This video deserves way more views. I enjoyed listening to your experience during the build up and post hype of episode 7. Looking forward to a similar video from you about episode 8
I liked it in the theater but the rub is I was there with my dad and sister where we never really got to see any of the other SW films in theaters (money was tight and I wasn't around in the 70's or 80's) The sad thing is the other two times I watched this film at home, it got worse. (the lack of new ship and vehicle designs for me didn't help) I also got into Star Wars when I was young ( I was about 3 myself and this was a few years before TPM came out) ran down the OT VHS tapes like no other, watched them almost every year.
7 years ago I had just started high school. I remember when the trailer for this movie dropped. I grew up on the prequels. I did not watch the originals until my early teenage years. The hype for The Force Awakens was unreal. I remember my friends being so excited. Star Wars has always been a big part of my life. Anakin is my favorite character because of his character. Not because he is the main character or chosen one. His and Luke’s character in my opinion is the most relatable. Feeling like you know you can do more, but in doing more you can cause tragedy like in the sense of Darth Vader or you can create a positive impact like Luke. Anakin’s personality has always felt more relatable to me. I can not wait to see your future Star Wars video Mr. WorldofGeekdom.
This definitely was there top movie for the sequel trilogy. I remember how excited i was for alot of star wars stuff. Rebels season 2 was going on Ashoka vs Vader was coming this movie was on its way the hype was real for star wars during that time.
To be honest, there should've been a TV series similar to both "The Mandalorian" and "Andor" in terms of filling in the gap between "Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi" and "Episode VII: The Force Awakens"
The more think about it, The Mandalorian is basically that TV series that fills in the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Sure that’s not the purpose of the series but there’s surprisedly been some moments where it fills the gap between those two movies.
You’ve got a new subscriber. I agree with everything you’ve stated. Everything was reasonable and positive as opposed to how so many others view it. The hype. The hype for this movie and its aftermath were some of the best experiences I’ve ever felt. I love everything about this movie except for what happened to Phasma but at least she shines in the next one. All the new characters felt cool and new at least to me. I don’t know if you are a Lego fan or have time for video games but I recommend Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It adds SO MUCH to the background of the movie and even has added dialogue with the WHOLE CAST including Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher! Honestly this movie is amazing. It’s a damn shame what happened to it.
Even rehashing the Episode IV plot was bad, insofar that they had enough talent and resources at their disposal to make a good, original story. What came after was inexcusable, and they clearly didn't have a solid plan. I found myself revisiting this film, as well, and I did like a lot of it. I just wish it had turned out differently.
Geekdom101 this is why I watch your channels. U can told a good movie when see it. The force awakens is flawed, but still a really good movie and this video is fair.
Definitely the best of the sequel trilogy for me. Yes, it was a modern day New Hope, but this was still a good movie. This movie set up a lot of potential for the sequel trilogy. But on its own: The Force Awakens was good.
Agree with you a 100% on this. When I left the theater after The Force Awakens I was excited honestly. I felt they had something going. And then the next movies come out and now when I watch ep7 I just go meh. It is the start of something I don’t accept anymore. I do feel like if they didn’t do Luke dirty. If we got the old trio for one last bout, at least not make Luke a weirdo wuss, I would of loved these movies, but alas nothing. Thanks Disney.
The hype was indeed incredible, I also watched The Force Awakens twice at the theater, something I rarely do. You are right to point out that Star Wars USED TO BE, the greatest franchise ever existed, we shouldn't forget that Force Awakens in STILL the highest grossing movie of all time domestically (in the US) with 937M, which is extremely hard to surpass. But interest for Star Wars movies deteriorated so sharply, and this is a sign that shows the mishandling. Also there were so many movie plans, which were all cancelled, or turned into TV shows. Star Wars used to be the King of the Blockbusters, the King of the movie theaters. Not anymore.
I liked this trilogy accept for The Last Jedi even though it was my least favorite. Kylo carried this on his shoulders. Still salty how they treated Smoke so much potential 💯.
The movie relies heavily on mystery and unanswered questions to be good. When those questions have no answer the movie works but after those questions have been answered unsatisfactory, the movie enjoyment takes a major hit. The best of the sequels but that isn't saying much, Disney's lack of content in that Era shows that the whole story is so messed up that they can't tell a competent story based on the sequels
I knew this movie was a mirror to Ep4, but understood why. A lot of fans did a lot of complaining about the prequels and it made sense for Disney to start off with something familiar and nostalgic. Who would have thought the thematic payoff to that, Disney getting to show their stuff in a more original story, was Rogue One and not the rest of the trilogy? I wanted to love the sequel characters. I was willing to cut Rey some slack, she clearly got some incomplete knowledge from Kylo's botched mind probe, and only fought him after he was worn down and injured. But everything Disney has done since then only serves to weaken this movie. I have no desire to go back because I know where it leads, and it doesn't have enough of a definitive end to really enjoy the movie by itself.
I think Rey being a Palpatine is a cool idea Kylo being a skywalker who is dark and struggles with the light side while Rey being light and struggling with the dark is a interesting idea. One being from a light lineage and being dark, the other from a dark lineage and being light.
I wonder if you are gonna watch Andor that ended recently, since everyone is praising it and saying its the best thing Disney did with Star Wars so far.
Say what you want about this movie but it was FUN. Harrison Ford was awesome. A lot of cool stuff was set up, I was genuinely curious where the franchise would go… only for it to be completely ruined by the next movie. All they had to do was write a decent story and give Luke one last hoorah in TLJ. How dumb can you be? It’s actually tragic They should just retcon 8 & 9 and try again. It’s not too late.
I'd love for you to talk about the "Jumanji" films starring Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart because Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jack Kasdan co-wrote 2017's "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle"
I didn’t care that this film relied heavily on nostalgia. I enjoyed this movie and was hopeful for the future of Star Wars. Little did I know how awful the next 2 films would be. Still, 2015 was an exciting time to be a fan
The cloning aspect of Snoke was the best thing TROS did imo and it makes sense because Palpatines contingency and plan from the 90s comics and even in AOTC and ROTS heavily involves cloning and the desire to surpass death through cloning and transferring life essence from vessel to vessel.
I’ll never forget the hype for this movie. After watching TCW movie in the theater I thought we would never hear that music in the theater again. The hype was so real and to this day, had never been matched again. Even though these movies were not well put together from an overall story perspective I think in retrospect, Especially TFA alone as it isnt as bad as people say it is. It for sure is pretty dookie compared to various of stories of the the shows, games, and even the comics. However it’s very fun and heartwarming even if most those emotions are fueled by nostalgia.
2015 was a great year for me as well, probably the best. On top of that some of my favorite franchises made a return that year (Dragon Ball with ROF and then Super, Star Wars and Rocky through Creed).
Man I used to love Urban acolyte but the last few videos I watched last year he started getting really mean and rude and judgmental which is really weird for a guy who used to make videos based on the Jedi religion, so I had to unsubscribe which really sucks cuz he had some good stuff but I just got tired of hearing him be so rude
Funny enough, I was just thinking about the Christmas when my cousin's, brother, and I went to see this. Despite my feelings on the trilogy, I'll never forget how excited I was to see Star Wars on the big screen for the first time. I had a lot of fun that night...
People can say whatever they want or call people fake or wusses for their reactions to this movie but dude I absolutely bald a couple times and I for the first time ever in any movie audibly yelled no when Han got stabbed. I have literally never yelled at a movie especially in a theater before ever in my life and that is the only time it has ever happened
Im with you on this one I had high hopes for the next 2 movies and even with the last jedi which is my least favorite movie they still could've saved themselves
I agree with you 100%. Force Awakens is mundane and pointless to watch in retrospect of its sequels. Its simply a movie of red herrings. Absolutely no payoff or reason to watch it. The tug of war between JJ and Rian is ridiculous and a complete business blunder. Lor Santeka was never explained. We never know how Lukes light saber was found. We never really get a solid answer about Rey being on Jakku. Finn was setup to be an awesome character then just completely destroyed in the sequels. We never find out why the 1st Order even is. We never find out why the New Republic needs to sponsor a resistance. Snoke was setup to be a great mysterious character then destroyed. The Knights of Ren are never explained. Captain Phasma had potential, yet again the character destroyed. Need I go on? These are all questions and threads the sequels should have properly addressed. Instead we have a battle of egos and incompetent corporate management.
Honestly, I feel like if J.J. Abrams was the writer for the entire trilogy, it'd probably be a more satisfying trilogy. He put in some interesting ideas and intriguing mysteries. Imagine if he was the writer on last jedi, he's got a good grasp on the characters as seen in this movie with Han and Chewie. So my theory is that J.J. did have a road map, and most likely told Ryan Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy but decided to wipe their asses with it. I could be wrong, but I feel like at least some of what I say is the truth.
I remember when I first heard that there would be two different directors my impression was that seems like a pretty bad idea but I guess they know what they are doing but clearly they didn't and it kind stuns me that they made such careless mistakes with these
Geeldom I cannot wait for your next video on movie #8… I still remember your original review ending with “duck this movie” or something along those lines haha
When it first came out it was one of my favorite star wars movies. But now everytime I watch it, I still enjoy it but it has taken a major hit. It's hurt by the last two movies because the potential was there to be the start of something great but it ended up getting hurt by the the last two movies. But like I say and will continue to say the sequel trilogy had great ideas but the execution failed.
I think VII is good with some bad moments, while VIII, and IX are bad with some good moments. I didn't see VII, or VIII in theaters, but I did go to see IX. My older brother, and I left IX saying it was a bad movie, but I enjoyed it, because it was fun. I just enjoyed the action, but as a movie it was bad. If JJ made all 3 movies I believe the Trilogy would have at least been overall good(or at least more well received than it is). I'm sure JJ(an Co.)had ideas for where the mysteries he opened up would go, but due to him not doing VIII he had to throw all that away for IX. I firmly believe what was set up in VII could lead to Ray being a Palpatine, but nothing in VIII supports that. Now we all know VII made it obvious that Luke was Ray's father, or at least related to him in some way(perhaps another child of Leia's, One of his students he thought was dead, etc.), but almost any outcome of her identity would've been fine if it didn't change multiple times.
I knew something was off about this movie within the first few minutes. Left the cinema totally deflated at the end. Biggest missed opportunity in cinema history, with so many wrong turns.
crazy man i was hearing you talk about Johnson's TLJ before it came out and this year the governor of florida took disneyworlds tax exemption status. here's to hoping for the death of disney comes sometime in the next 7 years 🙏
Why do people always forget that George Lucas was actually in the process of making episode 7 right before he sold it? That was actually one of the main reasons he sold it
I still think The Force Awakens is the worst Star Wars movie. The only good thing about this and and the sequel trilogy as a whole is that is made people appreciate the prequel trilogy more.
Literally was excited because I thought Finn was going to be a Jedi or force user. Such a disappointment and point bait and switch from all the trailers. I liked your idea with Luke erasing Rey’s memory that would’ve made a lot more sense.
I'd argue episode 9 was worse because they made up some of the most dumbest they found on Reddit fan theories and shoved it into a god fucking awfully paced film where they just made up shit as it went along
Awesome video. I enjoyed tfa a good bit. All the characters were interesting and it’s a solid start to a trilogy. They just shouldn’t have made this part of the “skywalker saga”. If it’s it’s own random trilogy it’s fine. Do that and don’t kill luke and it’s all good! Massive blunder in last jedi
Geekdom is a lazy creator who fence sits on different franchises and barely watches all of the Godzilla movies and he reviews them out of order which is a mess and honestly I do not trust geekdom when it comes to his movies reviews
It has not aged well at all, especially after Andor. I tried watching it a few weeks ago and had to shut it off after 20 minutes. If you like it, great. But the dialog and overall tone is just so off-putting for me.
I think it was a good movie it started off with some good ideas they should have kept those ideas they should have had a plan you're lying if you said you weren't excited in that movie theater... Yes it had problems I'm not saying it was perfect but still.
Its my 3rd favorite Star Wars movie and I like it better than A New Hope. There are a couple of things people need to know. One there's the ring theory which is something Lucas implemented with his prequels. What it is is that Lucas took the structure of the OT and put it in his prequels. So for example a mentor is killed in the first act like Obi-Wan for A New Hope and then Qui-Gon for Phantom Menace or the main characters split in Empire and the main characters split in Attack of the Clones. While people can write off TFA as a ripoff, and you have a right to not like it, but TFA does use the ring theory like the prequels. Second off, and people don't want to hear this but they have to, people want to pretend the hate for the prequels didn't happen but they were completely despised. The reason TFA is what it is is to help get Star Wars back on track and back it's roots which if you asked every fan back in the 2000s, its something everyone wanted. TFA is a perfect 1st act and it's a damn shame Rian dropped the ball completely with TLJ as it's a poor 2nd act. Personally I was JJ was in charge of the whole trilogy. They didn't need a plan necessarily, but they needed a unified vision which sadly this trilogy didn't have
I'm just going to comment as I listen. In regards to the build up of the movie, I loved how the big surprise was Finn showing up without his helmet on. I thought they were really trying to hook people. I was surprised and very saddened by the racism towards him though. It was very prevalent
The reason I love Rei being a nobody is awesome is because it's rare to have someone build themselves up to amazing ness without being tied to a bloodline. It kinda reminds me of Goku. You don't have to be special to make yourself special.
TFA is garbage. While it is the best of the three it’s like comparing mud to feces. Mud stinks less. At its core it’s a worse ANH. A soulless, bland copy that superficially calls back to that movie without getting why it worked. There is a reason why to this day screenwriters use ANH to teach the basics of the hero’s journey. What JJ Abrams put forth was a dumb mystery box, incoherent world building and truly awful characters. To think that the old expanded universe was nuked for this derivative mess hurts my soul. If I had to give one positive it is Rey’s introduction because it was a nice bit of visual storytelling. But that’s really it. It’s a movie that duped fans( myself included) at the time that LF knew what they were doing. And with all the pieces on display I can happy call this movie for what it is: trash.
I was heavily disappointing. Disappointing. I expected more out of the sequel trilogy, and I just never watch anything be on the force awakening because I felt more like a marvel movie than a Star Wars movie. I was also heavily disappointed with Marvel movies too, because I was expecting more out of them too. I was so disappointed and very unimpressed, because they felt too similar to one another and felt very predictable after watching Iron Man one. I am at two, Captain America, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, all five of these movies were not impressive and to meta for my liking.
Still shite. Controversially, I rewatched rogue one after finishing Andor (which started off crap then really picked up), and now I have a better understanding of it all, I actually like it.
I will agree tha The Force Awakens is the best of the trilogy but not a good movie in general. Too me it feels like all set up and fan service but no substance especially when you know the full story behind the scenes. The only Disney Star Wars movie i would say is good to some degree is Rouge One.
The theories after this movie were really fun and more interesting than what we actually ended up getting
agree, and all just for the sake of subverting expectations...
Clone Wars in a nutshell :P
This film will always hold a special place in my heart because this was my first experience of watching Star Wars on the big screen.
It was actually my first Star Wars movie in my life.

In an alternate universe, the sequels are the best trilogy since the originals and the prequels are still the blacksheep of the franchise...maybe.
Disagree its the worst to me
crazy man i was hearing you talk about Johnson's TLJ before it came out and this year the governor of florida took disneyworlds tax exemption status. here's to hoping for the death of disney comes sometime in the next 7 years 🙏
this movie created a lot questions and excitement regarding what disney had planned for SW and it turned out they had no plan 😂
Why do people always forget that George Lucas was actually in the process of making episode 7 right before he sold it? That was actually one of the main reasons he sold it
When the storm troopers looked too modern and less intimidating, felt like a red flag
I have not seen any of the Disney Star Wars sequels.
And proud!
👍
I still think The Force Awakens is the worst Star Wars movie. The only good thing about this and and the sequel trilogy as a whole is that is made people appreciate the prequel trilogy more.
The least awful from the new trilogy that's for sure. That's all I'll give it.
Everybody was proud about a 6/10 movie at best without being too critical about it.
I enjoyed it! At least when I first watched. Next couple movies really hurt it tho.
Literally was excited because I thought Finn was going to be a Jedi or force user. Such a disappointment and point bait and switch from all the trailers.
I liked your idea with Luke erasing Rey’s memory that would’ve made a lot more sense.
Oh boy, I can't wait for The Last Jedi film. Force Awakens may have been a rip off but TLJ actually killed Star Wars
By far the worst movie I’ve ever seen.
Same here.
I'd argue episode 9 was worse because they made up some of the most dumbest they found on Reddit fan theories and shoved it into a god fucking awfully paced film where they just made up shit as it went along
@@Jay-hy6rl 9 at least tells a story, 7 is all setup to 8 that negates it.
Damn, that was a quick 7 years
Hey what happened to your watch through of the Gojira movies? Weren't you going to be watching all of them and reviewing them?
Geekdom is a lazy creator who fence sits on different franchises and barely watches all of the Godzilla movies and he reviews them out of order which is a mess and honestly I do not trust geekdom when it comes to his movies reviews
Pre Trump/Brexit and the rise of fascism... simpler times back then!
Was I the friend who thought you were pranking him about the news of a Sequel Trilogy?
It has not aged well at all, especially after Andor. I tried watching it a few weeks ago and had to shut it off after 20 minutes. If you like it, great. But the dialog and overall tone is just so off-putting for me.
I loved this movie! Oh the anticipation for the next movie!😁😩😢
And then, the movie turned out to be plagiarized, superficial garbage. The only memorable scene was the death of Han Solo.
The worst Star Wars movie ever made. Although Rogue One is a close second 🙈
I think it was a good movie it started off with some good ideas they should have kept those ideas they should have had a plan you're lying if you said you weren't excited in that movie theater... Yes it had problems I'm not saying it was perfect but still.
I love how sincere Danny is, that's why he's the 🐐
Its my 3rd favorite Star Wars movie and I like it better than A New Hope. They didn't need a plan necessarily, but they needed a unified vision which sadly this trilogy didn't have
Danny I hate to be the one to tell you this, but what they did with Luke was ripped from Lucas' treatments
Exactly, Lucas verbatim said his plan was similar to this. If anything it'd probably rile the fanbase more than ever.
The Force Awakens is a overrated rehash of A New Hope.
It was a good start but I like ep 8 more
I'm just going to comment as I listen.
@@mostcreativename1 and only for that to be ruined so fuck this trilogy
2 years between movies is fine IF ALL SCRIPTS ARE PRE-WRITTEN.
What they did to Luke is what killed the trilogy for me!
I cant stand any of the sequel trilogy.
They're all shit.
I agree with you so much and the later movies made it even worse
I was heavily disappointing. Disappointing. I expected more out of the sequel trilogy, and I just never watch anything be on the force awakening because I felt more like a marvel movie than a Star Wars movie. I was also heavily disappointed with Marvel movies too, because I was expecting more out of them too. I was so disappointed and very unimpressed, because they felt too similar to one another and felt very predictable after watching Iron Man one. I am at two, Captain America, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, all five of these movies were not impressive and to meta for my liking.
What a loser
Wow you don't like anything 😂😂😂😂
Force Awakens is my favorite non original trilogy movie slightly ahead of Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One
The "hate" for the prequels is so ridiculous, (I never really saw it). And that's why we got crap! 🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
This is technically a good movie BUT since its clearly such a shameless COPY PASTE of the OT I hated it
Still shite.
Controversially, I rewatched rogue one after finishing Andor (which started off crap then really picked up), and now I have a better understanding of it all, I actually like it.
This movie was good...but it got worse as they continued to release more movies.
I will agree tha The Force Awakens is the best of the trilogy but not a good movie in general. Too me it feels like all set up and fan service but no substance especially when you know the full story behind the scenes. The only Disney Star Wars movie i would say is good to some degree is Rouge One.
Reylo's ruined the sequel trilogy
