  • In this video I remove the quieter bassy baffles and install ‪@DKCustomProducts‬ torque inserts. Instructions were easy to follow. The Vance and hines slipons were a little tough to get right. Definite change in riding on the highway and overtaking.

    To get that deep low down rumble you usually need pipes with bigger diameter, I just put a set of 4.5 inch TAB slip Ons on my M8 and the sound is much, MUCH better. I also removed the cat, which to me is a MUST! The M8 is never gonna sound as good as your Twin Cam, but these TABS get me closer! My biggest problem is explaining to the wife why I NEEDED these pipes! LOL!! Loud pipes save lives, right! YES!!! Beautiful Bike Brother!

      haha they may save lives but it seems they ruin marriages ? :D the best idea I have had is I simply need a second bike. A shovel or a panhead. to get that sound I want. The M8 though gets super close to the sound. Ridden with some fellas with M8 and they have the rumble.

    Lots of cool research. DK customs makes some quality stuff. So, I have a 2012 Street Bob with the 96ci. I am convinced that the best sounding exhaust is the ThunderHeader or in Australia the RedThunder or something like that for Twin Cam engines. The only way we could really get that authentic Potato-Potato sound is get a Shovel Head. Aloha 🍍

    Nice scoot, it sounds pretty good to me, although my 21 bob has those thunder torque inserts in the stock slips with the baffles removed. The sound is a little throaty compared to what the V&H slips sound like but it'll do till I get around to getting the V&H.

    I made a set of them a while ago for my 82 Shovel with 1 3/4 pipes, they worked ok for a short time but then they ripped the mounting holes and even lost one so I shoved in a set of torque cones and they work a treat. In the early days, there was another trick with just a bolt and nut and you just experiment with size to get the sound you want but in later years EVO and up you will never get that sound

    • @theobviouschicken
      @theobviouschicken  6 месяцев назад

      Turned them around to 45 degrees and that seems to be the sweet spot. I reckon these. Will get more for the second bike when that arrives. Probably/hopefully a shovel actually.

    For the past few years, I've been considering buying a new or newish Heritage because it would be better on the highway than my Sportster. Every time I think about trading in my Sportster, I know that the dealership wouldn't even come close to giving me what's it's worth and I know that leaving it behind would just break my heart. Regardless of if I ever buy another bike, my Sportster is staying with me. It was my first HD bike and I just can't bear the thought of it being with anyone else.

    Did the thunder torques help with the decel pop ? Nice video

    • @theobviouschicken
      @theobviouschicken  10 месяцев назад +2

      Yes and no. Installing them 90 degrees as in the video reduced decel pop to nothing. However I wanted a little more bass to the sound so rotated them 45 degrees this added a decel pop but only if I do something stupid like changing down way too early at speed. I rate them make a good sound and my bum dyno thinks its added a HP or 2 . I also like decel pop. I dont understand peoples dislike of it. So wasnt phased if it returned.

      Sort of. There was a difference initially but like all things you get used to it. The lower end was a little stronger i suppose. I am sure there are gains on a dyno but basically the average bloke on the road isnt riding a dyno . I'not sure my butt dyno can feel the difference of 1 - 2 hp. The difference in tone was the key here. And really the only reason I installed them if I am brutally honest. The mod was cheap and easy to reverse if you dont like them. I will say The volume increase has become a problem . Might do a quick long term video with the pros and cons actually. Thanks for watching.

    I have a '99 TC88 FXDL with CV carb and the V&H straight shots slip ons with quite baffles. Super Q might be ok with standard cams and EFi but for anything with a bit more overlap and a CV they are a bad plan. I don't get why anyone makes their bike loud then wears earplugs for anything other than long trips at the same rev.
    I'd have a Vincent silver shadow parked in the house if money was no object.

      Hey fellas. Been tweaking the angles of the inserts. ( which have stayed in and are going to continue to stay ) Way more happier.
      What I am thinking is the issue is I want a shovelhead sound from a twincam 96 stage 1 and it aint gonna happen without cams + full exhaust + possible big bore etc. or probably the more intelligent option is to buy a shovelhead.
      Keep making the cool stuff I regularly watch your videos.

      Yeah, to get the old potato potato sound on a Twin Cam, going with some loping cams will get you closer. as will a tune that is rich at a lower idle. Big bore and full exhaust is unlikely to help.
      Enjoy your ride!

    I used the two butterfly valves out of a Subaru forester. late 90's. I could manuallu adjust as needed and they fit with 4mm gap all-round when closed. A copper wanted to test my Superglide decibel reading. LOL I said I have to "close the valves" first,, oh! reading was less than a goldwing. I explained the law has NOT changed in Australia for HD and INDIAN, where "an EXHAUST valve be fitted for use in built up areas".....Some old rides still have the cable on the left side for these valves..

    Looking at your video you seem to have the thunder torques in the wrong way...the sculptured side is supposed to face towards the engine and the dish side towards the end....you may not be getting the best from them!You also don’t have to remove the baffles if you don’t want to.Just saying.....😊

      Hello Robert i had them the wrong way round. Have been playing with the best options and they are now not only the correct way but are now sitting at around 50 - 60 degrees perpendicular to the air flow. Seemed to be the best for me.

    DK inserts create back pressure also ... Even race car engines needs a certain amount back pressure unless you are dumping a whole bunch of fuel for a short distance ! To run to run efficiently and optimal you need BP .

    • @ArchimedeanEye
      @ArchimedeanEye 11 месяцев назад +9

      Wrong. You want zero back pressure. Back pressure is restriction. Can you explain how a restriction in gas flow leads to improved efficiency and power. It doesn't. What you want is as close to zero back pressure as possible with good gas velocity with minimal reversion. This is not the same as back pressure. I promise you, if you read any scientific book or article on back pressure, it's not what you want in a 4 stroke engine.

    • @aurozappa305
      @aurozappa305 11 месяцев назад +6

      You have no idea of what you are talking about .... try it and see how well your bike run without zero back pressure ... Just chop off your exhaust , you don't need it .@@ArchimedeanEye

    I can't find anyone that actually say these help with torque other than the two guys that sell these out of thier garage. Supposedly s and s did a dyno on these but I can't find a reason to believe that they didn't just tune a bike to show improvement. For anyone of you that don't know Harleys run like shit from the factory. And it is recommended that you get a tuner and throw it on a dyno to get the most out of your bike. Most of this due to California regulations. Easier to just tune them all the same instead of a special shipment to Cali. For all those claiming back pressure is needed, stop talking. Why do 6500hp dragsters run zoomies? Why don't they have mufflers? These are a gimmick, and this guy doesn't even mention the 20% torque increase the people claim these make from installing these. He basically just mumbles about the sound and seems to be all he's really concerned with. As well as any other video I can find on these. I've been trying to find videos actually talking about the performance improvement and it seems like everyone forgets about this part of the product.

    You have a nice bike there. Great colors. I have a nice '09 Sportster 1200 Custom (XL1200C).
    Here's my vid so you can hear what it sounds like... ruclips.net/video/xMkPTHMbsp8/видео.html
    I put on V&H 3" Twin-Slash slip-ons with the quiet-baffles and I really love the sound and the power gain. Since my video, I've put on an Arlen Ness inverted high-flow air cleaner and a V&H FP3 tuner and I just love the result. The quiet baffles have a straight-thru path so they are not restrictive. There is wadding around the baffle. I enjoy the low rumble very much. The standard baffle sounds a little more harsh in the higher frequencies than the quiet baffles. The quiet baffles are only a couple dB quieter than the standard baffle so the difference in volume is hardly noticeable. The difference is that the quiet baffle has a more obvious lower pitch sound.
    If you haven't done so already, I recommend that you replace your stock rear shocks with something better such as a Progressive 412. I have those on my bike now and the ride is so much better, I couldn't believe the difference. I recently put on a Mustang solo seat and I really like it too, way better than any Harley seat. With all the mods, I feel like I have a new bike. The performance and ride quality is way better than factory.

      oddly enough I was looking at lowering the rear end for that sit down norcal look but its a hefty bike to do that style to it. Got the progressives on a list of things to do but got my eye on another bike before that! thanks for watching.
