  • 🔧In this RUclips video, we are tackling an MX-11 Injector Replacement in a DAF CF in Wrexham for my customer Lower Oak. Despite no active faults on the dip, we delve into diagnostics using JATEST from Eclipse!
    By exploring the faults in the PCI ECU we can check our faults and identify fault codes:P0304 misfire detected in cylinder 4
    but unable to induce it, I take to checking the mechanical integrity of the engine to rule out any issues and try to get the injector to fault. After exhausting JALTEST'S tests to strip the engine down and found wiring cut through in the rocker cover which I changed for a new modified harness but with the fault persisting I removed and replaced the fuel injector as well as coded it in with the help of jaltest!

      I find it's different working out the van as opposed to the workshop As I wouldn't give the customer the truck back till it was correct, especially with intermittent faults but here I am trusting evidence-based diagnostics over parts changing 😅😅😅🫣

    You know that your DAF has a problem when there are no faults on the DIP😅Big kudos for correctly following the procedure on injector replacement, it's so important, considering the tolerances, involved forces and required cleanliness. Is it understood why the injector fails, and does this happen more often? Surely not a cheap fix...

    • @TRUCKTECHUK
      @TRUCKTECHUK  9 месяцев назад +3

      If you don't have things going off on the DIP is it REALLY a DAF 😅👌
      Oh, I think for people looking online on how to fit an injector and it doesn't fall out, I think it will help.
      Injector failure for me is usually leak-off with a high correction value. This Injector I believe was a solenoid failure but I just couldn't get it to do it consistently 😕
      Injectors from DAF are £650 each exchange, I can get them done for £350 but they have to go away to be done 😪

    • @stevesauerland223
      @stevesauerland223 9 месяцев назад +1

      Same here, not usually a solenoid failure but excessive internal leakage from control valve. P0094 is common fault for this issue. Injector prices in states is over $1000 a piece and the rail to injectors pipes were $150, but they went on backorder for months and know are $45 a piece. The EPA 21 with the newer Delphi (Borg Warner) DF21 injector are having a lot of issues, very sensitive to internal deposits. Just released another cleaning and software update to help reduce issue. Nice to see working on MX-11, not very common in US. I have only worked on a few, never had opportunity to really check out the DOHC in person. Thanks for the videos Russ and Congrats on your success.

      @TRUCKTECHUK  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Steve thanks for the comment 👍👌😎.
      Yes P9004 and p228D are the usual fuel-related DTC'S for excessive correction value. I have got an MX-13 DAF XF here that's worked its way to me that looks like a camshaft lobe issue that has had ££££££ spent IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES 😳
      In regards to the new ph2 Delphi injector, I take it the re-design of the internals where the waxing/soft deposits collect and cause them to stick still hasn't been resolved on your end either 🫣.
      Customers who have spoken to me about it don't want to purchase any more next-generation DAF product till it's been resolved due to the workshop downtime incurred.

      @@TRUCKTECHUK Exhaust lobes/ cam follower pitting adhesion wear is getting more common here on the EPA17. Paccar did extend the warranty to 7year, 700,000 miles. Yet to have a failure at my fleet, but we use high quality 15W-40 oil with shorter drain intervals than recommended and run valve adjustments more frequently. Looked at one last week that other fleet thought they might have cam issue because of low oil pressure but found a wore out variable displacement oil pump. Always something. Cummins have just as many issues IMHO, I always preferred the Caterpillar engines!

    • @TRUCKTECHUK
      @TRUCKTECHUK  9 месяцев назад +1

      We had a guy on camshaft replacement 5 days a week when they first started going. I'm going to pull the sump off this and have a look 👀....might measure the lift on the high-pressure pump unit followers and also check when they are at TDC ect as I've had one fuel pumping unit camshaft lobe come loose and turn!
      I've changed a few oil pumps due to low pressure on the older engine, we will see how the new solenoid-operated pumps last 👍
      As for Cummins I'm just starting to use insite to play about with them 👀.
      We had CAT engines fitted to FODEN years ago.....C10 I think the engine was......I spent more time picking them up with a low-loader unfortunately but we put that down to a lack of maintenance where I worked I think

      Hey Michael 👋 thanks for the comment buddy. 👍 The best thing about truck acronyms is they are even manufacturer-specific for example, PCI on euro-6 stands for Paccar Common Rail Injection but on Euro-5 it was called DMCI which was DAF Multi Controlled Injection (both engine ecus) Which again is different to DAF LF which is ECS-DC6......I will include the explanation in the future buddy 😎
