- In today's video, I show you how to sublimate on wood using polycrylic! This method will leave you with no residue and vibrant results every time. These particular rounds can actually be sublimated without polycrylic, but if you add this you will get vibrant results, which is the goal with sublimation! This is a game changer for sure.
What you need:
*12 inch Birch Wood rounds: amzn.to/37jVK7C
*Minwax Polycrylic: www.lowes.com/...
*Sandpaper: amzn.to/3fz5OhG
Steps: Apply polycrylic with foam brush, allow to dry for many hours, rub over wood with sandpaper, sublimate at 385 degrees for 65 seconds, remove paper, take a wet sponge rub over wood until any paper is gone, apply polycrylic over final design & dry.

I did mine today and I watched a video where you paint with white paint before the acrylic and it was a mess 😄 I will follow your video next time 🤩😍
I just joined the Beach Bungalow Sub Shop, waiting on my first sublimation printer, I have so much to learn. Thank you for the videos.
Hi Sallie, my wife and I have been watching lots of your videos and we love them!!! We just bought our Cricut and a heat press and sublimation printer! We are so excited and so nervous! 💕 thank you for all the tips and tricks!
Hey Sallie, I'm sure you know this by now, but for anyone not aware, sublimation inks do not permanently bind to organic fibers like cotton or wood. There are tricks you can use, of course, but they aren't reliable enough to sell. With clothing you have to use synthetic material like polyester or rayon, so your idea of you sublimating to wood over a polycrylic coating is absolutely brilliant.
I just added you! I have those wood rounds and watched your video about wood sublimation...soooo glad I did, TY!!
I tried it today with infusible ink and my Cricut heat press and it turned out good just like your first one. Thank you for your video. I now can use my 4x4 plain wood into Xmas ornaments. Wooohooo 🥳
I bought a wood round from dollar store! Gotta try this. Thank you ❤️
Omg! So glad yt recommended this vid!
Thanks so much for watching! 😊
Love all this information on Sublimation using wood with heat press I'm like really doing some research
You're my hero, Sallie!! 😄
I just bought some of the craft circles. This video is very helpful😊. I put the poly coating on and waited over night.
Love that heat press!
WOW!!! I just loved them!!! I just ordered a Star Craft 8 in 1 heat press today and can’t wait until I get it!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise☺️☺️
How is your Star Craft press working out for you?
YOU MUFFIN! Thanks for the shout out! LOVE the video!
I saw where someone commented the wood rounds don’t look smooth. Maybe try sanding with a higher grit and see if that helps. We love 600 grit on our wood products. It makes them REALLY smooth! I can’t wait to try sublimation!
This is such an easy and great gift! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks Sally....I am going to try this for sure!
I purchased a shirt! I’m so excited! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Chloe! 😊
This is great. Can't wait to try it for myslef.
Sally I love your videos, love learning from you.😊
I love this! The wood rounds turned out beautifully...especially the fall one! Thank you so much for sharing!
I was curious about this thin wood warping. Glad you mentioned that.
They look so good with the polycyclic!!! Awesome video!!!
Thank you Sonya!
Thanks for this. I HATE the glossy look of the laminating sheets. It's so very clearly unnatural for wood. This looks fantastic.
This is a game changer!!! Thank you, Sallie!
Thank you ! Was looking to find the best option for my first live edge wood rounds I want to make family ornaments. This helped greatly 🧡
I love this. I make round wood door signs as well as my sublimation and I think these would look amazing in the center of my 18 inch round wood signs as a center piece!
First visit to your channel. This was great and thank you!
How long did you wait for the polycrylic to cure before sublimating on to it?
So cute! Great video!
Fantastic experiment, thank you for putting it online for others
wow thank you so much for sharing this. I need something to put for my wreath center and found some small wood round and thought i wonder if i could sub on these. and found your video .. I can't wait to try .. fingers crossed
Awesome! Hope it works out for you 😊 thanks for watching
Thank you for sharing Sallie. Can't wait to try this with hubby.
What an awesome craft idea! Now I wish I could afford a sublimation printer and a heat press...lol. Some day!😉
3 years later and I’m still
Investing and upgrading constantly. it’s not a cheap hobby by any means!
I ask for bday gifts etc too for supplies and bigger ticket tools/items 😊
Great video, wood rounds arrived yesterday so I'm going to give it a try. Thank you so much!
You are amazing! This is the first time I have seen one of your videos. I'm thinking you are probably a teacher...and if not, you should be!!! You are very thorough in your explanation. I can't wait to try this. I do have one question: What do you put on the back to hang them up?
Thank you so much!! I am not a teacher but I do appreciate the compliment! So I haven't had to hang these yet, but if I did I would probably use some type of double sided hanging tape since they are so lightweight and thin. You may could use sawtooth hangers but the screws might be too long.
Hi Sallie! I have been doing layering for over a year now and wanted to add a little something extra so I just bought an Epson EcoTank to turn into a sublimation printer. I'm so excited to hopefully intertwine the 2 together.
Me too! Got such a great deal I could no longer say it's too expensive lol These Eco Tanks are awesome e machines. Just make sure to you run a few prints each week or the head dries up. Mission to get it clean again.
I love this video! I can't wait to make some!
Can you paint the board with white acrylic paint...
then put the polycrylic on it.. I know the white will give it a real good background
Wow! Thanks for sharing, definitely will be trying this! May I ask why the wood had to be sanded?
Maybe it would come out good using sublicoat clear instead of polycrylic
Sallie, I have never clicked so fast 😆
Thanks for the support Doris!
Great video! I’m super excited to try this.
I love your projects and your sweet spirit! Do you have a large sublimation printer? Your printouts look the perfect size!
Can you do the same technique on a wood round that is painted white and has polycrylic on top?
Yes one coats before use the heat press after is the second .? Thank beautiful job
awesome Sally! As always thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Thank you for the tutorial!!! ❤️❤️
great tutorial! Can I ask what printer/ink/paper you're using? Thanks!
I love them 😍
Amazing tips and tricks as always! Thanks 😊
I was wondering if you could put a gloss sealer on the fade one - that should make the color pop - should be sealed anyway if your gonna have it outside - nice tutorials tyvm
I wonder if this basically gives the same effect as painting the wood white first or using a white canvas and then layering clear laminate over it and then going ahead and sublimating and pressing the image?
LOVE THIS! ❤️
That was very interesting that made me subscribed to your channel.
See you on your next project Sallie.👍
These are fabulous xx I am wondering what printer you used for the larger prints?
Loved it! Thanks for sharing!!
Love it. Thank you
Great video! Thank you!
Great video.thank you
Hi, so just watching this video and love it, but Im more interested in HOW you printed your designs on the paper.
Awesome video! Thank you!!
I love this video! Do you have a video showing what brand of heat press/printers you use? I've heard horror stories and don't want to spend a lot of money on something that won't work 😬
Hi! Yes I do, it is a few months back on how to sublimate a shirt. I go over all the details there
Hey there! love your videos. How do you make or design your prints? I have an Epson 2720. I use the poster print for larger prints but can't get it exactly 12 inches around or larger.
I have wanted to know about this. Didn't even know what it was even called. Are there places I can go to to make something
very helpful!
Neat idea. Thanks for sharing
Watch this video . So rewarding right!
I wonder if after it’s pressed, if you put a thin coat of polyurethane on it to make it shine how that would turn out?
I noticed that those particular wood rounds don’t look smooth after sublimation. Maybe they need more sanding before applying the polycrylic. Unless it is from wrinkling of the paper. This is a great idea. Thanks for the video!
i noticed that too. its looks like wrinkled paper. unless the image was like that lol
I am pretty new to this but I think you may also be able to use lamination paper to press on before the design. It may be easier than using polyacrylic and then sanding.
Have you tried this yet? I’m curious how it turned out. 😃
@@bridgetburdick6791 It does work. I just did it tonight and have done it in the past also. Separate the sheet. Lay the glossy side up over your wood. Press at 400 for 30 seconds to tack the laminate on the wood. Grab your design and lay it down on top of the laminate and tape it to the item. Press for 30 seconds. Wait for it to cool. Remove only the paper (might need a little water to remove). Works and is very vibrant!
@@wererich I’ve seen it done with laminating paper too, but it’s too glossy for my liking. Do you know if it comes in a more matte finish?
Love it thank you for sharing ✨✨💕
Awesome video, Sallie! Thank you so much!😊 Your videos are always amazing.
I love this thanks for sharing!@
Have you tried painting it white?
Great to know!
What would the process be if you painted the wood white first?
What polycrylic did you use? These look great. i notice that there is clear matte, clear gloss, etc. Thanks
Can you apply this to wood that is already painted or does it have to be applied directly to the wood?
Can you please tell me how to keep the wood rounds from warping?!?! Every single one of mine warp!
Thank you for sharing your great ideas. Could you tell me what the rule
of thumb is for sizing the image, exsample a small shirt vs a large
shirt?
Will you share where you purchased those designs?? I love them both!!
Me too!!! I have been looking for the rainbow one for almost 2 weeks and I want to make my partner (1st year) teacher a gift with it on it.
Can you paint the wood white first or a different color and then put poly on it then sub the picture?
Just found your videos and love them. I am learning so much!!! Can you tell me what size sublimation paper you are using for a 14" round and where you are purchasing it at. Thank you! I apprecaite you!!!
I cant seem to keep my polycrylic from melting when I apply the heat. I've tried it 2 times and I cant understand what I'm doing wrong 😔
First thanks for sharing! My question: Have you tried placing Oracle 651 on the Polycrylic coat?
Thanks for sharing your process! Very beautiful work! What brand heat press is that?
What sublimation paper did you use on this project? Thanks
Hello, can you sublimate on chipboard? Wanting to make a planner cover, not sure how to go about that
Fantastic results!! So creative- love it!! What do you use to create your transfer designs? A laser printer?
You have to have a sublimination printer with sublimination ink to print images or you can buy them alteady made ready to transfer…you need heat to transfer the image to a blank
Love your videos Can! Can you please tell me what type of paper n printer do you use to make prints for 18 inch rounds? Thank you
So you don’t have to use laminate? I’m new to sub, and saw everyone doing lamination on the wood- but I don’t like the glossy look AT ALL! So- yours is awesome!! And NOT glossy!😂
Love these. Thanks for sharing. Did you create your images?
Can you paint the wood round white and THEN put the polycrylic on top of that and then sublimate?
I'm going to try this next!
Yay! I’m curious to see how it turns out!
Acrylic paint dry sand then polycrylic dry sand and sublimate. You must use mdf
@@pietpompiepompiepiet940 what's MDF
@@hellahookinothercrafts2507 it is medium density fibreboard
Please do share your color profile. They are amazing colors. And are you printing from silhouette?
Hello and thank you for testing. What printer did you use?
I think if you do the poly on both sides it should warp less,
Sallie-do you know if you can do sublimation on a painted wood circle?
Pictures would be really cool!
I'm going to try this too!
Beautiful!!! What sublimation printer did you use on this, please?
