  • I installed Quiet Baffles into my Vance & Hines Straight Shots HS on my 2005 Harley Sportster. In this video I compare the sound of open pipes vs. V&H stock baffles vs. V&H Quiet Baffles

    I feel this video is the gold standard that all other vehical exhaust videos should be modeled after.

      While I think his side-by-side comparisons are a great idea and spot on, it's important to keep in mind that
      by using wire to reduce the thickness of the fiberglass insulation on the baffles he is effectively reducing their performance and their intended purpose!!

    This is the right way to compare things on you tube !
    I personally liked the quiet baffles but after looking at the over cost of the V&H pipes and baffles I think I will be better off w/ stock pipes and money to ride on.

    Very well put. I bought a set of quiet baffles for my 2009 fxdc and they're just right. When you get on it it barks but when you're not it sounds nice. All said, I'm glad I have very cool next door neighbors.......

    I installed the quiet baffles on a 2014 Street Bob in Big Shots staggered after watching your vid. I was a bit sceptic but I'm very happy with the result. They take the sharp edge of the noise and now the bike sounds great. Not quiet at all; just much more comfortable. Nice roar... Thanks!

    I like stock baffles the best, maybe on the weekends to piss off the neighbors I'd go with no baffles but the "silenced" quiet baffles I'm not a fan of at all it jus don't sound like a harley should, that's jus my opinion tho nice comparison buddy thanks for uploading

    I have a 99 1200xlc, previous owner removed the baffles and it was obscenely loud, just like in the video. Got some similar type fiberglass covered baffles, and similar type results, very pleased! Great and accurate video!
    I should have noted how you used the wire, because the tape provided did not work so well!

    this is a great video. I am really surprised at how well those new baffles worked for you. I was thinking they would totally take away the beautiful sound that harley is known for, but it really didn't. It left your bike with a really nice low, throaty rumble. Very nice!

  • @williamharvey9164
    @williamharvey9164 11 лет назад

    Good idea. I could imagine compressing the glass does hamper the sound deadening qualities somewhat. Then again, I still thought the difference was quite noticeable and I am pretty pleased with the sound. Perhaps just wrapping the wire just tight enough to fit the glass in the pipes would do the trick as well.

  • @jclinton5
    @jclinton5 2 года назад

    so you should remove your baffles and remove the wire wrapping and rewrap them with thread. The thread will hold the insulation tight during the install and burn off after. you want the insulation to be as fluffy as possible inside the pipe because that's how insulation works. it creates air space within it self to let the sound drift around inside and dissipate. Tight insulation has no space to absorbe sound so it just keeps going.

    Great info - thanks for sharing this. I posted a video comparing the V&H Standard vs. Competition baffles on my Milwaukee 8 Stage III Softail. I've swapped back and forth but I'm currently running the competition baffles. Not much difference in sound, maybe just a little deeper and a little louder. I feel a bit more power with the competition baffles as well.

    When you compress the insulation the sound-dampening is much less since the insulation gets more hard.
    Fluffy insulation = more quiet and darker note.
