- A trip over to a customer with BLACK SMOKE from a Daf and a failed diagnostic from the dealer means someone has to fix this daf cf!
with fault codes for egr and bpv calibration along with active engine protection. We can go through some methodical diagnostics with Jaltest diagnostics from Eclipse and get to the bottom of the issue.
Unfortunately what started as a cheap fix escalated into some serious money being spent

That software is so cool, you don’t have to throw a load of parts at problems
Hey thanks for the comments. It's good software. It certainly helps people who don't know which way to go with things 😎👍
You earned a sub. Being a car mechanic and not a truck mechanic watching these videos is refreshing, parts seem to be in so easy spots. I have only worked on some light duty trucks, I liked how simple they were..
Oh, thank you very much 😊 I'm glad you're enjoying the videos
I will happily turn my hand to anything, I'm at Fiat on Monday tomorrow to do a gearbox fault with jaltest.
We as an industry are having a massive issue with not being able to get technicians into the industry currently and if you do fancy turning your hand to trucks you will find an abundance of jobs going currently 😎
@@TRUCKTECHUK They will not take anybody hardly if you've not got any truck/plant/agricultural related qualifications
Hey Ash, I know Motus commercials offer this: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0KgajSgS3ySsphG7B6nGDdC9iAFGDAV7MpP3GFALo6DtMQiV7tZRqcD6c7dyG6jNSl&id=384205435387168&sfnsn=scwspmo
They will take anyone willing to tap wheel nuts and spin filters 👍
@@TRUCKTECHUK Hi man, a question. I live in Sweden, Ive worked as a car tech for 3 years, and 5 years as forklift/construction equipment tech. I went to automotive tech school before all this. Would I be considered as a candidate to hire in the UK?
Brilliant….back in th’olden days we used an old welding rod tacked inside an old tobacco tin to diagnose Everything!! Put your good ear inside the tin and have a listen!!
Hey Phil,
That's brilliant! These days to do audio spectrum analysis I'd go with an oscilloscope to graph harmonics. It's completely over the top but if you want to know how they have reinvented the wheel
ruclips.net/video/UxSRN7V0ctk/видео.htmlsi=7VPqHyPJTGMr_O_M
Seriously I think the tobacco tin might of been a better solution 😂😂😂
You gained a subscribe, your videos looks helpful, I got DAF and have engine warning lights on, spent a lot of money but still on it. Wish you based close to me.
Thanks for your informative video
Thanks for subscribing and for the comment. I've always tried to help people with the educational videos. You never know.....one day I might just fix the same issue you are having!
Thank you, wait more videos 😊
No problem buddy 👍
i am happy to see your video it was a big help like me thank you,
Glad to hear that. Thanks for the comment buddy 😎👍
just come across your channel great content much appreciated
Hey thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoy the content 😎👍
Love watching these videos..Im an Engine Builder in DAF in Eindhoven. I mostly build MX11 and MX13, all generations, but i plan on returning to Ireland to carry out an Apprenticeship. I wouldnt starting off and ground zero as i have a background in Car mechanics. I would love to see a toolbox tour of a experienced DAF technician.
Hey, it's so cool you build engines for Daf! Me and the Mrs are planning on a trip to the plant for a tour at some point 😎
Working on them isn't as repetitive as an assembly line thank god, You can't beat something different every day so definitely go do that!
As for a toolbox tour......I've my van build coming up 😎
Hi, i am also a mechanical engineer, but I will like to help me for learning more
Turbo plus the failed/breached DPF that should be replaced will get pricey. Failed DPF on 17 MX platform has become very common for me. Thanks for video and enjoyed your Podcast with Boys from Eclipse.
Sorry for the late reply Steve!
Thanks for the comment also buddy 👍 😀
Yes, I forgot to mention the DPF in the video! even though I told the customer SMOKE = PM SENSOR FAULT and if you can see black smoke the DPF is toast! It will require a DPF, the diffuser cleaning out and possibly a PM sensor depending on contamination. I don't even know if the truck has had a turbo yet so I will make a follow-up phone call I think 😎
useful video man thanks, greetings from Russia
Thanks for dropping by and watching the video buddy
A real pro. Thanks for sharing.
thanks for the comment and i hope it helps you in the future😎
Well done
Thanks for the comment mate 👍😎
Thank you.
Thanks for the comment as usual buddy 😎

No problem 👍 thanks for watching 😊
Good good 👍
Nice bro ..I love your job man ... great work. I learn a lot today .thanks bro ...
Hey, thanks for the comment and I'm glad the video was a help to you 😎
@@TRUCKTECHUK it is bro.. it is and always with your videos
Good diagnosis mate.. subscribed 👍🏼
Hey Brian 👋,
thanks for the comment and for subscribing 👍👌😎
Nice work!
Thanks !
Glad you liked it!
Swift diagnosis as usual, good job! Feel your pain for the spanner, just realised I'm a £60 led inspection light missing......1 of 3 trucks it could be stuck on 🤔....bugger.
Hey Darren thanks for the comment 👍😎
Oh it didn't help I was hitting it with a sledgehammer but I've never bent it sideways all these years till the other day!
My fault but the BLOODY things were so tight!
You can't be losing tools buddy 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈 I do it all the time in the van ha ha ha
Thank you!
No problem, thank you for watching 😊
nice job mate love it
thanks Mick, i know you might benifit from this one day😎
look forward to it mate to do what you can would be a gud place to be keep it up mate @@TRUCKTECHUK
21years 21spanner brilliant
ha ha ha i didn't notice that BRILLIANT
Nicely diagnosed, expensive bit of kit to have a spare vtg in the van saves your customers shed loads of chargable time.
Hey thanks for the comment 👌 😎.
It is! You can't beat having a component to substitute as it's not fun pulling the trigger on 2k's worth of actuator on an educated guess 🙈
great video mate i have fitted a few of those actuators my self in the past . those VTG turbos are a load of shite . i have a genuine daf nox sensor if you ever need one i think it is the one for the 45/55 as it looks you don't live too far from me .👍👍
Hey Steve, yes I have got a few here to say the least. The best thing is to repair them they just need a capacitor on the PCB usually 🤣
Oh I might take you up on the nox sensor....I'm back and two to Daf for genuine a lot....I should buy Cummins in the aftermarket really
@@TRUCKTECHUK just let me know mate and we can sort something out .
No problem buddy 👍
Good diagnosis, did you get away with just a regen with all that soot going in the dpf. Got an lf needing a forced regen once a day, have my suspicions that its doing exactly the same.
how about white smoke in the engine breather?
Very interesting... I always wanna know how it is inside 😊😊😊
Hey Teddy! 👋
I've a short video on how it works here for you if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/rdeJ37Rh93s/видео.html
@@TRUCKTECHUK just check it out.. I never thought it was working like that 😁😁😁😁
Very odd way it works compared to a car 🤔
That split / crack then on the turbo was making the fine teeth on that actuator slip, ? that the weird noise. . ?
Hey Andrew. From what I can tell with the signal dropping out and the position changing the fault was the actuator hence it stopped when I changed it BUT I don't know if the faulty actuator had caused the turbo arm to crack or move position.
The best thing is it had no VTG faults but all the symptoms of rapid soot loading. A test I could/ should have done was turbo actuator functionality which would have possibly sped up this diagnostic. I got it right and that's all that matters to the customer 👌
Thinking on I should of plugged the OLD actuator in with it removed and checked
Seems you can't always follow the fault check list .👍👍👍
That's nice 21 years and 21mm spanner 😂😂
Hey John thanks for the comment. I think you need to have a methodical diagnostic plan one way or another. It's great that the diagnostic tools can provide techs with a step-by-step now but I've not found one yet that says your turbo might be snapped 😳. If I hadn't persevered with this I don't think I'd of found it 🤔
Yep and I've not had to use that slogging spanner I bought to stop using my 21mm spanner since 😅😅😅
I 😭 when you shut your truck door on the DLC cable
Ha ha ha bloody drivers with so much junk in the cab I can't even fit the VCI in the footwell! I run a pass-through on that cable now to protect against bent pins and for connectivity identification 👍
👍👍👍 thanks
Super.
Jesus that is a costly Turbo !!
Hi thanks for the comment!
Tell me about it! I rang every company and dealer i could ....mainly agent only not available in the aftermarket 😱
@@TRUCKTECHUK Gosh ! :(
"DAF only I'm afraid" is something you hear a lot on this era of DAF. Dread to think what new ones are like 😂😂😂.
Молодец отлично ,👍👍👍
Looks like DAF engines are NOT what they used to be with the 1160 unit 2800 3300 3600 💪
👌👏
ha ha 21mm spanner caliper bolts .
Yes 😪 bloody 18t daf lf. I bought a socket to do the hub nut and that was 105mm 🫣 so now I have a hub nut socket I will never use lol
It will be ok in Africa
I'd of pulled the dpf and reprogrammed it if was heading that way lol
Your on top of your came
Thank you buddy. And. thanks for watching 👍😎
Its not worth much if it was going good
Ha ha ha yes their is that element to it 😄
