, as opposed to merely
stored somewhere safe.
Nothing - I mean *nothing* - sounds like a 426 hemi at full song.
- Ed on the Ridge
Bought my 68 Charger R/T new and still have it.
My first car was a 68 R/T Charger. 2 owner car .1977 was the year. Plenty of stories I have about the time .
This car is immaculate.. 68-70 Chargers will always be my favorite Mopar and car in general. God willing I will have mine someday 🙏
Finally a REAL HEMI!
Growing up we owned a 68’ I was a little kid and didn’t understand the significance of the car, mom drove it mostly but people stared and point, sometimes we got mobbed by people that asked about it, wanted to buy it,wanted to race against it, tried to steal it ect’ it started to get unnerving it was like driving the Batmobile around mom traded it in for a olds 98 Holliday coup which was a very quality car 455 rocket 👍but we miss the charger and wonder where it wound up.
So Beautiful. 1968 Charger. 🎸🎸🎸⛽⛽🐱
Holy smokes I’m sitting on the couch watching this and when you kicked it down I felt like I got sucked back into the couch.
That’s one hell of a Beautiful machine you have. The nicest 68 I have seen. 👍👍 wow
Well we can see you have a vivid imagination!
This car is a 1 of 4 already. The hemi makes it a 1 of 1.
This car is epic, a classic in the auto world.
A black 68 Dodge Charger keeps reminding me about Bill Hickman in BULLITT
It's so nice to see a car with real horsepower! None of that electronical BS, like you said that's real raw American horsepower naturally aspirated balls to the wall baby
I've read that the base engine for the '68 Charger R/T was the 440 Magnum, and the optional engine was the Elephant 426 Hemi.. I once drove one of these cars with the 440 Magnum and it could really scoot down the road. I can only imagine what one with a Hemi could do.
The base for the 68 charger RT was a 383 had one and 70
@@stevenburnes6898 R/T base 440...
They started low with a slant six ,then 318 , 440 and 426 🦣 and have heard 383 too ?
@@andyderby150 The main comment talked about the R/T, not the whole Charger range.
R/T's had 440 - 440 6-pak - or hemi. The base Chargers had the smaller engine options if my memory is correct.
There isn't enough road for that car. Enough safe road anyway. Its awesome.
That's a nice one, came back to see it again. My brother bought a Charger in 1968 with his bonus when he returned from Vietnam. 😊
Never been in a hemi car did take a spin in a 70 Challenger 440 six-pak car. Big block torque just can't beat it!
You lucky mutha. That is my dream car. For 40 years. What a gem
I don't want to beat on the car, like doing a burnout. Then does the mother of all burnouts. NICE ! ! !
4:50.."I dont want to smoke the tyres..."... 5:00 *smokes tyres* 🤣 Epic!
Fantastic! 😁
I was thinking about the same thing. I'm surprised more people did not pickup on it LOL
I would luv to have a 68 69 or70 hemi charger RT
This is my EXACT dream car
Upon returning from his Army time in Vietnam my uncle went to buy one but the insurance was double the cost of the 440 Magnum. His R/T had the 440. Blue with white vinyl top. I remember riding in the car as a youngster. His family owned it until 1981 or ‘82. A stranger approached him and offered cash for it and packing to move out of state he sold it on a bill of sale receipt. Good thing he did because two weeks later he was approached by leo who tracked the R/T back to him. Seems the Charger was used as a get a way car used in bank robberies in the Bay Area and was eventually found abandoned after another successful escape. Uncle was cleared due to bill of sale and alibi of on being on guard on duty at Walla Walla prison during the robbery dates. He had a nice ‘57 Bel Air too.
5:00 Well.....so much for being nice to the tires and wheels!! 😂😂😂
Gorgeous car in sinister triple black with that monster Hemi rumbling under the hood.
Not triple black, it has no vinyl roof ,,,,,triple black or any triple is when the body, the vinyl roof and interior are all same color….got to have vinyl roof to be triple black.
OMG that is one mean Black Betty right there. I can see myself showing off at every green light!! Whoo I see it, I claim it, I win it! Yes sir. ❤
That was awesome !!! Nice 68 r/t !!! I had a 1968 r/t lime green charger back in 1984 I wish I still had it ! My brother had a 1969 r/t in dark metallic green with a 383 ! I love those car's my favorite year's and car 68 & 69 charger r/t
Like the fact he says no reason to beat on the car! In the end he does a burnout anyway!!👍😎
omg what a sweetie i wiil always be a mopar guy owning 2 challengers 71 74 and a 66 coronet only i with hemi a 58 imperial with 392 in high school shop we put glass packs on it lol
I would rather have ONE of these than ten of the new chargers.
Had a friend in highschool with a 69 roadrunner that had an elephant motor and factory stickers that said factory test model and not intended for passenger use
Thumbs up just for the opening shot alone, which was badass.
Nice nice an 440 an or the 383 was an neck snapper too
Oh yes! All of them were plenty powerful. Especially the huge amounts of torque.
The sound of those Hemi mufflers are music to my ears. I was lucky to have owned a '69 Charger R/T that needed a bunch of work. Should have kept it of course ☹
Those engines are a thing of the past unfortunately. Iv always heard of this engine and this video gave me the first dose of what their really about. All I can say is wow and I’m infatuated even more now!
Saw that, felt the power, drove me back to yesteryear and the greatest rush of my life. And yes I was born in the early 60s, grew up owning, driving and ultimately being all things Mopar crazy, wouldn't have it any other way. Love is one thing, however lust is what I feel for that piece of muscle history and the more I look at that car the more I would sell my mom to get it , sorry mom, I do love 💕 you. CAMERON.
My first car was a 67 charger, second 70 Challenger and third a 73 charger SE,, have 9 classic cars now only one Mopar 45 dodge pickup very rare ,, but I have a bad ass 68 Torino that would out run all the Mopars l owned, it's the coupe, really resamples the 69 roadrunner
"I don't want to burn the tires." hehe
Possibly the coolest car ever made... GOD I love this thing! AND THAT NOISE!!!🤤🤤🤤
If you like noise
Faaa amigo que Nave tenes!!!!! El Dodge Charger es puro poder!!!! Saludos desde Argentina
What a car. Simply awesome!
The crickets in the end killed it.
and also doubles as an awesome crop duster ... 5:02 😍👍
I Had the 69 383 4 on the floor and still think it is the altimate style dodge ever made
What a sexy car
Damn would love to have this car
Bugger hooks lol!! TY for the point of ''dont touch the paint'' a pet peeve of mine.
Absolutely perfect!
"No need to be too aggressive on the car." Proceeds to do a burn out right after saying that😂😂😂
Mild burn out 😉
Yah, like a 300 ft. Burn out -Perfect !
Dammnnn !!! Just once in my life would I love to drive a hemi powered car... my brother had a 69 RT 440 6PACK car in the 70's by was to young to drive at the time
Good thing you are not being aggressive. Getting new tires is a good reason to burn up the old ones in my opinion as well. Thanks for the ride.
Looks to me like there could be a little Barton in that engine, regardless, one beautiful car, and one hairy HEMI.
Awesome car, it's funny at 3:35 when he gets on it you can see the camera man being pushed back because of the power of that elephant 😂
Makes my heart race.
My dream car!
thank god for straight roads!
Doesnt wanna be aggressive continues to do a burnout🖤
Holy buckets…these old muscle mopars take off like missiles!
They really do, it's pretty amazing how much faster it is than most modern cars.... And the sound tickles your soul
Most beautiful car ever made
Big block Hemi Beast❤
Не машина - а мечта!!!
The holly grail of muscle cars the best bar none 68 charger
THE MASTER!!
426 Hemi 🤤
I'd give a kidney just to hear that thing rev infront of me.
That is very nice I myself have had a few of those 68 9 charger one of them was the 383 4 speed the rest automatic the one of the 69 Charger Factory Orange from the factory sure wish I'd have that one or any of them of one I had was a 69 RT that I bought for a hundred dollars they were never that nice they were just old cars at people are going to get rid of anyway this was back when you could find him sitting in the local junk yards out of all the old cars I've had those got the most attention you couldn't go to the grocery store get gas or any go anywhere without somebody coming up to you and saying hey man your car is cool or they would want to buy it now if it was for sale would love to have another one just a 383 automatic a driver but I can't touch him they're so expensive now
I feel your pain man" mine was cherry " in the 80"s pulling stuff out of the bone yard for cheap SE had all power A/C but hated the power windows which now I know was a premium rare option, back in the day you could buy a Camaro Chevelle mustang Nova for about five grand not fifty Grand and up
Awesome Machine!
Lusting is great!!!
"I don't want to smoke the tires.." proceeds to lay down 200 foot blackies..
For some reason I thought it would be a little faster than that. ……….JK. Beautiful car
We're not going to roast pavement" stomps the gas" miss my 68" SE power steering power brakes, power windows (hate em pulling window motors out fo Newports, furys ext ) original A/C car, matching no# 383, 323 torque flight , had a built 383 030 904 heads, monster cam that made the head lights not want to open (vac) neutral lil gas" open sesame , had a TCI 2500 stall cheetah manual shift valve body solid motor mounts, 4:10, 4:88 center chunks, pull out the axles drop the drive shaft, to swap ezpz, but 4:88"s was like first first, & first, broil meats down the street" don't miss lashing the valve train " that car had a reputation on and off the track, the biggest mistake I ever made in my entire lifesince I pick that car up in the 80s for next to nothing and now they're worth a ton of money$$$$$$, white , white interior painted red metal flake stripe, wanted to do B5 blue paint my 2 nd car , first car teen ager was a 70" cuda 3 on the floor clutch car 6 cylinder , slower than ketchup, but in great shape 950$ yup" for a complete running car they needed nothing, was going to do it 340 motor swap paint louvers and the go wing but found the charger and had to have it" your video brings back fond memories that you sir" I needed that" wanted to do a 671 blower but it was fast enough , nowadays I would have did twin turbo, born under the hood supercharger, for sure ,
Had I kept it I probably would have opted to get a hemi crate motor rather than any forced induction
Nice.....
Rewound this Video like 30x's in a row Ha HAHA hA ha....... I luv it.
Awesome
Great car no doubt
fk'n beautiful!
i don't blame you brother, i'd baby dat thang too.
all #americanmuscle
WOW RUNS GOOD AS A VW
It must of Ben a 4 speed car ...I seen the yellow reverse lite on the dash down low
The car is an original four speed car. The owner switched it to an automatic when he passed 80 years old. However all of the original parts are in a box on a shelf sitting right next to where the car sleeps at night
@@unofficialuseonlySingle disc or twin disc clutch munsi?
What a Monster ....how fast is it on 100M/ h ?
Is this a factory stock 426 hemi?😳 i knew they were powerful but i didnt expect this.
Yes it is stock other than the upgraded Mopar ignition
@@unofficialuseonly Wow! Thats incredible. I was just watching a few Videos of stock 426 hemis on the dyno and they all made either very close 500hp or sometimes even a little over 500. I guess the whole myth about them being way more powerful than advertised is totally true.
@@KD-nb3mp 500 hp GROSS on a bench is only 370 NET in the car for the 426.......any 2023 5.7 V-8 puts out more.
@@chadhaire1711 What?😂😂😂 Youre clueless arent you? 500hp on the engine dyno is around 440hp to the wheels. My brothers 5.0 foxbody made 360hp on the engine dyno and 305hp to the wheels. Stop the bs kid. Youre lucky if a stock 5.7 makes 300 to the wheels.
@@KD-nb3mp You are an supreme dunce---you don't even understand the difference between GROSS horsepower and NET horsepower. GROSS is a bare engine with no belts, air filter, or muffler. NET is all of the items attached.
The 1970 426 hemi was 425 hp on the bench but 350 hp in the car. It was even less at the rear wheels If a bare engine does 500 hp on the bench, it will drop to 410 with the muffler, belts and air cleaner attached. After that it will have lost even more at the rear wheels NO way 500 hp on the bench will make 440 on the rear wheels...you are full of crap.
We know who the kid is here--......I have been doing this for over 50 years, and I still test factory cars for a living...so take your bullcrap somewhere else.....
For such originality it’s a shame about that stupid shifter and large tac with aftermarket gauges
Worries about the paint being damaged by people's hands. . .
Proceeds to blow the tires off 😂
I never realized there were so few 68 hardtops built. What was the draw of the vinyl top?
Where can i order one 😭
How much does such a beauty cost, if you are lucky enough to buy one ?
🥰🥰🥰🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Has it hawwspowa?
Yes.
Can you show me?
Want you I think U missed the window cause movies have made price through the rouph
Was the 4-speed only dash reverse light added?
No, the car is a 4 speed car. The original owner changed it to an auto-tragic two years ago, as he was in his eighties at the time. However, all of the original 4 speed parts are in a box, waiting to go back in the car.
Great eye!!!
Hemi 4 speed best combo ever" so it was probably a 4 :10 dana rear not 8 3/4
Looks like Wisconsin
Michigan
Love you can give us poor folds a thill
OH NO! it's a corner!
I just crapped in pants 💩👍
Clean yourself up man !
383 Dodge Dart!
3:36-4:04-4:15-5:01
Bo and Luke's Charger should have had a 426 & an 833 4 speed.
whats that rattling sound
How can I get a 3rd generation 426 hellephant engine?
Buy it....... I know a guy who sells them
@@unofficialuseonly please do tell?
Dodge sells new crate motors, pick your hp get your checkbook ready " new gen & old school motors,
I was curious if they were still offering the original design 426. I knew they were for a while a few years back for like $13K.
