    Heya - so about the knots. I have waistlength hair and mine still knots I just cut them out. However, to make your hair knot less, I make sure that my hair is stretched and released only when dry. And then if I do a wash and go I use oil and gel but make sure to smooth out the ends. This prevents knots. (Although a few are to be expected because our curls like to hug each other sometimes 😉) I also use thick oil (castor oil) on my hair for the ends. That's the best to prevent knots because of how thick it is x loving your hair ❤️

    love how organized, quick, and to the point your video was. Congrats on being natural. I big chopped back in March on my birthday but haven't seen my natural hair ever since because its been in box braids since the day of my big chop. I was actually ashamed and my family wasnt showing any support. Seeing you with hair though has inspired me though. You look great and we have about the same hair type

      +laniah stephens Thanks so much Ianiah 😊 I'm so happy to hear that watching my video has inspired you to rock your natural hair. I'm sure your family will support you in time, but always remember that there's lots of support within the natural hair community ❤️

    Your hair looks AMAZING! Im soo happy that there's finally a youtuber that has my hair length, as i recently did the big chop myself, and hair type (coily 4C hair) that i can look to for inspiration and guidance! Please make videos more often through this journey, i would love to see how you get your coils to pop as i am struggling with that aspect.
    Congrats again and thank you soo much!!

    Scab hair is what made me go back to a relaxer last year and I regret it. People kept telling me that there was no such thing as scab hair and I believed them! I just thought that my ends would always be that way and there was nothing I could do about it. Now I'm transitioning again because I miss my natural hair. I'm 4c as well. Your hair is beautiful! Thanks for being an inspiration!

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад

      +Syleste Hoskins Awww...thank you and you're welcome! 😙 Yes, sometimes we're unaware of things and go by what others tell us, but you know now, so that's good! All the best with transitioning back again!

    • @SylesteHoskins
      @SylesteHoskins 7 лет назад

      Marianne Macharia It's the hair that grows right after your lasr relaxer. It has a rough and damaged feeling to it that is especially noticeable right after your big chop. Your ends feel rough and dry while the rest of your natural hair feels softer.

  • @HaileysWorldx

    I big chopped in December and my hair has been in braids ever since. We have very similar textures if not the same. I have the same problem with the knotty ends. It drives me INSANE. I always spend WAYYYY too long detangling my hair. I completely understand what you said about how it requires a lot of work. I've been relaxed ever since I was 13 and I'm 20 now. My hair length stretched is on my shoulder but it shrinks up to about the same length as yours in the video. I actually decided to relax my hair next weekend. I just can't deal with it and nothing I tried so far has kept my hair moisturized and I've spent so much money on products.

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад

      +HaileyW Yes, the detangling process can definitely be time consuming, so I'm determined to try and resolve the issue. But some of the ladies have provided a few suggestions which might help with the knotty ends, so maybe have a look to see if there's anything you can try.

  • @sterries
    @sterries 7 лет назад

    You look gorgeous with natural hair! Your beautiful bone structure is on full display and it is EVERYTHING! 😍
    I have type 4 hair as well, so to help with the tangles you are experiencing with your ends, I would like to suggest *argan oil*. Argan oil CHANGED MY LIFE. It is superior in getting rid of frizz.
    Just about every product I use for my hair has argan oil in it from my shampoo to the *ECO Styler Gel w/ Argan Oil*. And, of course, argan oil in it's purest form (meaning, just a bottle of 100% organic argan oil). You must try this!

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад

      +sterries Awww...you're so sweet, thank you 😘 Oh...ok, that's good to know, I will look into this. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • @londonnatural86

    Love your hairstyle really suits you! looking v.professional too :)
    Re the tangling I second what Loulou says below, probably just need more moisture.
    Im 19 months natural, transitioned for 9 months, did wash n go's for the first yr or so and washed my hair A LOT which helped keep knots at bay, or I would sleep with bag on my head which helped keep hair soft & defined. I used to use a thin plastic bag though because you don't want to wake up with wet hair. But since hair has grown I do more stretched styles like bantu knot outs, get less tangling that way too. Only thing with doing stretched styles on high porosity hair like mine is I have to re-moisturise and re-twist every night as hair gets dry. You will find you're way :)

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад

      +LondonNatural86 Thanks so much and also for the tips 😊 I actually did the baggying method last night (covered my hair in cling film) and it felt lovely and moist the next day. With regards to my ends, I haven't particularly notice them being any drier than normal, but I guess applying slightly more moisture (to see if it makes any difference) won't hurt. One thing I will try is what Loulou suggested with the wash n gos and adding oil before the gel and combing my hair out to see if that helps! But yes, I'll get there, thanks.

    Scab Hair Is Real! !!!!! It took me a year to come free from knotted ends. I've had lots of trips to the Barber Shop! My hair is much better now.....Just keep working with your hair, eventually you will figure out what to do about it. Thanks. BA.

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад

      +blueangel1985 Oh...wow! Yes, I've since been applying extra moisturise to the ends and adding oil as well and that's really helped.

      Yes Mam! I wasn't exactly sure what to do about my hair. So I just went the Barber Shop route. My hair was so knotted, tight and coarse around the perimeter of my head....Now it's pretty much all gone. My hair feels a lot softer. You will figure it out, just keep at it....Best of Luck!....Thanks. BA.

    What did your work colleagues think of your new look? I had a positive experience and this helped my confidence a lot. However one of my friends had a bad experience and some pretty mean comments. Just wondered how you found going back to work with natural hair?

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад

      +Sarah Edwards Well currently, I look after my daughter at home so I've not had to worry about that. But my family & friends have responded positively, which I expected anyway. But it's a shame your friend had a negative experience, as I'm sure it must have knocked her confidence.

    How are you coping with short hair because personally I'm a long hair girl and wont wear short hair ,out...and is your main goal to get back length or will you continue with short hair.

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад +2

      +optimisticrealism x It was weird at first putting my hands in my hair and not feeling much there 😳 but I'm slowing adjusting. As for my main goal, I'm planning to grow my hair back again, but I'm more focused on the health of my hair (rather than on length) but really trying to enjoy all stages of the journey.

    Definitely experiencing the tangles at the ends. I big chopped in February and have 3c hair (I think) Haven't mastered a high puff yet but it's next on my list. Not keen on the hard feel you get when using gel on your wash and go so looking for a softer gel to hold the curl but not leave my hair crunchy.

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад

      +Sarah Edwards Yes, I know what you mean about the gels. I get that mainly when using the Eco Style Coconut Oil, so avoid using it too much. I think I might have to apply oils before the gel, for a softer result.

    I found the same issue with mine so had to move my next chop earlier and I still find my ends tangle still 😭 I have been told that apple cider vinegar works, so I'm going to try that. Will let you know if it works 😊
    Definitely agree that you need to throw yourself in definitely has to do that in the last month and try new styles as my hair is shorter than I'm used to but I'm enjoying the journey. Look forward to your next videos 😊

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад

      +Timmie Renner It's interesting to see that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. But yes, let me know how you get on with the ACV, I know it has many benefits for hair. But good to hear you're enjoying the journey too 😊

  • @iLoveYou7491

    Would you advise to do the big chop yourself or to get it done by a professional?

    • @HealthyAfroHair
      @HealthyAfroHair  7 лет назад +1

      +iLoveYou7491 Personally, anything to do with trimming or cutting, I always prefer to do it myself. But it really depends on you and what you're most comfortable with. If you're not confident enough to do it yourself and you trust a professional to do it for you, then take that option. But if you can do it yourself, then go for it.
