Hey everyone, thanks for tuning in! Be sure to check out the factory tour video as well from when I went and visited JL Audio's Miramar Florida location! ruclips.net/video/f2-AkPt6Q-E/видео.html It was amazing to see their US based manufacturing operation and all these subwoofers and other products being built in person. Thanks to JL Audio for being a sponsor of the channel!

Now, here I come checking your videos out to see you have over 700K subscribers!! Holy how congrats man, you and your attention to detail and meticulousness deserve it.
I have 2 of those, and holy crap they bump and I can still fit stuff in my rig. Got them used and I don’t regret it in the slightest. Paid $1k for both of them and a sick amp
I have had my w3 for 15 years, still hitting hard. I mean talk about qaulity. I paid 550 with a custom box back then from my local jl audio dealer best investment I ever made. Every other cheaper brands have all blown out. Thank you for this video I wanted to put two of these shallow subs in m6 suv. You convinced me.
I have 3 JL Audio WO 8's from 1998. They still play like new and were the least expensive subwoofer from JL Audio at the time and probably ever. Their quality is unmatched!!!
Rockford fosgate was beating records back then that are difficult to beat nowadays. For example in the early 2000s they had a db record of 164.7 db I believe, with two subs in a car. even nowadays it's difficult to reach that loud without blowing out the speaker
@@15trucklt83 yeah those speakers are crazy good, I had one of their classic series at home, I forgot the name but I believe it had like a letter and a number, and they don't make them anymore but the power was no joke 🤣

I ran various JL subs back in the day and one thing that always impressed me was the sound quality and ability to handle more than rated power. I started with 2 12W0 subs on a 600watt Crossfire amp in 1999. They were only rated at 125wrms each, but they took everything that amp could feed them without issue. I then moved to an 18W3 on the same amp in 2004, but had it in a Focus ZX3 hatchback, and that would tickle my butthole in that tiny car. No sloppiness at all from that big sub. Then I had two WX10's on a JX250. They sounded amazing for such a low powered setup. If I wanted to get another sub today, I probably wouldn't get anything more than a 12W3. But from what I understand, their TW subs are nothing short of amazing.
I still have my 12w3-d2's from 99. Had to put new surrounds on them butt still slam in my home theater. Now have a single 12TW3 in my truck... All I can saw is QUALLITY! great products.
I have had 2 tw13’s in my f150 crew cabs an ‘05 and ‘11. First setup was a 500/1 on each and the ‘11 has a single Kicker 1200w. Dang sure a quality sub! Also had 4-w6 12’s and a 13w6 in a ported box. All were good to me.
I have one of these sitting boxed up in my basement. Crazy that I paid $450-$550 for it and it's now $900! A lot of people don't realize that with JL Audio speaker- once they perfect the sound from a speaker, they generally leave it alone. They don't redesign them to make them cheaper, like how some of the other companies do. I had an Alpine PDX fail and throw constant DC output, and caused this sub to burn...JL did an outstanding job reconing it to make it brand new again..once I found a nearby dealer to send it out for me.
@mattb9664 I paid $500 for my 12w6v3-d4 and it's now $900 from crutchfield. The box is tuned to 31hz and paired it with a precision power p1000.1 1k watt amp. It's a pretty solid combo and most people don't belive me that I only have a single sub in my Ranger, lol.

@@chatobalencian1504…Dude, how old are you, like 16?? Save your money and get a single, well made 10”- 12” subwoofer (like JL) and some really good 5 1/4”-6 1/2” component speakers (separates) for the front doors (like JL) and amplify with a JL 250/1 amp (perfect🤘😁👍 , even a little much if you have a small space) or 500/1 amp (overkill, unless you are already deaf or need a daily body massage😂) for the sub and a JL 300/4 amp for the tweeters and midranges… that is what you NEED versus what you WANT. What you need is an EXCELLENT sounding stereo system, but what you WANT is a “Hey, everybody, LOOK AT ME!!” system. I own (2) 250/1 and (1) 500/1 from the old school JL Slash series (with only .05% THD/total harmonic distortion) and when I bought my first (a JL 250/1) it was from a guy with an older Mitsubishi Eclipse (‘98-ish?) who had it pushing a factory JL Audio box (Wedge Box, iirc?) with (3) 10” JL subs in a “half-hexagon shaped” box with one 10” facing forward and the other two 10” facing forward still, but at a 45 or so degree angle. Now remember, only ONE 250/1 amp (that’s a whopping grand total of 250 watts!) was going to all (3) of the 10” subs and it was deafeningly loud!!!🫨 Honestly, way too loud for me, but I knew that if it could push THREE 10” subs like that, then one or two 10” or 12” subs would be no problem… even a 15” would thump with it! And those subs weren’t 10w6’s or 10w7’s either! They were like 10w0’s or probably 10w3’s, which are still great subs. For the mids and highs I used an old school Soundstream Reference 644s with 75x4 at 4 ohms, 100x4 at 2 ohms, or 320x2 at 2 or 1 ohm. I used this with (4) 10” Soundstream SPL10’s with the front two channels (75 watts x 2) on the front doors and the rear two channels bridged into 320 watts into a 2 ohm load. The (4) SPL10’s were dual 4 ohm voice coils, so I wired them ALL individually in series for 8 ohms apiece and then wired all of them in parallel for 2 ohms total. Now remember, this is only 80 watts PER speaker but it slammed like you would not believe! Clean, crisp, tight, deep bass… but honestly, it was way too much. Too much power, too many speakers, moving too much air, and damaging too much of my hearing… and that is with only 320 watts… good, clean watts… of bass. I hadn’t even used the JL 250/1 in that system, but I know it would have pounded just as hard with its 250 watts of juice. The point is, you don’t need a lot of power to get good, clean sound… however, you do need a ton of power to try to impress other people… 🤦🏻 So look, you sound like a good kid but you need to stop trying to impress other people with your stereo system (ie. hair-blowing/dancing tricks) that WILL, not can, severely damage your hearing (ask me how I know!🫤😔). Stop spending, no… wasting all of that time and money due to “your lack of self esteem” and just go with a great system like I outlined above and let others waste their money, time, and eardrums… those who need others to validate them. Man, there are MUCH better things to spend that money on, like a down payment on a piece of property or a house! Maybe upgrade your tv/entertainment system in your existing house (if you already own one?). Help your parents out with a little cash, especially if they raised you properly! Buy someone a nice gift out of the blue… adopt a dog/cat from a shelter (preferably a pit bull, because they kill them within a few days if they’re not adopted! …ANYTHING but waste it on trivial stuff just to TRY to get people to like you because your car stereo makes girls long hair “dance”!!?? Be more stoic… work on yourself… exercise… hit the gym everyday… do an activity that YOU like, fishing maybe?… and get good at it… who the heck cares about making girls hair “dance”… that sounds SOOOO childish to a grown man!! When you work on yourself, women will notice and flock to you on their own, but beware of the sneaky “gold diggers”!!😡🤬 Good luck with everything… sounds like you’re gonna need it. P.S. Save the 18” subs for your home theatre 🎭 … 😂👍
So along the same subject (sort of) would you use a smaller woofer in a ported box(8”) or a bigger woofer In a sealed box(10”) in a open air environment. Specifically a golf cart with no cabin gain????? Please help…..
QUESTION: I'm tired of subs sounding the same. At this point it's just noise and rattle. But then I've seen people playing guitar music and the base sounds like super precise controlled deep beauty and I'm like OMG. Should I be looking for my next sub to have a bigger frequency range? Would that fix the problem? I want to listen to more than just rap with a really good system. I want to feel my music but it needs to sound accurate. FYI I like JL speakers.
@@ChillFactor727 be careful on too large of a range or vocals will become wonky. Sealed boxes will give you a more precise sound, but really you need a good mid-sub to pair with a large sub to get a good sound for string instruments.
Look for a sub designed for SQ/sound quality and not a SPL, and pay close attention to your enclosure requirements. So for example Kickers come to mind if you want alot if bass but not necessarily great/accurate bass. JL audio, Infinitty Kappa, Alpine type X, these are designed to make whatever your play sound good. They may cost more, some may not "get as loud" but trust me....if you have the right enclosure, and amplification, you'll never go back. I have two Alpine type X's, ported enclosure built to specs, and I leave my EQ on flat, and rarely touch the amps "bass volume knob" nor the bass knob for Audio-control(brand) peripherals I have and EVERYTHING just sounds great.
Upgrade your amp and wiring as well, I was running this jl 13.5 in sub on my Skar rp 1500 amp with their wiring kit and was still not impressed. I swapped it for a jl amp and proper wiring and now it not only hits 10xharder but the bass is smooth as can be.
subjective and depends on many factors. Same size, same song, same power; it will be difficult to tell the difference. Try blind auditions with each sub and a few others and see if you can tell a difference....
W/ the right enclosure you won't be disappointed but I've had the 10s and 12s and the 12s are noticeably better imo. They handle the lower notes better and get a bit louder vs the 10s, but both are great.
I had the og version back in 09 in my 2008 f150 under the bigger rear folding seat. Designed a slealed box in google sketch up and had no idea what the internal air volume was but it slammed pretty damn good. Had it running on an alpine pdx 600.1
My question is how do I know if I should get 1 or 2 subs plan on running 2 way speakers in my front doors and lower rear cab corners with 3 way speakers in my rear doors and 2 tweeters somewhere in my truck as well
Hello, I often watch your videos from France and I learned a lot about integration thanks to you. So thank you. I wanted to know if you know the subwoofers at the driver's and passenger's feet on BMW and Mercedes. Can you do something similar for a car not equipped with this system?
Can You put together a car audio system for a 1963 beetle? 6x9 in the back of the car in a tray. Bass Box and Kick Panels powered with 2000 watts and a classic looking head unit made to ship and plug in once it arrives?
Did you make that W7 box at the beginning of the video? If not where did you buy it. It looks really nice. 👍 Should it be facing into open cabin or be best closest to a wall. Like the back wall of an extended cab truck ❓🤔
Question. I have a JL Stealth box with 2 TW3 12s. Can I replace with TW5 13s. box is for 17 F150 crew under rear seat. If so. Would there be a noticeable difference 🤔
@@Acoustic_Theory I have a alpine r12 shallow mount in a 1foot box with 1000w and it absolutely thumps.. I am super happy with how it sounds. So tight and punchy, which is exactly what I wanted!!
I had a Cerwin-Vega Shallow Mount sub, the damn thing kept bottoming out so much it snapped the thing holding the voice coil on to the speaker, off the speaker.
Read the comments, everyone that has actually bought them is happy and loves them. American made quality, original engineering design. Properly installed these subs last and sound amazing
Im questioning the reason for such a large surround with low xmax(for a modern sub)surely a smaller surround could still cater for 11mm xmax(whats the Xlim?)and yielded an even bigger Sd
Some of the lower end products are overseas but engineering and R&D is also here and super solid. There's a difference between a manupackager that has zero engineers on staff and a full fledged company that has a full engineering team. Design matters
@@CarAudioFabrication that makes sense they need to compete with other cheaper speakers. I just hope when buying u can easily see which are made in USA and which are not.

@@HELLtoPAY715 thank you brother I was just curious so would it be better for spl because I want to order some subwoofers 18s to be exact but I was thinking would a bigger Voce coil be better for my application I'm going for a more spl hair trick style system maybe 15s at the least I was curious about kickers new solo x but no 18s yet so I was trying to decide between DD 95 or 99 series, sundown audio,or blackbrick brickhouse subwoofers with 4" VC
The point is, you don’t need a lot of power to get good, clean sound… however, you do need a ton of power to try to impress other people… 🤦🏻
So look, you sound like a good kid but you need to stop trying to impress other people with your stereo system (ie. hair-blowing/dancing tricks) that WILL, not can, severely damage your hearing (ask me how I know!🫤😔).
When you work on yourself, women will notice and flock to you on their own, but beware of the sneaky “gold diggers”!!😡🤬
Good luck with everything… sounds like you’re gonna need it.
This is great! I'm EVENTUALLY going to put this in my turbo k swap c10! 😏
im running two tw3 12s and they sound great, very impressive compared to most thin line
Amen! 😅 I vowed to never get rid of my tw3 12's, I sold the 10's once I heard the 12's. Witchcraft lol
With JL AUDIO. You absolutely get what you pay for. Excellent quality engineered audio made in America 🇺🇸 nothing but JL AUDIO in all my vehicles 👍💯
Im a believer in the JL shallow subs. They slam and sound so accurate.
I got a fj cruiser im interested in the speaker , which speaker box do you recommend
Great engineering
I have two of these in the back of my corvette. It allows for my top to still stow away in the back.
How does JL AUDIO compare with ROCKFORD FOSGATE??
subjective and depends on many factors. Same size, same song, same power; it will be difficult to tell the difference. Try blind auditions with each sub and a few others and see if you can tell a difference....
Thanks for the review. I’m putting together my sound system & I just ordered a 10TW3-4
My question is how do I know if I should get 1 or 2 subs plan on running 2 way speakers in my front doors and lower rear cab corners with 3 way speakers in my rear doors and 2 tweeters somewhere in my truck as well
Love mine, sound is so clean and crisp.
Would this fit into a 2022-23 Chevy suburban at the back? Or a link to it
Have any recommendations for a free air 8" sub? Need to replace the factory 8" in my Ls400.
Hello, I often watch your videos from France and I learned a lot about integration thanks to you. So thank you.
I wanted to know if you know the subwoofers at the driver's and passenger's feet on BMW and Mercedes.
Can you do something similar for a car not equipped with this system?
Would I have enough space for 2 13tw5 in a toyota hilux behind the back seat?
Send us some dimensions via the site and we can discuss and help you choose an enclosure design - www.caraudiofabrication.com/
Are these good as parcel shelf subs in a sedan without a box?
I’m wanting to run 2 of these in my Jeep gladiator just need a good box design
Can You put together a car audio system for a 1963 beetle? 6x9 in the back of the car in a tray. Bass Box and Kick Panels powered with 2000 watts and a classic looking head unit made to ship and plug in once it arrives?
How does the JL compare to the JBL shollow mount?
How do these compare to w6?
Did you make that W7 box at the beginning of the video? If not where did you buy it. It looks really nice. 👍 Should it be facing into open cabin or be best closest to a wall. Like the back wall of an extended cab truck ❓🤔
I built it, full video is on the channel. Just search caraudiofabrication w7 box build.
Also we can assist with a design on our website to get you the best results for your application
@@CarAudioFabrication Wow thank you.
They made great stuff along with Rockford
13tw in the JL audio stealth box in m 2019 Raptor is just killer. JL RD900/5 for power
Solid match up for sure.
Just brought 2 hope they hit hard in a 4 door truck 😊
would this work in a 2020 Gladiator with the Alpine sub installed?
Do you know why so many shallow mount subs come with that warning about being not recommended to use ported enclosures?
Ok can't wait for the next vedio 11:22
Lovely subs - truly a sight to behold, and the real deal on power too!
- but that price though .... ouch!
Love the brand.
Nice video.
The voice coil and magnet looks like from peerless Stw 350 subwoofer btw this Stw is a monster if a sub
Bro I wanna mount speakers on a 2001 Toyota hiace, specially I wanna mount a 6x9 on both sliding doors. Could it be done?
Hi Mark, I got 2 jl 13tw5 2 would the audio control lc1.800 be enough or should have I gotten a bigger amp?
800 watts RMS falls within the power band nicely! Also consider an RD1000/1 or XDM1000/1
That’s a pretty sexy speaker.
AWESOME AS USUAL
Wonder if they have a smaller one that can replace the under seat subs in a BMW.
Question. I have a JL Stealth box with 2 TW3 12s. Can I replace with TW5 13s. box is for 17 F150 crew under rear seat. If so. Would there be a noticeable difference 🤔
@@jasonschaeffer72 If you want to downgrade. The 12TW3 outperforms the 13TW5 in all aspects except mounting depth
Nope. I'll keep what I got, lol. I checked the price of $899 each. I'm good 👍
Can this be used as a free floating sub
Hoping they sell an all in one unit; speaker, amplifier, and compact box that’s plug and play with a separate volume dial like Rockford Fosgate.
Preloaded powered enclosures? JL has many, I showed one recently on the channel.
Whoah whoah, ease up on the 60fps fly boy ;)
This is the woofer the Alpine R-series shallow models are obviously trying to compete with. None of them are cheap.
@@Acoustic_Theory I have a alpine r12 shallow mount in a 1foot box with 1000w and it absolutely thumps.. I am super happy with how it sounds. So tight and punchy, which is exactly what I wanted!!
I had two of these then had to replace one the one of 2 blew out and I just replaced it with 2 w7
I had a Cerwin-Vega Shallow Mount sub, the damn thing kept bottoming out so much it snapped the thing holding the voice coil on to the speaker, off the speaker.
I just looked up the price. $900!? Ouch...!
Read the comments, everyone that has actually bought them is happy and loves them. American made quality, original engineering design. Properly installed these subs last and sound amazing
Hell, I'm thinking that will fit underneath my couch for my surround sound system without taking up a bunch of space in my small house.
Im questioning the reason for such a large surround with low xmax(for a modern sub)surely a smaller surround could still cater for 11mm xmax(whats the Xlim?)and yielded an even bigger Sd
Are all jl audio speakers made in USA?
Some of the lower end products are overseas but engineering and R&D is also here and super solid. There's a difference between a manupackager that has zero engineers on staff and a full fledged company that has a full engineering team. Design matters
@@CarAudioFabrication that makes sense they need to compete with other cheaper speakers. I just hope when buying u can easily see which are made in USA and which are not.
w7 still hits
Love the W7! It's a beast AND sounds great!
