Is this still jl's top of the line sub? I'm about to pull the plug on a system. Had 2 w7 10's in a sealed box with a 500/1 to each sub about 8 years ago. Sold it off for dirt cheap now I'm ready for another system. I want it to knock but sound quality is my goal. I want the best sounding system possible. Money is not an issue. Can u give me some pointers? I was thinking about 2 w6v3 12's.
I think you will be very impressed with 2 12 w6v3s. W7 is still their top tier sub but is an excellent woofer, especially for SQ. Don't be afraid to go ported if space is not an issue.
First thing, NEVER go ported if you're looking for sound quality!! The W6 V3 is a great speaker! I had two of them running off of JL's best amp. Now I am running 2 W7 AE's off of that same amp. Which is a Slash V3 1200-1. I could use 150 more watts per speaker but it sounds great! I have contacted JL Audio in FL and talked to their Tech and he gave me some very good pointers and info about their product. JL Audio has a max rms rating on their speaker, but is not recommended to run it at that. They have an optimum rms rating. I have noticed if you do what JL Audio says and use their amps & subs it is a very nice product. If I was you, I would run two W7 AE's if you have the room, I would go with 2 13.5" W7 AE's. That is their top subwoofer !! Has a much larger piston than the W7 AE 12, and that means a lot! If you run the W7 13's I would run 2 Slash V3 1200-1, one to each subwoofer. If you prefer their 12" I would run 2 W7 AE's 12" with two HD 750-1. One to each subwoofer. Even though the W7 AE 12 is a 1000 watt subwoofer, JL Audio recommends running it on the JL Audio HD 750-1. Maybe that will help you a little. All my info is from experience with JL Audio products and my numbers come straight from their JL Audio manuals.
Ashley Holtz sealed is not always better for SQ. It's actually install dependent if you want to get technical. To get a flat response you would need to know the transfer function of your vehicle where you gain 12 DB per octave below that point. Then you can tune the box to compliment that and achieve a flat response. That, and according to JL tutorial a sealed enclosure with distort at lower volume than a vented. Get a video of the 2 w7s though! I'd love to see that :)
+Ashley Holtz "First thing, NEVER go ported if you're looking for sound quality!!" That is totally shit ! If you want a true subwoofer, go ported ! Sealed box have their limit for the lowest octave, less more sensitivity than a very low tuned bass reflex enclosure (20 Hz or less). The video showed it, the low notes between 20-30 Hz range are weak. I'm sorry, but the good subwoofer in the right box can have an amazing flat response and give the same pressure level @20 Hz than 50 Hz ! Sealed need much more power than ported for the true deep bass. Not need an expensive subwoofer to give you strong and low bass. For example, a RF P3-215 (600 Wrms) in large +12ft^3 @18Hz, have an f3 @16 Hz and can handle 800 Wrms from 18 Hz and more without any problem, It'll give little bit more spl @20Hz than 40 or 50 ! So, use the both side of your speaker correctly, it'll always be better than a sealed box... Sealed is for people that they wont use too much space. You want pressure level at the lowest note, PORTED ! and "quality" was never used in bass application, "linearity" is the right word.
Definitely. The frequency response of this sub is 18-200hz, and jl even recommends setting the center frequency if using a jl slash amp to 45hz. I have a 13w7 ported, and it hits clean throughout the range. I have the subsonic filter defeating anything below 25hz.
@@AhFuhgettaboutit wow I'm gonna save up for this sub i want those low notes below 29 hz. My current set up is tuned at 32 hz and goes down to 29. I want lower :D
Any idea how I should tune my amp to I currently got a w7 10 sub ported box with a 500/1d jx amp and I can’t seem to get it to sound clean any ideas ??
The bass would sound the same lol, a ported box will just change tuning to whatever you tune it to. Ported enclosures are to gain the pressure of the back of the woofer (depending where you tune it, it will play louder, or lower) as you lose that with a sealed box, but some people prefer the accuracy of a sealed subwoofer. Seems alot of people do ported, but have nasty fart boxes. (tuning of 40hz or only play loud at one small area)
Elijah Mayhan The only 4th order I've heard was pretty bad, but that was only one, I'd have to build my own to really get a feel for them. However most of my experience is in home, so quite a bit harder to get smooth response than a vehicle with bass. As long as you have a decent subwoofer, in a decent enclosure, it'll sound good in the car probably.
Elijah Mayhan Yeah, both seem like they pretty specific, if you don't do it right, it'll sound bad. Definitely need to know what you're doing to tune then correctly. I'll just stick to my sealed sub, and eventually port it in the future for a bit more 20hz bass. I don't think I need more bass than my 10", it already gets louder than I need it at 30 and up.
Find 1ohm stable amp with 1200w to 1500w. it will give u roughly 1000w at 1.5 ohms. But make sure some amp provide same wattage regardless of resistance load
I have my box built to jl specs for this sub ..but I still feel like my box should be bigger my rockford T1 was in 3.4 Cubic foot of air space and I feel hit harder than my w7 that being said the w7 is the cleanest bass I've ever heard point blank any ideas peeps should I swap boxes
What amp are you running to your sub? I ran the JL Audio Slash V3 1200 -1 It took me weeks to dial the sub in. I'm no audio expert, but there are many adjustments you can make on your amp that makes a world of difference to the sound and air volume of your sub. I adjusted my amp to get the best lows I could, but still get a great punch. That is why I love the Slash series so much, and again I spent many hours in parking lots listening to many types of music dialing the amp in. And yes, my system hit very VERY hard and impressed many people. It makes your clothing and hair flutter. Your system may be louder (for all I know) but the first thing I chased, was sound quality. If you are looking for nothing but DB and pounding hard, I would go with DC audio or DD audio. They have a very good sound quality, too. I have not dabled in them, but from what I see, they put out a ton of base. If that is what you are looking for.
@ashleyholtz8020 and yeah I'm kinda old school when it comes to bass don't get me wrong sound quality is up on the list for sure but I think back to when I ran two kicker L7 15" and man oh man I miss that bang

What is that next to the amp?? Excuse my ignorance…not to savvy with car audio.
Those are outdated now, people usually don't use them nowadays. But it's a Capacitor.
Box dimensions?
Ported /sealed ?
Bandpass?
did u actually ask "bandpass"??.. wow.. u really need 2 look up some shit on youtube so u don't look like a completely ignorant nube
You Dig ok may be noob to say bandpass 😃 but other points are still valid.
Just needed more info on that setup.
@@junaidgt90 just get some digital designs . Worth it
tony 1661 thanks tony
Hey by the way what's the song to this beat
Called The Feeling of Bass
The speaker is getting a butt massage!! 😂😂😂
Is that in a sealed enclosure?
Any idea how I should tune my amp to I currently got a w7 10 sub ported box with a 500/1d jx amp and I can’t seem to get it to sound clean any ideas ??
What's the name of the song?
That sub is SLAPPIN!!!
The 12W7 is 1200 watts correct ?
john smith
No it's 1000. The 13.5 is 1200
The 13.5 is 1500 rms
NICE BOX BTW LOOKS WELL BUILT&INSTALLED
Is that sealed or ported? I want to switch mine from a sealed to a ported box for the summer.
This is sealed
Whats the song called
Any suggestions for a good sub that can get loud and clean?
What is the name of the track and album
Did you need a second battery to run it?
Had a 13.5 W7 and it picked up the low hz bass other subs couldn't touch.
Would it sound different in a bigger ported box????
The bass would sound the same lol, a ported box will just change tuning to whatever you tune it to.
Ported enclosures are to gain the pressure of the back of the woofer (depending where you tune it, it will play louder, or lower) as you lose that with a sealed box, but some people prefer the accuracy of a sealed subwoofer.
Seems alot of people do ported, but have nasty fart boxes. (tuning of 40hz or only play loud at one small area)
@@JoshM7 thats why you build a 4th or better yet a 6th order then you get the nice tight response and a very musical sub
@@JoshM7 yea if done right a 4th can sound good a 6th order will sound much better then a 4th but is also much more intricate
Is there a way to wire it down to 1.5 OHM ? I know the 12 inch has a single voice coil..Or how do I send 1000 watts rms to it ??
Find 1ohm stable amp with 1200w to 1500w. it will give u roughly 1000w at 1.5 ohms. But make sure some amp provide same wattage regardless of resistance load
I have my box built to jl specs for this sub ..but I still feel like my box should be bigger my rockford T1 was in 3.4 Cubic foot of air space and I feel hit harder than my w7 that being said the w7 is the cleanest bass I've ever heard point blank any ideas peeps should I swap boxes
What amp are you running to your sub?
I ran the JL Audio Slash V3 1200 -1
It took me weeks to dial the sub in.
@@ashleyholtz8020 I'm running an aunex 1200
@ashleyholtz8020 I'm running an aunex 1200 mono block
@ashleyholtz8020 and yeah I'm kinda old school when it comes to bass don't get me wrong sound quality is up on the list for sure but I think back to when I ran two kicker L7 15" and man oh man I miss that bang
But like a pride 15 or even a 12 is like 3k same with DC and dd
The feeling of an empty wallet.
Lol
Lolol
yea JL is so rich company
THE BEST BASS....I bought my JL's years ago and would have already trashed any other speaker by now hands down. So my investment has been a decent one for my pleasure.
That box is blowing your prefab away. However, your $1800 dslr has features. who knows
I love your subs
After watching this I know what sub I want
Too
@@djsley3502 me three
Man, W7s are real, but I'm telling you man, I had 2x 12" W6 v2s and they were incredible. Can only imagine 2x of these 13.5" AEs.
Overpriced..can get way better for cheaper
trunkbangking What do you suggest? Point me in the right direction
What song is that?
My sony xplod would rock these
Look at the rubber on that sub and its a 12 at that, how much can I get one for?
Roel144 pena they are 999 but I believe you can get one preowned for 4 to 500
@@MoistMork is it worth the money, I have a 15 skar evl rn. How much of a difference between a w7 and your sundown or skar competition sub?
Roel144 pena Not much difference in spl, probably slightly louder than a evl but it an sq sub so you arent going to blow your windshield out with it
Tengo par de w7 12 ae pero no suena como ese mi cajon es porteado creen que suene mas con cajon sellado?
Cuantos watts estas dandoles, porteado suena mas profundo el bajo y sellado te da los bajos mas precisos
What is difference between expensive subwoofers jl vs same power same size other subwoofer in material becoz sound is very smooth in this but not in others
JL Audio w7 is a SQL subwoofer . Sound quality and loud 💯
I think I just blew out my phone speaker😜
